Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are Vogue's September cover stars! They had the glow of two people running on adrenaline and very little sleep when they joined The Run-Through for their first joint interview just ahead of The Shards premier day. The two stars of Ryan Murphy's new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's book were candid, funny, and clearly delighted to be doing press together for the first time. Asked for her elevator pitch, Gerber, a Ryan Murphy veteran who counts herself among Ellis's biggest fans, called the show a "seductive drama thriller" following privileged teenagers at an elite 1981 Los Angeles prep school as they collide with obsession, identity, and violence. Gere, for whom this was his first-ever podcast interview, offered a punchier synopsis: Euphoria, he said, "if it was in the '80s and was also a horror and was also Glee." Much of the conversation turned, fittingly, to what makes Ellis's work so unsettling in the first place. For Gerber, the answer lies not in the show's more graphic moments but in the eerie flatness with which her character and the rest of the cast greet even the most traumatic events. "A lot of the horror comes from the lack of reaction to the horror," she explained. Gere agreed, describing it as less shock than slow-building dread. The two also traced the emotional throughline back to their September cover shoot, photographed by Steven Meisel. It was another first for Gere, though Gerber has worked with the photographer since she was thirteen. Watching him find his footing on set, she said, felt like he'd "been doing this since you were 13." Gere and Gerber had the intimate, inside-joke energy of two people who've spent the better part of a year together on set. There was the cast's six-person group chat, unfortunately nicknamed "The Sharts"; Gere's failed attempt to sneak home a pair of the show's leather pants, which he wore, by his own count, for six months straight, and the very sweet wrap gift that Gere chose for Gerber. Don, Aaron and Jack unpack a big week in venture, AI and building companies. Venture Downunder with Innovation Bay: pirate parties, poker, the Kill All The Puppies triage session (bridge, dilute, sell or fold), and why founder pitches at events should be three minutes, not ten. Canva blames frontier AI costs for a rare revenue downgrade: growth guidance cut from 30% to 20%, Canva AI 2.0 halted, in-house models to replace OpenAI and Veo 3, and why Tribe cancelled its Canva seats for Claude Design. Sovereign AI: Prof Anton Van Den Hengel's case for Australian capability. The only capability that survives is research, your advantage is momentum not checkpoints, and Anthropic engineers reckon they have nine to twelve months of coding left. HotDoc founder Ben Hurst steps away after 14 years: the maturity to recognise when your company needs a CEO and not a founder, and why the two energies are different jobs. Incumbents milking it: Don's Ansarada rant (pricing that scales with your data room, a 2007 interface, switching costs locked in by your deal risk framework), and Airtable reportedly selling for about $1 billion, 88% below peak, with founders wiped out by the preference stack. How 26-year-old Grace Brown built Andromeda into a $100 million robotics company, and the story of Abby the robot getting a couple dancing to their wedding song again after 20 years. Anti-portfolio goals: Vu Tran on why making a top VC's anti-portfolio is a benchmark, not a rejection. Ken Griffin on Citadel buying Sowood's $30 billion portfolio overnight: things come to those who wait, but only what's left by those who hustle. Sharts: data centre investment overtaking hotels and retail, Peter V'landys and NRL scoring, Federal Circuit Court general protections claims up 100% in three years, and EVs plus hybrids about to cross petrol and diesel in Australian vehicle sales. hello@tribeglobal.vc

It’s been a turbulent week in the world politically and cryptoly as Trump intervenes in the Israel/Iran conflict. The markets responded with fear and then bounced back when it appeared that all would be okay. It’s turbulence that we are used to by now, but it doesn’t mean you don’t feel it when the shaking is going on. Offline, Travis and I have been discussing the Bristol scale and wondering if you can chart Bitcoin prices along with your sharts. This week on 2 Bears 1 Cave, Tom Segura is joined by the hilariously unfiltered Mark Normand! The episode kicks off with farts and sharts as Mark shares the horrifying tale of sharting on a date right after letting one rip at the top of the show. The Bears talk about parenthood, including Mark's brand-new baby, Tom's kids telling gay jokes, the absolute chaos of tiny humans mimicking adult behavior, and the innocence of youth. They next dive into Tom Cruise's intensity, his popcorn-eating habits, and whether the man who saved cinema is also just a little…off. Then they go deep on comedy life: struggling in New York, open mics, internet haters, and the brutal truth that even legends get roasted. Mark also shares more about life as a Brooklyn dad, falling asleep to podcasts, his time as a janitor, and a wild Copenhagen strip club story courtesy of Bert Kreischer. The conversation also hits on Tim Dillon's CNN moment, Sam Morril, Joe List, Vyvanse brain boosts, and weird dudes trying to get into business with Tom's old corn star neighbor.
