The Ride – premiering May 30 on Prime Video -- is a new docuseries surrounding the world of Professional Bull Riders (PBR). The Ride gives viewers a first-of-its-kind, behind-the-scenes look at one of the world's fastest-growing – and most dangerous – sports (bull-riding has an even higher risk of catastrophic injuries than the NFL), and follows the lives of its biggest stars, bringing fans closer to the action than ever before. The Ride follows an ensemble cast of bull-riders and coaches throughout the PBR Team Series as they navigate the league's inaugural 2022 season, budding rivalries, exhilarating highs, and challenging lows. Ezekiel (Zeke) Mitchell is one of the top-ranked bull-riders in the world. He's also captured nationwide media attention as one of the only Black bull-riders in the hunt for a title at the professional level of his sport. (There's been just one Black champion in the history of pro bull-riding, Charlie Sampson, crowned in 1982.). One of 11 siblings, Zeke, who spent his childhood near Houston, always considered himself a cowboy, and loved watching PBR on TV from an early age. When he was a teenager, his parents begrudgingly allowed him to compete in a steer-riding competition at his church and he was hooked. Today, Zeke is following his dream of becoming a bull-riding champion, avoiding the dangers of the sport (his close friend Mason Lowe died at a PBR event in 2019 after a bull stomped on him), and pursuing superstardom in a sport not known for its diversity.

This week's conversation is with Ty Murray, one of the most accomplished Roughstock athletes of all time. Having earned a record-setting seven All-Around World Championships, Ty has rightfully earned his nickname in the industry as “King of the Cowboys”.Throughout his illustrious career, Ty competed in three of the rodeo's most risky and dangerous events – bareback, saddle bronc, and bull riding – dominating all three “rough-stock” disciplines with the singular heart of a champion. At the age of 23, Ty became the youngest millionaire in rodeo history, and eight years later was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. Ty has also been a trailblazer for the sport behind the scenes – in 1992 he became a founding member of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR), which sought mainstream attention for “America's original extreme sport.” Ty is epic and so is this conversation – I can't wait for you to hear his story and learn from a human who has dedicated his life towards exploring the upper reaches of his potential. He has a very clear approach to success, a deep love for what he does and the people in his life, and a strong purpose. Ty Murray is the "King of the Cowboys", and one of the best to ever do it in the sport of rodeo. He stared down 1,500 pound bulls and made it look easy, when it was "scary and dangerous."How did he deal with being thrown into the fire? He dedicated himself to the basics and building the proper foundation first.Murray mastered the arts of bull riding, bareback riding and saddle bronc riding, earning 7 world all around titles plus multiple bull riding world titles in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) league.Moment of Excellence from Ty Murray:"What has to happen first is you have to have an understanding and develop an Excellence in the basics. I feel every endeavor in life has basics that you've got to be able to do. If you get thrown into the fire, you're not learning basics. You're just trying to stay alive. And if you can learn the basics really well first, and get where it's automatic and you don't think about it and your body just knows how to react in those ways, then when the fire does come, you're ready for it."This is a must listen episode for stories from on and off the dirt and how he also helped build the PBR into one of the world's largest sports leagues.
PBR has skyrocketed in popularity in the past 18 months, and much of it is because of the action taken by Kosha Irby and his team. They didn't wait for someone to tell them what to do when COVID-19 became a national crisis in March of 2020; they took extraordinary steps to do whatever it took to stop the spread AND get back to action as soon as possible. In this candid, positive interview, Kosha (pronounced ko-SHAY) reveals the specific steps they took to be the first sport to come back from lockdown, and how PBR has taken “The Cowboy Way” to new heights for their fans, their athletes, and all their other stakeholders. Jayzen is excited to welcome Kosha Irby to the show. Kosha has had an incredible career in sports marketing and the business of sports after starting as a student athlete. He is currently the CMO of Professional Bull Riders (PBR), and first to admit he’s not what people think of as a cowboy. He continues to be successful in leveraging his unique perspective to help expand the PBR brand. People who experience a Lead With Your Brand workshop or keynote often want to explore more on how to put the system into action to benefit their career. A key aspect of this is understanding what your personal brand filters are and how best to use them. How can you complete any project in your “signature” way so that your colleagues and boss see your thumbprints all over it and know the value that you bring. Kosha was hooked on the business of sports after a really unique entrepreneurial effort while a college athlete. His career stories are as insightful as they are entertaining, as he has worked around the world and brought his unique brand and perspective to every position he has had. Notably, he oversaw live event marketing and sales for WWE in several global markets.
