The concept of PROTECTING BLACK WOMEN is ideologically amazing but when we examine the true absence of the aforementioned action...many may argue that some of us don't need protecting! In this episode #lakishalataye and #tywatts discuss how Shanquella Robinson and Megan Pete (Meg the Stallion) were not protected...in our opinion. We also discuss what protection looks like from our perspective individually. This is our first episode as mother and daughter discussing an issue that way too often we see in the headlines and on social media. We grabbed the mic and decided to do this TOGETHER because we hope to encourage other mothers and daughters to do the same! So.....in my GLORILLA voice "Lets gooooooooooo" #lakishadavis TAKEAWAYS: - Trust your discernment - Recognize when relationships shift/people start to change - Everything isn't a "good look" in the long run POSTABLE: "I'm going to my room and you can't have my room #. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.”—Malcolm X In this episode, I was joined by Shay Williams,LMSW and Shonte from "Sippin with Shonte podcast" and we dived into the conversation of "Protecting Black Women." We spoke on our personal experiences of navigating life as black women while also speaking on high volume cases involving black women such as Brittany Griner and Meg thee Stallion. LIVE RECORDING at Culture Coffee Too!!! In this episode we tackle several topics the only way we know how... Raw and Real. We sit with Norman & April Brooks as well as Jerome & Marquita Joyner. What does it look like to protect black women. With the rise of Kevin Samuels have we forgotten what that looks like, or was his message misunderstood. Do we stand up for our mothers, daughters, sisters and wives. The undertone of a war between black men and women much stop. We are three totally different couples with three totally different backgrounds but the goal should be the same. We don't always have to agree but one thing is common is pushing the message that family is business and LOVE is LAW. Special Shout to the Divine Timing Band and the audience that participated. We'll see you at the next live recording, these are events you don't wanna miss. Leave a comment and share with friends and family. Coming off of Mother's Day Weekend, from Divine Purpose Podcast.... People will say anything, it's what we do that matters most if we are to be believed. As James Baldwin said, "I cannot believe what you say because I see what you do." And if the legislative and everyday record reflects what we care about--protecting Black women ain't it. We're legendary in denying the humanity of Black women in America. Let's smash the myth and finally put work to our words! Works cited: "Breonna Taylor killing: A timeline of the police raid and its aftermath." On this episode of The LoveChat Podcast, the ladies discuss, “The Slap Heard ‘Round the World,” and do a deep dive into Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. They juxtapose this incident, with a topic that is often in the ether of conversation…protecting Black women. There were a lot of thoughts and ideas exchanged during this conversation, but the one question that was left as food for thought is how do the ladies, as Black women, articulate what it looks and feels like to be protected? While they pondered that question, they also enjoyed the sweet red, Dolce Rosso wine from Chateau Elan. During the 2022 Oscars' ceremony, Will Smith shocked the world. Smith strode onstage and smacked Chris Rock, after the comedian made a joke about Smith's wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith went on to win the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams's father in King Richard, and later in the night he and Rock reportedly made amends. When Smith was announced as the winner of the Oscar for Best Actor the audience gave him a standing ovation as he approached the stage. The first thing that he said in his tearful five-minute acceptance speech was that “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family,” and he went on to talk about “protecting” the Black women who co-starred in King Richard with him. Since Sunday the internet has been abuzz with reaction. Commentators like Eric Deggans and Craig Melvin have condemned Smith's actions. But many saw an act of chivalry, with people like actress Tiffany Haddish and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley praising what they viewed as Smith's defense of his wife.So what does it actually mean to protect Black women? And is physical violence ever an acceptable response to verbal abuse? This week on Into America, activist Jamira Burley weighs in. For a transcript, please visit msnbc.com/intoamerica. At some point during girl talk, the conversation almost always comes around to relationship hardships. Singles lament the dating scene. Too many married women wonder why they ever got married. Poor communication, unresolved traumas, and misaligned couples are the usual culprits. And misunderstandings between the sexes don't help. Much of what women think they know about men comes from conversations with their friends. And the level of drama and confusion shows that many women are not getting the right insights. But today we'll get some answers. In this episode, we unpack embedded racism against black women amongst society. Malcolm X's famous quote about the lack of protection black women have from society is a direct response to the unfair treatment black and brown women have and continue to face. The question is why? Why are we being treated differently? Who is protecting us black women? The episode also discusses how we can combat hate through self love, and self care. We may not be treated equally, but we shall continue to break social barriers, and have these tough conversations to promote advocacy and awareness to stories like Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, and other black victims.
