This week I pay homage to one of my best mentors, role models, and friends: K. Ross Childs, who passed away a year ago at 84. Ross played goalie at the University of Michigan, almost won the award for lowest goals-against as a junior – then moved to forward as a senior because that's what the team needed. He became Grand Traverse County's administrator, and was awarded Michigan Civil Servant of the Year, with a rare ability to work with both sides of the aisle.Along the way, he ran the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association for more than a decade -- where he also served as my first coach, leaving a lasting impression. When he stepped down, he received three or four standing ovations. He then started the Traverse City high school hockey program. He and wife Helen also raised three children: Mary, born paraplegic; Susan, who was hit by a car as a toddler, and not expected to survive, but did and now has a teenager of her own; and Scott, my best friend, killed in a car accident at 15.As my old U-M professor Ralph Williams said: “Happiness is not a state into which one falls; it is a choice of the will, and always against odds.”Ross's greatest triumph, in my view, was the willpower to find happiness in life despite the incredible tragedies he had to endure. And I believe he knew he had to, if he was going to be of service to others. And you simply cannot find another man who served others so well. For info about the book or this podcast please visit our website:http://www.letthemleadbybacon.comhttp://www.johnubacon.comYou can connect with John via these platforms:https://www.facebook.com/johnubaconhttps://twitter.com/Johnubacon

‼ This episode was recorded on Friday, April 1st, 2022. Sup everyone!! Welcome to episode two of Season 8!! Yeah, about the title... (laughs). You're going to have to press play (smiles). But what I will give you right now is; I listened to what the news was about. If you tuned into the previous episode, I was stalling about the news. Yeah, so editing these clips; for sure, we have accomplished just that. In this episode, I was trying to get a rideshare and/or a delivery order making my way to the gym. I've done a few deliveries while discussing the news, changes and plans that I had coming up. And as I was editing this episode, I laughed because I was then, trying to attempt to make the perfect iced coffee at home. Now, I'm a pro at it so, we've for sure accomplished that. Plus, I gave a huge SHOUTOUT to Ralph Williams of The Ralph Williams Podcast because he IS the official know-it-all coffee guy. No one can override his deserved title (head nod). When I mentioned all the things that I was planning for the change of location, I'm quite pleased that I did accomplish it. But the only thing was, it didn't happen right then in the month of April 2022. And if you're wondering about the title... (dot dot dot). I did want to seeee!! Wouldn't you?! (laughs) I'm teasing. I luv u all, thank you so much for pressing play, and I will speak with you all in the next episode. In this episode, I'm chatting with National Sales Trainer, Keynote Speaker, and Author Mar'Sue Haffner about understanding personality types so you can communicate more effectively and increase your sales! We dig into the study of personality and discuss how it can affect every area of our lives including how it helps us to understand our spouse and kids, helps us at work with our co-workers, and most importantly with our customers. As we discuss in this episode, most of us don't realize it, but we usually sell people that are like us in personality traits. We like them, they like us, and connecting is easy. When we learn to sell those people that are not as much like us then we have an opportunity to sell to so many more people. So much of someone's personality traits can be seen in their dress, handshake, choice of words, and little nuances of their behavior that we're going to uncover in this episode!Mar'Sue Haffner is a captivating Keynote, a national Sales Trainer, an experienced speaker, and the author of “Rise, Shine&Sell”, A Blueprint to New home Sales Success.Mar'Sue also offers a unique global perspective gained from her travels around the world.Mar'Sue Haffner and her business partner, Ralph Williams, own Sales Solve Everything, a sales training company based out of Dallas, Texas. They teach over 25 different seminars, all individually customized for each client. Their Online Sales BitesTM were awarded “The Best Business Solution” for the new home sales industry this year. Her favorite seminars to present are those which have the greatest impact on sales results including: Stop Being Out Negotiated; Psychometric Selling; Sensitivity and the Multi-Cultural Buyer; The Power of Personality. If you are new to sales, a 20-year sales veteran experiencing burn out, a frustrated manager looking for a fresh perspective to jump-start an under-performing community, or an executive needing help building, and/or managing a sales team, Mar'Sue has the experience and skill to help on every level. When Frankie looked down at the dead clown in the coffin with its whitened features and lifeless eyes now closed with copper lids, he never thought that stealing money from the dead would have such serious consequences for years to come. There was something cold, something unsettling about the Happy Fair penny arcade, and now it was hers. Tamela could feel it, as though the place was alive, watching her and listening to her as she opened its doors for the first time in fifteen years. Pieces of the past had lingered, enclosed within like old crisp leaves from a forgotten summer. Perhaps it was the white mask of the original owner, Jolly Roger, an old-time circus clown whose likeness was still branded onto the very walls of the Happy Fair to remind those within who is the one and true owner.Soon whoever is foolish enough to pass through its doors begins to learn that lives can shatter just like old bones can crumble, and Tamela’s fear grows when she thinks that she may have lost the most important and most precious thing in her life.Dead Men's Eyes is the latest full length ghost story from David Ralph Williams, author of two previously well received and popular works, 'Olde Tudor' and 'By a Lantern's Light'.Described as an author who creates stories in the mold of Susan Hill and other writers of traditional and atmospheric ghost stories, the latest offering Dead Men's Eyes has been cleverly crafted to bring the reader the best kind of chills whilst providing a story with heart warming nostalgia.Author Page: https://www.amazon.com/David-Ralph-Williams/e/B01N7PDN7T

Shellac Stack No. 84 goes “Steppin' Around” with Jan Garber, Ben Pollack, Ralph Williams, Fred Waring, and a few other “hot” bandleaders of the 1920s. We also hear some mountaineer songs from Ernest Stoneman and Kelly Harrell, take a trip “south of the border,” and play a guessing game.
Stikki Tantafari Brian Williams was born March 4th 1980 in Spur Tree district in the Parish of Manchester. He is the 4th child for his parents Sesciel Hayden and Ralph Williams. He grew up with his brothers and sister and soon started to sing at church where his musical interest was inspired. After gaining his early childhood education at Fairfield All Age, he moved to Bellefield Comprehensive high School where he started to write songs. Very soon he was performing at his schools Bar-B-Q and at other events in his community using the stage name “Willy” a name taken from his last name Williams. After he left high school in 1997 he wrote more songs and was still performing. In early 2000 he did his first professional recording at Cell Block recording studio in Kingston. This was a dancehall song entitled “I can get her”. After changing to write conscious lyrics his stage name changed to “Stikki” a name given to him by his friends at Heart because of his stick body structure.
