Theoni Bell has been fascinated with Our Lady of Champion for a decade. Her historical fiction novel The Woman in the Trees: a novel about America's first approved Marian apparition was published in 2021 by TAN Books. In 2024, Theoni was added as a “witness” to the Libellus requesting permission from the Vatican to initiate the cause for the canonization of the seer Adele Brise. Theoni has spent years sifting through archival documents and corresponding with members of the shrine staff, historians in Belgium, and descendants of the community in which the apparition took place. She collects the stories of people who have experienced miracles — even minor ones — through Our Lady of Champion's intercession, in hopes that these will draw people to the shrine to encounter Our Lady there. This whole venture started in 2013 with two answered petitions after a visit to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion. Theoni also writes and speaks about baby loss. Her baby loss picture book Jellybean: a baby's journey to God came out April 2024 from Holy Heroes. She sells baby loss memorial prayer cards and prints on Etsy. Theoni has a master's in international journalism and studied religion and culture in 9 countries. She came to Catholicism in college. She writes from Houston where she lives with her husband and three children, never forgetting to ask aid from their four children in heaven. Links in Show: www.theonibell.com Jellybean: A Baby's Journey to God – Holy Heroes www.holyheroes.com/loss www.etsy.com/shop/visionsofthegoodhelp Additional Resources for Families: Miraculous - a boy catalogues the miracles in his community while dealing with the loss of a newborn sibling. A Whale of the Wild - a girl whale anticipates the birth of her sibling and it is stillborn. She flees with her baby sister to lay her to rest in the burial place of her ancestors. The Woman in the Trees - a Belgian girl loses her sister while immigrating to Wisconsin with her family and learns to lean on the faith against the harshness of pioneer life and the grief and bitterness of her mother. (Strange enough, I wrote this book before I lost Sloane, but the death of this sibling is the main struggle of my characters and they eventually integrate it into the faith with the help of the apparition seer. God definitely prepared me for this huge loss.) Sursum Corda - Eileen Tully Ministry for grieving mothers Red Bird Ministries - large national organization with retreats, conferences, online talks, support groups, and more. A Mother Made To Love UsToday we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Heather Lebano shares some of the beautiful theology behind this feast, as well as a personal experience in which she encountered Our Lady not as distant and aloof, but as a tenderly loving mother.Heather Lebano is a Catholic Convert who lives near the City of Brotherly Love with her husband, Jon, of 25 years, their four children, and two feisty dogs in their home rooted in faith and love. She spends her days running her home, supporting and caring for her husband while guiding her high school girls with their home education and searching for truth, beauty, and goodness. She enjoys writing, creating, and sharing about her deep faith, the gift of raising her family, the vocation of marriage, and where she sees God moving in her life while lingering over a fresh cup of coffee. Heather writes at HouseofLoveandLaughter.com and on Instagram @houseofloveandlaughterblog, where she weaves words, offers a soft place to land, reflects on finding hope and joy, loving others, laughing often, and seeing beauty while encouraging others to grow closer to God in this sometimes difficult journey called life.  More recently, she shares glimpses into finding joy and beauty in the surrender of embracing God's will as she cares for Jon, who is living with aggressive brain cancer and healing from a stroke. Heather also shares tender thoughts on grief, loss, and reconciliation and podcasts with her oldest daughter, Sophia, on the Hear and Now Podcast, where they have genuine conversations and share stories about where they and their guests hear God's voice in their lives.Read more about today's featured podcaster and saint here: https://www.littlewithgreatlove.com/immaculate-conception/Get your Advent + Christmas free downloads, new Saints for Slackers swag, and Christmas cards here: https://www.littlewithgreatlove.com/shop/This podcast is sponsored by Red Bird Ministries. As he grew in his faith he decided, after college, to join a religious lay movement to possibly become a priest. As he went to formation, he grew more in his faith than at any other time in his life. He was inspired by these men and women to be the best he can to help change the world for the better. After three years of many fruitful experiences, he decided to return home and follow God's new path preparing someday to get married. Inspired by the saints and their lives, he decided to start a business to help people become little saints which became the Saint of the Month subscription box. There is something so challenging and good in St. Paul's words to the Romans when he tells them (and us) to both rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn. Grieving is hard. And accompanying others who are grieving is hard and holy work. So how can we grieve as Catholic women, especially when grieving the loss of someone so dear and close to us, like our children? In this episode, I sit down with Kelly Breaux. She's the president of Red Bird Ministries, which is a pro-life organization to help ordinary families who are carrying the extraordinary cross of child loss. We're talking about Kelly's story of loss, what it looks like to heal from wounds and then minister from those same wounds, and how grief can actually be something that strengthens your relationship with your spouse instead of destroying it. I loved how Kelly weaves in Scripture to her witness and her wisdom, and I'm so honored to share her story with you today. If you're grieving the loss of a child, or if you're walking alongside someone who is wishing they were just holding their baby and you want to grow in your ability to love them and their family, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: Kelly's story of reversion to the Catholic Church The origin story of Red Bird Ministries, and how the Breaux family ministers to others from their wounds healed by Christ The pain of miscarriage and dismantling the lie that losing a child to miscarriage “doesn't count” as child loss The danger of using the words “I was only” when you are grieving" How The way that men and women grieve differently and how Christ can use grief, suffering, and vulnerability can build your marriage up How to accompany those you love well and continue to show up for them long after the day of loss How Kelly lives out the feminine genius and how the Visitation inspires her to love others well Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Connect with Red Bird Ministries online Download the new Red Bird Ministries app Listen to Red Bird Ministries' reflections for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day (October 15th) on the Hallow App Check out The Little Catholic Box and access the exclusive bonuses for LTW listeners Subscribe and Review Letters to Women in iTunes Are you subscribed to Letters to Women? This week's Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation is with Kelly Breaux of Red Bird Ministries. Kelly and her husband, Ryan, are the founders of Red Bird Ministries, a ministry designed to accompany people in the wake of the loss of a loved one. Our conversation revolved around their personal story which was key to the founding of Red Bird Ministries, as well as things that we can do to help accompany others struggling with loss. Red Bird Ministries systematically guides individuals and couples through the complexity and drama that happens with the loss of a loved one--be it a spouse, parent, or a child. While there are important differences and dynamics with losing a spouse, parent, or a child, the core methodology that Red Bird Ministry developed remains at the heart of their approach, specifically, a small group model along with the accompaniment of companion couples and advocates, all who can serve families on their journey to healing and restoration. In addition to the Breaux's personal story, we also spoke about the different options that Red Bird Ministries offers to assist people struggling with grief: a couples workshop; online support groups; and numerous downloadable resources and links, plus practical steps we can take to accompany others struggling with grief. This conversation with Kelly was deeply moving, and I pray you receive as much hope, inspiration and encouragement as I did from hearing how God works through even the most difficult things to bring about good in the world. May this conversation help you continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to become more like Christ so you are able to accompany His people, especially those suffering and in pain. This interview is so beautiful and Kelly shares her own story of loss and how it impacted the ministry she and her husband founded to help women and couples navigate loss with tangible resources. They really focus on integrative, whole person support, so that individuals don't feel isolated or alone in the journey of healing. Talon died after 15 days with Emma Grace joining her brother in Heaven three years later. Their lives were propelled onto a personal journey of both discovery and recovery after battling a decade of darkness in their marriage. By the grace of God, their marriage was saved. Through the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, the Breaux's found healing and restoration. Through personally experiencing the loss of a child and through their own suffering, the thirst of bringing those who suffer back to the light and to the Lord grew. Therefore, they looked to Mother Teresa (patroness of Red Bird Ministries) for passion and inspiration to serve those who are suffering, specifically through the loss of a child. In the gift of restoration, they felt called to help others navigate the pain and unexpected challenges that come from the loss of a child, and through their first divine vocation of parenthood, Red Bird Ministries was born. Red Bird Ministries was named by Altheia as the top 10 ministries to know in 2020!

St. Lawrence was infamous as a radical follower of Christ...to the point where he eagerly awaited his martyrdom of being cooked on a grill, which he was sentenced to by the Roman Emperor Valerian in 2nd century Rome. Lawrence is a saint who puts us all to the test with his ability to suffer radically for Jesus - to the point of a slow and tortuous death. He's been called the "Ragin' Cajun I.T Guru from down on the Bayou.” Ben Boudreaux has been married to his sweetheart Joy (who you heard talking about St. Veronica earlier) for almost 26 years. His varied 27-year career in computers has taken him from banks to business computer agencies to travel agencies, insurance companies, construction companies, and even a few Fortune 500 companies, but his primary and favorite vocation is that of husband and "daddy-man", as his kids call him. He enjoys video games, wood-burning crafts, and being outdoors working on small construction projects. He also gets a kick out of the shocked look on most people's faces when they learn that he and his wife are parents to fifteen kids! He's quick with a dad-joke and on most weekends, can be found working his magic on a bbq pit or on a giant pot of chicken and pork jambalaya. Without any more ado, here is Red Bird Ministries' very own... St. Veronica knelt down, wiped a suffering face with love and compassion, and became a saint! The example of St. Veronica teaches us that loving our neighbors well is a ticket to sainthood. When we can see the face of Jesus in those around us and love them, we are not far from the love St. Veronica showed Jesus in wiping His face. The love we put into small gestures and acts of service holds a power that can make us holy. Our podcast & reflection for today is by slacker Joy Boudreaux. Joy and her husband, Ben, were both born and raised in the small rural village of Parks, Louisiana. They both graduated from Breaux Bridge High School, where she helped him pass English IV and he helped her pass Advanced Math. It was a good match! Ben graduated from USL in May 1995 (no typo) and the high school sweethearts married just one week later. Joy continued on at USL as an English secondary education major, until early 1996 to when they learned their first child was on his way.  Ben and Joy continue to raise their family in Cecilia, Louisiana where they've lived since 2008. Ben has worked in the IT field for 25 years now. His IT work led him to Brown and Brown Insurance Agency over a decade ago where he continues to work as an Enterprise Engineer. Joy was able to put her educational experience to good use by homeschooling their kids for the past 13 years.  They now have 15 children: Anthony - 23; Thomas - 20; Samuel - 18; MaryJoe - 17 (lost to miscarriage in 2002); Grace - 16; Teresa - 14; Charlie - 13; Henry - 12 (lost to miscarriage in 2007); their ‘big twins,' Max & Simon - 11; their ‘little twins,' Eric & Adam - 10 (stillborn in 2009 at 34 weeks); Carolyn - 8; Lucy - 7; and little Ella - 4 (died in 2016).  They feel blessed to have been able to care for Ella themselves in their home with the help of hospice care for all 8 months and 6 days of her short life. After months of assorted health issues and complications, including morphine shots for pain management, Ella earned her crown on Valentine's Day of 2016. As Joy says, “Jesus and Mary themselves came to bring her back home.”The Boudreauxs are both blog contributors for Red Bird Ministries. Joy also has her own blog where she writes about large family life, homeschooling, being Catholic and living life while parenting kids both here on earth and in Heaven.Read more about today's featured podcaster and saint here: https://www.littlewithgreatlove.com/st-veronica/This podcast is sponsored by: Littlewithgreatlove.com + Redbird.love.Special thanks to slacker, Jeff Sanchez, for voiceover work; and musician Rev. She particularly inspires any woman who longs to follow Christ in all things. She practiced self-giving daily in her call to her family, her medical patients, and in the stillness of prayer with God.Our podcast & reflection for today is by slacker Kara Hebert. Kara Hebert is a native of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. A small-town community where family and faith run strong. She is married to Daniel, her one and only high school sweetheart. They welcomed their first daughter, Genevieve, in the winter of 2017. A few short years later, they prepared to welcome a new member to their family with their second daughter, Vivienne. Unfortunately, at her routine 16-week check-up, they learned Vivienne's little heart was no longer beating. With Daniel at her side, on August 20th of 2019, Kara gave birth to Vivienne Janeé Hebert. Her parents delivered her into the arms of Jesus. In the aftermath of burying their daughter, Kara struggled in her desolation as the world around her continued to move forward while she felt she had ceased living anymore. Through the support of other bereaved mothers and the grace of God dispensed within the sacraments, she began to see and feel His light. As her life-long grief journey was beginning, divine providence, and the communion of their children in heaven, seated her behind Kelly and Ryan Breaux, founders of Red Bird Ministries, at our home parish St. Bernard Church one Saturday afternoon. From that point forward, Kara's desire to know and love the Lord gained strength. Her attendance at the Restored grieving mother's retreat where Jesus' overwhelming presence moved her to begin using her voice, her words to glorify Him through her suffering. This special calling allows Kara to bring Jesus to others and create a legacy for Vivienne, both of which greatly delight her heart.Read more about today's featured podcaster and saint here: https://www.littlewithgreatlove.com/st-gianna-molla/This podcast is sponsored by: Littlewithgreatlove.com + Redbird.love.Special thanks to slacker, Jeff Sanchez, for voiceover work; and musician Rev.
