POPULARITY
The Overwatch League suffered another wave of layoffs this week and news broke that Activision-Blizzard will pay teams $6 million to abandon their franchise slots at the end of the current season. It appears that the era of the Overwatch League has ended, so Harsha Bandi, former professional coach for the San Francisco Shock, Vancouver Titans, and Houston Outlaws, joins the show to discuss the highs and lows of OWL over the years. The Horsemen cover the ambitious goals and lavish spending that defined the first two years of OWL, followed by the sudden arrival of the COVID pandemic, which arguably extended the lifespan of the league by several years. While Overwatch League undoubtedly failed to realize its potential, it changed the esports industry forever and could have had a brighter future had it taken a more moderate approach in the early days.

Plus, Overwatch champion Super of the San Francisco Shock makes a return appearance to the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and puts esports back in front of millions of people and fails to make Jimmy say Poggers. And, Apex Legends Season 7 is announced, and you can count on a new map plus that new character that’s been teased when it drops!

A wild weekend in the NFL full of upsets and injuries. North American teams are out of Worlds again, we need to fix this. I'm hoping for all the chaos in playoffs. San Francisco Shock are Champions again and are showing no signs of slowing down. MLB is letting fans back in for AL/NLCs and World Series and I LOVE it. 100 Thieves is leaving CS and I understand their reasoning but they have to know the rumors are about to swirl even more. Chinese esports organization Newbee has been accused of stealing over $100,000 of prize money from its Fortnite World Cup players, the San Francisco Shock sign the first Japanese player in the entire history of the Overwatch League, and the Nintendo Mini Direct earlier this week now sits at almost 70,000 dislikes because Nintendo fans just love disappointing themselves.
Herman Miller's new gaming chair costs a lotttt of money. $1495 to be exact. Predictably, gaming chair brands took the chance to tout their own products for a fraction of the cost. But even if out of the reach of the average gamer, esports organizations are hopping on the new chair in droves. In addition to previous partner Complexity, TSM and the San Francisco Shock both announced deals with Herman Miller today.
