Today I'm joined by Game Designer and SCG Tour commentator Patrick Sullivan to talk about the Tour, the differences between competitive and casual, and philosophies of game design.
Star City Games' Cedric Phillips and Patrick Sullivan are back for their deep dive on Magic's 40th expansion — Time Spiral! The duo share their thoughts on Suspend, Split Second, and Flash as mechanics, chronicle their experience at GP New Jersey 2006 in Tom's River, New Jersey, and argue about who really is the voice of the SCG Tour.

But Magic has some amazing merchandising opportunities out there as well. So with Black Friday a week or so away and the holiday season right on our doorstep, what’s your pitch for the must-have can’t-miss Magic: The Gathering holiday toy of the season?

Episode 39 of Let's Remember Some Cards! A Magic: The Gathering podcast about the cards, sets, and stories that make Magic the game we love. This week, we welcome back Magic player, writer, podcaster, coach, streamer, and SCG Tour commentator Emma Handy! We’ve been remembering cards from each Ravnica guild that appeared in the first two Ravnica blocks, and Emma was kind enough to come back (see LRSC 25 for Emma’s “Signature Spellbook) to talk blue/green hybrids with us. During his trip to SCG Richmond, Cedric Phillips sat down with Jim Davis to talk about his plans for the rest of 2019, why he played Gruul Aggro in Richmond, his thoughts on War of the Spark Standard thus far, adopting the London Mulligan rule on the SCG Tour, and what the return of the old PTQ system means for the upcoming run of MCQs.
During his trip to SCG Richmond, Cedric Phillips sat down with Matthew Dilks, Edgar Magalhaes, and Tariq Patel to talk about the race for the StarCityGames.com Players' Championship, their thoughts on War of the Spark Standard, their favorite cards from Magic's newest set, adopting the London Mulligan rule on the SCG Tour, and if Finale of Devastation will make its way into Amulet Titan.
Cedric Phillips is joined, once again, by Ryan Overturf to review their predictions for Mythic Championship London. What did they think about the performance of Izzet Phoenix? How about Thien Nguyen making the Top 8 with TitanShift? Does Humans take advantage of the London Mulligan and open decklists better than any other deck? And why was Mono-Green Tron, a very well known quantity coming into the weekend, the most played deck? All that and then the two SCG Tour commentators tackle the difficult conversation of Yuuya Watanabe's disqualification.
Cedric Phillips is joined by Ryan Overturf to make their predictions for Mythic Championship London. With the introduction of the London Mulligan rule, how much does that change deck selection for the players competing? Have decks like Tron and Dredge actually gotten better with the rule change? Is Izzet Phoenix still the deck to beat in Modern? And will the success of Amulet Titan on the SCG Tour translate to the grandest stage of them all? All that and Ryan even takes the time to explain why he wouldn't be caught dead playing Death and Taxes in Legacy but *would* play it in Modern!
KYT, Derek, Jonathan, and Elliot welcome SCG Tour leader Matt Dilks and Team Face to Face Games' Shaheen Soorani to discuss Amulet Titan, preparing for the Mythic Championship in London, and the next steps in professional Magic after the Mythic Invitational. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/firststrike/support

Cedric Phillips sits down with SCG Worcester champion Dom Harvey and SCG Worcester runner-up Tariq Patel to talk about their early season success on the SCG Tour in 2019. Among the topics discussed, the two sometimes Canada residents talked about their runner up finish as a team at SCG Columbus the week prior to SCG Worcester, why they chose to play Amulet Titan and Izzet Phoenix at SCG Worcester, and what their plans are for the rest of Season One of the 2019 SCG Tour. As you'll quickly learn, the fact that Dom and Tariq are in 1st and 2nd on the SCG Tour leaderboard at the moment is no accident.

Cedric Phillips is joined by Todd Anderson and Jim Davis to make their predictions for Pro Tour 25th Anniversary. With three formats to cover, the three SCG Tour personalities try to figure out the best way to approach the complexities of Legacy, argue about just how good Militia Bugler is in Modern Humans, and try to find common ground in a surprisingly robust Standard format. Are your predictions in line with a trio that has over 50 SCG Tour Top 8s between them? Listen and find out!
