Newt talks with Scott Rasmussen, President of RMG Research, about his new book, “Out of Touch: The Elite One Percent and the Battle for America’s Soul.” They discuss the “We the People” project that gathered 1.6 million words from over 2,000 voters across every congressional district to draft a modern Declaration of American Ideals. Rasmussen describes the country as a “10-10-80” nation: 10% on the left and 10% on the right locked in conflict, while 80% quietly embrace founding ideals and focus on everyday life. Rasmussen’s research on the “elite 1%” identifies a small, politically active group, disproportionately postgraduates, high-income earners, and dense-city residents, whose views diverge sharply from most voters, including strong trust in the federal government, support for sweeping climate policies, and belief that Americans have too much individual freedom. He contends this elite group rejects core ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance, with about half believing only college graduates should be allowed to vote and traces its intellectual lineage to Woodrow Wilson’s vision of “government by the unelected” and the administrative state.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Townhall Review | Conservative Commentary On Today's News

Townhall Review - November 7, 2024 This week, we're exploring a historic moment: Donald Trump's return to the White House. Hugh Hewitt turns to freshly re-elected Florida Congressman Mike Waltz for a look at what made a big difference in Trump's campaign.  Joe Piscopo invites Michael Goodwin of the New York Post, to talk about why this election was “one for the ages,” a pivotal moment in American politics. Charlie Kirk and his team at Turning Point USA highlight how voter outreach, registration drives, and early voting strategies played a critical role in mobilizing the conservative base, which they believe brought the Republican Party closer to the people it aims to serve. Dennis Prager reflects on how media bias and collusion have eroded public trust, particularly as they tried to undermine Trump's campaign. John Solomon and pollster Scott Rasmussen take us into the numbers behind the 2024 election results. Rasmussen analyzes voter trends, including a notable rise in Hispanic support for Republicans, and explains how the GOP's efforts to reach out to new voter groups in places like Pennsylvania proved to be crucial.  We close with Scott Jennings, Republican strategist and commentator at CNN, who underscores the missteps the Democrat party took this election cycle and how they massively misunderstood the electorate and what they truly care about.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Earlier this week, Trump pollster Scott Rasmussen said that former Democratic President Bill Clinton's border remarks were more centrist, which could cause problems for Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign. Bill Clinton referred to earlier this year when illegal alien from Venezuela was charged with the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. Clinton remarked, “They made an ad about a young woman who had been killed by an immigrant. Yeah, well, if they'd all been properly vetted that probably wouldn't have happened.” Rasmussen commented on the former President's comments, that “[Bill Clinton] always had a better sense of some of the more centrist issues," "He was much more centrist of a politician. Join Jim and Greg as they look at how the GOP's odds for a U.S. Senate majority seem to be improving, how Tim Walz was a massive failure on COVID deaths in nursing homes and much more, and how Chuck Schumer utterly failed to do his most important job - but will still emerge as a winner.First, they welcome a new Scott Rasmussen poll (different than Rasmussen Reports) that shows Montana Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy with a growing lead over incumbent Democrat Jon Tester. And several other races are inching further in the direction of Republicans. They also rail against the media for constantly labeling Democrats like Pennsylvania's Bob Casey and Virginia's Tim Kaine as "moderates" even though they vote along with the Biden administration's position almost all the time.Next, they discuss reporting that shows Minnesota's nursing home death rate from COVID was the worst in the nation under Tim Walz, due in large part to his demand that those facilities accept COVID patients after they left the hospital. Jim points out that mainstream media seem thoroughly uninterested in Walz's actual record as governor and are much more content to lazily play into the image of him as a regular guy. Finally, they groan as Congress appears on the verge of another continuing resolution to keep the government open. But they also highlight Speaker Mike Johnson's point that the House passed 12 separate appropriations bills in committee - also known as regular order - and the Senate ignored the House legislation and passed no spending bills on its own. So Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer didn't do anything to fulfill the most important function of the legislative branch.

Scott Rasmussen shares his insights on the latest polling data and discusses the political landscape as the presidential race enters the critical month of September.  With only small margins separating Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in swing states, the presidential race remains highly competitive with no clear leader emerging yet. Several of those swing states—Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Georgia—are up for grabs, while the prize of Pennsylvania appears likely to determine the outcome of the election.  Rasmussen also examines Harris' rise as the Democrat nominee after Joe Biden's withdrawal, analyzing her policy positions and the public's reaction to her candidacy. Harris' policy proposals, such as unrealized capital gains tax and price controls, are generally unpopular. Rasmussen notes that voters still have strong opinions about Trump, and despite his policy advantages, some remain hesitant to vote for him.  The conversation also touches on broader political themes, such as how voters perceive "progressive Democrats" vs. "MAGA Republicans." While neither term is particularly popular, progressive Democrats fare better unless specific issues like border security or parental involvement in education are emphasized.   Rasmussen emphasizes the importance of candidates focusing on issues rather than personalities, using Trump's 2016 campaign as an example where issue-based discourse proved effective.
