Welcome to Episode 140 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, ALL of the Geeks (Jeff, Jake, Mitch, Nate and Matt Orrin) are joined by Carlos Madrid and are back in the space formerly inhabited by Sexpot Comedy, right above Mutiny Information Cafe, for another packed episode of geeky goodness. We talked more Titans, because it SO GOOD!! Seriously, this show has been delivering each week and it's gonne suck when the season is done. Will Dick become Nightwing this season? Who is the big bad? Did Starfire just kill Raven? We assume the answer to that one is no, but the show made it seem like its a possibility. This last episode introduced Wonder Girl, Donna Troy, and mentioned both Wonder Woman and the Justice League. We're also excited for the upcoming CW crossover event, Elseworlds, which will introduce some new characters such as Batwoman and Lois Lane. We know a little about the crossover, and talk as in depth as possible. We also got news that they casted the role of Renee Montoya (aka the Question) in the new Birds of Prey movie filming next year. Hopefully, DC can start making movies as good as their TV. Marvel, on the other hand, has no problem with their movies. The new Captain Marvel trailer just dropped and we paused recording to watch it. We've all seen it multiple times since because it looks real good. We talk more about the character that Jude Law is playing, which is not the possibly hinted at Mar-vell. Unfortunately, they wont be including any of the Netflix characters especially since Daredevil was just cancelled. That leaves Punisher and Jessica Jones, both of which will probably be cancelled after their next seasons. If they ever did use those characters, would they recast them? We hope not with some, especially Punisher. It almost Christmas time, and Duck Tales (Woo Ooo) just had a great Christmas episode. Turns it that Scrooge doesn't hate Christmas, its just his only day off each year and he wants to unwind with his buds, which happen to be the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. This brought up everyones favorite version of the Christmas Carol. Some say Scrooged, others say the Mickey Mouse version. What is your definitive version? We ended with discussion on the Caped Crusader, and his fighting prowess. We wondered if Dick has ever fought Batman for any reason and, if so, could he beat Batman? Could Batman beat Daredevil, or even Iron Fist, in a fight? Listen and find out our thoughts! You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to broadcastgeeks@gmail.com. This week JD shoots the shit with guest Matt Orrin. Matt is the owner of El Charrito, the Five-Star Dive Bar and host of the Broadcast Geeks podcast. Topics discussed include, but are not limited to: El Charrito closing it’s doors, karaoke, being a venue that supports community and creativity, the future of Sexpot Comedy, tips on how to get a venue to do comedy, and Ducktales. This is what Matt looks like. Check out Matt’s podcast Broadcast Geeks!
Welcome to Episode 139 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, the trio of Geeks (Jeff, Jake and Matt Orrin) are joined by Carlos Madrid and are back in the space inhabited by Sexpot Comedy, right above Mutiny Information Cafe, for another packed episode of geeky goodness. It's all about Titans again this week as this show continues to rock! We're seeing a much darker Dick Grayson work his anger out, and get him closer to Nightwing. We don't know if he'll change during this season, but it is definitely going to happen at some point. The upcoming (current?) episode will introduce Donna Troy. We discuss her place in the world of DC, and how she compares to her more "adult" counterpart, Wonder Woman. We also talk about the upcoming Swamp Thing as this remains high on our interest list. We then talk about Venom and its worldwide financial success, especially for not being the next movie released in the last few years. It's getting close to hitting $1billion!! What does that mean for Spiderman going away from Sony and back to Marvel? Well, it doesn't look that good. If they can make a Spidey related movie, WITHOUT Spiderman, with this much success then who knows what they will continue to do. The new Spiderman game came up next and it is so much fun. Do you prefer to play games on Console or PC? This could be a hotbed topic for the Geeks! The CW-verse takes over the discussion next, and we talked about our favorite shows right now. Arrow seems to be atop the heap for another week. We're ALL anticipating the upcoming crossover event, Elseworlds, especially with the new trailer CW released. We cannot wait to see Batwoman make her appearance. Legends of Tomorrow, while not part of the crossover, is also worth the watch. They have been doing a lot of fun, magical, stuff. We finish up with Sylvester Stallone and the next Rocky based movie, Creed 2. This movie appears to be a double sequel, one to Rocky 4 and also to the first Creed movie. Regardless, we're pretty excited to see Dolph Lundgren once again on the screen, big or little. We started naming our favorite Sly films, as there are plenty of really good ones. Which is your favorite? You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to broadcastgeeks@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter @broadcastgeeks. Welcome to Episode 138 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, the a trio of Geeks (Jeff, Jake and Matt Orrin) are back in the space inhabited by Sexpot Comedy, right above Mutiny Information Cafe, for another packed episode of geeky goodness. Talk started with Titans, only available on the DC Universe streaming service. This show has been great and we talked a lot about it. The last episode featured Jason Todd, who appears to have some issues. Was he a rebound for Batman after Dick leaves him? We're looking forward to the Doom Patrol show, especially after their appearance on Titans. We're also looking forward to Swamp Thing, which could change EVERYTHING in the comic book world we all love. Will Constantine show up on the show? Will there be other magic users such as Zatanna? Guess we'll have to wait and find out. Talk of villians led us to the topic of modern day villians, such as Jeff Bezos. He appears to be our version of Lex Luthor, bald head and all! Hopefully, Elon Musk doesn't follow suit and continues to do the cool things he is doing. Someone will need the resources to take down Bezos, and Elon could be the one to do it. Speaking of villians, we switched over to the topic of Gifted and some of its high profile characters such as Lorna aka Polaris. As the daughter of Magneto, will she take on his mantle? Word is that she will put on the cool Magneto helmet. Also, can the Strucker dad burn himself with his lava hands? We talked about whether or not mutants can be effected by their own powers. What are your thoughts? Next up we talk about the CW shows, with Arrow still being on top. Though, how does "evil" Laurel know how to do her job of DA? She wasnt a lawyer, so is it something anyone can do? We also talked about Curtis, aka Mr. Terrific, and how terrific his balls are. His character is starting to get good again. The other shows have been pretty good, with Black Lightning really turning it up. Our featured actor this week was John Ritter, starting with his role in the original IT. He was a very underappreciated actor and had some really good roles. Then we were all over the board talking about Agents of Shield, Flash Gordon, and Harry Potter. Give it a listen and tell us what you think. Some episodes of Broadcast Geeks are recorded at the Comedy RoomRoom inside of El Charrito at 2104 Larimer Street in the heart of Denver's ballpark neighborhood. Welcome to Episode 137 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, the Geeks (Mitch, Jeff, Jake and Matt Orrin) are back in the space inhabited by Sexpot Comedy, right above Mutiny Information Cafe, for another packed episode of geeky goodness. The Man known for bringing us many of our favorite Marvel comic book characters, Stan Lee, has finally left this mortal coil. He passed away on the day we recorded this episode, and we gave him a rightful tribute. We talked about our favorite characters, his impact on the comic world, and which was his best Marvel movie cameo. Which is your favorite? We also talked about the haters out there, those that talk trash about him. We acknowledge that some people, such as Steve Ditko, might have gotten a raw deal. No one is perfect, especially Stan Lee, but his contributions cannot be ignored. Afterwards, we went to our usual discussions about what we are watching. Gifted has been pretty great lately, with a loss of a pretty cool character. The CW shows have been good also, though it is hard to imagine that Arrow is top of the heap again! Even though it isn't on CW, Sabrina is tied to the universe. They have been getting some heat lately as the Satanic Temple is suing them over use of a statue. Disney is still working on their streaming service, set to release next year. It sounds like their programming is gonna be pretty nuts! Star wars shows, Marvel shows featuring Loki and Scarlet Witch. Sounds like one more service we'll need to be subscribers of! In the meantime, Disney has new Duck Tales episodes available and they are HIGHLY recommended. That show is so good for all ages, and hopefully they'll put it on the streaming service. Speaking of streaming services, DC Universe has been killing it lately. The live action Titans show has been a lot of fun, and a little dark. This last episode introduces a NEW Robin, presumably Jason Todd. We cannot wait to see how the two Robins interact. Will Dick finally take on the mantle of Nightwing, or does he still need time? If you haven't watched the show yet, you really should. They also introduced the Doom Patrol, who are set to get their own show. We finish up with movie talk starting with Creed 2, the next movie in the Rocky universe. How many Rocky movies does that make it? We list them all, as well as our favorite parts and also our favorite of the movies. Do you prefer Rocky 3, with Clubber Lang, or Ivan Drago, in Rocky 4? We also talk about the next monster movie in the making, Godzilla vs King Kong. That should be very exciting! Some episodes of Broadcast Geeks are recorded at the Comedy RoomRoom inside of El Charrito at 2104 Larimer Street in the heart of Denver's ballpark neighborhood. He's a good boy and he loves his mom and his name's George Michael; he's a dog! Welcome to another episode of One on Lund with your host Nathan Lund. I sat down with the hilarious and multi-talented Janae Burris and, to be honest, this one got a little heavy at times. Instead of focusing on comedy or Denver, Janae and I shared our concerns for the earth's climate, racism, and the class war that might be right around the corner. Janae is one of my favorite people to hang out with, whether we are performing together or playing Settlers of Catan or poker. She is one of the leaders of Denver's comedy scene, and her group Pussy Bros (along with Christie Buchele and Rachel Weeks) have done so much to help young comedians, especially women, with stage time and support. Check out www.janaeburris.com and make sure to catch her comedy soon. She is so funny and wise, and I will be more than happy to fight alongside her in the potential class/race war brought about by climate change! Be sure to email me at OneonLund@gmail dot com with feedback, questions, etc and thanks for tuning in! One on Lund is a painfully personal podcast featuring Denver Comedy Champion Nathan Lund. Hello and welcome to another episode of the podcast sensation that's sweepin' the nation, One on Lund! I am host Nathan Lund, and this week it was my pleasure to sit down with the comic sensation that's sweepin' the nation, Troy Baxley! Troy is one of Denver's most well-known comics, spending nearly 30 years working clubs all over the country. He started the open mic at Lion's Lair where Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, Andrew Orvedahl, Ben Kronberg, Greg Baumhauer, and many more started their comedy journeys. Troy was something of a legend of the Denver scene when I moved here 10 years ago, and it has always been inspiring to watch him perform his craft. In this episode, Troy and I talk about Denver's many changes over the years as well as milkmen, pavers, and street sweepers. You know, real folks! Hello, listener/friend! Thanks for tuning in to another episode of One on Lund hosted by me, Nathan Lund. This latest installment features my good friend Kevin O'Brien! Ol' Kev was one of the first people I met after moving to Denver in 2008, and he remains one of my closest buds. Kevin hosted one of Denver's best comedy shows, Arguments & Grievances, and he co-hosted a fantastic podcast called "These Things Matter" with Taylor Gonda. Kevin and fellow comedian Mara Wiles moved to New York City in March of 2017 but they left a lasting impression in Denver's hearts. I hope you enjoy listening to me and Ol' Kev as we look back on our time together in the Mile High, living and loving and belting out pop-punk lyrics. Holy wowzers, it's a new episode of One on Lund! Thanks so much for listening, audiophiles of audio files! This week, host Nathan Lund is joined by the very funny Caleb Synan in an impromptu 2-part episode. Caleb and Nathan sat down together for almost an hour and then discovered that only the first 15 minutes had been recorded. So they had some lunch and returned to the Sexpot studio to talk some more, and luckily everything was successfully transcribed. Lucky you! Caleb is in town from Los Angeles, but he started his comedy career in the wonderful city of Atlanta. Denver and Atlanta have stellar reputations for their comedy scenes, along with other great cities like Chicago, Portland, Austin, New Orleans, and San Francisco. If you live in one of these places and haven't checked out local comedy, you're blowing it! If you're in Colorado, you can see Caleb perform at some of the best venues around! Jordan celebrated his birthday by buying some new pants and talking to Nathan about stand up, wizards, Los Angeles, and the unending saga that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hello and welcome to episode 13 of One on Lund! This week, host Nathan Lund is joined by his first guest, the hilarious Ben Kronberg! Ben was the first headliner of Nathan's weekly show Too Much Fun, and the two friends spend this episode talking about lost love, validation, knitting, and comedy crowd expectations. Ben was a part of the TV show Last Comic Standing a few years ago. His interaction with judge Roseanne went viral, so Ben talks more about that altercation in light of Roseanne's recent troubles. Due to an unknown recording issue, this episode ends rather abruptly but most of the conversation is available here and ready to be enjoyed! Be sure to catch Ben Kronberg's comedy when he comes to your city, and if you're in Denver you can see him tomorrow night, June 2nd, as part of Lucha Libre & Laughs' 5 year anniversary show Wrestle Party! Holy heaven, it's episode seven! Join host Nathan Lund as he recounts his recent audition for the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. Thanks to Wende Curtis, owner of the Comedy Works, a whole slew of funny Denver comedians were able to showcase their talents for JFL scouts. Best of luck to everyone involved! Several comics from Denver have made the trip to Montreal for Just For Laughs, including the members of the Grawlix (Andrew Orvedahl, Ben Roy, and Adam Cayton-Holland), Troy Walker, Chris Charpentier, and Jordan Doll. It is often a multi-year process to eventually be invited to JFL, and this is Nathan's first time auditioning. Fingers crossed this journey ends with him enjoying some authentic poutine in the Great White North! This episode features Nathan promoting several upcoming shows and talking about his new gig hosting a weekly pub quiz/trivia night at Black Shirt Brewing Co. Think & Drink Pub Quiz is every Tuesday night at 7pm and is a lot of fun! It is free to play, and prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. If you're in Denver, come play some time! Hey y'all, it's episode 6 of One on Lund! Host Nathan Lund is back from the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival, and boy was it a fun time. Big big thanks to Dave Plotkin, Heather Shaw, Doug McPherson, Tim Murphy, and everyone else involved with making the festival such a great experience. Nathan talks about a dude at the Travelodge pool who had an unfortunate run-in with fire ants, and another dude on his flight home who wasn't too happy to see Nathan as his seat neighbor. He also saw a raccoon! Nathan also talks about the successful maiden voyage of the new comedy debate show at Oskar Blues Black Buzzard called Sticks and Stones! Hosted by Christie Buchele, the show pits comedians against one another as they debate topics like Manic vs Depressed and Boyz II Men vs Spice Girls. For the first show, Nathan argued on the side of Bad News against Aaron Urist and Fake News. After sharing several examples of increasingly bad news, Nathan ended the night with some great news: he won the debate! Sticks and Stones continues the tradition of a long-running Denver institution: Arguments & Grievances. Hosted by Kevin O'Brien at the Vine St. Pub for six years, A&G was one of the best and most funnest shows in town. It will make its return to the Mile High City on April 13th at the Oriental Theater and will feature many of the talented comics responsible for its success, including Chris Charpentier, Mara Wiles, Jordan Doll, and Sam Tallent. Welcome to episode 5 of One on Lund! This is the first episode that Nathan recorded without broadcasting via Facebook Live. While it seemed like a fun idea to be able to interact with listeners in real time, the live broadcast came with some audio issues and video freezes, and so Nathan will focus on the classic audio-only podcast format going forward. Perhaps future episodes with guests will be available on Facebook Live, but isn't it a good thing for all of us to spend less time on Facebook? Also in this episode, Nathan plugs the new podcast Shinin' by friends and fellow comics Sam Tallent and Dave Gborie. If you're looking for a fun and entertaining listen, check out Shinin' via Stitcher, iTunes, or the Sexpot Comedy website. Nathan talks about his love of professional wrestling and describes how he came to be one of the commentators for the popular show Lucha Libre & Laughs. Combining wrestling action and stand up comedy, LLL has been a Denver favorite for years. Nathan is eternally grateful to creator Nick Gossert for the opportunity to call live wrestling alongside Sam Tallent, with occasional support from Mitch Jones, Aaron Urist, and Ian Douglas Terry. Be sure to catch Lucha Libre & Laughs March 2nd, April 27th, and a huge 2 day event June 1st and 2nd! One on Lund is a painfully personal podcast featuring Denver Comedy Champion Nathan Lund. Hello there stranger! Thanks for listening to episode 4 of One on Lund. In this week's installment, Nathan "One on Lund" Lund talks about some of his favorite shows to do in and around Denver, including a very unique gig at the Park Hill Library and the super fun Mile High Movie Roast! Originally known as Mile High Sci Fi, hosts Harrison Rains and Matt Vogl made fun of bad science fiction flops for years at several movie theaters around Denver. One of Nathan's first goals after moving to Colorado was to be a part of it, and it continues to be one of the best shows in town now that Harrison works with a rotating cast of Denver's best movie roasters. Harrison and Nathan most recently blasted Billy Zane in "The Phantom" at both Alamo Drafthouse locations (Sloan's Lake and Littleton). Next month catch Christie Buchele and Zach Reinert when they roast "Indecent Proposal" March 9th and 16th! Nathan is real excited to be a part of the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival March 1-4th! It is a very popular fest and will feature headliners Rhea Butcher, Janelle James, and the one and only Sam Tallent! More info at www.orlandoindiecomedy.com In a possibly weird and unexpected change of pace, Nathan attempts to get serious and share some of his feelings in the wake of the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
