As a college student at Vassar, Rick Shenkman was a fervent supporter of Richard Nixon. As the Watergate scandal unfolded,  Shenkman was unwavering in his defense of Nixon. He was a poster boy for cognitive dissonance, unwilling to admit he was wrong about Nixon.  But the firing of Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox in the infamous Saturday Night Massacre was a turning point for the then young conservative. Shenkman is a former journalist, turned historian and the author of seven books on politics.  He talks about his days as a Nixon supporter, his cognitive dissonance and how this behavior is playing a role in today's unfaltering support of Donald Trump. Hear Rick Shenkman on the BBC Radio Program Sideways:https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001xdg0Read: https://www.thedailybeast.com/i-stuck-with-nixon-heres-why-science-said-i-did-itRead: https://www.washcog.org/in-the-news/your-right-to-knowRead: https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/the-legislatures-sunshine-committee-has-fallen-into-darkness/Read: https://www.cascadiadaily.com/2024/feb/29/weakening-of-state-public-records-act-affects-your-right-to-know-every-day/Read: https://www.futuromediagroup.org/suave-pulitzer-prize/Read: https://pulitzercenter.org/people/maria-hinojosaRead: https://murrow.wsu.edu/symposium/the-edward-r-murrow-achievement-award/Read: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/sinclair-nixes-univision-affiliation-ending-local-spanish-broadcasts/Read: https://www.chronline.com/stories/group-of-washington-state-faith-and-community-leaders-call-for-cease-fire-in-israel-hamas-war,329305Read: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/08/us/lahaina-fire-families.html#:~:text=The%20F.B.I.,survivors%20wonder%20what%20comes%20next.: Read:https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2022/apr/15/fentanyl-involved-in-more-than-half-of-overdose-de/Read: https://pharmacy.wsu.edu/2021/08/23/how-one-professor-is-combating-a-silent-epidemic-in-eastern-washington/Read:https://www.courts.wa.gov/appellate_trial_courts/supreme/bios/?fa=scbios.display_file&file...

And yet, what you eat and how much you move are central to attaining optimal health. Dr. Shenkman says a plant-based diet, plenty of exercise, and a whole-hearted approach to living make up the best prescription of all. And in The Vegan Heart Doctor s Guide to Reversing Heart Disease, Losing Weight, and Reclaiming Your Life, she lays out a simple, manageable protocol for transitioning to a vegan diet and safely leaving your former, sedentary self in the dust. Yet Dr. Shenkman doesn t just talk the talk; she walks the walk. Interspersed throughout the book s advice, she tells her own remarkable story of how as an adult she became an impressive endurance athlete fueled entirely by a plant-based diet. In an age when healthy living is no longer optional, Dr. Shenkman s message could not be more timely or inspiring. When you read this book, you ll realize heart disease does not mean your life is over. In fact, you can let your diagnosis motivate you to make the needed changes that free you up to finally fully live. Dr Shenkman is a interventional cardiologist in practice in Tarzana, California. Originally from the Detroit area, she attended medical school at Albany Medical College and completed her internal medicine residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her cardiology fellowship training at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, and her interventional cardiology fellowship training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. While she performs complex angioplasties to open up clogged coronary arteries, she prefers to help her patients reduce their risk of heart disease through not only medication, but also a healthy lifestyle, including a plant-based diet and regular exercise. Dr. Shenkman has followed a plant-based diet since 2005. She is an avid athlete, having completed over 100 events of various distances, from sprint triathlons to Ironman distance triathlons, marathons and ultramarathons, and several 100-mile century cycling events. Dr. Shenkman is a strong believer in a plant-based diet for heart health, as numerous studies have demonstrated its benefits in the prevention and even reversal of coronary artery disease. A plant-based diet has fueled her athletic success, and she encourages her patients toward this diet for their own health as well. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for the California chapter of the American College of Cardiology, representing cardiologists in the San Fernando Valley. To Contact Dr Heather Shenkman  drheathershenkman.com Disclaimer:Medical and Health information changes constantly. In this episode of "The Geek in Review," hosts Greg Lambert and Marlene Gebauer engage in a fascinating conversation with legal technology experts Pablo Arredondo, Evan Shenkman, and Darth Vaughn. They discuss their proactive approach to incorporating AI technology, specifically CaseText's CoCounsel, into their legal practice and business operations. Pablo shares, "I think the law is such a fascinating space for this kind of AI because it really brings together two things that are really deep in the human experience, which is language and rules." The guests discuss their experiences in using CoCounsel and its features, such as the ChatGPT feature, which enables them to draft and review documents more efficiently. Evan emphasizes, "The tools are there, and the more that we can sort of get folks up to speed on this stuff, and really help them understand how to use the tools, the better we're all going to be." They explain how the integration of AI in their work has led to improved legal outcomes, happier clients, and better work-life balance for attorneys. Darth notes, "The legal industry tends to be a bit of a slow adopter of technology. It's not because we're not smart or we're not hardworking. I think it's because we're risk-averse." Pablo, Evan, and Darth emphasize the importance of being passionate about leading the way in legal technology advancements. Pablo encourages listeners to embrace this technology with joy, rather than fear, to truly make a difference in their practice and industry. This positive approach helps them excel and bring others along on this transformative journey. The discussion also touches on access to justice issues and how tools like CoCounsel can potentially help bridge the justice gap. By being intentional in utilizing AI technology to assist in pro bono cases, they believe it is possible to make a significant impact on improving access to legal services for those in need. Overall, this episode of "The Geek in Review" offers valuable insights into how AI and CaseText's CoCounsel can revolutionize the legal industry. The guests' passion and joy for embracing cutting-edge technology serve as an inspiration for others to follow suit and lead the way in transforming the legal landscape. If you suffer from heart disease, you are all too familiar with the standard treatment plan of pills, doctor s appointments, and tests. But interventional cardiologist Heather Shenkman, MD, says what happens inside medical offices and hospitals is only a tiny part of what it really takes to heal heart disease. Most conventional doctors barely mention lifestyle. And yet, what you eat and how much you move are central to attaining optimal health. Dr Shenkman is an interventional cardiologist in practice in Tarzana, California. To Contact Dr Heather Shenkman drheathershenkman.com Disclaimer:Medical and Health information changes constantly.
