On the morning of February 14, 1929, a horrific crime took place on the north side of Chicago. Seven men were lined up against the wall of an auto garage and gunned down in cold blood by machine gun fire. The event marked the low point of the violent mob wars that took place in the city of Chicago. It also marked a turning point in attitudes towards prohibition in the United States and the war on organized crime. Walker Smith Jr. was one the greatest boxers of all time. You know him as Sugar Ray Robinson, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He started fighting in 1940, using the name of Robinson because he was underage. From 1943 to 1951 Robinson went on a 91-fight winning streak, the third-longest in professional boxing history. Robinson also became the first boxer to win a divisional world championship five times. After his boxing career ended, Robinson became an entertainer, singing, dancing, and acting on TV shows and a few movies. Hear the story of Sugar Ray Robinson, presented in a 1950 edition of Destination Freedom, and the inside story of his 6th match with the legendary Jake LaMotta, which was called the St. Valentines Day Massacre, on the CBS radio news magazine Hear It Now, in 1951. Put your fedora's on because we are going back to the prohibition era. We are talking about the Saint Valentines Day Massacre with our two heavy hitters Al Scarface Capone and George Bugs Moran. Learn the history and even the hauntings.
The St. Valentine's Day Massacre was a turning point in the fight to end the Prohibition Era in The United States. It revealed that the public had finally grew weary of the bloodshed caused by organized crime. The blame was placed squarely on the imfamous Al Capone, but the massacre remains unsloved to this day. Its almost Valentines day and Bryce's husband STILL has not asked her to be his Valentine. He is for sure fired! For this holiday episode Bryce did some googling and found that the first result that come up when searching for "Valentines day crimes" is the 1929 St. Valentines Day Massacre. Of course she had to cover the story, as well as demand everyone to get mob names ASAP. Which of course we went and found a mob name generator. Amanda claims she did a Valentines day story, but its just a story about three ghostly ladies. This was definitely a "we watched it so that you don't have to" type of show. Taz and Sabu get into a brawl on the show, many matches start and never finish, Sid appeared on the show to powerbomb some fools, the Dudley Boyz reveal their "mysterious benefactor," and we also had a couple of decent matches on the show. Super Crazy and Yoshihiro Tajiri locked up while Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lynn do battle over the TV Title to close the show. In the news, we discuss a Japanese legend passing away, memorializing the 15-year anniversary of the passing of a Mexican legend, WCW Nitro takes a week off from getting stomped by WWF Raw, the Road Dogg seeks help for his addictions, The Giant is set to start with the WWF by St. Valentines Day Massacre (now in the archives), and much more! Have you ever wondered how Forensic Ballistics came about? This case, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, is where it all began. In the 1920's, a slew of Chicago gangsters disguised themselves as police for a shoot out. Eyewitnesses saw them leaving the scene and the public demanded answers. It took heavy convincing to bring in the brand a new forensic analyst from New York, but they managed to do it with the promise of financing his own personal laboratory with a condition that Chicago Police could never enter. But Forensics alone wasn't enough to catch these guys! Listen to this episode and let me know what you think by leaving a review on www.judgycrimegirls.com. Thanks for listening! We got another chance to sit down with one of our favorite Canadians, Jordan from The Nighttime Podcast. He walks us through a case that hit pretty close to home for him. Lindsay Souvannarath, along with co-conspiritors James Gamble and Randall Shepherd planned a mass shooting that would have taken place on Valentines day at the mall in Halifax, CAN. Jordan was there pushing his son around in a carriage that day as the mall was quickly evacuated. Later he got the chance to talk to Souvannarath and was kind enough to share some of his interviews with us.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

56 Years Ago today marks the Firebombing of Malcolm X's East Elmhurst Queens Home, this date is also marked by some of his followers as the Saint Valentines Day Massacre as it occurred on February 14th 1965. What I forgot to mention in the show is that Farrakhan actually moved into this home after it was firebombed and restored. Also we discuss the allegation that Elijah had some type of sexual relations with a grandchild of his. Leon Muhammad was recently asked about this and said that from what he heard from a reliable source in the family that this is true and Elijah Muhammad. An Offer You Can't Refuse: the History of Organized Crime in the United States
In Episode 12, Pettengill examines one of the greatest watershed moments in the history of organized crime, the Chicagoland Beer Wars. Pettengill notes the way in which the fierce competition for territory to distribute alcohol led to appalling violence. Furthermore, he examines how this violence will result in the notorious St. Valentines Day Massacre. Pettengill posits that this violence brought massive amounts of public scrutiny and, consequently, led a younger generation of criminals fundamentally rethink the operational procedures of organized crime.
