Steven Yellin delves deeply into brain function and how we've grooved our swings but our mind is what normally gets in the way of hitting consistently good shots. We learn about turning our intellect off, finding wholeness and the key element being the moment before we start our backswing.
Two of the Top Instructors in the game, Tom Patri and Debbie O'Connell plus former LPGA Tour Commission & Author Charlie Mechem, and the Designer of a program called Fluid Motion Factor, Steve Yellin, Join Me... Debbie O'Connell is annually recognized by the LPGA as a Top 50 Instructor. We delved deeply into our mental approach. We hear about what "flow state" is, her Keys To A Champion Mindset, how to not listen to our inner critic, and how to stay in the moment when we're on pace to shoot our best round ever and our buddies say things like, "hey if you par the last 2 holes you'll break 80." Charlie Mechem has a new book out titled: "Arnie & Jack, Stories Of My Long Friendship with Two Remarkable Men". Listen in as Charlie shares several of the stories in the book including, how he convinced them to co-design The King & The Bear Course at the World Golf Village when neither wanted to do it. We hear how different both men viewed playing golf when they got older, Arnie played every day and Jack rarely plays. He tells the hilarious story of how Arnie couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't go for it on 13 & 15 at Augusta National...do you know how many times I finished 2nd in The Masters? Neither do I. Hello and once again, a very warm welcome to the Flaghunters Golf Podcast. I am honored to introduce to you, Author and Performance Coach, Steven Yellin. Have you ever been perplexed why you can't access the good things you've been working on in your game ? How frustrating is it to have great teachings, do everything we can to get better but when the bell rings, we still struggle with fear, anxiety, or lack of trust ? Just how in the heck do we bring our range game to the 1st Tee ? How can we swing with abandon ? How can we truly "let go" ? In this episode, Steven masterfully explains the "why and the how" behind these all too personal struggles. Steven Yellin grew up in Florida where he was the Florida High School state singles champion and went on to have a great career playing #1 singles at the University of Pennsylvania. As a senior at Penn, in a tennis match, he had an experience that would forever change his life. It was a deep experience of the Zone. Inspired by that deep Zone experience , Steven's next 45 years have been dedicated to developing the Fluid Motion Factor program. This program has been taught in twelve sports, including seven pro sports. His latest book, "Simplicity, The Fluid Motion Factor Golf Program", is the latest edition of his methodologies to access our hard earned abilities and have them show up when we want them to. I recommend listening to this episode more than once because Steven's info is very dense, and, simplistic truth all at the same time. Lastly, a big THANK YOU to Steven for sharing his time and enlightening all of us with his thought provoking and wonderful wisdom ! Jesse
On this episode our panel welcomes Steven Yellin of Fluid Motion Golf to the show. Steven has worked with top touring professionals on the PGA and LPGA tours to improve their games by finding their "wholeness". It was Back to the Future at the Valspar as Sam Burns wins for consecutive years, much to the delight of Co-Host Allen DePuy - who picked and bet on him! It is great to have back with us on the Brain Booster Steven Yellin Steven was an extremely popular guest along with his colleague Fred Travis. The book he has written is called ‘Simplicity' The title says it all and it is a direction we should all perhaps be moving more towards Steven's work is all about Fluid Motion The ability to access what you already have. The motion that is actually stored in your motor system. How many of us would be delighted to just be able to get to access what we KNOW we can already do? So many golfers instinctively know that what they bring to the golf course is only a fraction of their true capabilities In todays show we also explore how to actually change movements within the Fluid Motion philosophy. What trying to ‘change' is not always the best option. Why the desire to always be BETTER can sometimes really get in the way of any progress. We look at the best ways to coach beginners from a Fluid Motion How the brain incorporates the commands you give The vital role of the cerebellum and how to make sure you do not compromise its genius All in all a great episode which will really get you thinking Stevens book is called ‘Simplicity' NEW APP - The Mind Caddie for IOS here: https://apps.apple.com/my/app/mind-caddie-play-better-golf/id1567910600 For Android here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mindcaddie.android
In this episode, I am joined by the creator of the Fluid Motion Factor program and the book Simplicity, Steven Yellin. The Fluid Motion Factor program helps athletes access the grooved motion and skills they already possess in competition. We discuss how this program works, how it applies to golf, and other golf psychology tips to improve your golf game.
789: Steven Yellin, creator, author, and teacher of the Fluid Motion Factor, listed a testimonial on his website from David Leadbetter that sums it up, “It’s pretty simple. The Fluid Motion Factor Program will make you more consistent. End of story!” If you believe that your mental game contributes to lower scores, then this episode is for you. Steven’s revolutionary training program allows you to be more consistent. But this isn’t sports psychology, this is a neurophysiological process in the mind that EVERY golfer has to experience in order to produce a fluid golf swing. He’ll work with you one on one, but be prepared because in our conversation, he says you can’t afford it. But he was generous enough to offer Golf Smarter listeners a 10% discount on his online program. Something that’s he’s never done before. Find more at fluidmotiongolf.com. Special thanks to Tony Wright (ep787) for introducing us to Steven! This week on Golf Smarter Mulligans 105, even though Tony Manzoni had tremendous success coaching the Men’s golf program at College of the Desert, he didn’t focus on Men’s golf only. Tony had tremendous respect for the women’s game and believed that amateur golfers at all skill levels could learn a lot from watching the LPGA Tour. He also spent a lot of time working with children who were exceptional golfers and had a future in the professional game.Tony’s book “The Lost Fundamental: One Simple Move. In this episode Steven Yellin, author of Simplicity and developer of the revolutionary training program Fluid Motion Factor joins us to chat about getting in the zone. Steven was an extremely accomplished Tennis player who won the Florida state high school tennis singles championships whilst also being a member of the championship team. He then went on to have a successful college career playing #1 singles at the University of Pennsylvania. For 45 years he has researched how people access Fluid Motion and get into "The Zone" to maximise Sports performance. We wanted to discuss his book Simplicity and also get an idea into the Fluid Motion Factor and why an increasing number of Golfers are adapting it.
Steven Yellin has developed a revolutionary training program that allows athletes to be more consistent. This process is called the Fluid Motion Factor. On this episode of The Wednesday Match Play Podcast presented by MemberText Steven will give you an overview of Fluid Motion Factor, talks about the LPGA, PGA and Champions Tour winners using this program, his other book "The 7 Secrets to World Class Athletes" and his epic win against John McEnroe. He also talks about his relationship with David Leadbetter and how COVID-19 has impacted his business. This was a really fun episode, almost a science class, and I am honored to have Steven on the show. Let's tee off.
On this episode GSL and Coach Tim welcome Steven Yellin talking about his book Simplicity and the Fluid Motion Factor Golf Program. Learn to unlock your flow state and quiet down the chatter inside your over-worked golf brain!
Over the past number of weeks on the Brain Booster we have had a reoccurring theme. That of ACCEPTANCE. Steven Yellin mentioned it as a pre requisite for the emergence of fluid motion. Dr Joe Parent mentioned it as a requirement to experience Zen Golf. I wanted today then to take the opportunity to dive deeper into what acceptance is and perhaps more importantly what it isn’t. So much of the benefits of acceptance are paradoxical in nature. We need to be careful we don’t confuse acceptance with resignation. We are also not in any way saying acceptance is not about aiming for good results. The Brain Booster is all about performance. What I do firmly believe is that acceptance can be a ‘reverse engineering’ of results. It can actually provide you with the environment whereby results emerge. In today’s show I look at how acceptance can actually help you to swing the club better Get more from your coaching Develop other areas of your life with acceptance How acceptance leads to ACTION How you create true freedom Hopefully today’s show brings together lots of the key concepts we have been discussing for many months on the Brain Booster Acceptance needs commitment and DAILY intention It is really beneficial to create accountability with a coach or mentor Do you want to become a Certified Mind Factor coach? Building excellence through Mind – Brain development. A couple of weeks ago we had on the show Steven Yellin talking about his book ‘Simplicity’ and discussing his concepts around ‘The Fluid Motion Factor’ It was a great show and we had a lot of good feedback. Some of Steven’s concepts around fluid motion seemed to really resonate with so many players. The idea that we don’t ‘lose’ our swing but we lose ACCESS to that swing. A huge influence on Steven Yellin’s work has been Dr Fred Travis. Fred is a neuroscientist and he was able to describe WHY from a brain perspective WHY Steven’s program would work. I managed to get then both together and we had a wonderful discussion about optimising your BRAIN PERFORMANCE. Fred explained in such a lucid way HOW and WHY we get in our own way in terms of performance. And more importantly how we can get out of our own way! We looked in even more detail as to why ACCEPTANCE of outcome could be THE most important mental game skill and what is happening in the brain when we are in a state of acceptance. We looked into the immense benefits of MEDITATION In particular Trancendental Meditation How to access the brain states more often that will encourage a ZONE experience. Why having a daily practice is SO vitally important for long term development and improvement of your game. It was a wonderful conversation. Both men bring a true warmth and passion to their work. You can only improve by looking into what they had to say. Enjoy the show Do YOU want to become a Mind Factor coach? In this episode I discuss with Steven Yellin, author of his new book Simplicity and creator of the Fluid Motion Factor Program, how to help players access what they already own. This isn't about sports psychology as that pertains to emotions, attitudes, beliefs and self-confidence. The Fluid Motion Factor is a neurophysiological processes in the mind that every golfer has to experience in order to produce a fluid golf swing. Steven Yellin has developed a revolutionary training program that allows athletes to be more consistent. He has a company that has worked in seven professional sports, including MLB, NHL, NBA and the NFL. He started his company with former World Series hero Buddy Biancalana of the Kansas City Royals. Steven has worked with golfers on the PGA, LPGA, and Asian Tour that have won five Major championships and over $75 million in prize money. As a senior in high school, Steven won the Florida state high school tennis singles championships and was a member of the championship team. He went on to have a successful college career playing #1 singles at the University of Pennsylvania and being a member of the All-Ivy team. He also had a win over John McEnroe while at Penn.In his senior year, Steven had a deep Zone experience that changed his understanding of sports. It led him on a life-long quest to develop a simple and powerful program to teach athletes in all sports how to set the subtle conditions that allow them to access what they already own, fluidmotiongolf.com, zonetraining.net. There is one process in the mind that when an athlete accesses, the body is free to do what it knows best. Steven calls this process the Fluid Motion Factor. It is not based on sports psychology, but on how the mind produces fluid motion in every sport. Accessing this process usually comes and goes on its own volition. Steven teaches golfers how to access it on demand. It will make you a more consistent golfer very quickly! In this episode we cover:The Fluid Motion FactorThe importance of wholenessHow to change your practiceHow to access what you already ownThe 5 fears of an athleteImportant Links: https://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Steven-Yellin/dp/1735169854https://fluidmotiongolf.com/

It is great to welcome today on the Brain Booster Steven Yellin the author of a wonderful book called ‘Simplicity’. The content we discuss today could literally transform the way you look at your game and your relationship to your swing and the concepts around ‘technique’. Steven’s program ‘The Fluid Motion Factor’ has been taught in numerous sports. I believe this could be a MAJOR contribution in the evolution of coaching. Right at the heart of Stevens work is the key question: ‘If you could access what you currently own in terms of your golf game would you be happy?’ How many golfers are trying to ‘change’ their swing without EVER getting the best out of what they currently have? So much of what Steven has written about is based on a deeper understanding of how the brain works to produce a fluid motion. How we get in the way of the brains innate ability to make a motion. We discuss critical factors The role of the Cerebellum – The master KEY to unlocking your game The Pre Frontal Cortex – How the ‘intellect’ within us all actually gets in the way of sporting progress. How the brain has an innate ability to ‘self correct’ if it is left to its own devices. We look into the concept of achieving WHOLENESS with the brain to allow the fluid motion factor to emerge. The idea that ‘small targets’ COULD be so damaging to your game. How they create a block in the fluid motion. Why the target is not always your friend and how over emphasis on this can cause you problems. I firmly believe that Steven has written a book that will become a major contribution to teaching in sport. It is based around how your brain CREATES motion. In so many ways this should be at the front and centre of so many coaching discussions instead of the endless opinions on what the motion needs to look like. The way the brain creates movement or perhaps more importantly how we get in the way of that may well be the defining frontier in the future of the game. Enjoy todays podcast. Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career
The last combat mission of World War II began Aug. 15, 1945, when fighter pilot Jerry Yellin and his wingman, 19-year-old Philip Schlamberg, took off from Iwo Jima to attack airfields near Nagoya, Japan. The war seemed all but over. Germany had surrendered in May, and much of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were in ruins, decimated by atomic bombs dropped the previous week. If Mr. Yellin heard a code word — “Utah” — Japan’s rumored surrender had occurred, and he was to cancel his mission and return to Iwo Jima, a rocky island that he had helped secure months earlier and that offered a base for American bombers headed north to Japan. Later that day, on what was still Aug. 14 in the United States, Emperor Hirohito announced Japan’s surrender. For some reason, however, Mr. Yellin and Schlamberg never got the message. Taking on antiaircraft fire in their P-51 Mustangs, they strafed their targets and headed home, passing through a thick bank of clouds. Schlamberg, who had previously admitted a sense of foreboding to Mr. Yellin, saying, “If we go on this mission, I’m not coming back,” never emerged from the haze. Disappearing from Mr. Yellin’s wing, he was presumed dead and considered one of the last Americans to be killed in combat during World War II. Mr. Yellin in 2015. (Lightfinder Public Relations) Mr. Yellin, who landed on Iwo Jima to discover that the war had ended three hours earlier, and who later became an outspoken advocate of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, died Dec. 21 at his son Steven Yellin’s home in Orlando. He was 93 and had lung cancer, his son said. For Mr. Yellin, the war was a hellish necessity, essential for halting the spread of Nazism and Japanese aggression. But he also spoke forthrightly about its costs, including the mental anguish over memories of combat that nearly led him to suicide. He recalled with particular horror the experience of landing on war-torn Iwo Jima for the first time, where “there wasn’t a blade of grass and there were 28,000 bodies rotting in the sun.” “The sights and the sounds and the smells of dead bodies and the sights of Japanese being bulldozed into mass graves absolutely never went away,” he told the Washington Times in August. Mr. Yellin, a captain in the 78th Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Forces, counted 16 downed pilots in his unit during the war, including Schlamberg. For years afterward, he struggled to keep a steady job, moving a dozen times in the United States and Israel (where he settled, at one point, partly in protest of the Vietnam War). He eventually found solace through Transcendental Meditation, a twice-daily technique of silent concentration that his wife introduced him to in 1975 after she saw the practice’s originator, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, on “The Merv Griffin Show.” Mr. Yellin soon began speaking to other veterans who struggled to adapt to civilian life, and in 2010 he co-founded Operation Warrior Wellness, a division of the David Lynch Foundation that helps veterans learn Transcendental Meditation. He said he was inspired to start the group after a friend and Army veteran killed himself that year. Mr. Yellin received support in promotional videos by actress Scarlett Johansson, a grandniece of Schlamberg. “The feeling that one has when a buddy dies? You just can’t emulate that. We have a burden civilians will never understand,” Mr. Yellin told The Washington Post earlier this month, shortly after the release of “The Last Fighter Pilot,” an account of his World War II service written with Don Brown.
Steven Yellin is our guest from Fluid Motion Factor. A little bit about Steven Yellin. Steven Yellin began his athletic career playing tennis at the age of 12. He competed locally and nationally and won the Florida state high school singles championship in 1971 and was a member of the winning championship team. Recruited heavily, he chose the University of Pennsylvania where he was the number one player on the team. He was a member of the All-Ivy League tennis team in 1973 and had a win over John McEnroe in a dual match during his college career. As a senior at Penn, Yellin had an extraordinary Zone experience that radically changed his understanding of sports. It was an experience unlike anything he ever experienced on the court before. Though he played on a level never before attained, he realized that the factors that precipitated this experience was something that was not taught in any lesson he had ever taken (and he had taken quite a few!), and for that matter not taught in sports anywhere. For the next 35 years, he worked on developing a systematic program that allow athletes in every sport to set up the very subtle experience in their mind that allows for Zone experiences. Though he teaches something from a mental level, his program is not based on sports psychology, but rather on a crucial neurophysiological experience that has to occur in an athletes mind in order to play on an exceptionally high level. The inner feeling when athletes have this experience is that time slows down, the intellect becomes quiet and the motion becomes effortless. Yellin's program is not based on sports psychology because it does not involve emotions, beliefs, attitudes, self-confidence or any type of visualization. Though all these elements are crucial for the development of an athlete, these attributes develop naturally and holistically when they learn his program. This is one of the reasons why the program is so revolutionary and successful. Its uniqueness lies in although it is a mental program and is based on the mind, it does not fall under the rubric of sports psychology. Essentially, the program teaches a golfer how to systematically access the muscle memory they already have. Yellin's program takes the mystery out of that hit or miss affair and explains what needs to occur in order to play well. He considers himself a 'motion expert', a title that is opening up a new field in sports. A motion expert is someone that understands motion from the most fundamental level and teaches a program that allows someone to consistently repeat where motion originates. The reason for the lengthy time needed to develop Yellin's program is that when an athlete does go into the Zone, it is a very subtle experience. Athletes, for the most part, are not too sure why they slip into the Zone and hence they have a difficult time replicating it. It is a very subtle dance during a Zone experience and Yellin had to examine that experience from every conceivable angle in order to replicate it successfully and ensure it stays for an extended time.

Are you a golfer who struggles with consistency or getting/staying "in the zone"? Steven Yellin has spent 30 years creating a systematic process to help all athletes achieve the flow state we desire. Take a listen and maybe you can pick up some things that will help you get there quicker and stay there longer! Consistency through brain science EPISODE FEATURED GUEST: STEVEN YELLIN Steven teaches at the David Leadbetter Academy at ChampionsGate in Orlando Florida and has a book called The Fluid Motion Factor. It really dives into the brain science and the motion behind that. It’s almost like the building blocks to the “in-the-zone performance.” Steven has dealt with 13 different sports including seven different professional teams. IN THIS PODCAST EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Something happens in the mind that let’s the muscles be free and move the way how they know how to move. What triggers this “experience” is that the mind starts to become very quiet. Because every shot counts in golf, it creates a lot more drama and gets the hard-drive spinning in the brain because you know there’s not a second chance. By asking a player to do something very specific, it instantly accesses this part of the mind that let’s something in the mind be free-this state is called the fluid motion factor. The fluid motion factor is a neurological process in the mind. What is setting one and how to create wholeness right before you pull the trigger. Recognize if you feel the same way or not when you hit the ball without a target versus with a target. Steven’s book recommendation: The 7 Secrets of World Class Athletes. Once you develop muscle memory, it’s there; you don’t have to worry about it. You don’t have to reinvent everything when you play. Just know that you’ve hit enough good shots in your career that the shots are there, you just have to start simplifying.
