Born six weeks early, Cameron needed to be resuscitated at birth and spent the next several weeks in the NICU, growing and getting stronger. At just over a year old, Cameron wasn't meeting his milestones. His doctors at the Stollery discovered Cameron had a tethered spinal cord, similar to spina bifida where his spinal cord was attached to the base of his back. He couldn't walk or sit up. At 15 months old, Cameron had his first of many surgeries to release his spinal cord. When Cameron turned three, he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and the doctors believe another diagnosis is still waiting to be found. Cameron has many medical conditions which have led to multiple surgeries and procedures, causing him to spend more than 600 days at the Stollery. Today, Cameron wears leg braces and uses his wheelchair almost every day because he tires quickly.

Stage V engines are different, so how will they change the industry, and how can rental companies, in particular, benefit by investing in equipment powered by them? Peter Haddock asks all these questions and more to Dave Stollery of Perkins Engines in the latest edition of our Think Tank Series, supported by 3D Machine Control and Surveying specialist Leica Geosystems. Think Tank is all about how we should think about, in this case, getting the most out of the diesel or HVO fuel in the tank. So this episode is all about productivity, uptime, efficiency, and ultimately reducing carbon emissions by understanding the benefits of equipment using Stage V engines. As Peter discovers in this podcast, a Stage V engine complete with after-treatment needs to be run harder. And thanks to the research and development of Stage V technologies, the increases in engine performance can even reduce the size needed to power a machine. Knowing how to maintain Stage V engines is also important when delivering that vital uptime for rental fleets and end-users. So why not listen to Dave and Peter as they cover the topic in this in-depth podcast. Thanks for listening to this episode of our Think Tank series, supported by Leica Geosystems, the 3D machine control and surveying specialist. This was a fun conversation. I always find it so cool to hear stories about how people get into this industry. Today you will meet Richard Fyk, Co-Founder of SYC Brewing in Edmonton, Alberta. Richard did not start out in Hospitality, and I think that's what makes this such a cool story because he loves it, he gets it, and SYC is doing some really amazing things and creating some awesome beers. A part of this conversation that I loved so much was when we spoke about a regular guest of SYC whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer, for him, and the Stollery, they created a beer called Mana Ohana (meaning family strength in Hawaiian), it's such a heartwarming story. I hope you enjoy this conversation and if you haven't had the chance to try SYC Brewing yet maybe this is your call to do just that and support an amazing local brewery.

Martin Stollery is the author of a monograph on Youssef Chahine's The Emigrant, the most sustained analysis of any one Youssef Chahine film I've been able to find in English. Here we talk about the film itself, how it allegorises, the meaning and uses of water in Chahine's films, the famous court case that is part of the context of the film's release, and the film's relationship to Biblical epics as well as Youssef Chahine's more personal style of filmmaking. An illuminating discussion of texts, contexts and modes of analysis that ends with a renewed appreciation of Chahine's achievements as a director.
