This month we continued the South African safari. We stayed in several tented camps along our route. Every national park has it animal specialties, so visiting several gives visitors a broad perspective on animal viewing and habitats. We did of course manage to see the big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, cape buffalo, and elephants) plus hundreds of other type of animals and birds. Tented camps are outposts in remote areas that offer visitors easy access to the game and a secure compound to spend the night. Although they are called tented camps, and do have canvas tents, they are on the boondocking style tents pitched temporarily by visitors. Instead they are permanent tents erected on cement pads with rooms for sleeping, changing and toilet/shower. Most are run by generator so power is limited although some of our camps had A/C. Game drives are a daily event beginning very early (before dawn) when the animals are active. A game drive is just that, driving around in an open 4x4 looking for animals doing their thing be it grazing or killing. No one knows what will be around the next bend, so game drives can be exciting or boring depending on the day and location. The drivers have radios so important animal sightings can be shared. At the end of the safari we headed back to cape town to begin our cruise which will end up in Lisbon at the end of March.

This Talk Travel Asia podcast features two experts on Tented Camps, a unique accommodation option for getting up close and personal with the great outdoors while traveling in Asia. Where one stays while traveling can make or break a trip. Sometimes a shared dorm room does the trick, while other times it’s a suite with private plunge-pool. As more travelers hit the road and gain experience, they often want to push the travel-envelope further. And with that comes more innovative lodging experiences. Tented camps have been a mainstay on safaris in Africa for decades but they’re pretty new to the Asia travel scene. Over the last decade there has been an increase in tented camps throughout the region and we’ll dive into the trend with two experts who have recently opened a tented camp in Cambodia.

I recently discovered your podcast and cannot stop listening! I have been trying to figure out the answer to this question for a while and didn't know who to turn to until I heard your podcast! Our photographer is awesome. We love his work and booked him for our engagement photos and our wedding. The main photographer (& owner) has 8 kids (seriously), and I have seen that he likes to bring his oldest son (looks 14 or 15) along with him to engagement photos and weddings and has him take pictures as the second photgrapher instead of a more experienced member of the team. It doesn't seem like he is bringing his son to teach him. Meaning him and his son are the team taking pictures, not the owner and another experienced member of the company. I'm sure that his son is a great photographer, but I really don't trust him to take pictures on the most important day of my life. We are contracted to have the owner and a second shooter take our pictures that day (along with another for video), and I'm nervous that the owner will try to make the second shooter his son. Plus, my wedding is from 7pm - 12:30am - how is a 15-year-old going to stay awake and focused for that long, until the early hours?  So, how do I tell them/make it clear that I absolutely do not want his son to be there and want a real professional photographer to be his assistant (without offending him)? Thanks in advance!!!!  Remember you can reach us anytime by emailing info@fromringtoveil.com   Subscribe to the podcast: {Apple Podcasts} {Google Play} {Stitcher} {Youtube} {iHeartradio} -Until next time, No Stress No Worries Keep Calm and Listen On-

The indoor venue features a beautiful terrazzo dance floor, glowing wood paneling, three crystal chandeliers, and patio that overlooks our estate. The  Main Venue rental includes the bar, deck, and main dining and dance floor area. Note the average wedding at the estate is 175 guests. Main Indoor Venue The Main Venue was originally built in 1941 and has a very rich and colorful history. It features a beautiful terrazzo dance floor, glowing wood paneling three crystal chandeliers, and four handmade gold-leafed Corinthian columns. The main venue can seat 120 people with a dance floor. That being said, our average guest count for events May-October is between 150-200 people. A table layout with the indoor and outdoor combination is common. Special Notes: There is a state of the art heating, cooling and sound system. Our sound system resides inside of the 1920 Art Deco Jukeboxes and plays in the main venue, bathrooms, bar, deck, and portico and includes a wireless microphone. The system has the ability to play CDs, or anything with a headphone jack hook up (computer, iPads, iPods, iPhones, etc). La Capanna Our second indoor location and it is our most intimate event space for ceremonies or lectures of less than 60 people and receptions with dining tables of less than 30 people.  In addition, this space is often used as cocktail events. Board meetings, silent auctions and features a 70-inch tv. Special Notes: Commellini Estate is known for its Prohibition past and for hiding moonshine in the many underground tunnels. This building is the front to one of the underground tunnels. We are currently working on renovations of the speakeasy bar which will be in the opening of the tunnel. Creekside This location is right on the edge of Spring Creek where you can hear the tranquil sounds of the rushing water. The capacity for this location is 185 guests. Included in all packages are various décor options for the white Tuscan gazebo, although you are more than welcome to bring in your own unique elements or keep it simple. This location has also been used for creekside dinners, yard games, and various other activities. Special Notes: During spring, the right bank is filled with wildflowers. The flower pots on the left side are filled with tall ivy that cascades down the wall. The bridge beyond the trellis is frequently used as a photo location because of the 9-foot waterfall on the other side. Pond Side Have your event along our pond and acres of manicured grass and pine trees. This is our largest location and can hold parties up to 300 people for any style seating. When holding your ceremonies, lectures, or concerts at the pond-side location you can do two tiers of seating with “balcony” seating on the grass.  The pots surrounding the pond are filled with flowers and ferns in season. Special Notes: If you continue to walk south there is a flat location of grass that can also host events. Patio The patio is frequently used for cocktail events, garden parties, brunch, dancing, photo booths, or additional seating. We have 6 gorgeous glass and iron deck furniture that can seat 30 people. We can also set the patio with round tables seating up to 50 guests. Special Notes: The large willow tree that hangs over the deck is lit with twinkle lights and creates a very romantic atmosphere for dancing or as a photo opportunity. Listener question! Soon after I arrived in Kathmandu on May 12, 2015, the day the 7.3 earthquake struck the country fear, like a virus, once again spread throughout cities, towns and villages everywhere. People had just started to resume regular life, minimally their usual routines amid the crumbling buildings, destruction and homelessness that many faced. Tented camps and communities were seen around the Kathmandu Valley with many local volunteers helping their fellow Nepalis in time of need. When the second biggest earthquake struck it sent many people back outside to sleep outdoors, fearing more collapsed buildings, injury or death. I continued to wander the streets of Kathmandu and other towns in the Kathmandu Valley speaking with local people and seeing how their lives were affected by the earthquakes. It was truly inspiring to see Nepalis, themselves affected in some way by the earthquakes helping their fellow citizens. At the same time the stories of fear, loss, death and destruction was overwhelming. I was humbled at the incredible strength and resilience these people demonstrated in circumstances that would be far too difficult for most.
