With that, they rode and jumped bareback and bridleless, they galloped up mountainsides, swam in rivers, sat and ate blackberries together.  Doing it “right” or “wrong,” being on a schedule or agenda, none of this ever came into play. They were just doing it for the joy,  the trust, the love, and the connection that they had with each other in partnership. Because of this connection and that true partnership, they felt they were able to do anything together.  Camille Carson started Driftwood Horse Rescue and Sanctuary because of her love of horses and to battle the slaughter pipeline for horses in the US.  She recently was joined by Timea Chemez as the Executive Director.  They discuss the journey to running a horse rescue facility and all the daily challenges and blessings that have come out of it.  Steve Mallett and Michelle Lewis meet the most interesting people, and discover the places and events that make Dripping Springs, Texas, a Hill Country oasis. My guest for this episode, Dean Johanesen, first appeared on the podcast in July of 2018. This is his third feature on the Unstarving Musician. He has a new album called Cautionary Tales, which is out Feb 3, 2023. This date is also the anniversary of the release of King King (1933). Dean says that this release seems to fit his style perfectly with its influence of swing music ala Django Reinhardt, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, Louis Jordan etc.  With a sonic palette that dips into speakeasy-era Americana, and swingin' Hot Club jazz doused in circus tent hues, the New York-native has made his home in many parts of the United States. Dean's mother delivered motor homes when he was young and the family traveled around listening to a wide range of artists. Hearing everything from Led Zeppelin to Simon and Garfunkel, classic country to Broadway Musicals. That provided the soundtrack of Dean's youth and heavily influenced Dean's interests musically. In 2013, Dean released his first solo record focused on the storyteller songwriting format. Meanwhile, a recent passion for Hot Club jazz music in the vein of Django Reinhardt put him on a musical path of telling new stories of old times.  Non-fictional characters from the '20s and '30s – circus performers, the sideshow, prohibition, the war of currents (Tesla vs. Edison) all inform Dean's writing. These stories are projected against a backdrop of uptempo jazz in a style Dean has coined "Circus Swing." In this conversation we talk about mutual acquaintances, the Dripping Springs Songwriters Festival, Album Artwork Development, Song Reference Files, Journals, Record Release Mode, Balancing Creative Time, The Arc Of Writing A Thematic Album, Writing Press Releases, Framework Of Release Campaign, Heightened Creativity Of Songwriters Festivals and more. "Dean is simultaneously a throwback to an era of gypsy jazz and circuses while pointing the way to what will always be timely" - Steve Huntington, Sirius/XM Radio Margaritaville  You can find all things Dean Johanesen, including stories and songs from his forthcoming album, Cautionary Tales at DeanJohanesen.com. Joey and Dina Schechter met working for a short-term rental hospitality company. As two motivated, hard-working individuals, they were instantly drawn to each other. They were both parts of the operations team at an Austin hospitality company so they worked closely alongside one another often. While building out rooms and organizing inventory, they got to know each other quite well.  Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic cost them both our jobs and they were left, for lack of a better word, devastated. It was a difficult time not being able to work and they decided to take their financial future into their own hands. They started to brainstorm a plan for their hospitality company. They put together a business proposal and managed to raise funding through their network – voila!, Dijo Homes was born. Now they manage 20 homes around Austin and own 8 of them. Steve Mallett and Michelle Lewis meet the most interesting people, and discover the places and events that make Dripping Springs, Texas, a Hill Country oasis. Learn why every year, hundreds of people move to this small town just outside of Austin. Every episode features a local resident who's talent and past will make you want to know more about what draws so many unique people to this historical town. From ranchers to engineers, cowboys to entrepreneurs, bankers to bull riders. New episodes weekly. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com This is part two of a two-part series about our 2022 Midwest motorcycle trip. In June 2022, members of Law Abiding Biker™ Media along with members of the Sworn Few LEMC embarked on a 10-day, 4000-mile, 5-state cross-country motorcycle trip. This trip would take us out of Washington State and into Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. We stayed over in cities such as Butte, Montana, Bismark, North Dakota, Duluth, Minnesota, Minot, North Dakota, Havre, Montana, and Whitefish, Montana. You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plan HERE.  We took a day trip along Lake Superior, which was a great ride and a lot of fun.  You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plan HERE.  There will be a motorcycle documentary film released later on this entire trip and experience! SEE ALL LAW ABIDING BIKER MEDIA DOCUMENTARY FILMS HERE! We visited many places and saw a ton of great country on our Midwest motorcycle trip. We stayed at some good and not-so-good hotels and motels. We ate at some good restaurants and some bad ones. We experienced good and bad weather and a few of the bikes experienced some mechanical problems that had to be fixed. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We had some very funny times as a group and made memories that will last a lifetime. Everything that happened shaped the trip in some way. Listen in as we tell all the stories of our Midwest motorcycle trip. We also share tips and tricks to assist riders who may be thinking of a long-distance motorcycle road trip. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Our Patron Members support us financially, so we can continue to help as many bikes as we can worldwide. Of course, our Patron Members get benefits and exclusive access such as meetups.  Unfortunately, due to health reasons, I was unable to plan a Patron meetup this year.   There is usually an awesome day ride prepared for the members. We have plenty of time to visit and get to know each other on a more personal level. We normally end the day at a private location where the Patron Members enjoyed a catered dinner by Law Abiding Biker Media!  We look forward to doing a Patron Meetup Ride on our next summer trip.   NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Ciro Dryforce Waterproof Cooler and Travel Bags for Motorcycles | Review Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE!
