Kyle Schill, 45, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson, Texas with Pastor Cary Killough presiding. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 19th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Kyle was born on October 24th, 1975 to Donald Fred Schill and Mary Jane Schill in Houston, Texas. As a child he often spent his weekends and summers at his grandparents' ranch in Donie, Texas. The family later moved to Donie to help run the family ranch, SW&S Cattle Company, where they raised and showed Charolais cattle. Kyle graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1994 and then attended Trinity Valley College earning a degree in Ranch Management. In 2005, Kyle met his wife, Shay, and they were united in marriage on February 18, 2006. Together they created a life in Robinson, Texas with their four beautiful children: Taylen, Laken, Finley and Channing. Kyle was a devoted husband, a loving father, son, brother, uncle and a loyal friend to all. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football and old westerns; however, his absolute favorite pastime other than being at his kids' events was life at the ranch and sharing it with his children. Kyle was employed by RDO Equipment Company in Hewitt, Texas, for the past 15 years, where he was in his element of never meeting a stranger and working on a “heck-of a deal”. He made lifelong friends not only with his colleagues, but with the customers he served. Kyle is reunited in heaven with their two daughters, Lainie Grace Schill and Harper Reese Schill; his beloved mother, Mary Jane Schill; his paternal grandparents, Gilbert Pier Schill and Hazel Louise Schill; his maternal grandparents, Arthur Benjamin Lewis and Lillian Lucille Lewis; his cousin, Case Bradley Beken. He will be forever loved and missed by his devoted wife of 15 years, Shay, and their loving children, Taylen Paige, Laken Dean, Finley Marie and Channing Reese; his father and best friend, Donald Schill and wife, Kathy of Donie, Texas; his adored big brother, Craig Schill and wife, Elyse of Donie, Texas; his dearly loved sister, Debby Smith and Lee Ivey of Houston, Texas; his nieces, Kimberly, Danielle, Kaitlin and Ellie; nephews, Trent, Tyler and Luke; his beloved uncles and aunts, Sonny and Carol Lewis, Lucille Gaskamp, Larry and Peggy Lewis; his in-laws, Len and Sherri Williams; along with his numerous cousins, great nieces, great nephew and a countless number of friends from far and near. Pallbearers: Craig Schill, Bobby Riffenburg, David Waddle, Kade Thompson, Trent Harris, Jason Bosley, Micah Zimmerman, Si Hanna, Trey Kizer, Trent Smith, Tyler Smith. Honorary Pallbearers: Clint Wilson, Corey Bass, Jason Drummond, Sy Rhodes, Jason Sandell, Shayne Mehringer, Steven Lewis, Mitch Bynum, John Marek, Phil Shaunfield, and Bill Bailey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kyle Dean Schill (KD) Memorial Fund at Educators Credit Union (locations: Waco, Hewitt or Robinson, Texas).
Trent was drawn to Franklinton while working for a local bank. Franklinton had fallen on hard times due to a series of natural disasters, an exodus of industry, a rise in poverty, and an influx of drugs and crime. Over time, Trent became a passionate advocate for the area, leading first to a job with the neighborhood's board of trade, and eventually to Trent becoming a resident. Trent shares the how the area is now becoming a desirable up-and-coming neighborhood, and he shares a vision of a future where Franklinton is a thriving community that attracts new residents and businesses, but also lifts up the lives of the long term residents of the area. Trent Smith has been the Executive Director of the Franklinton Board of Trade (FBOT) since January of 2010. FBOT serves as the chamber of commerce for the Franklinton neighborhood, but unlike a traditional chamber it is a 501c3 non-profit. This status gives FBOT the latitude to do important community work based on three pillars of focus: Advocate, Beautify, Connect. In addition to business development, Trent organizes networking events, clean-up / beautification projects and socializing hours for FBOT members and guests. He works to create strong connections and relationships between the business community, non-profit community, and the residents of Franklinton. Franklinton Board of Trade (https://www.franklintonbot.org/) also serves to manage the Franklinton Special Improvement District of Columbus, Inc., which is designed to provide full time safety and cleaning services to a defined area of the Franklinton community. Prior to 2010 Trent spent 18 years in banking, most recently as the Branch Manager/AVP for WesBanco Bank's Gahanna, OH office. Part of his role there was to serve as the community development outreach director, which is what brought him to Franklinton in the first place. Trent has had the opportunity to serve as a director on a variety of boards through his career, including the Neighborhood Design Center, the East Franklinton Review Board, Community Crime Patrol, Habitat for Humanity, Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce, Community Shares, Lower Lights, Inc., Franklinton Development Association and Franklinton Area Commission. He is a resident of Franklinton, where he lives with his wife, Joanna and his son, Quinn. Trent can be reached at trent@franklintonbot.org or (614) 398-2435. His standing invitation, to you the listener, is to contact him, then come down and hang out with him, where he will be happy to meet you at The Patio Bar for an Italian Sub and an introduction to the salt of the earth citizens of Franklinton. 20 shows! Wow! I think back to my initial conversations with Duncan in a bar downtown and I doubt we ever expected to get an audience as large as we now have (which has doubled in the last month), the number of great, brilliant people working with us around the world, and the wonderful feedback we have been getting, thanks to you all! We continue to look at Bad at Sports as an open resource, so let us know what you think. If you want to contribute (particularly if you are somewhere other than Chicago), let us know! We are here as a public resource. Thanks! Also, curious minds are still waiting to hear a good explanation of why, without permission from the artist, UIC took the Death by Design piece down off of the Temporary Allegiance flag pole at Gallery 400. Someone please enlighten us. Check out the cool pictures of us Duncan posted: http://www.badatsports.com/pages/about.htm Lane Relyea purportedly thinks we are cool. THIS WEEK: We interview Mark Booth--artist, teacher, and curator of the forthcoming “an incomplete map of everything? festival at Links Hall. Per the Links Hall press release: “an incomplete map of everything is a fragmentary atlas of an imaginary world. The festival is comprised of co-existing “landforms? of an experimental nature; the Goldsmith archipelago, the Bök atoll, the plateaus of Goulish, the Bervin Sea, the isthmus of Mallozzi, and the fjord of Ross. There are other topographical features as well, both familiar and unfamiliar; emerging glaciers, new volcanoes, and uncharted estuaries. If there is one thing these artists have in common apart from their shared commitment to experimentation and investigative exploration it is their interest in probing the minimal elements that form the materiality of human experience.? Mark also talks about being mistaken for a spaceman. Richard and Amanda apologize to Duncan for creating confusion over the name Middle Management. Duncan and Amanda fight TO THE DEATH over whether or not it is acceptable to curate yourself into a show. And, finally, Richard insists you bow down to the genius of Patti Smith’s first record! Names dropped:Tiny Hairs, Terri Kapsalis, Libby the cat, Christian Bök, Judd Morrissey, Relaxation Record, Jesse Seldess, Luc Tuymans, Leonie Weber, Ben Brown, Meg Nafziger, Jeff Kowalkowski, Michael Workman, NOVA, Lou Mallozzi, Björn Ross, Fessenden, Institute of Failure, Trent Smith, Petrova, Jen Bervin, Lilli Carré, Erin Tikovitch, Tony Rosati, The 6 Ghosts of Fear, Ginger Krebs, Erin Moore, Kenneth Goldsmith, Ken Fandell, Matthew Goulish, Justin Cooper, Christopher Lavery, Daniel Borzutzky, CJ Mitchell, Goat Island, James Rondeau, Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith, Open End Gallery, and last, but not least, Furries. NEXT WEEK: Barbara Koenen, fabulous overlord of the Chicago Artist Resource site, talks about how artists can make the most of what Chicago has to offer, and so much more.
