Ohio State might be making a habit of winning ugly, but it still covered the spread in Piscataway. The Buckeyes had their most competitive game ever against Rutgers this year but still came away with a 35-16 win, and we felt there was more good than bad to take away from Ohio State's performance – even if it wasn't the most prolific day for the Buckeyes' passing offense, run defense or special teams. We begin this week's episode by sharing all of our takeaways from the Buckeyes' performance against the Scarlet Knights. We follow that by making our predictions for this week's home night game against Michigan State, looking at the other games this weekend that could shake up the College Football Playoff race and breaking down what we saw from both Ohio State basketball teams in their season openers on Monday. The full rundown for this week's show: 1:25: Rutgers is better than usual, so it wasn't shocking the Buckeyes had to battle in Piscataway 3:29: TreVeyon Henderson further proves he's one of Ohio State's biggest game-changers 7:26: Ohio State's run blocking improves as Donovan Jackson has his best game of the year 9:27: Kyle McCord didn't play badly against Rutgers, he took what the defense gave him 16:04: Red-zone defense leads Buckeyes to victory 21:41: Ohio State's run defense shows vulnerability, but has time to improve before The Game 25:21: Ty Hamilton, Jermaine Mathews Jr., Malik Hartford among defenders who stepped up 30:22: Parker Fleming's seat heating up after latest special teams miscue 36:58: Ohio State should dominate Michigan State 41:24: Buckeyes can play it safe with injured players this week 43:05: This could be our best chance to see Tristan Gebbia and/or Lincoln Kienholz play this year 46:17: Score predictions for Ohio State vs. Michigan State 48:40: Michigan is in for a battle against Penn State in Happy Valley 51:07: We hope to see you at the Eleven Dubgate on Saturday 52:00: Georgia, Washington, Florida State and Oregon all face challenges this week 54:48: It's just one game, but Ohio State men's hoops has plenty to work on after Oakland battle 57:36: Roddy Gayle Jr., Zed Key and Scotty Middleton stood out in the season opener 1:03:05: Bruce Thornton didn't have his best game, but he rose to the occasion late 1:04:47: We'll learn more about Ohio State in a tough game Friday vs. Texas A&M 1:07:03: OSU women's hoops must work on rebounding, 3-point shooting after season-opening loss
Ohio State's defense keeps getting better. The Buckeyes had their most impressive defensive performance of the season yet as they held Penn State to just one touchdown and one third-down conversion in a 20-12 victory that was good for Ohio State's second top-10 win of the season. We begin this week's episode by discussing what impressed us most in Ohio State's win over the Nittany Lions – including another memorable performance by JT Tuimoloau, how Jordan Hancock and Jermaine Mathews Jr. stepped up in Denzel Burke's absence and Marvin Harrison Jr. making his case that he belongs in the Heisman Trophy conversation – as well as the one major concern that lingers after that game after the Buckeyes were held under two yards per carry for the second time in three weeks.Next, we look ahead to this week's game against Wisconsin and make our predictions for how the primetime road test will play out in what looks to be the Buckeyes' toughest remaining game until they play Michigan in their regular-season finale.Of course, we also had to talk about the week's biggest story in college sports as evidence continues to mount that Connor Stalions and the Wolverines used prohibited tactics to steal signs from opponents. Finally, we share our takeaways from the Ohio State men's basketball exhibition win over Dayton on Sunday. The full rundown for this week's show: 0:48: Ohio State's defense has been great all year, but it reached another level against Penn State 5:44: JT Tuimoloau continues his dominant October by outplaying a projected top-five NFL draft pick 7:26: Jordan Hancock, Jermaine Mathews Jr. show Ohio State has tremendous depth at cornerback 11:15: Should Hancock and Cody Simon replace Sonny Styles, Steele Chambers in starting lineup? 18:13: Marvin Harrison Jr. makes Penn State look foolish for trying to play man coverage against him 24:07: Cade Stover has become an elite receiver with a legitimate chance to win the Mackey Award 27:09: Ohio State's passing offense can still be elite, but its rushing offense remains a clear weakness 36:17: Wisconsin remains a team in transition that probably isn't ready to upset Ohio State 40:01: Running remains Wisconsin's strength, but a more balanced offense makes it tougher to defend 46:40: Another test for Ohio State's offense, but Wisconsin's defense hasn't been as good as usual 49:56: Tristan Gebbia likely becomes the next man up at quarterback with Devin Brown sidelined 54:37: Why we both expect the Buckeyes to cover the spread and beat Wisconsin 57:13: It seems unlikely that Jim Harbaugh didn't know about alleged sign-stealing scheme 1:01:06: The NCAA doesn't typically move fast enough for Michigan to be penalized this season 1:05:38: Michigan's wins might get an asterisk, but that doesn't give Ohio State a free pass for losses 1:13:30: It's just an exhibition, but OSU hoops (especially Bruce Thornton) was impressive vs. Dayton

Ohio State landed cornerback Davison Igbinosun from Ole Miss in the transfer portal on Tuesday. Not only does he fill a big need for the Buckeyes, but Igbinosun was the highest-rated player regardless of position remaining in the transfer portal. The Buckeyes have done a good job overall this season in the portal, as they also landed the top safety on the market in Ja'Had Carter from Syracuse, brought in a solid offensive lineman in Victor Cutler from Louisiana-Monroe, and solidified their depth at quarterback with Oregon State transfer Tristan Gebbia. Now that Igbinosun is in the fold, what does the depth chart look like for Ohio State at cornerback in 2023? Also, it's a huge day on the OSU beat as we will interview head coach Ryan Day and all of the assistant coaches this morning and into the early afternoon. What are we looking forward to hearing about the most? All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish as Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle. We now know which Ohio State players will be entering the 2023 NFL draft and which draft-eligible Buckeyes will be wearing scarlet and gray for another year.C.J. Stroud left us in suspense until Monday morning as to which camp he would be a part of, but he ultimately made the decision we expected all along when he opted to go pro. He now headlines a 2023 NFL draft class for Ohio State that includes three sure-fire first-round picks (Stroud, Paris Johnson Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba), three more projected early-round choices (Zach Harrison, Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler) and several others who also have a good chance of hearing their names called. That said, there were also numerous key Buckeyes who announced over the past week that they will remain at Ohio State for another year including offensive lineman Matt Jones, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg and safety Lathan Ransom, joining a group of returning draft-eligible Buckeyes that also includes Miyan Williams, Cade Stover and Steele Chambers, among others. We start this week's episode by talking about why Stroud made the only business decision that really made sense by entering the draft and our initial expectations for the Kyle McCord vs. Devin Brown battle that will now ensue to replace him as Ohio State's starting quarterback. After that, we take a look at Ohio State's 2023 NFL draft class as a whole and discuss the impact of Jones, Eichenberg and Ransom's returns. Later in the show, we discuss our expectations for Brian Hartline in his new role as Ohio State's offensive coordinator, how we'll remember Kevin Warren's three years as Big Ten commissioner and the outlook for Ohio State men's basketball after a four-game losing skid. The full rundown for this week's episode: 0:36: C.J. Stroud made the right decision by entering the 2023 NFL draft 4:10: There's no shortage of potential landing spots for Stroud high on the draft board 9:56: 75% of 11W readers expect Kyle McCord to win the starting job, but we expect a close battle 14:12: What Griffin learned from talking to McCord and Devin Brown before the Peach Bowl 15:20: How much of a factor will running ability be in the quarterback competition? 18:36: Tristan Gebbia's addition is a depth move that provides insurance for a possible future transfer 20:42: A look at the draft stock for each of Ohio State's 14 declared NFL draft prospects 30:42: Kamryn Babb is stepping away from football, but he'll always have a moment to remember 33:14: No official word from Tyler Friday, Josh Proctor and Palaie Gaoteote, but it looks unlikely they'll return 35:45: How many Buckeyes will be drafted this year? Setting the over/under at nine 36:45: Luke Wypler's decision to leave makes Matt Jones the most important returning draft-eligible Buckeye 41:00: It's good news Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers are returning, even though Ohio State needs to find a role for C.J. Hicks if he's ready 43:43: It's also good that Lathan Ransom is returning even though Sonny Styles and Kye Stokes are promising 46:05: Retention and recruiting two likely factors in Brian Hartline getting the OC nod over Justin Frye 49:44: No other staff changes appear imminent, though Larry Johnson and Parker Fleming are on expiring contracts 51:10: Should Ryan Day delegate playcalling duties to Hartline? There's arguments for both sides 52:20: Kevin Warren will be most remembered for the COVID year, but his impact on Big Ten will live on through USC and UCLA 55:36: Ohio State men's basketball has gone from a major Big Ten contender to an NCAA Tournament bubble team in just two weeks 59:28: It's not time to write this team off yet, but the Buckeyes need to start winning some close games 1:02:09: Ohio State isn't getting enough production from its transfers and its bench 1:04:26: Women's basketball now ranked second in the country, but two huge tests loom next week
THE Podcast Daily is back with a full roster and today Austin Ward, Bill Landis and Jeremy Birmingham are talking about the latest moves that Ohio State made on its roster as the Buckeyes added a new quarterback and saw the departure of one Kamryn Babb, one of the team's most inspirational players. This is THE Podcast Daily for Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023.
It is a short and sweet version of the show as we touch on many pertinent topics. Ohio State landed transfer quarterback Tristan Gebbia from Oregon State on Tuesday, which came out of the blue. What does this mean for the Buckeyes' QB room? Is Gebbia just a depth piece behind Kyle McCord and Devin Brown? Also, there are several intriguing players that didn't see a lot of action as true freshmen in 2022, but will need to step up in 2023. We're talking about guys like Sonny Styles, C.J. Hicks and many others. Furthermore, have you taken a look at OSU's 2023 schedule? It's rather interesting and difficult. Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle on the Wednesday 5ish to discuss all of that and more. -Frost has been one to not confirm many things to media until the very last moment…but this was said with 22 days to go until Nebraska's opening game of the season-In recent years, such a statement might have been held off until a few days before the game to limit the chances of a QB transferring (see: Tristan Gebbia in 2018), but maybe the thought is all the QBs are on the same page with this—and that's the hope that they continue to compete for the No. 2 job-You know that Thompson understands pressure from a fanbase as he comes from Texas…so nothing should really be new here for him-Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This episode is brought to you by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (until Ty tells me where I can find Blue Blood Brewing Company products in my area). In this episode, we talk about the departure of Patrick O’Brien from the Husker football team after he asked for and was granted a release from his scholarship. That really throws the QB picture into chaos as we had him pegged as the season-opening starter. So where does that leave the QB position and players like Tristan Gebbia, Adrian Martinez, and, dare we say, Noah Vedral? Also, plenty of talk this week on the receiving corps, what could be a bright spot for the Husker offense. Stanley Morgan returns and could easily be Nebraska’s first 1,000-yard receiver. But JD Spielman is a returning freshman All-American, and Tyjon Lindsey is a dynamic playmaker and both figure to be key pieces to the Nebraska offensive unit. And we’re trying to get Hoss a girlfriend, gosh darnit! So if you like long walks on the beach, a glass of moscato once a year, dogs, and a fella who can squat over 300 pounds, reach out via the social media access points below. Thanks to Tom and Jim’s Top 5 for recommending Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale. And to the good folks of Nebraska City for their contribution to trees and clean air and…arbor. Enjoy the show! Well, Husker fans got some news Thursday that may or may not have been expected. To Husker Nation: Thank You! pic.twitter.com/1MQYtpMusL — Tanner Lee (@TannerLee13_) December 28, 2017 Of course, that’s no longer news to you. But it did mean fodder for the conversation on this week’s episode of the Five Heart Podcast. What are Tanner’s chances of being drafted, and where does that leave the Huskers’ depth chart with Patrick O’Brien and Tristan Gebbia in Lincoln and now Adrian Martinez headed to the Great Cornhusker State. Also, what can former Husker player and new Offensive Line Coach Greg Austin do to rebuild the much-maligned offensive line, and how will he utilize the players at his disposal to put the best group together? There’s also some NFL talk as the League approaches the playoffs. And Greg goes on an anti-Patriots diatribe that should make most fans happy (assuming you aren’t a Patriots fan…but how can you be a Patriots fan and also have a soul?). And at the end, just before signing off…HUSKER WRESTLING MAKES AN APPEARANCE! Is it worth it to stick around for that blurb? Maybe not. But hey…it’s wrestling. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts! Wherein the Cuzes discuss the Big Ten Network's visit to Lincoln, this week's poll results on Tristan Gebbia, and go over the conference championships and playoff picks.
"All they recruit is wide receivers, how are you gonna run the daggum ball with so many receivers"? - Random Husker Fan Welp, now we better not lose anymore or you're gonna see Freedom lining up in the slot. That's the thing about wide receivers, they're a brittle bunch. Small bones, osteoporosis, etc, etc, etc... We started out with what seemed like 43 Wide receivers now we are down to 6 not counting Zack Darlington who might explode if he ever gets tackled again. We could really use Keyshawn Johnson Jr, Derrion Grimm, or dare I say it, Jamire Calvin right about now. On a happier note, Micah Parsons seems to remember us. So we definitely talk about that this episode. As well as Huskers in the NFL (we see you Burkhead), The rise of Tristan Gebbia and how we feel about the season as of right now. Has "Homer Tweedy" returned, will Pat be able to remember the high school's of all the new players, will Joe be able to remember anything (because he's a stoner)? You'll have to listen to find out! Hip Hip Hooray! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode, Mike and Joe Canale make their triumphant return! Alos we bring back Cobcast favorite, Anthony Canale and we introduce the soon-to-be-famous Valerie Canale! This episode is a shit show. Let's just be honest. Here's the thing about shit shows though it's always fun to watch the world burn. Ryan may or may not hate kids after this episode. The spring game in and of it's self is kinda boring but there are some good take aways like Tanner Lee, Patrick O'Brien, Tristan Gebbia, Luke Gifford, AND ALL THAT RECRUITING!!! Listen up and find out which wins out: The annoyance of Children or the excitement about Bookie. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Corn Nation recruiting expert Brian Towle joins Ryan and Pat to talk about the Huskers 2017 recruiting class and how it affects the 2018 cycle. He shares his thoughts on the class, as well as his expectations. On the table for discussion are Mike Riley, Bob Diaco, Jamire Calvin, Damion Daniels, Guy Thomas, Brenden Jaimes, Elijah Blades, Avery Roberts, Keyshawn Johnson, Tristan Gebbia, Jaylin Bradley, Kurt Rafdal, Austin Allen, Keith Williams and how much Iowa sucks. Also, figure out who each guy thinks is the best 90s boy band. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode the guys interview Corn Nation's Ryan Reuter about the hiring of Bob Diaco as defensive coordinator, the 3-4 scheme and what it means to Nebraska football, as well as recruiting and what he's looking forward to next season. Discussion includes which players possibly gain or lose chances a playing time as a result of the change, how the changes will affect defensive position coaches like John Parrella, Trent Bray and Donte Williams, and what some of the terms of the 3-4 are and mean. Get his opinion on the status of players like DaiShon Neal, Pernell Jefferson, Avery Roberts, Dedrick Young, Mick Stoltenberg, Carlos Davis, Khalil Davis, Marcus Newby and of course Dicaprio Bootle. Hoss also discusses the current state of the Nebraska offense and what the addition of Tanner Lee, Patrick O'Brien or Tristan Gebbia will mean schematically, as well as what details will change, if any. He also discusses the state of the Nebraska I-back and the value of Nebraskans in recruiting. Jump on board with Hoss! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Big Red Cobcast co-hosts Ryan Tweedy and Pat Janssen welcome in Maryland superfans Brian Cooperman and Stephen Saffarewich to the in-game podcast. And Pat and Ryan delight in watching them see the Terps get run over by the Huskers (and marvel at their lack of actual knowledge about DJ Durkin and crew). But it's in studio on Monday when things really pick up, as Iowa Hate Week officially kicks off. The guys get it started in style with Iowa jokes abound. The guys also discuss the injury situations regarding Ryker Fyfe and Tommy Armstrong, who might fill the void at quarterback on Saturday (Zack Darlington? Patrick O'Brien? Lamar Jackson? Matt Turman?), who might fill the void at quarterback next season (Tristan Gebbia? Any of the above?), Mike Riley's big balls, and the need for Nick Gates, Terrell Newby, and the Nebraska running game to establish itself against the Hawkeyes on Friday. Get ready for Thanksgiving and a Husker victory by listening to the Big Red Cobcast! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
