Susan has conducted scholarly research on behalf of the Defense Studies Department of the Canadian Armed Forces College in Toronto, Canada on the topic of UFOs, and for the The Koestler Parapsychology Unit at the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland regarding poltergeist activity. Susan's essay explores the subject of UFOs through the lens of parapsychology. Susan has actively investigated spook-lights in both Canada and her adopted home Italy, including in field work as an independent boots-on-the-ground UFO researcher. Over the last two decades her approach to the UFO subject has evolved from the nuts and bolts to more exotic and right brained thinking. Susan's first book Cosmic Witch was published in both English and Italian in August 2020. Susan has conducted a series of experiments based on and inspired by the work of the late mathematician, Dr A.R.G Owen and psychotherapist Dr. Joel Whitton popularly known as “The Philip Experiments” which will be the focus of her second book Cosmic Witch Vol. II Conjuring UFOs: UFOs, Social PSI, and Magic which will be available in late 2021 or early 2022. Susan lives in the Apennine Mountains near Bologna, Italy, with her husband, astrophysicist and electronic musician Massimo Teodorani, and their two cats Pixie and Merry. Her home studio faces a mountain peak that was in ancient times considered to be a holy place by both Pagans and early Christians. And it is there that the ultra-terrestrials inspire her witchcraft and her art. A special shop talk episode featuring a historical perspective of the UFO field with Gene and cohosts Curt Collins and Tim Swartz. Among the topics that will be discussed is the possibility that some UFOs — certainly not all sightings — might have resulted from flights (or crashes?) of test aircraft. And what about possible government mind control experiments involving some flying saucer contactees and abductees? Among other cases, Curt has taken a particular interest in the 1980 Cash-Landrum Texas UFO Encounter. After a career in retail management Curt began writing about UFOs, with a special interest in re-investigating that paradoxical case, from which the eyewitnesses evidently suffered from an assortment of injuries and illnesses. Curt has written entries for such books as "American Myths, Legends, and Tall Tales: An Encyclopedia of American Folklore," "UFOs: Reframing the Debate," and "What's Wrong with this Picture," examining the “Roswell Slides” fiasco.

On this episode of Radio Wasteland, we welcome Author Joshua Cutchin. We talk about THIEVES IN THE NIGHT: A Brief History of Supernatural Child Abductions. "Folklore has always warned of hidden dangers lurking in the shadows, otherworldly beings who seek to steal that which parents hold most dear. In the first book dedicated solely to the subject, Joshua Cutchin traces this primal concern from antiquity to the modern era—beginning with worldwide tales of faeries, changelings, spirits, demons, and monsters, before examining more contemporary phenomena such as Sasquatch kidnappings, alien abductions, and mysterious disappearances in national parks. Folklore, medicine, science, and spirituality come together for a uniquely scholarly perspective on the thieves in the night." JOSHUA CUTCHIN has appeared on a wide variety of paranormal programs discussing his work, including Coast to Coast AM, Mysterious Universe, Binnall of America, Expanded Perspectives, Radio Misterioso, and the Gralien Report. He is the author of four books: 2015's "A Trojan Feast: The Food and Drink Offerings of Aliens, Faeries, and Sasquatch" (translated into Spanish as "Banquete Troyano"); 2016's "The Brimstone Deceit: An In-Depth Examination of Supernatural Scents, Otherworldly Odors, & Monstrous Miasmas"; 2018's "Thieves in the Night: A Brief History of Supernatural Child Abductions"; and 2020's "Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, Volume I: Folklore," with Timothy Renner. Our forests seem to be hiding something much more complex than an undiscovered gorilla. Bigfoot may be howling from a lonely mountaintop, but the bigfoot phenomenon is whispering secrets... if we will only listen. Eyewitnesses, investigators, and cryptozoologists worldwide contend ample evidence exists supporting the survival of large, hairy, apelike creatures alongside mankind today, lurking in the wilderness. By all appearances, these beings seem wholly natural, interacting with their surroundings and leaving behind hair, blood, droppings, and, of course, footprints. Yet despite their apparently physical nature, bigfoot and its hairy hominid kin consistently appear mired in High Strangeness—the peculiar, ineffable, and nonsensical absurdities so often encountered in paranormal phenomena. Some sightings seem more consistent with mythology than biology. Bigfoot often present supernatual attributes, like luminescent eyes or the ability to pass, ghostlike, through structures. Anomalous lights are regulalry seen in areas of frequent sasquatch activity. Footprints persistently, if rarely, display odd numbered toes, and—most bafflingly—bigfoot trackways suddenly terminate in the middle of open, untouched terrain. In Volume 1 of Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, authors Joshua Cutchin and Timothy Renner carefully examine not only the intersection of hairy apemen with global folklore—of poltergeists, faeries, extraterrestrials, magic, witches, ghosts, and archetypal women-in-white—but also question the fundamental assumptions underlying contemporary cryptozoological beliefs surrounding bigfoot. He holds a Masters in Music Literature and a Masters in Journalism from the University of Georgia, and currently resides in Roswell, Georgia. He is the author of three books: 2015's "A Trojan Feast: The Food and Drink Offerings of Aliens, Faeries, and Sasquatch" (translated into Spanish as "Banquete Troyano"); 2016's "The Brimstone Deceit: An In-Depth Examination of Supernatural Scents, Otherworldly Odors, & Monstrous Miasmas"; and 2018's "Thieves in the Night: A Brief History of Supernatural Child Abductions." All are published by Anomalist Books. Joshua is also a contributor to Robbie Graham's 2017 collection of ufological essays "UFOs: Reframing the Debate," as well as David Weatherly's 2018 Sasquatch collection "Wood Knocks: Vol. 3." Cutchin is also a published composer and maintains an active performing schedule as a jazz and rock tuba player, having appeared on eight albums and live concert DVDs. Joshua has appeared on a variety of paranormal programs discussing his work, including Coast to Coast AM, Mysterious Universe, Binnall of America, and The Gralien Report. He can be heard on the weekly podcast Where Did the Road Go? and maintains an online presence at JoshuaCutchin.com. Timothy Renner: Is an illustrator, author, and folk musician living in Pennsylvania. His illustrations have appeared in the pages of various books, magazines, fanzines and comics as well as on many record and CD covers. Since 1995, Timothy has been making music both solo and with his band, Stone Breath. Timothy is the creator of "Strange Familiars", a podcast concerning the paranormal, weird history, folklore and the occult. He makes regular appearances on the paranormal radio show, "Where Did the Road Go?",

On episode 54 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, Ryan shares his essay that was featured in the recently released book, UFOs: Reframing the Debate. The book, comprised and edited by Robbie Graham, features over a dozen authors from around the world who have contributed their thoughts, theories, and approaches to studying the UFO phenomenon.  The essay, titled, "Frankenstein and Flying Saucers: Creating, Destroying, and Re-animating a Phenomenal Monster," draws parallels between the universally praised story of Frankenstein's monster and the ever-evolving, devolving, and monstrous phenomena and study of UFOs.  As you'll hear in the essay, Ryan draws from the work of theorists and researchers including Carl Jung, Jacques Vallée, Jenny Randles, David Clarke, and Greg Bishop. It considers the enduring appeal of the UFO in modern culture, ufology’s long (and perhaps futile) struggle for legitimacy, and the questionable inclination of so many UFO researchers to label the phenomenon as “extraterrestrial.” Ryan does not discount the possibility of otherworldly visitation, but he ushers the reader gently down other avenues of inquiry and suggests we may sooner come to grips with the nature of the UFO phenomenon by seeking to unravel the complexities of human cognition and our own perceptual apparatus. Special thanks to Robbie Graham and White Crow Books for allowing Ryan to share the essay in its entirety.
