Yvonne Strahovski says it herself. “She's hateable.” Serena's run throughout The Handmaid's Tale is absolutely littered with questionable and, in some cases, heinous decisions. But, this is the power of a force like Strahovski. Sometimes, in between terrible choices, Serena will get an opportunity to turn to the light, and even after everything she's done, you can't help but hope she finally reaches out, takes the lifeline, and forges a better path forward. However, time and time again, she back pedals and becomes consumed by self-righteousness, often at others' expense, and Season 6 is no different. At the top of the Emmy-winning series' sixth and final season, Serena was close to finding a way out. She winds up on a train to Alaska with June (Elisabeth Moss) where she can get a fresh start with Noah. However, old habits die hard and her behavior ultimately exposes her identity and turns the train passengers into an angry mob. Thanks to June, she manages to escape the riot, but rather than continue her pursuit of a new path forward, she returns to Gilead to settle in Commander Lawrence's (Bradley Whitford) New Bethlehem. While she's promised things will be different there, it quickly becomes clear that that's not the case, something Serena's own leadership tactics perpetuate. With The Handmaid's Tale nearing its big finish, Strahovski returned to Collider Ladies Night to dig into some of Serena's biggest moments in this final go-around, and to reflect on her experience tackling the character for six seasons. Strahovski co-stars as Serena Joy Waterford - an architect and prisoner of the show's dystopian regime. She says it's been an 'extraordinary' journey taking on the role of Serena. There's nothing Hollywood loves more than putting people in boxes. Comedy or drama. Actor or director. But with the fall of the old studio system and the rise of the indie, we're seeing more blurred lines than ever before. Everywhere you look today you can find genre blends and multi-hyphenates in every aspect of the industry, and our next guest is no exception. The oh so lovely Yvonne Strahovski garnered critical acclaim for her role as Serena Joy Waterford in Hulu's Emmy and Golden Globe winning original series, THE HANDMAID'S TALE, for which she has netted an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress,a Golden Globe nomination, and two Screen Actors Guild nominations. The series is releasing its sixth and final season tonight, April 8. Yvonne recently starred/executive produced Peacock's horror series, TEACUP. She also made her directorial debut with VLOG, a short film for which she also wrote and stars in. Her husband, Tim Loden served as a producer and her two sons acted alongside her. The film was shot in their home and took place when she was pregnant with her third child, which made it an almost part-documentary, part-narrative film. Up next, Yvonne will star and produce an adaptation of the bestselling novel, A WOMEN OF INTELLIGENCE. During our chat, we talk about making art from scratch, the importance of being a good judge of character, and the very real fear that comes with turning down a job. xx Enjoy!
Emmy-nominated actress Yvonne Strahovski first turned heads as a CIA agent in the popular NBC series Chuck, followed by a role in another hit show, Dexter, and, of course, as Serena Joy Waterford in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale. Yvonne joins Sophia to chat about the final season of The Handmaid's Tale, including how she feels about the show coming to an end, the scenes that made her feel uncomfortable, how significant and relevant the show is in the current political space, and how she would love to dive into a comedy next! Plus, she talks about juggling her globe-trotting career with motherhood, what she was like as a child, and starring and executive-producing her new horror series, Teacup, on Peacock! This week's movie feature is the A24 film, Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East. You can also hear about the first two episodes of the Peacock show, Teacup, which stars Scott Speedman and Yvonne Strahovski. It's based off the novel Stinger by Robert R. McCammon, but it seems pretty different from the book...so far. You can also hear about Superman & Lois and the big brawl between Clark and Lex Luthor, along with the penultimate episode of The Penguin and the latest comic books. 00:00:00 - 00:16:31 Intro & News 00:16:31 - 00:42:11 Comics 00:42:11 - 01:20:18 Superman & Lois E406 01:20:18 - 0148:56: The Penguin E107 01:48:56 - 02:23:46 Teacup E101-102 02:23:46 - 02:36:13 Heretic 02:36:13 - 02:40:26 Outro You can support the show at Patreon.com/GManFromHeck (and get access to the weekly bonus podcast) or at ko-fi.com/GManFromHeck.
Teacup is Peacock's latest dive into horror, brought to life by producer James Wan. The show stars Yvonne Strahovski as Maggie, a veterinarian whose quiet life in rural Georgia takes a hard left into when her son is lost in the forest only to return gibberish and trying to stab her. Also, there are people crossing invisible barriers and getting turned inside out like a poorly made burrito. And a weirdo in a gas mask that you probably saw on the cover. In this podcast, we break down the premiere and compare it to the book. Join us and Welcome to Today's Episode!
In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our TV and streaming podcast host Mike DeAngelo makes sure not to step over "the line" while discussing “Teacup.” The Peacock series follows a group of neighbors that must put aside their differences and unite in the face of a mysterious and deadly threat. The horrific mystery series stars Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Rob Morgan, Chaske Spencer, Boris McGiver, and more. Strahovski talked about loving the multiple-genre approach, but there was a key element at the center of it that drew her to “Teacup” specifically. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

The Handmaid's Tale - 502. Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford. Image by Hulu. Copyright 2022. Whatever concerns Paul had about June's listlessness in the season opener were put to rest in this episode. Although she still had her moments of instability, such as her lashing out at Rita, my doubts were assuaged once Serena Joy gave June something to focus on: Hannah. Hannah and particularly Serena Joy's proximity to her. Now that we know that next season, the 6th, will be the show's final, we can start to look for what an endgame might look like. “The Handmaid's Tale” star Yvonne Strahovski joins Katie Lowes to chat about the pregnancies and labors of her two boys, work-life balance, and her thoughts on Roe v. Wade. Yvonne describes the moments when she found out she was pregnant, and how her first labor was different from her first. She also went into detail about how the transition was for her to go from having one child to two, and how she was able to juggle responsibilities while filming on set. Plus, speaking of “The Handmaid's Tale,” what was Yvonne's reaction when she heard about Roe v. Wade? Listen in for the answer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Yvonne Strahovski is the Emmy-nominated, SAG Award-nominated and Golden-Globe-nominated actress whose voice you may recognize as the stoic Serena Joy Waterford from The Handmaid's Tale. She is the mother of a toddler and newborn, with starkly different birth stories to share. During Yvonne's first pregnancy, she felt an intuitive pull toward birthing at home, but suppressed her inner voice in favor of the rational, which warned Yvonne that she lived too far from the hospital in the event of a possible transfer. Choosing not to explore it further, Yvonne had her first baby in the hospital. Despite having an obstetrician she deeply trusted, she felt her birthing body start to shut down as soon as she arrived to the unfamiliar setting and found herself surrounded by numerous "strangers" - e.g. hospital staff. Yvonne began her second pregnancy sensing some PTSD from her first birth, and this time allowed her inner voice to grow louder. Yvonne shares her story of consuming a series of inspiring home-birth stories on Down to Birth Show and other platforms, until finally she said, "If all these women can do it, why can't I?" Yvonne's second son was born at home in December 2021, with her husband, midwives and doula present, along with some of her closest friends and even her obstetrician, who served as a back-up attendant. Yvonne shares how her fear was never completely eradicated before going into her second labor, and said her supportive team and HypnoBirthing - which she had once assumed was best-suited for those with an inclination toward yoga and meditation - were what kept her erring on the side of grounded and calm through pregnancy and birth rather than fearful.Yvonne commented on the irony of playing Serena Waterford in the world of Gilead during these formative years as a new mother, and is certain she'll have more to say when she can speak freely after the next season drops. Even though Yvonne is typically very private, she felt compelled to join us as a way to pay forward an inspiring story that might reach those with their own inner voices about pursuing home birth. * * * * * * * * * *Connect with us on Instagram @DownToBirthShow. Chris Pratt plays Dan Forester, a family man who is drafted to fight in a war against an alien species 30-years in the future. He leads a ragtag team of non-character characters through several overly familiar cliche situations. The film borrows elements from a lot of big-hitter movies. The aliens make a staccato, clicking sound, reminiscent of "Predator." The reveal that the aliens have been here all along concept from "War of the Worlds" and "The Thing." The heavily-influenced "Alien" scene of the last 30-minutes. Pratt sells his ex-military career just fine, recalling his earlier role in "Zero Dark Thirty," but doesn't quite feel right as a nerdy, high school biology teacher. When Pratt is left alone to wise-crack in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" universe, he's magnetic; but when he's the straight man, it's bland and dull. With COVID shutting down cinemas and forcing major Hollywood films to push back their theatrical date later and later, some companies decided to release their movies on VOD platforms. Others actually gave up on the theatrical release and instead sold their films to other companies. Paramount which had numerous films ready to go, decided to sell off some of their movies, one was the big budget science fiction film THE TOMORROW WAR (2021) starring Chris Pratt. Amazon bought it for a reported $200M USD and released it to their platform on July 2nd, 2021. Family man and biology teacher Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) is suddenly drafted into a new world militia after soldiers from the future arrive to warn of a future alien invasion. With a group of non-soldiers, he is transported into the future where he finds that humanity has been decimated by a white invading monster named the Whitespikes. Though edging just at the outskirts of a true horror film, the movie is more a big budget blockbuster in the mode of JURASSIC WORLD (2015) or SAN ANDREAS (2015). Besides Chris Pratt, the film's cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, J.K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, among others. Chris McKay, known for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (2017), directs from a screenplay by Zach Dean. Dark Discussions takes a look at this spectacle film and gives their thoughts.

Alisha questions if she likes Elisabeth Moss' character June Osborne. They theorize how the season will end & question if the real world is starting to turn into the plot of Margaret Atwood's infamous book the series is based on.
We have just watched episode 5 of season 3 of The Handmaid's Tale, which is called Unknown Caller: June and Serena grapple with the revelation that Luke is caring for Nichole in Canada, leading to an incident that will have far-reaching ramifications. This episode challenges our opinions about Serena Joy, and we have very different reactions. This is a very big episode with big feelings, and especially for Yvonne Strahovski, who features in an interview about the events of this episode, and what it is like playing Serena Joy in all of her complex glory.
