Listen to today's podcast... Smoking is no longer glamourous.  Most people understand the link to major health issues. Though smoking has lost its ‘public' appeal, it is still a major issue and addiction within our families and workplaces. Smoking cessation is the focus of many workplace wellness programs because nicotine addiction has a negative impact on absenteeism, productivity and benefits usage.  Wouldn't it be great, if we could prevent the up-and-coming generations from having to face the ‘futility' of quitting, of being a ‘slave' to their addiction, or experiencing the devastating impact of their ‘habit'. Some people wrongly believe that if we continue to raise the price, add more tax or put more disgusting pictures on the packages, that people will stop smoking and choose to live a healthier life. However, being addicted to something, means that logic is skewed, and the addiction can always be justified or at least continued to exist So, I go back to my original statement…we have come a long way…but the key to our success is to continue to convince the younger generation that it isn't worth it.  Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!      Today is Weedless Wednesday.   From Inmate to Innovator: A Story of Prison Reform, Redemption & Advocacy Chris Martin, a former semi-pro baseball player from Virginia who was raised in Kansas, not only infuses for a living but also to keep on living, due to his struggle with Chron's disease. As the founder of Hempful Farms, Martin is a dedicated family man with five children, including three grown kids, who is determined to end Prohibition by promoting the healing power of hemp to the world. As a 26-year chef, Martin has owned and operated ten restaurants, four of which he co-owned. In 2009, he founded Zonka Bars but encountered legal issues due to unclear medical marijuana laws. This prompted him to shift his focus from product-only to opening a sit-down restaurant. Martin's exceptional culinary skills and diagnosis of Chron's disease inspired him to establish Hempful Farms Cafe in 2014, with the goal of introducing more people to the healing potential of cannabinoid-infused food. Due to Martin's imprisonment, his family was forced to close the cafe and relocate the Hempful Farms production facility and retail store to north Phoenix in 2017. Quickly becoming one of the most prominent producers and processors of hemp-derived CBD, Martin currently offers over 50 items and has established multiple brands, including Weedless, Paw Puddy, and OG Zonka Farms. With an incredible history of so many obstacles and barriers, along with a stint in prison - Chris has been on a mission to kick up the conversation regarding prison reform to higher, more practical, conversations centered around the lack of training programs for inmates as they are released, and in many occasions, because of the lack of skills to re-enter society in a productive manner. We are honored to highlight The Chris Martin Story and discuss how industries & business sectors, including the automotive industry, need to take a closer look at giving opportunities to inmates that are being released with an effective training program and productive future for all sides of the table.  Conversations on Criminal Justice As an added bonus political consultant Brian Fox of AZ Valley Consulting stops by the studio to discuss the upcoming panel discussion for an in-depth look at how homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health are criminalized, policed, and handled within Arizona's correctional and re-entry systems of to which many legislators will be in house to discuss solutions. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of bass fishing for Noobs! On tonight's show, we welcome back Tyler Thiede from Small Craft Fisherman. Tyler came on the show about a year ago and gave us noobs a lesson on frog fishing. Well, he's back for more and tonight we are talking about his favorite technique, the spinnerbait! The spinnerbait is a very versatile technique because it can be fished in different parts of the water column, and catches fish in different water temps. Together, Tyle and Sean go through everything you need to know to be successful with a spinnerbait, from rod and reel selection, line choice, and colors. We cover blade choices, describing the differences between willow, colorado, and indiana blades, and when to choose each one. Tyler also describes where he targets his casts and techniques for the retrieval of spinnerbaits as well. So as the fall bite really kicks into high gear, be sure to tune in to a one stop shop for all the info you'll need to throw one of the best baits for ripping lips in the fall, the spinnerbait, all on this episode of bass fishing for noobs here on the Paddle N Fin podcast! A shrimp is the most common bait for saltwater fishing ever created. So it's no surprise that a shrimp lure is one of the best lures to catch fish. But one of the problems is that most of the shrimp lures come pre-rigged (not good) which can make them tough to go weedless (which is ideal because fish hold tight to structure). So listen in as we share what we believe is the best shrimp lure rig ever made. Tight lines and enjoy.

Not only does it attract bites from almost everything from grouper to snapper to sheepshead to snook to redfish, but when rigged correctly, it stays completely weedless and lets you fish area with structure with far fewer snags. This is definitely one of the best (and easiest) ways to get yourself and your friends on a bunch of fish fast. Enjoy and tight lines!

Smoking is no longer glamourous.  Most people understand the link to major health issues. Though smoking has lost its ‘public’ appeal, it is still a major issue and addiction within our families and workplaces. Smoking cessation is the focus of many workplace wellness programs because nicotine addiction has a negative impact on absenteeism, productivity and benefits usage.  Wouldn’t it be great, if we could prevent the up and coming generations from having to face the ‘futility’ of quitting, of being a ‘slave’ to their addiction, or experiencing the devastating impact of their ‘habit’. Some people wrongly believe that if we continue to raise the price, add more tax or put more disgusting pictures on the packages, that people will stop smoking and choose to live a healthier life. However, being addicted to something, means that logic is skewed, and the addiction can always be justified or at least continued to exist So, I go back to my original statement…we have come a long way…but the key to our success is to continue to convince the younger generation that it isn’t worth it.  Today is Weedless Wednesday. I have never been a fan of the standard "rubber worm" style weedless ballyhoo bait because the hook is not exposed and fish tend to spit this rigged ballyhoo 9 out of every 10 bites. So over the years I have learned how to adapt to the conditions by modifying my ballyhoo terminal tackle and set up my boat to keep my baits weedless(to the best of my ability) Tools: Ball Bearing Swivel-75 Pound Ball Bearing Swivels by Diamond Leader Wire#7 Single Strand Wire Hooks-Mustad Tarpon Hooks(7766-DT)-Sizes 7, 8 or 9-Select to the hook size to match the ballyhoo you are using. Lure-SeaWitch Construct the Leader: Haywire-Twist a 12 inch length of No. 7 single-strand wire to a  *Mustad Tarpon Hook *These hooks have slight curve towards the hooks eye, they catch less weed than the standard Mustad 3407-DT hook. These hooks are similar in style to the Southern Tuna Hook. Connect to the mainline via *75# Ball Bearing Swivel by Diamond. *It is absolutely essential that you run a high quality ball bearing swivel when trolling short wire leaders. This will prevent the wire from twisting over the coarse of the day. Learn from my mistakes. Rig a the ballyhoo. Laying the wire rig alongside the bait, now visualize where the hook will protrude, then thread the ballyhoo onto the hook. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytNJ0VY7mxM&t=2s Why a Short Wire Leader? Long leaders create drag in water resulting in your lures digging into the grass Stealth as during the Summer Months, I will connect to large Marlin, big Tunas and Wahoo while fishing offshore. A short wire trace leader keeps my clients connected to large big game fish Short Wire Rig Ballyhoo Leaders make an awesome skipping ballyhoo rig. Not only will this ballyhoo rig catch weeds, but it also runs nicely and my hookup percentage is high compared to the standard ballyhoo weedless rigs.  My wire rigs actually get me more bites than  monofilament or fluorocarbon leader rigs. Learn more by listening this podcast. I reveal secrets and tips in the podcast. The Ever Curious Gardener: Using a Little Natural Science for a Much Better Garden (https://amzn.to/2PZ1k5m) I grew up on Long Island, just got back from New York, but IDK if I have ever been there. I talked at a guy Aiden who is a manager at Young’s Farm and Larry Tse who runs a farm for Dig Inn which is also in the Hudson Valley. It is July 11, 2018 and I have a guest who’s books have been recommended a number of times on the show. Tell us a little about yourself. I did not grow up in agriculture a long time ago I was in college and grad school in Chemistry, then i dropped out of grad school in Chemistry and I moved to Vermont for a year to figure out what I was gonna do and I got really into reading about gardening. After a year of not doing much in VT I went to grad school in Ag at the U Wisconsin.  I dove into gardening intensively, I was learning a lot, because I didn’t know anything! I was learning a lot about soil science especially, because that’s what I was in grad school in and after few years I got a degree in horticulture too. Still gardening crazily. access to a good agriculture library so I would read everything I could find besides doing it. I worked for the Soil Conservation Services which is now called the Natural Resource Conservation. Went back to school and got my Doctorate in Horticulture with a specialty in fruit crops. I worked for Cornell for a while, when that job ended I went off on my own lecturing and writing and consulting. The whole time I did garden like a maniac, I still do, it hasn’t lost  it’s appeal. I still love it! One other addition when I moved to NY to work for Cornell so I planted 3/4 acre fruit trees The Farmden field another 2 acres south of my property. A little over 2 acres. Instead of planting 2 of each fruit tree I planted 20 so I could study them more. I renamed it a farmden, more then a garden a little less then a farm! Tell me about your first gardening experience was that in Grad school? When I was very very young we had a house just north of NYC We had a house with a small vegetable garden, it was planted by the swing set. I wasn’t that into the garden, I liked eating from the garden. I remember my father giving me this shovel and said, turn over the soil here. It was taller then me, I remember trying to put the shovel in the ground, it was like a rock, it was a stiff clay soil.  It’s tough when you have that kind of soil, Mike was just telling me the other day don’t dig there, don’t you see all those rocks.  (https://amzn.to/2MLEYXe) (https://amzn.to/2MLEYXe) a bold title the publisher made up, I always say it’s not Weedless, it’s Weed Less gardening, the main theme, that I practiced is  no till My garden soil has not been dug for many years partially studying soil science goes back to trying to shovel in the ground when I was a little kid.  You did all this school, started writing, gardening the whole time, so I guess one big questions I have is that at school you don’t always learn the organic way, and how did you learn the No-Till thing? Not in school, as a matter of fact, it was kind of mentioned disparagingly,  if at all… definitely didn’t each organic sort of learning basic soil science basic soil science isn’t organic or not organic, it’s just basic soil science and can be applied organically or not organically but I used it from the organic perspective Now most of the land grant colleges have come around to noting the benefits of organic guarding learning the basics. I like to learn from books and trying things out in the field. I was trying things out reading a lot and gardening a lot I feel lucky to have that opportunity to have access to all that literature and have a garden.  classroom access to have a classroom could not live anywhere Support this podcast

And it's hard not too since he's in just about every magazine I read. I'm referring to author, professor, and horticulturist Lee Reich, Ph.D. He's all about the art and science of building the garden from the ground up, with an emphasis on organic gardening, compost and healthy soil. He's my kind of guy and I thought it was time we got together for a podcast conversation about some of those very issues, along with one that has me most intrigued. Lee wrote a book about the weedless garden, and I just had to learn more. This podcast covers that topic as we meet and learn more about the man who's writing the articles we read so often.
