Out the gate we're talking about the rising cost of rent in New York City and how it's becoming increasingly difficult for young people to afford living there. We share the story of Sophia Cilentano, a 21-year-old intern who found it cheaper to fly from South Carolina to New York for work than to rent an apartment in the city. It's a shocking example of just how expensive living in New York has become.Next up we discuss the challenges of pursuing a career in the arts, particularly acting. Lulu shares her experience of auditioning in New York while working full-time at Disney and how she used all her personal days to fly up and audition. We also talk about the University of Wisconsin-Madison's job opening for a cheese taste tester, which is a quirky and fun alternative to traditional careers. And finally, we encourage our listeners to do something nice for someone today and experience the joy of making others happy. It's a simple yet powerful message that we hope will inspire our audience to spread kindness wherever they go.Read more:https://www.payscale.com/cost-of-living-calculator/New-York-New-Yorkhttps://www.fox5ny.com/news/intern-goes-viral-for-commuting-from-south-carolina-to-new-jersey-because-its-cheaper-than-renthttps://www.zumper.com/rent-research/new-york-nyhttps://www.mentalfloss.com/posts/university-of-wisconsin-madison-hiring-cheese-taste-tester-dream-jobSupport the show FOLLOW US: Facebook Instagram Youtube Twitter Pinterest Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Send us your stories & support the show:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thedailyhappy

People always ask us what it's like to do our job. We get it. It's a weird way to pay the mortgage. Our version of a business seminar is when we get to sit down with other creators and share our non-traditional job experiences. That's why we were excited to swap stories with fellow creators Kristin Hensley & Jen Smedley from #IMOMSOHARD on this week's podcast. We guarantee these ladies will make you laugh, as we did PLENTY of times in this interview. You can find Kristin and Jen on the #IMOMSOHARD: Getaway Tour at www.imomsohard.com. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie). The Holderness Family Podcast is Edited and Engineered by Max Trujillo of Trujillo Media.

There are your standard issue questions in that manager's office (or NOW with Zoom video). You know these. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years," or "why should we hire you?" Fine. Got those. But what about the oddball questions? Spoiler Alert: Most of those strange questions have no right or wrong answer. Lucky us. I'll give my answers to three of these really-way-out-there ones. "Do you believe in Bigfoot?" I believe in the legend and the marketing of the Big Foot brand. Name and brand awareness are vital to any successful person or business. Mr. Foot checks both of those boxes. "Are you more of a hunter or gatherer?" I'm not refusing to make this choice, but the reality is today that one should do both. I know people actually "lean" more towards one than the other, so, personally, I would choose "hunter," then "mentoring" after the fact on how to gather for the good of the team. "What was the last gift you gave someone?" Gift card. But understand this is not the easy way out. Hopefully, I would know this person well enough to understand which products or services are most important to the gift receiver, and give specifically based on that. (Easy for me to say, right? Since I did not have the face-to-face experience.) But WAIT, there's more! I have enlisted a couple of friends in the media industry to help me do a deeper dive into the World of The Weird Questions. Creative? Or just stupid? You decide.
