Today's meditation comes from The Book Of Isaiah in The Old Testament and from the writings of Julian of Norwich, with music by Wes Taylor.Passage: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you” says the Lord. —Isaiah 42:14Perspective: God showed me this truth in all things, saying, “It is I. I am the power and the Goodness of the Father, I am the Wisdom of the Mother, I am the Light and the Grace which is blessed love, I am the Trinity, I am the Unity, I am the supreme Goodness of all kind of things, I am the One who makes you love, I am the One who makes you desire, I am the never-ending fulfilment of all true desires." …It is thus logical that God, being our Father, be also our Mother. ―Julian of NorwichMusic: “Ode To Mothers” by Wes TaylorNarrator: Ryan Phipps

My heart filled up like a pinata when I sat down for this chat. Alex Wyse is a good friend, and sure, we love him for his theatre performances in shows such as off-Broadway's "Triassic Parq" and Broadway shows such as "Lysistrata Jones" and Deaf West's revival of "Spring Awakening" but I bet you'd never guess that his grandmother was responsible for some of today's most popular advertising slogans? We are all hip to the fact that Alex and Wes Taylor co-created and star in the ground-breaking, Emmy nominated comedy called "The Indoor Boys" but did you know that Andrew Kober was the Mr. Bumble to his Oliver back in Ohio??? How hilarious is that?!?! Not only is he an amazing writer, actor, and Tony nominated producer, he is a tremendous musician and singer and you can even here Alex sing my song "Right Here" from my album I COULD USE A DRINK! One thing I know for sure is that Alex is a multi-hyphenate bad ass who never stops! So tune in and turn it the hell up, Alex Wyse is in the house! Keep up with everything he has going on by following him on Twitter @alexwyse and Instagram @alexjwyse HEY, while you’re at it, don't be afraid to RATE AND SUBSCRIBE! “I don't feel good about myself in the day unless I'm making something.” This inspiring and hysterical episode is just two gay, Jewish boys kibbitzing about our trajectories in the theatre while breaking down stereotypes and expectations. If you're a fan of the hit web series Indoor Boys, breaking heteronormitve barriers, selling projects, and… The Hindenburg… then this episode is for you. Alex Wyse is an accomplished actor in tv/film and Broadway who not only performs, but his hyphens also include writer, director, and producer. From his earliest memories of being an aspiring child magician, he realized he too can also write a song, write plays, and create. After a college experience that was less than favorable, he began to write on his own work out of necessity. Like many multi-hyphenates, Alex also ran into the statement many people tell us - which is, “You have to pick one thing.” Together, Michael and Alex break down the idea of why picking one art form is outdated and, quite frankly, not helpful. The world today is more receptive to the multi-hyphenate than ever before, but people do still believe artists have to be stuck in the binary. How can your art defy genre and expectations? Alex and writing/directing partner Wes Taylor have also struck gold. Together, they wrote an Emmy Nominated character in their webseries Indoor Boys, which Michael produced. Telling stories that influence change, no matter how big or small, is what Alex is about. Through whatever his hyphen, Alex wants to give space to people to tell the stories they are meant to tell. This episode was recorded on the day a straight actor was nominated for a Golden Globe for portraying a gay man, which infuriates Alex and goes against what Alex stands for. Alex says, “The way I can be a social advocate is through my writing.” Alex Wyse is an actor, writer, director, and producer. He co-created the digital series “Indoor Boys,” which was nominated for an Emmy Award, won twelve Indie Series Awards, and was acquired by Here TV. He has been seen on Broadway in Waitress, Spring Awakening, Lysistrata Jones, on Tour in Wicked, off Broadway in Ride the Cyclone, Bare, and Triassic Parq, and regionally at Hartford Stage, Deaf West, Paper Mill Playhouse, Cleveland Play House, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Huntington Theatre Company, and more. He's been seen on TV in “Iron Fist,” “Masters of Sex,” “NCIS: LA,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Modern Family,” “Agent X,” “Bad Judge,” “A to Z,” “Switched at Birth,” and “Bored to Death,” and on film in X/Y and Dating My Mother. He co-produced What the Constitution Means to Me on Broadway and on Tour. BFA: Boston University. In the segment You Got A Question? Michael features a question from Heather A., who asks if her daughter should go to college for theatre and what is the difference between a BA and a BFA? This is one of my most joyful episodes of this show thus far! I've longed to capture the vibe shared between my mentor and friend, Dr. T and I. Wherever we go together we are loud. Period. Dr. T is the main reason I decided to go to grad school and use books to curse out wypipo while on the clock. We’ve been making history together ever since our first meeting where she prepared me to "transcend" above and beyond all things cosmetic "diversity and inclusion." I selected Dr. T as one of the star guest for 1708 Gallery's Inlight 2020 Exhibition, becuz she's both a big part of Everyday Black Matter film and constructing the theories I'm building expertise on in my Blackademic writing...listen to hear more on this. This episode is about love and the importance of holding space to just be with those who inspire you, who see you clearly, and who always have something to say that makes you show up at work the next day wit just a bit more step in your walk. I am so greatful for this Black woman. Honestly, truly pour a cup of whatever you're sipping on these days and get into this vibe. It's an episode for the gurls, the Aunty's, and Black Mama's too. “The Cost of Art” premiered on February 27, 2012, and was the first episode in the series NOT written and directed by show creator Theresa Rebeck and Michael Mayer. The episode was written by David Marshall Grant, and directed by Michael Morris. At premiere, the episode was viewed live by 6.6 million, but including DVR recording, was viewed by a total of 9.05 million viewers. There was a lot of music in this episode: Two original songs (History is Made at Night and I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl), two snippets of original songs (20th Century Fox Mambo from last ep, and preview of Let’s Be Bad from the next episode), and two covers (Buble’s Haven't Met you Yet and Adele’s Rumor Has It). The workshop of Bombshell has begun! Michael Swift is in, Julia is avoiding Ellis, and all seems right in the world. We also meet two icons of the Smash Universe. Linda, America's Favorite Stage Manager, played by Ann Harada, and Bobby, the snarky chorus boy everyone loves to loves, played by Wes Taylor. Ivy enters the rehearsal room to riot, if somewhat random applause from her castmates and Derek gives us the rundown: the workshop is primarily for the ensemble, only some numbers will be staged, some costumes but “basically it’s up to you to sell it.” However, Eileen Rand doesn’t have the $200,000 she needs to finance this workshop. Turns out her soon-to-be-ex-husband Jerry is keeping her from accessing all but $8,000. So she tries to sell a prized Degas sketch hanging in her office to make it happen, but even that it is Jerry’s name. Karen keeps getting cut from numbers, thanks to sly comments from Ivy. She confides in Jessica, who along with Sue and Bobby, take shipping for LaDuca, new dance clothes and an “intervention.” Which is Chinese food, Marie Kando-ing her closet and performing a dance from routine from their snap and booty shake “dance class.” Everyone ends up at a party for Lyle West at Derek’s house, which of course has a casual grand piano, a drum set and a saxophonist. Eileen has brought the Degas with her which she offers in exchange for points - IF the show is any good. So there’s an impromptu performance of Bombshell which is enough for Lyle to chip in the $200k. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week's episode focuses on the time Wes Taylor spent in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany in 2016 on military assignment. To pass the time, he visited quite a few places during those infamous weekend passes the organization is known to have including Prague, Vatican City, and Rome. We even talk about a pretty scary encounter he had while in Vatican City, but also how I sincerely believe chocolate cream-filled penises make anything all better. Ep 66: Seth Murray & Wes Taylor - Natural Child / Sade Sanchez & Irida Pai - L.A. Witch Seth & Wes tell BD about growing up in Nashville and meeting each other in those formative teen years playing in bands. They found more success out of their hometown which kept them touring these past 8 years. The hecklers they've experienced touring all over the country are apparently not as bad as German critics. Buy Natural Child's new album “Okey Dokey” here: http://www.naturalchildrecords.com Then Sade and Irida from L.A. Witch tell BD about their early years in and around the Los Angeles area where Sade started her first band with their drummer Ellie. How Irida started on keys in the band before find her current place as bassist. The busy times their in on the road and trying to finish their upcoming record before taking off to Europe for 2 separate month long tours. Buy L.A. Witch's new 7” “Drive Your Car” here: https://lawitches.bandcamp.com Sponsored today by: http://www.hairballaudio.com & http://www.blumensteinaudio.com
