Send us a textSpreuke 12:18 Daar is mense wat dinge sal sê wat seermaak. 'n Wyse mens se woord bring eerder genesing. (NLV) Dit lyk vir my of daar twee kategorieë mense in hierdie wêreld is. Dit is vir my tweede natuur. Hoe lyk jou rekord? 'n Wyse mens se woord bring eerder genesing. Dit is God se Woord. Hello and welcome to another episode of the podcast. Today on the podcast I'm excited to have an interview with Kaleb Wyse. Kaleb is the creator of Wyse Guide and the author of the new cookbook There's Always Room at the Table. When Kaleb Wyse started documenting his daily life on his farm in Iowa, he didn't think many people would take notice or even care. After all, his way of life is simple, guided by the seasons—he spends his days gardening, preserving, baking, and cooking, a rhythm not all that different from that of his parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents who worked the land before him. But it turns out that people from all over the country connected with Kaleb's simple, back-to-basics way of living, and fell in love with his hearty, homestyle cooking. From casseroles to biscuits, his recipes hit the sweet spot of nostalgia for some—and are a breath of fresh air for others. Today on the show we're here to visit with Kaleb, learn all about his journey first on social media, leaning in to his life in south-east Iowa on his family's farm, and then his journey to writing and publishing his first cookbook. What's better than building a brand for your audience? Building it with them. From starting with 5 cashmere jumpers at a trade show to serving 150k+ brand fans & a cult following, Marielle Wyse has built her brand entirely through customer co-creation. This week on the podcast, Verity welcomes Marielle (Founder & Director @ WYSE London) for an entirely expert take on fostering Brand Advocacy. During lockdown, Marielle turned her living room into a creative studio – using Instagram Lives and raw, unscripted moments to meet her customers where they were. The result? A brand built on trust, dialogue, and joy; one that doesn't just sell clothes, but helps women rediscover their “fashion mojo”. Tune in to hear her take on: Two-Way Dialogues on Instagram: Marielle's Instagram Lives transform customers into collaborators. By inviting them to share what they truly want from the brand, whilst also connecting on causes that matter, WYSE fosters a sense of inclusion that feels real and relatable. Marielle's process is refreshingly simple; send a suitcase of clothes home, set up a rail, and let fun & engagement lead the way. Dark Social as a Relationship Builder: By using DMs in personalised ways (forget mass replies & think voice notes from the Founder) and private polls to spark meaningful action, Marielle is building loyalty. While she no longer replies to every DM personally, her presence in the Comments and other touchpoints ensures her community feels seen and valued. These personal interactions, from bonding over TV shows to addressing individual feedback, strengthen customer relationships and quietly drive sales. Pivoting with Purpose & Imagination: Marielle doubles down on creativity to keep her Instagram strategy fresh and engaging. From testing new formats to embracing the charming chaos of themed Lives, her willingness to experiment kept her audience hooked. This imaginative approach, paired with a focus on listening closely to her customers, ensures she's always designing pieces her audience loves – never “clothes nobody wants to buy”. It's your guide to creating connection through care, relatability & getting creative. Seedbanking is a means of protecting and preserving our endemic fauna through drying and freezing seeds for long-term storage. It is highly effective, with expert evidence showing that 80% of Aotearoa's native plant species can be preserved using these conventional methods. However, other seeds require more complicated methods for successful preservation, which researchers currently know little about. Olivia spoke to Lecturer of Forest Ecology at the School of Forestry at the University of Canterbury, Dr Sarah Wyse, about both the conventional and unconventional means of seedbanking, the gaps in current research, and how people can learn more about this important issue.

Today I'm talking with Michael Arrieta, who currently serves as the Founder and CEO of Garden City, a purpose-driven holding company that buys, grows, and permanently holds family-owned companies. He was an early employee at DocuSign and served as Global Vice President, General Manager, and Chief of Staff to the CEO before he founded MAV Ventures in 2016. Michael also co-founded New Story, a non-profit organization that has built over 2,000 homes in developing countries. Following his success as a young sales representative at Cutco and after seeking wise counsel, Michael made the decision to move to Silicon Valley, where he joined a startup called Wyse before his path led him to DocuSign in 2014. With his passion to make small things flourish, Michael started investing in small companies with a mission to help them grow, which later resulted in the creation of Garden City. Michael, through the holding company, envisions enriching the lives of the working class by acquiring family-owned service businesses and putting a culture that's all about purpose, belonging, and excellence. In this episode, you will learn the advantages of seeking wise counsel, why hard work is necessary to be successful in life and business, and the importance of knowing your ‘why' and purpose. Here are just some of the things we get into: Michael looks back at his humble beginnings. How he landed a job at DocuSign in the early years of the company. The importance and benefits of mentorship. What made him take the path to become an entrepreneur. What they do in Garden City and the impact they want to make.
