Jen Olmstead, co-founder and Lead Designer of TONIC Site Shop, takes us along on her journey from accidental entrepreneur to successful Showit website template designer over the past 11 years. She shares the importance of storytelling in marketing and the power of creating content that is valuable, engaging, and fun to create – anything but boring. Jen emphasizes the need to focus on quality over quantity and to find the intersection between what you are uniquely capable of delivering and what your audience wants. Throughout our conversation, Jen shares insights on finding inspiration, sharing your story, and embracing your uniqueness (weirdness?) in your business. She explains WHY design builds trust with your audience – the key factor that leads them to purchase from you. Jen also discusses setting boundaries, prioritizing, and involving your kids in your work. She encourages entrepreneurs to embrace their strengths and be ruthless with what they say no to. Jen shares her perspective on having faith and trusting in God's plan, as well as the importance of doing less but better. Jen describes how 2023 was the hardest year in business for TONIC, what she and partner Jeff Shipley learned and how 2024 will be different because of it. Thank you so much to Jen for sharing her wit and wisdom with us in this entertaining convo that feels a lot like a high-end marketing masterclass. Some of the highlights from this episode of BEYOND and my convo with Jen Olmstead: Why focus on creating content that is unique, valuable, and engaging. How to find the intersection between what you are uniquely capable of creating and what your audience wants. What it looks like to prioritize quality over quantity in content creation. How Jen finds inspiration and anticipation in her content creation by setting specific times for thinking, researching and writing. (And how sometimes, it just happens when inspiration strikes.) Why embracing your uniqueness and sharing your story leads you to create content that is anything but boring. What's important about design and a killer website that builds trust with your people. How setting boundaries and prioritizing your work time creates a healthy work-life balance. How embracing your strengths and being ruthless with what you say no to allows you to focus on what truly aligns with your goals and values. What it looks like to Involve your kids in your work and create boundaries to ensure quality time with them. How to identify your most productive time and leverage it to maximize your creativity and productivity. The role of faith in Jen's family life and business: including trust in God's plan, knowing that He will guide you in your journey as a parent and entrepreneur. Simplifying by doing less, but better, honing in on what truly aligns with your vision and goals. Why 2023 was the hardest year for Tonic Site Shop, what Jen learned and what she's doing differently in 2024. During his divorce he found himself drinking heavily, isolating himself and was lacking ambition, drive and had hit an all time high in weight at 240 lbs. After an alcohol incident that affected his hunting trip and having to leave work early because he was shaking. he decided to quit cold Turkey and set some goals. he was so determined to not feel like he did anymore. He began using MTN Ops Ammo to replace a meal a day and kept the rest clean. he used MTN Ops ignite to keep energy levels up. He found some motivational people in Eric Chesser, and Weston McArthur (Rise and Shed) that were doing what he had always dreamed of doing. In three months he had lost 70 lbs, was sober and had finally spent the time in the mountains like he had always wanted to. He became obsessed, you could say, with shed hunting and began finding sheds he had always dreamed of. He somehow in this journey became a content creator. Posting videos he hopes to either make people laugh, be inspired to make changes, and sometimes cry. Because it's ok to not be ok. His true passion still lies in building my business Public MTN and hopefully one day can pursue that full time. Read the Article here or Watch the episode here. This episode is really for my marketing junkies and small business owners. My guest today is a website designer and brilliant brand strategist who truly was a disruptor in the website template design business back in 2013 and continues to attract influential clients for her one of a kind websites. Jen Olmstead, the co-founder of Tonic Site Shop, has truly been living the life that so many of us aspire to have. She lives in the middle of nowhere with her three kids and handsome husband. And Jen works with well-known influential clients all over the country. She protects her time when designing new products by going into what she calls her design cave. She creates an immersive fun process working with her one-on-one clients that includes hanging out at bougie hotels or in their homes. Jen keeps herself spending a majority of her time working in her zone of genius-and that's doing the design work in her business which is so hard for so many leaders, not just in the business of marketing. This is a topic that comes up in our SWELL groups all the time. If you aren't familiar with SWELL, it's our small group program where we match you with four or five other leaders to support you in monthly sessions together. The reason this comes up so much is that it's hard as a leader to decide what your role should be. Some prefer to delegate everything and become the leader of the business versus the doer in the business. They stay so far in the weeds, doing so many menial tasks because it's hard for them to ask for help and delegate. But people like Jen intentionally define what their role is and stick to it. She loves the design work and the branding so she spends her time doing just that. Jen is a gift and her work is absolutely beautiful. I know you're going to love this conversation. Listen to the full episode to hear: How Jen ensures that she's doing what she loves and is in the thick of her business-rather than delegating everything out Why knowing and living your zone of genius is essential to serving your business best Why it's so important to learn how to say no and delegate things in your business How Jen's brand cocktail quizzes help influence product development The evolution and lessons of Tonic Site Shop from 2013 all the way to the present day Learn more about Jen Olmstead: Tonic Site Shop Rebelle Member Spotlight - Brinkley Taliaferro: brinkleytaliaferrorealestate.com Connect with Brinkley on Instagram Rebelle Shout Out: Shay Cochran Connect with Shay on Instagram Cheyennevarner.com Connected with Cheyenne on Instagram Follow The Educated Birth on Instagram Learn more about Shannon Siriano Greenwood: What Kind Of Rule Breaker Are You? How often do you go back to your roots, where it all started? I did this the other day with the Goal Digger Podcast, rewinding all the way back to episode number two and my first ever guest on the show, Jen Olmstead. I wanted to invite her back on the podcast for another go-around, because so much has changed since that episode on November 18, 2016. Jen Olmstead knows websites, and she’s one half of the Tonic Site Shop duo that has been helping Jenna Kutcher websites look fab since my very first site design. Jen knows how to present your brand in a way that stands out from the masses and attracts your ideal customers, even without a fully custom web design. We’re talking about what she knows best -- website design. She shares why “looking the part” doesn’t have to mean a totally custom design, the crucial components of any business site, and the key clues that your site might be ready for a little refresh. A well thought-out, beautiful website design is hugely important for introducing your brand to your customers. Jen Olmstead and Jeff Shipley from Tonic Site Shop came into my life in 2019. Jen designed the stunning, colorful, bursting-with-personality ShowIt/Wordpress website you see today and I couldn't be more thrilled with it. Throughout the process of working with Jen and Jeff, I learned that there's so much more to website planning than color schemes and pretty fonts—you've got to have a clear brand story. Because Jen is SO knowledgeable about intentional website design and killer About pages, I knew I had to bring her on the show and share her wisdom with all of you. (Plus, witty banter is her love language and so it's always a blast talking to her.) Episode show notes: https://jennarainey.com/jenolmstead/

Wit & Delight listeners get 15% off any Tonic Site Shop designs (yes, even their new Fall '19 designs) by using the code WIT&DELIGHTI am so excited to be sharing my conversation with Jen Olmstead, Lead Designer and Creative Director at Tonic Site Shop. Jen is someone who I have come to know and love and who has become a mentor to me. Jen is one half of Tonic and she built the custom Wit & Delight website, which is a completely new experience that was launched in April. In this conversation, Jen and I talk all about how to build a brand online. I've long admired the way Jen puts tangible action behind a lot of the issues that entrepreneurs and business owners have. She really helps people understand the importance of trying out ideas rather than worrying about the precise strategy or having a *perfectly* crafted idea.I hope you enjoy our conversation and get a bit of an understanding of both how we work together and how you can work with Jen and Tonic to get your website up and running in a fraction of the time it would take to build something custom.RESOURCES: Tonic Site Shop's Brand Interview Worksheet15% off Tonic Site Shop's Website Designs by using code: WIT&DELIGHT
I admit it; for the past four years, I’ve been saying something I’m not proud of. I’ve been preaching something that I don’t believe in. Six little words that I wish I could take back. Looking back, I know why I started saying it. In fact, it was one of those phrases that other coaches said to me when I was first starting out. It was a good thing at the time -- it let me know that I could achieve anything I desired when I was a newbie in the online space with tons of dreams and nothing to show for them (yet). But the truth is, I’m no longer that girl, and now, every time I say this phrase out loud now, it makes me cringe. A little voice screams back “THAT’S SO NOT TRUE”. I see it in my husband’s face when he tells me he’s proud of me. When our company hits a new milestone. When a client emails in with another success story. That voice is right; it’s so not true. A few weeks ago, I had my own “a-ha” moment about this statement. Not only did I realize I no longer agreed with it, I knew I had to come clean and share this with you on the IHML Show. This phrase pertains to your success and you really achieving everything that you desire in your life. So if you're interested in learning more, make sure to listen to this special episode. During this episode, we’re going to cover… Why I’m no longer using one phrase in particular in my marketing (and why I recommend you stop too). How your unique gifts and qualities are key to your success and how to channel them into your work starting today. Why all you desire stems (in some form or another) from self-love. An introduction to the Law of Polarity -- what it means and why it’s paramount that you remember it in everything you do (especially if it feels like things aren’t happening...yet). A common thread I see across the board when it comes to the world's most successful people (and also within myself) and how to generate it in your own life and business. One of my favorite quotes from this episode is this: “Most people stop right before it's about to happen. Most people don't set themselves apart from the crowd, and so I really want to invite you to be the difference maker, be that person that stands out and remember you are special and there's some very special characteristics that make you you and make you capable of the success that you desire.” - Emily Williams ABOUT TONIC SITE SHOP: In this episode of the IHML Show, we reference Tonic Site Shop. The truth is, Tonic + IHML is a match made in heaven. Here’s the love story... A few weeks ago, our super custom site was having issues, so I asked Jen at Tonic Site Shop to help. I knew about the ShowIt platform and was going to have her team rebuild our current site on that. (We’re all about simplicity this year, and wanted a site that our team could easily update and manage versus something only a developer could handle.) But when the designer was due to get started, I couldn’t let her move forward. The truth was that our site was no longer a reflection of our company. So I knew we had to change course -- and quickly. So I decided to dive into the ShowIt platform myself for the very first time and see what I could do. I didn’t want to take the next few months going back and forth with a designer or copywriter... Plus, I wanted to know how ShowIt actually worked because I’m always looking for new software and tips to share with people like you. As you can probably imagine since I built a whole site in a week, it was seriously user friendly. Paired with the fact that I bought a gorgeous template through Tonic, it was a match made in heaven. Then we had an incredible designer come in and help me refine, tweak and perfect the vision. And one of the reasons I’m sharing this with you today is that Tonic has been OH SO GENEROUS and is giving all I Heart My Life clients 15% off of template purchases. All you have to do is type in “IHEARTMYLIFE” when you go to check out on their site and choose your design. What I love about them is that they’re a template company for people who don’t think they want a template. HA! (That’s exactly what I said to Jen -- I wanted something unique and wanted to hire her to do it, she assured me, their templates can be easily customized to fit your brand. Plus they’re hosted on Wordpress so you get all the SEO benefits.) I knew I had to share this with you today… Because I’m excited Because you need to experience ShowIt + Tonic Can’t wait to see your creation come to life. The truth is, there’s no longer an excuse for bad design. Let’s get your brand out in the world TODAY. (Seriously, there are no excuses. We built this in 7 days while running a company.) Jennifer is a Virginia-based graphic designer, visual storyteller, and type nerd. A lifelong fan of a good story - and shaping the words and letters that tell it - she specializes in creating uniquely-tailored brand experiences for creative entrepreneurs, and in building online spaces that people love to explore. In 2013, Jen and fellow designer Jeffrey Shipley founded TONIC SITE SHOP and launched their first collection of cocktail-inspired, "completely customizable websites for the modern, stylish creative."
