Dealing With Stress to Alleviate Phantom Pain Ahhh, stress! It wouldn't be a day or a week without something triggering stress. A bid decision, a deadline, a fight with a friend, or even traffic! As amputees we also face the uphill battles of healing, socket fittings, sores and painful steps, and phantom pains. Sometimes it feels like we never get a break. It feels like the weight of the world is placed on our shoulders and we can't come up for air. What we all need to learn is that every time we feel stressed out we have, in our own power, the ability to change the outcome. We control the narrative and we control how we come out on the other side. "Mind over Matter" isn't just a cliche it is truth. When we hold in stressors we destroy our immune system, disrupt our nervous system, and create more problems than we need to. We need to find ways to release negativity and stressors in our life. They will always be there, so instead of letting them take control and reeking havoc on your health you need to find ways to work through them and find a peace in your life. When we learn to breathe, slow down, relax, and let go of the things we cannot control, then start feeding our mind with positive and affirming words we can begin to heal ourselves and give our bodies a chance to heal. This week I challenge you. Find time to slow down and breathe slowly and deeply through troubles and stressors you are feeling. Realize what you can control and what you cannot. If you can't control something it's time to let it go. Use animals to help you find quiet time and centering. Horses especially are extremely intuitive and can read you from a mile away. If you bring in negative energy or a lot of "baggage" they won't want to be close to you, and I don't know about you, but I go see my horses for the kisses and love they pour into me. If I come preoccupied and upset, holding onto something negative, they sense it and walk away from me. I must clear my mind and center/ground myself if I want meaningful interaction with them. Our closeness happens when I let my fears, anxiety, and stressors melt away and I focus on being present with my girl. Words of affirmation and positivity. Speak them and repeat them as often as you need to about yourself until you have created a positive mindset. If you consistently beat yourself up over little things or become negative about your healing then this is where you need the most work. Our brain is a very powerful tool that believes what we speak into it. Speak only good and positive and watch your circumstances change for the better! Finally, have grace upon grace for yourself. You won't be perfect and you will stumble as you go through life, we all do, the challenge is to pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and try again. You've got this and I know you can do it. As you begin to make the changes needed to reduce stressors in your life you will start to notice phantom pains not being your focal point which then makes their grip on you much less. Don't give your pain power! Deny them and don't continue to talk about them. The less time you pay attention to the pains you feel the less likely you are to be consumed and debilitated by them. You deserve better! You can do this! Be positive, breathe and focus on the positives! Watch your stress melt away and your phantom pains calm down. Wishing you a week filled with health and happy thoughts. And as always, Be Healthy, Be Happy, Be YOU!! Much love,
When life feels overwhelming, is real peace even possible? This week, Pastor Matt continues our series on Psalm 23 by exploring one of the most powerful lines in the passage - “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”This message is a reminder that God doesn't wait to bring peace until our problems go away. Instead, He invites us to experience His presence in the middle of the chaos.Whether you're walking through pressure at work, tension in your home, or anxiety about the future, this message will encourage you to lean into the peace that only God can give.Send us a text

You never know what tomorrow may bring, and for many people that leads to anxiety. Karina Winn was 38 weeks pregnant, which comes with unknowns big and small, ranging from wondering if her shoes will fit again after pregnancy to who her child will become. With that much uncertainty, how do you move into the unknown confidently? This episode is a reminder that your journey has equipped you for what's next. It's also a reminder that people want to help you. You just have to be willing to ask for it and accept it. In this episode you'll hear about: the identity changes that come with pregnancy, tips to deal with stress and uncertainty, balancing control and surrender through uncertainty, having loose plans for your life, writing your story from the perspective of joy, asking for and accepting help as an independent woman, self-awareness, and trusting divine timing during transitions. At the end of the episode, we reframe her limiting belief "you can't feel secure in uncertainty" to fit more within Karina's desired reality. Stay tuned until the end to shift your mindset. Imagine there's a crisis at work. One more thing on your overwhelming to do list. Something that really throws you off balance… So, you're essentially faced with two choices. The first is to allow the fear response of your ancient brain to take control, pushing you into a classic fight, flight or freeze mode. Technically you could faint too but I'm guessing, you'll keep awake Here's what the results will look like. Fight, you might push back or lash out making the situation worse. Flight, you might conveniently have appointments outside the office in an attempt to escape or avoid the situation. Yes, avoidance, remember that one? Freeze, you check your emails for the hundredth time waiting for an answer from someone from anyone. Because you know, you don't have any. If this is your default stress response, it is a habit pattern of thinking that kicks in at the first sign of trouble. Remember the 800-pound Gorilla, It's pounding his chest to get what he wants. You have a tendency toward a threat response to stress than your first job is to learn how to interrupt this default mode, so that you can alternatively choose a challenge-response, and this is your other choice. By following 4 simple steps: Allow yourself to notice whatever you're feeling without judgement or resistance. Take six slow breaths. Breathing will help to keep you from slipping into a threat response. Observe your body thoughts and feelings without judgement, or any physical, emotional or mental stress. So, stop thinking, just observe. Name what you're experiencing, acknowledge it and then release it. For example, anger, or irritation or overwhelm. If you're overwhelmed, just silently and kindly say, I feel overwhelmed. I choose to release it. If you're irritated, just silently, and kindly say I'm upset. I choose to release it. Using this simple exercise, you can consciously gain more control of your subconscious reactions and calm yourself. Once you do that, you can then change your response. Just doing this exercise changes your brain, rather than being swept away by the current of emotions, you can respond to them. If you are a high achieving professional woman who put high expectations on yourself especially before holidays; only to find yourself becoming ill during your holiday due to all the stress around you, you probably already experienced some sort of burnout. When is the last time you took a break from ‘doing things and going through the motions of daily activities on autopilot and had a good look at yourself; your life and how things are going? If you are listening to this podcast, it means that there is a part of you who believes that there are some areas of your life that are not working as they should or you are working too hard in some and neglecting others. In this episode, we look at some practical ways that we can reform how we think. To allow us to be less stressed out.
In this episode, we look at the causes of stress and anxiety, and how we deal with them spiritually.
Actually, the title of this week's episode is a little misleading - after all, why do you need to deal with something that, in reality, isn't there.Yes, whilst everyday life is full or pressure and challenge, stress is imaginary, in the mind of the beholder. That doesn't make stress any less life-destroying, literally. Everyday stress kills, like death by a thousand cuts. Everyday stress damages the cardiovascular, digestive and immune systems - but not, not ever, beyond repair. You can choose to rid your life of stress today - you don't even have to image something different from your imaginary stress, you just have to come to your senses. In this episode, we explore how two-step cognitive appraisal triggers stress - in other words, what's happening to you doesn't trigger your stress, what you think about what you think is happening and how you think you might be able to handle it... all that thinking is what triggers your stress and, in the process, makes what might be a small, everyday challenge, feel like a life-threatening situation. All this is automated but that does not mean that there's nothing that you can do about it.On the contrary - the small steps that you must take to rid your life of stress are as easy and as natural as breathing in and out.And ridding your life of stress is only the beginning because, once free of that thought-fuelled downward spiral, you're free to start living the kind of life you're meant to be living, one that's filled with perfect moments.

I hope you had A safe week. I am actually recording this podcast from New York. However, I do live in Los Angeles and I own a house there. And, like so many, all of us Angelenos, it's been a terrifying week, and I'm saying it's been a terrifying week, and I haven't even been there. But I've been watching the fire creep closer to my house, and at the moment I am recording this, thankfully, I am out of immediate danger. My family is out of immediate danger. My house is out of immediate danger. I want to talk today. Briefly, this will be a shorter podcast about stress. Because over the past two weeks, I have endured a lot of stress. My mom and dad came out to Los Angeles to celebrate the holidays with us. And on Christmas night, my mom unfortunately had a stroke. She spent the night in the hospital. And believe it or not, this is my mom's seventh. That once I got my parents settled, almost like I went upstairs and that's when I heard about the fires in L.A. and it was stressful with my mom because she didn't have all of her doctors around her. And that was stressful. And then I got her home and I was like, okay, because I kept saying to myself, okay just wait till Sunday, just get her settled on Sunday. And then, I got her settled over the next couple of days and then this happened. So stress has been something that I have personally been dealing with. I also need to say I fully realized that my stress is my stress but the stress to those people who have lost houses is unimaginable. What I want to talk about is just one thing, because sometimes when so much is happening, it's the only thing we can do is focus on just one thing. And that is the tool of journaling. One of the things that I've picked back up recently, because of the situation with my mom, but also because I've decided to, quite frankly, go deeper with my spiritual practice. I'm doubling down. I'm raising the level. I am raising the frequency. Of what I am living, of how I am living. And one of the things that has helped me to do that is stream of consciousness journaling. I found it before everything happened with my mom, meditating, to be something, I wouldn't call meditation easy, but something that I enjoyed. But while this has been going on, that has proven to be a bit too challenging for me. Visions of the news, visions of maps, visions of, all the horrible things that all of us have seen circle in my head. But what I can do is I can sit down, and I always talk about getting a nice cup of tea because I'm a big tea drinker, sitting down and journaling just stream of consciousness. And, In situations like where we're in right now, especially for those of you who are so directly affected, I find that really forcing myself to do it for a good 20 minutes. All this is really necessary as long as you can till your hand starts to hurt. Now notice I say my hand because again when it comes to journaling I so strongly believe in writing it out. So that is my tool. Really, double down, raise the level, raise your frequency around your spiritual practice now. And stay safe, stay super safe, and take care of yourself this week. I hope this helps.

I assume you know this, but let me quickly make sure: trading is stressful. If you think you can walk into the world of trading and feel zero stress, I have some ocean front property in Iowa I would love to sell you! Due to this fact, any time “stress” in mentioned in the world from any context, I always do my best to listen. If I can learn something new about stress, the logic would follow that I could perhaps deal with it that much better within my trading. I came across an article about Mark Cuban and what he finds valuable within his employees. He mentioned a specific skill that I would say is at the forefront of trading success. There's also a couple other interesting data points about stress that I believe will serve as a reminder to use all, whether beginner trader or veteran. Let's get to it!

Hello everyone, welcome to another episode. Today I really want to talk about something important that starts with a personal story. The story is from when Rob and I were camping a couple of weeks ago and has to do with how I felt about shopping for and trying on clothes in my favorite clothing store in Canmore. I love a certain brand and I know they fit well but I decided to try on a new brand in my size and it did not flatter at all. It was constricting and felt terrible. And I had already felt out of place walking in because I'd come straight off a hike with Rob and was dusty and in hiking gear. All of this culminated in this thought popping into my head: “I feel fat.” And I want to talk about what we actually mean when we think that. I want to break that down and take away its power today. The truth is that when we say we “feel fat” we are actually talking about something else. Because fat is not a feeling. It's not an emotion. But the word ‘fat' does carry a lot of weight in our thin-obsessed society and it is a loaded term. We use it to express feelings of inadequacy or discomfort or, in my case, even failure. So I want us to think about what we're really saying when we say “I feel fat”. When I said that, I projected all my feelings onto my body. I projected society's idea of fatness as equal to being undesirable or worthless onto my own body. But my body was not the problem. My emotions were what I needed to deal with. Let me say that directly to each of you. Just because you feel discomfort in your body doesn't mean your body is the problem. I want to help you shift your focus away from blaming your body and help you build a more compassionate relationship with it. I want to help reframe what we mean when we say “I feel fat”. Join me in this episode as I unpack what's really behind that sentence and how we can remove our bodies as the target of our emotions.__About Dr. Michelle Tubman:Dr. Michelle Tubman is certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, which means she understands exactly what's happening in your body when you diet.
