What if joy wasn't something you had to earn? And what if the reason it feels so far away isn't because you're doing it wrong - but because your body doesn't feel safe enough to receive it?In this powerful episode, I'm joined by Danielle Brooker - Motherhood Joy Coach, speaker, and mentor - who helps Mums break free from exhaustion, ditch the pressure to ‘do it right,' and expand their capacity for joy without self-sacrifice.Danielle offers a radical reframe: that true, sustainable joy isn't found in more bubble baths or 'perfect' to-do lists. It's found in the body, when our nervous system feels safe enough to soften.Together, we explore:Why so many mothers feel stuck in survival modeHow nervous system regulation is the missing link in accessing lasting joyWhy “just think positive” culture can leave women feeling unseen and unsupportedDanielle's personal story of burnout and what it really means to “do your thing” in alignment with joyPractical, embodied ways to begin reconnecting with joy - even amidst the chaos of MotherhoodWe also talk about Danielle's free online retreat happening from 20–23 May 2025 - Mama Joy Ignite - a soulful, spacious event for big-hearted, ambitious mothers ready to reconnect with themselves, break free of the mess, and ignite their joy.Along with 18+ other inspiring experts I'm honoured to be a speaker at this retreat too - leading a juicy, soul-deep conversation and visualisation to help you lighten the maternal mental load.

In this week's powerful episode of Do Your Thing I'm joined by my friend, fellow coach, and Mama Rising™ Facilitator Katrina Court, for a deeply honest and validating conversation about the one word that helped her reclaim herself after becoming a mother: Matrescence.Matrescence is the often-ignored, yet transformational shift that occurs as we journey from woman to mother. And yet, most of us have never even heard the word.Released during Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, this episode shines a light on why Motherhood can feel so overwhelming and discombobulating, and why understanding matrescence could be the missing piece in making sense of it all.During this conversation, Katrina and I explore:Her raw and relatable early Motherhood experience - and the identity crisis that followedThe pressure to “bounce back” and how discovering matrescence freed her from thatWhat matrescence actually is, how long it can last, and why it affects every mumWhy recognising this transition is essential for self-compassion and mental wellbeingHow it's changed the way she "does her thing" in her personal and professional lifeThe first steps she recommends for any Mums feeling lost in the thick of matrescenceThis conversation is a must-listen for any mother who has ever thought “Why is this so hard?” - and is ready to feel seen, heard, and supported

YUP - it doesn't have to be a choice! This conversation is packed full of gold, where Zoe shares all sorts including: The challenging impact that Motherhood had on her social life and relationship - and how she navigated her way throughThe reasons we can find it so difficult to invest time in our relationships alongside raising our kidsWhy it is SO important to maintain meaningful relationships as a MumSome answers to the million dollar question: How do we do it???? Most Mums I speak to know the feeling of the 'Invisible Maternal Load' all too well - and yet often they feel the weight of it before they truly understand what it is. At times, it can feel utterly inescapable for us as Mums where we feel so weighed down by the never-ending ticker tape of mental, emotional and domestic responsibilities we're wading through, day in day out. A load that they often feel nobody else in the family truly understands, recognises or appreciates. But while feeling utterly overwhelmed by all of the to-dos and needs whirling round our heads - we can also simultaneously resign ourselves to believing that this is just how Motherhood is. Subsequently leaving us feeling EVEN more frustrated, unfulfilled, stuck - and even resentful - which isn't ever going to be any good for anyone. BUT HERE'S THE THING: that belief you're holding onto is BULLSH*T and there is 100% another way! And I want you to know that it is absolutely possible for us to break free from the draining, disempowering shackles of this invisible maternal load - and feel a whole lot lighter, more liberated and empowered in ourselves and how we show up in our daily lives. But first we need to understand the often unspoken intricacies of this 'invisible maternal load' phenomenon so we can tackle it head on! And during this episode I hope to help enlighten you on this topic, so you can start making those important first moves to lightening that load for yourself. Emily is also trained in Somatics and subsequently a big believer in brain body parenting and parenting in tune with all the nervous systems in the household. During this episode, Emily shares invaluable insights around WHY so many women find themselves struck down by shame during Motherhood, and tells her own story with so much openness and honesty during about how she experienced profound shame when she became a Mum - and the impact that had on her self-esteem, relationships and sense of identity as a whole. Emily goes on to shares the healing journey she went on in order to face, process and overcome her deep-rooted shame by cultivating what she describes as "Shame Resilience", which forms a core focus of her work, and she generously guides listeners to become more shame resilient themselves so they can ultimately live more authentic and joyful lives alongside raising their kids. I really hope this episode helps normalise some of these deeply uncomfortable feelings that can so commonly come up during Motherhood - because the more we talk about them, the less alone we'll all feel.FIND OUT MORE ABOUT EMILY HUGHES:- Follow Emily on Instagram HERE- Visit Emily's website and find out more about her work HERE- Access Emily's FREE masterclass: Stop Yelling & Start Thriving HEREABOUT ME! As Mums we channel so much of our time, headspace and love into our kids and families to support their development, health, happiness and wellbeing. But too often our own deeper needs and aspirations get buried under a pile of laundry or fall to the bottom of the to-do list, because everything else is seemingly way more urgent! Episode 27: Purposeful Parenthood Planning with Helen Cammack

During this episode I talk to Helen Cammack about how the act of purposefully planning her experience of parenthood ahead of time has had a profound impact on how she does her thing in her life in life and Motherhoodd. After a successful corporate career and several start-up businesses, becoming a parent nearly didn't happen for Helen because she just couldn't see past the challenges of parenthood, and couldn't figure out how it would work for her. Helen was anxious about becoming a parent for many years, until she finally overcame that anxiety with the planning and preparation required as part of the adoption process. And when she finally adopted her two children when she was nearly 43 she felt ready to embrace parenthood, her way, and her anxiety dissipated. 7 years later, Helen is now the founder of Preparental.com, a business to help all future parents (not just adopters) with their practical planning and preparation for being parents Whether you're a natural planner or not, this episode offers so much food for thought around the power of approaching life as a parent with our eyes and minds wide open. Because, as Helen so beautifully shares in this episode, she believes that planning and preparing your life - not just your body - for parenthood, enables parents to be more confident, purposeful, aligned and intentional, and much more likely to enjoy the parenthood ride in our own unique and ownable ways. This episode of Do Your Thing is another gorgeous conversation from my Instagram live archives where I spoke to Tricia Murray all about about navigating anxiety as a parent. Tricia is a Mum of 4 boys, and she is also a Mind Coach and Business Mentor, helping anxious, stressed and frazzled women find calm and ease in their lives and businesses. As well as supporting women with anxiety Tricia has also been on her own anxiety journey, only realising in her 30's that what she had experienced throughout her life WAS actually anxiety. It was only when Tricia was well into Motherhood that she really began to understand and take back control of her anxiety - and in turn also support hundreds of other women to do the same. Anxiety is a topic that I know will be relevant to so many of us (myself included) and parenthood can be a real trigger as well as a powerful motivation to support ourselves. And during this conversation Tricia talks so insightfully about the topic armed with a huge amount of both personal and professional wisdom, experience and empathy. I really this episode provides you with some support, solidarity and suggestions to help you realise you CAN take back control over your difficult thoughts and feelings, and that your anxiety doesnt need to define you or your experience of Motherhood. "Anger is the guardian of sadness and other emotions"These words played a pivotal role in how I understand and deal with my own big feelings that show up as rage in my life. And in this episode I wanted to share some more background to this transformational concept, in the hope that it supports you to work through your own big emotions that may rear their heads (and make a whole big mess!) while on your Motherhood journey. Rage in motherhood is so very real for so many of us - so many of my clients and friends tell me how they really struggle to keep a handle on their angry reactions and outbursts, especially since becoming a Mum. ‘Doing Your Thing' can also feel so much harder when we are blinded by such overpowering emotions. So I hope this short podcast episode helps to both normalise the big feelings you may be experiencing in Motherhood, and helps you show yourself some more compassion and feel more supported and resourced in yourself when the red mist swoops on in. Jo has 2 grown up kids (aged 18 and 21), she is the Director of coaching school 'Wellness Professionals At Work' PLUS she is also a trained Homeopath, Life Coach and a qualified teacher. During this conversation Jo shares how her own childhood health struggles (which came with an inability to find an adequate remedy via conventional medicine) introduced her to the world of homeopathy, which later down the line also motivated her to raise her family using natural health and wellness remedies and techniques. What I found especially refreshing was that Jo is not ANTI conventional medicine at all – but rather she is PRO choice, and has learnt how to intuitively integrate conventional medicine into her own natural approach. This episode is a beautiful lesson in trusting your gut instincts, championing open communication with your kids about how they are feeling and cultivating a sense of empowerment when it comes to taking responsibity for our own health and wellbeing. And this is something that my podcast guest this week, Sarah Billingham, found really challenging to navigate when she became a parent, which she talks about in detail in this highly relatable episode. Sarah is a Mum of 2, a specialist speech and language therapist, the founder of her business Confident Kids and the host of her own brilliant podcast called Raising Confident Kids with SEN - and through her work Sarah equips parents, carers and practitioners with expert knowledge and tools to support children with Special educational needs. Despite having always carved out her own path with relative ease pre-kids, Sarah shares the strong internal conflict she experienced after becoming a parent which subsequently invited her to challenge and re-construct the way she made choices for herself, her family and her professional future. This week I'm sharing a wonderfully down-to-earth and relatable conversation I had with Menopause Coach and Therapist, Louisa Hussey, about how she has found a way to ‘do her thing' in life and Motherhood while navigating what she describes as being ‘the worst menopause ever' If you're a woman, menopause is an inevitability – whether you care to face that reality or not! And as Louisa shares, while we will all have different experiences, for some the menopause can be a pretty turbulent time of our lives IF we don't have the tools or support to take ownership of how our bodies are changing and what we really need. Off the back of her own challenging menopause journey Lou has not only found her own way to regain control over how her life looks and feels but has also used her experience to support other women "being kicked in the tits by their hormones" (which I think probs gives you a sense of her vibe!) During this wonderful (and highly entertaining!) chat we discussed so much including: The importance of de-stigmatising the menopause and instead owning this chapter of our lives for ourselves, head onThe power of self-trust and staying connected to ourselves, even when we're finding it hard to recognise ourselvesLou shares how leaning into simplicity and ease has been a key survival technique for her, plus shares a heap of other amazing tips to help you do the menopause in a you-shaped wayGUEST INFORMATION:- Find out more about Louisa and her work: www.louisahussey.com- Follow Louisa on Instagram: https://instagram.com/louisahusseyABOUT YOUR PODCAST HOST, TAMSIN WILLIAMSON (The Parenthood Coach):- Find out more about me and my coaching work - https://theparenthoodcoach.co.uk- Book in a FREE 30-minute discovery call to explore working together HERE- Follow me on Instagram - https://instagram.com/theparenthoodcoach- Join my email community - The Parenthood Retreat Hosted on Acast. This episode of Do Your Thing is another wonderful conversation from my Instagram live archives where I speak to the inspiring Polly Lavarello about how she ‘does her thing' as a co-parent to her kids. Polly is an evergreen coach, mentor and scaling strategist for audaciously ambitious and highly-skilled business owners. PLUS she's a devoted Mum to her 2 kids who she co-parents with her ex-husband, who lives abroad.Polly shares some brilliant wisdom and insight here that I'm certain will inspire and offer support, solidarity and hope to anyone navigating a family separation right now. During this conversation... >> We chatted about how Polly's overall lifestyle, sense of identity and experience of Motherhood have been profoundly impacted by her unique parenting set-up. >> Polly explains how navigating co-parenting her kids has been an understandably emotional and testing experience that she's needed to give space to evolve and grow into over time. >> Polly shares how she navigated the most challenging times to ultimately establish her own empowering, joyful and aligned way to 'do her thing' in life and motherhood both during the times she's with her kids and also when they are apart. In this episode of Do Your Thing I had the pleasure of talking to Emma Cossey all about how she ‘Does Her Thing' navigating life and parenthood with ADHD. As well as being a Mum, Emma is a coach and mentor for freelancers.PLUS Emma is also neurodivergent, diagnosed with ADHD in 2022 - and her son who is 9 also has ADHD. So therefore, everything Emma does in life, business and parenthood is designed and adapted to be as dopamine-friendly as possible to support the unique needs of both herself and her family. Through her coaching work Emma also extends her expertise to support freelancers (many of whom are neurodivergent) to develop their businesses in alignment with the way their brains work! This conversation was fascinating and inspring! Among so many other things we talked about:>> The challenges of letting go of neuro-typical advice, especially when it comes to doing motherhood with ADHD >> Emma shares how misunderstood she felt growing up without an ADHD diagnosis and how owning her ‘neurodiverse' and ADHD labels has massively enhanced her self-esteem, professional aspirations and relationship with her son >> We also finished up having a really juicy chat about the shame so commonly attached to not finding motherhood fulfilling – and how Emma's ADHD has offered her a welcome invitation to do parenthood HER way. This episode is one of my absolute favourites from my Instagram live archives where I speak to Sarah Newlands about her sobriety journey, and how her relationship with alcohol has shaped the way she does her thing in life, motherhood - and everything in between. Sarah made the big, bold and brave decision to go sober over 5.5 years ago, and went on to use her insights and experience to support others on their sobriety journey. At the time of recording she was practicing as a Sobriety Coach but has since moved on to explore another professional avenue. However she still supports and is very much connected to the alcohol-free community especially through THE DRYY APP . Sarah shares her journey with so much openness, honesty, passion and vulnerability, covering so many topics including: >> How she reached the turning point to go sober and why this lifestyle choice matters to much to her >> The profound impact sobriety has had on her mental health, life choices and experience of Motherhood >> The joys and the challenges attached to being alcohol-free >> Some invaluable tips, support and wisdom for anyone that is sober-curious or ready to consider a change in their relationship with drinking. This is such an important conversation so I hope you find this a supportive and enlightening episode full of valuable reflections. And I'm bringing you a beautiful and energising conversation that I had with Prathana Rao who is a Mum of 2 girls, a fellow coach and mentor for Mums and the proud founder of The Maverick Mum™ Movement. Through her work Prarthana empowers mothers to discover their inner strength, reignite their passions and connect with their true purpose so they can lead a truly beautiful life. And in this episode we talked all about falling truly, madly, deeply and unapologetically in love… with YOURSELF as a way of ‘doing your thing' in life and Motherhood. Self love is one of those subjects that is discussed all the time – and yet when it comes to Motherhood it can feel so very out of reach as we channel so much of our love into our kids and families. But this conversation really highlights how there IS another way to approach self-love which will mean we CAN enjoy the experience of motherhood and womanhood in the way we deserve. During this conversation we talked about…- Why loving ourselves can feel like such an uncomfortable and alien concept to us, especially as Mums- The notion of ‘filling your cup' and why we need to aspire to be ‘full of ourselves' for both our own happiness, and the future happiness of our kids- The stark difference between self care and self love which is so often confused(NB: please excuse a few recording and sound imperfections on this episode, part of which was originally recorded as an Instagram live rather than using a professional podcast setup.
