To mark International Women's Day (March 8th) Claire and Helen sat down for a chat with Amy Martin to talk about a subject that rarely gets a mention in the workplace - menstrual cycles. As Amy puts it: “We want to move away from the narrative that women are ‘funny' around their period, but for many of us it's true. Yet we're ignoring it in the workplace.”Amy is on a mission to get us all (men included) talking about how someone's menstrual cycle can affect them at different times, and how businesses are failing to get the best from their teams by ignoring the natural fluctuations people experience in mood and energy. She talks powerfully about her own struggles with burnout and the power she has gained from getting to know her own menstrual cycle.Amy is a qualified veterinary nurse, as well as a coach and mentor. Welcome back to Your Parenting Mojo! Today, we're diving into a topic that many parents may face but rarely talk about openly: navigating menopause while raising young kids. If you've been wondering how to balance parenting with the changes menopause brings, this episode is for you. In our first interview on Menstrual Cycle Awareness, we explored how menstruation impacts our lives. Today, we're thrilled to welcome back our wonderful guests, Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, for a second interview focusing on menopause. Alexandra Pope, Co-Founder of Red School and Co-Author of Wild Power and Wise Power, is a pioneer in menstruality education and awareness. With over 30 years of experience, Alexandra believes that each stage of the menstrual journey—from the first period to menopause and beyond—holds a unique power. Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer, also Co-Founder of Red School and Co-Author of Wild Power and Wise Power, is a psychotherapist and menstrual cycle educator. She is passionate about helping people understand and honor their natural rhythms, using menstrual cycle awareness as a tool for self-care and empowerment. In this interview, they'll share their insights on embracing menopause as a time of empowerment rather than something to simply endure. They introduce us to their concept of “Wild Power,” a strength that arises from understanding and honoring your body's natural rhythms through every stage of life. Why Menopause Matters in Parenting Many parents have kids a bit later in life, which means we may find ourselves dealing with perimenopause—when our body starts preparing for menopause—right when we're also raising children. This experience can bring challenges, like feeling more tired or dealing with mood changes, but it also offers us new ways to grow and find our inner strength. Alexandra and Sjanie show us how we can be more understanding and open with ourselves and others as we go through this time of change. What You'll Learn in This Episode: What is Menopause? Alexandra and Sjanie explain what menopause and perimenopause are and how these natural changes affect us physically and emotionally. The Wild Power Within: Discover how your unique energy can be a guiding force in both your personal life and in parenting. Tools to Support Yourself: Simple ways to be kinder to yourself, balance rest with activity, and embrace each phase with a sense of discovery. Reconnecting with Yourself: Learn how you can stay grounded and connected to your inner self as you navigate the ups and downs of menopause. Listen in to this powerful conversation that might just change the way you think about parenting—and about yourself. Welcome to The Soft Rebellion Podcast, I am so happy that you are here. This podcast is my expression of yearning to come home to the creative power of my female body and I am so excited to share my lived experience with you and invite you to join this movement. And in todays episode I share with you how, oh Sister, I have been on an adventure called "doing nothing and harvest it all" - yes, a big break, a big bleed was calling me home, it was so bloody hard and so fantastic!  This solo episode is about the power of rest and darkness and how we need to be in our dark spaces to meet our true power! Our bodies are cyclical, each month we experience an expansive phase and a phase of retrieving back home, an inhale phase and an exhale phase. I dismissed the second half of my cycle for many years, neglecting all desires to rest, to take a break and harvest its gifts. I kept doing, running, always chasing - and joined our common tendency of being what I call an inhale society! I still was quite successful but not very fulfilled, and the more I wondered how can I be successful and fulfilled, the more rest and breaks were calling me home … and I feel to share with you today an experience which for me is the answer to this question. I did my first big bleed and I would love to share with you the gifts I harvest in that time. And also the challenges I met.  In this conversation I share with you:  About my first BIG BLEED experience, the gifts I harvested and the challenges I met along the way. Why it is crucial to emergence into our rest as we softly rebelliously reclaim the creative power of our female body and how monthly big bleeds can be the doorways to live a successful AND fulfilled life! About the power of meeting the darkness of our womb and how the time of menstruation can the time where you are the closest to your body and your inner wisdom and intuition! This episode was...unplanned. :-) A couple of months ago I interviewed Dr. Louise Newson on the topic of menopause. Dr. Newson is a medical doctor and focused very heavily on Hormone Replacement Therapy as a treatment that everyone who menstruates should at least consider, and I knew I wanted to do an episode with someone who doesn't hold that belief as well. I found Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer of The Red School, and really appreciated their book Wise Power. As I usually do before recording an interview I read their other co-authored book Wild Power, and I realized there was a 'missing' episode on the topic of Menstrual Cycle Awareness. We can't really talk about being aware of the changes that are happening to our bodies during menopause if we don't know what has happened to our bodies throughout our menstruating years. When I read Wild Power I felt a deep sense of sadness that I was just discovering this now, as my own years of menstruation wind down - but also a deep sense of hope that I can help Carys develop a much closer relationship with her own body than I had with mine. We'll answer questions like: What phases does my body go through each month? How can I start becoming more aware of these phases through Menstrual Cycle Awareness? How can I align my activities with my energy levels, creativity, and arousal - even in the real world, which wants me to go-go-go all the time? How is my inner critic aligned with my cycle, and how can I use its knowledge to help me? How can I navigate Menstrual Cycle Awareness if I've had a difficult relationship with my periods and with fertility? I'd encourage you to listen to this episode if: You menstruate and want to better understand how menstruation affects your life You're raising a child who will menstruate and want to prepare them to feel 'at home' in their bodies You love someone who menstruates and want to be better attuned to them You're raising a child who will never menstruate, but you want them to appreciate menstruation and know how to effectively support people who menstruate. In other words, everyone will get something out of this episode! ...

Send us a Text Message.Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer and Alexandra Pope are pioneers in the emerging field of menstruality, which my spell check says isn't even a word! Basically they have created a new lexicon, along with a new approach not only to our health and wellbeing, but our creativity and leadership, and our spiritual life – all based on becoming conscious of the power of monthly cycles. They are the co-founders of Red School, and co-authors of Wild Power: discover the magic of the menstrual cycle and awaken the feminine path to power . Their menopause book Wise Power: Discover the liberating power of menopause to awaken authority, purpose and belonging came out in 2022. I tried to interview them then, sent a few emails, didn't hear anything back. And then, they wrote to me – and as you will hear, they did it right at the perfect time. Between Sjanjie and Alexandra they have more than 45 years of experience doing this kind of work, and today they teach around the world, helping women understand that from puberty to perimenopause and beyond, we are engaged in a bio-psycho-social-spiritual process of maturing… A message that is very, very different to what most of us are used to getting. The discussion covers the practical and cyclical nature of menopause, the significance of menstrual cycle awareness, and the power of self-care and setting boundaries. They also address the often-overlooked grief and the mental health challenges associated with menopause, emphasizing the need for community, support, and a broader societal understanding of this pivotal life stage. The episode concludes with a look at the potential of menopause as a time of personal and spiritual awakening, offering practical tips and discussing their upcoming course to help women navigate this profound transition.00:00 Introduction to Perimenopause and Menopause00:20 Challenges in Finding Menopause Support00:42 The Role of MidiHealth01:18 Personal Journey and Podcast Sponsorship04:54 The Impact of 'Wise Power' Book07:49 Menopause as a Transformative Experience09:57 Cycle Awareness and Menopause15:49 Navigating Menopause with Awareness26:16 The Power of Menopause37:11 Acknowledging the Struggles of Menopause38:33 The Role of Modern Medicine39:06 Cultural Crisis and Menopause40:28 The Importance of Community Support42:42 Practical Tips for Navigating Menopause46:56 Embracing the Power of 'No'47:36 Navigating Relationship Changes53:26 The Psychological and Spiritual Journey54:13 Addressing the Topic of Suicide01:01:20 The Intersection of Menopause and Global Awakening01:07:11 Redefining Menopause01:11:13 Course Information and Final ThoughtsThank you to our sponsor, Midi Health. Lindsay is a holistic menstrual cycle & feminine embodiment coach and a doula, who has supported women for over 10 years to reclaim their power over their feminine energy. And in this episode we discuss how Lindsay uses her menstrual cycle understanding to guide her energetically and intuitively through life, business and parenthood. As women, our menstrual cycle can often feel like anything but magic. Having periods can feel disruptive, inconvenient and often down right unpleasant to live with. But in this conversation, Lindsay shares how connecting to the wisdom of her cycle has supported her to feel empowered by this part of being a woman, and how her knowledge has not only helped her to regain control over her experience of life but also support other women who are struggling to do the same. And I hope this conversation will offer a fresh perspective to you too! As testimony to Alexandra and Sjanie's teachings, my 16 year old daughter is actually on board with the seasonal approach to her cycle (although not yet embracing the process fully!) and my 10 year old is no longer fearful of starting her period. For those of you who already know - just dive in! When I heard about ‘Wise Power', I was intrigued and extremely excited. And it doesn't disappoint. Alexandra suffered from endometriosis and from her pain, she began work. Together, she and Sjanie have encapsulated the potency and power of what is at work both during menstruation and, most importantly here, Menopause. The work that both these wonderful women do is extraordinary yet somehow the deep spirituality is relatable and accessible, plus the understanding and compassion that they have is profoundly human which actually makes it even more extraordinary. In this episode, we talk about how Menopause is currently portrayed in the world, the fact it has a voice, how naming the experience can make you feel seen and the importance of story telling. There is much to be celebrated about this life phase and much to be learned. We also mention mental health so if you are struggling, please, please get in touch and we can support you and point you in the right direction. You are not alone. “Menopause is this extraordinary awakening moment.” You can find Alexandra & Sjanie on Instagram @red.school & on the website https://www.redschool.net and the must read Wise Power is available now.

Menopause Magic: How to Reclaim your Power and Potential

On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Alexandra Pope.  Alexandra and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer are the co-founders of Red School, authors of the Hay House books Wild Power and the soon to be released Wise Power: Discover the Liberating Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority, Purpose and Belonging. They spent over 10,000 hours researching and refining their radical new approach to health, creativity, leadership and spiritual life. And the best bit? It's rooted in the bloody, wild, radical power of the menstrual cycle and menopause.  Their new book - Wise Power: Discover the Liberating Power of Menopause to Awaken Authority, Purpose and Belonging, is being released on 20th September 2022. In this magical episode, Alexandra and Nicole explore menopause as a powerful initiatory portal for reclaiming power and the potential of our souls, diving into the Wise Woman archetype and how it is an especially potent one for the Witch, as well as how we can reframe the cultural narrative around menopause to rediscover its hidden medicinal gifts.  Whilst this episode is framed around the menopause, it's really one full of gold for any woman to listen to, because it is really all about the power of initiation into soul.     What You'll Learn from this Episode:   The menopause is ultimately an initiation that awakens the power within us; and really, it is a descent into soul. That means it isn't all smooth-sailing because - unless you've done the deep work to connect to your Wise Woman via the power of your cycle, which makes it a smoother ride, like Alexandra had - descents to soul aren't all rosy There becomes a clear “No”, along with an opening to your deeper calling, often, at menopause - where you are being called deeper into your power - into a deeper purpose that is asking you to listen, and it becomes time to trust your body and its wisdom. Often women can experience this the same way via the initiation of the Wise Woman - who can be initiated earlier, via illness like Chronic Fatigue, or some other deeper calling - where we learn deep lessons about listening to our bodies and their deep wisdom.   Menopause can kick us in the ass as a right of passage - it demands from us that we meet oursleves - and the invitation is to allow ourselves to be touched and moved - to not be in victim to our bodies, but to make a deeper choice to make something meaningful from the sensations.  We have to trust that there's something wanting to come through us, and drop out egoic agenda and trust the work of soul It is often seen as a problem in our culture.  It can feel like we have been broken open in this initiation, but if we harness and trust our power there, it is so worth it.  It opens us to incredible magic. Practically, we have to support ourselves through this initiation by tending our nervous systems, our bodies, allowing our rage to express and celebrating ourselves and the magic that is unfolding. Ultimately, it is all a death and rebirth - as who our soul came to express as. That's the real magic of the menopause.   Resources and things that we spoke about:   Pre-order Wise Power  Red School's Website Red School's Instagram : @red.school Lara Briden - Hormone Repair Manual Susan Weed - New Menopausal Years   Invoke your Feminine Mystery   Thank you for listening, we'd love to know what comes alive for you in this week's episode, so please let us know! If the days leading up to your period have left you feeling like you were going to either die or murder someone you love, this episode is for you. Been there. I salute you. I. Feel. You. In today's episode, we'll discuss how we can begin to understand and work with our menstrual cycle's cyclical and spiritual nature for improved physical and emotional well-being. A few months ago, I discovered the practice of "Menstrual Cycle Awareness" (MCA) through the work of RedSchool founders Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer. Through this new framework and awareness of my own inner "seasons," I've felt like I can better ride the inevitable waves of life and lessen (and even eliminate) some of my most severe premenstrual symptoms (which have been so severe, I've qualified for a diagnosis of PMDD.) This episode aims to pass on much of what our mothers (and their mothers) didn't tell us about our menstrual cycles and how we can reclaim that power together as part of our unique hero's journey. **To connect with me directly, join the community on Instagram and support the podcast to keep it ad-free, visit www.backfromtheborderline.com ** Below is a summary of topics covered in this episode: ■ How societal frameworks and generational trauma have played a part in how I have perceived menstruation throughout my life■ My experience (and struggle) with hormonal birth control and IUDs seem to contribute to more severe emotional dysregulation■ Exploring the signs and symptoms of PMS and its more severe BFF “PMDD” (Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder)■ Why do the days leading up to our period fill us with “an intense darkness of the psyche and heightened anxiety” that is asking us to SLOW DOWN■ Exploring the spiritual & psychological history of menstruation■ Understanding the four phases of the menstrual cycle■ Research exploring ancient menstrual rituals & rites within other cultures ■ A breakdown of the practice of Menstrual Cycle Awareness (MCA) and our “inner seasons” (inner winter, inner spring, inner summer, and inner fall/autumn.)■ How I track my cycle and inner seasons using the Flo app (not a sponsor, just an app I enjoy!)■ How I've been using “seed cycling” for hormone balance and better emotion regulation■ The changes I've felt in my life and body since putting f these practices and beliefs to work in my own life consistently Resources mentioned in today's episode: ■ Flo Period Tracking app (I use the free version)■ Wild Power (book that explains MCA and the inner seasons)■ Woman Code by Alisa VItti (book that gave me the idea for seed cycling)■ Blog article by Rising Woman that breaks down the inner seasons one by one See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This episode is all about menstrual cycle awareness . Creating intimacy and awareness around our period. By creating awareness you are able to learn about you , and work around your cycle. You are able to communicate your wants / needs to the people around you . We are also able to set boundaries and understand what we need in every phase of our menstrual cycle . By understanding our cycle we can then learn about ourselves for example , when we need to step away and rest. By being able to recognise if we need some alone time. To then be able to support our body in the best way possible. This will then further go on to support our emotional state aswell. One way of being able to understand our cycle is by tracking it . This can be done by using a journal planner or using an app. One example is using the app called flow. By using this app you can then better understand your cravings , desires and moods . Aswell as create an optimised life around your cycle . By doing this you will see big changes and how to ask for your needs. By being able to support your body during your cycle you will better understand yourself and your hormones in a way that you will make things work better for you. By making this a practice you are then able to give the body what it naturally needs . It all takes practice and commitment whether it be taking time for yourself, slowing down , or spending time along.
