Clarke outlined how the company is nearing a critical funding milestone, having entered into exclusive negotiations with Merricks Capital for a debt financing facility of up to $75 million. She explained that this follows detailed due diligence and represents a significant advancement in the project's development. Clarke also said Andromeda is pursuing the balance of required funds through a parallel equity or investment process. The Great White Project is a high-grade kaolin operation targeting premium ceramic markets and sustainable concrete products. The company has all key approvals in place, feasibility studies completed, long-lead items ordered, and binding offtake agreements secured for its Stage 1A+ development, which involves 100,000 tonnes of kaolin production per annum. In this week's episode we're exploring an innovative project at the National Civil War Centre in Newark developing creative writing skills through art and using thinking routines in really innovative ways. The visual literacy Collect Connect Create project was developed to raise self-esteem, self-efficacy and motivation for year 10 pupils (14-15 year olds) who had struggled with disrupted learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The longer-term aim was that young people would develop the skills, knowledge and experience to raise their attainment in their English exams, having the confidence to write a “convincing and compelling” piece of fiction, using extensive and ambitious vocabulary and demonstrating the use of different language techniques.Denise explores the key features of the programme, how it worked for students and the collaboration they had with writer-in-residence, Ioney Smallhorne.. Then we focus on the thinking routines that they used in the programme and specifically the thinking routines that they created for it, such as Look List Lose and Shapescape. They also creatively adapted thinking routines that they had learned with me on my VTMO course. We talk about how the thinking routines offered tools to the students to assist them with their writing, how they helped them learn how to look as well as write, how they gave them a framework for organising their thinking and were a launchpad to writing. If you're interested or curious about incorporating thinking routines into an educational programme at your museum or using art as a prompt for creative writing, then this episode is for you. As we head into 2023, AttractionPros is proud to present the sixth annual “resolutionary” episode, which sets the stage for the year to come.  In order to look forward, we look back on several guests interviewed in the past year and highlight many of the insights shared on the podcast by some of the industry's top leaders.  As you set your goals for the year ahead, you  may find yourself looking for the best ways to achieve results, and this guidance may be found in past interviews of this podcast.  In this episode, Matt and Josh look to the advice from previous podcast guests as they share their goals for 2023. Staying on the edge Matt shared that he will strive toward continual and incremental improvement in 2023.  To achieve this, Matt referenced episode 240 where John Penney talked about the importance of staying on the edge.  Always looking at the latest practices for how results are achieved can help you make regular improvements that may otherwise have stayed flat.  Complacency leads to stagnation, and ultimately leads to decline; therefore, staying on the edge is critical to growth.   Everything is figure-out-able and learning from failure In 2022, Josh set out to learn to play piano, but felt that he hit a wall with his proficiency.  Looking to episode 252, Brad Collins taught us that everything is figure-out-able, which has motivated Josh to keep going and strive for improvement.  Part of progress, however, is failure, whether it is learning to play an instrument or running a business.  In episode 227, Craig Buster talked about the value of learning from failure that eventually leads to success.   Advocating for the next generation Matt seeks to increase his involvement with supporting professionals who are new to the industry, including young professionals and those early in their careers.  Similarly, Andrea Wiles spoke about advocating for children in episode 236, where shared the long-lasting impact that it has.  By advocating for the next generation of attractions industry professionals, Matt seeks to make an impact long after his time in the industry is up.   Thinking outside the lines and embracing crazy ideas In episode 70, Josh shared that his “big hairy audacious goal” (BHAG) was to write a book on guest experience.  Fast forward to today, and the book is expected to be published in 2023!  In order to achieve a successful book launch, Josh wants to channel his creative side, even if it may be non-traditional. To do this, Josh referenced episode 234 and episode 264, where Winston Fisher talked about thinking outside the lines and Sarah Clarke talked about thinking outside the box, respectively.  Additionally, Dr. Peter Ricci shared an amazing success story that was a result of embracing crazy ideas in episode 256.   Bringing up uncomfortable subjects Matt talked about how during one-on-one coaching sessions, oftentimes leaders may open up and share vulnerable feelings that they may not feel comfortable sharing in more public settings.  By doing so, they often lead to breakthroughs and are the catalyst for long-term improvement.  By looking to what Dr. Tonya Matthews shared in episode 237 about bringing up uncomfortable subjects, Matt wants to take this mindset and ensure that he can implement it most effectively, which, from a business standpoint, is much less scalable than large workshops and other one-to-many sessions.  In order to do this, Matt also looks to Winston Fisher's guidance on thinking outside the lines from episode 234.   Embracing family and saying yes to opportunity Josh had a disruption to his plans for 2023, and as he and his family cope with changes, he is inspired by the messages that Brian Knoebel shared in episode 244 and Chuck Wray in episode 266 on putting family first.  Additionally, Djuan Rivers shared the benefits of saying yes to opportunities in episode 260.  This can include travel, engagement with the industry, and other opportunities that otherwise would not have been possible.   If you have been inspired by our guests to achieve your goals, we would love to hear about it. Please connect with us via Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram, or send us an email.     We wish you a happy, healthy, and successful year ahead, and we look forward to bringing you many more amazing guests in 2023!

Sarah Clarke is the Director of Operations at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO.  As a native to St. Louis, Sarah holds a degree in recreation management, and throughout her career she has touched nearly every department of an operation.  The lessons learned from seeing the big picture of the business have proved valuable for Sarah at the Gateway Arch, where she has worked since 2013, and was pivotal to the arch's renovation project and pandemic reopening strategy.  In this interview, Sarah talks about putting people first, thinking outside the box, and operational leadership.    Putting People First "We need to put people first." Whether it's guests or employees, it's important to remember that everyone is a person. Humanity applies to all situations, spanning from employees dealing with personal issues to guests feeling nervous about traveling 630 feet into the sky. By prioritizing people and their humanity, the guest and employee experience is improved by creating personal experiences and making positive experiences out of any kind of negative situation.   Thinking Outside the Box "It's okay doing something a completely different way." In the midst of a multi-million dollar construction project spanning 5 years in length, the Gateway Arch team had to find a way to keep their facility open while maintaining a great guest experience. In a situation where the only constant is change, thinking of ideas beyond the standard approach proved beneficial, as they were only closed for a few months during the entire renovation.  It's okay to approach things in a unique, fresh way. Sometimes, it's even best to ignore the saying “if it ain't broke, don't fix it”. By thinking of new ideas and innovating beyond the standard, the guest and employee experience is enhanced and your attraction can vastly improve.   Operational Leadership “Bring positive energy so that when they get on the floor, we've been modeling that type of experience.” Operations are what keep attractions running, and having a strong sense of leadership with team members is important. By modeling behavior you would want your front-line team members to have, you create a mark on their behavior and indirectly create great guest experiences. Coordination and communication are also challenges in operational leadership. Many different locations have several companies involved that manage unique things within a facility, such as food and beverage or merchandise. By creating an open stream of communication and allowing for information to flow freely, barriers are broken down and your experience will experience fewer  roadblocks.    To learn more about the Gateway Arch, you can visit their website here. In this documentary series, the team behind the podcast "Our Fires" aims to humanize the struggles of Portland's Black citizens through the telling of personal histories. Inspired by the work of Instacart shoppers over the last few years, a handful of workers at Target-owned Shipt, a grocery delivery service, are beginning to organize. With the help of two key Instacart shopper-activists, Vanessa Bain and Sarah Clarke, who goes by a pseudonym, Shipt workers are now demanding better wages and the elimination of what some describe as a culture of fear. “We want to be the first responders,” Clarke tells TechCrunch.

The Nerds had the pleasure of speaking with Mike Shea, creator of the series “Miskatonic High”. The Kickstarter campaign is currently running for issue #2. "Issue #1: A small New England Berkshire town lies the prestigious Miskatonic High School. A Community Service Club goes on a field trip, and are launched back to ancient Egypt. They are nearly killed by an evil wizard and his tentacle monster. They escaped back to our century, but things will never be the same." "In issue #2, for Sarah Clarke, life at Miskatonic High had never been easy, being a poor, rural outcast. But when her friends come to help her on the family apple orchard, secrets better left unknown will be unearthed and she and her classmates will experience a terror in the dark. It's a full-sized comic, 24 pages and in color."
