Ever wondered about the appropriate way to approach gender identity, use language in a way to make people feel comfortable and even more so - how to explain and guide your kids in all of this?? We certainly have! So today we have the best person to guide us through gender identity, inclusivity and ultimately how we can raise our children to be their authentic selves in a gendered world. Our guest Adrienne Harper-Pike shares her lived experience with feeling 'othered' and as a bit of outsider in the way she was raised in a conservative bible belt, mid-west American community. She's now a mother of 5-year-old twins living in Victoria, Australia, in a queer relationship with a non-binary partner. She practices an 'aware parenting' style to raise her children and works as an ‘aware parenting' educator. In this episode she shares her wonderful and inclusive insight to language, labelling, gender identity and raising children. A fascinating and informative chat. We hope you enjoy. Communication tactics, shared calendars, meal planning, avoiding niggling conversations like money, kids routines and so much more! Hope this helps you with one or two struggles you share. We've got a sexy episode for you today everybody and we're here for it! We noticed that you were all rather interested last time we spoke with a sexologist so here we are again to unpack some more on the sex front. Let's be honest, once we go through pregnancies, having babies and raising children there's a lot to unpack. Today we talk to psychologist and sex therapist Emma St John. We chatted about sexual desire and the meaning around it, the seasons in our relationships that change the landscape of sex. Emma shares her approach to sexual well-being and how she merges psychology and sexuality to foster a holistic approach and we mostly talk about our relationships and how we navigate not just sex but connection, intimacy, communication and so much more. Sometimes we mums just need to sit down and talk about #mumlife. The good, the bad, the ups and downs, the beauty and the boredom. We love Ash for being so refreshingly honest about her experience of becoming a mum to her little boy Buddy. She shares some great family stories, her breastfeeding struggles suffering from D-MER (this is really interesting!) and we even get some glamorous reflections from her days of travelling the world and hanging with Tay Tay and Harry Styles. Quietly teary that we're bringing you our last episode of Season 2
For our last guest episode of this season we were lucky enough to catch up with world renowned surfer Mick Fanning. We had such a fantastic and open chat with Mick and loved learning all about his personal journey, including his experience witnessing the birth of his son and becoming a father for the first time, his perspective on grief the challenges he faced during an incredibly tough year in 2015, his career and so much more. He has such a life story to tell outside of surfing and shared some really honest thoughts and experiences on all of that with us. He's a very conscious person and so humble about all that he's achieved in his life, a true Aussie legend. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did. We're so pleased to be bringing you this episode today. It's full of insight, experience and personal stories of the amazing Arrente woman, Midwife and Mother Cherrisse Buzzacott. We explored the difficulties Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people training to be midwives face and the work Cherisse does to support this. We talked about the maternal care system and how this fails the needs of our Indigenous women and mothers, as well as Cherisse's personal career, pregnancy experiences and incredibly raw, honest and brave birth stories. It was a hugely insightful and informative discussion and Cherisse was the most warm and friendly person, we absolutely loved connecting with her and we think you will too. We had a great catch up with the lovely Stephanie Macintosh in today's ep. Steph was Australian raised and born (and we all actually went to high school together), she now calls LA home. Whilst living abroad she has given birth to two beautiful girls Mila and Goldie with her partner Pete. We talked to her all about motherhood and her approach to raising kids, finding her partner in la la land and falling in love. We chatted about the LA lifestyle, health and well-being, as well as her career as an actress and singer. Steph is an all round down to earth beautiful woman with so much great stuff to share. So in today's episode we talk about everything that changes once you become a parent. In fact we're feeling like completely reinvented versions of ourselves since having kids. Anyone else?!? We dive into some thoughts around identity loss or confusion in those early motherhood days, how much relationships can change and we also talk about well... sex. We did a poll on instagram and 84% of you said you have no sex life since having kids! So, it's worth a conversation right? Enjoy our lovely overshare :) For more information about today's topics and any brands, business's or products discussed as well as our Auslan interpreted video's head to www.incommonprojects.com.au Follow us + join the conversation: Instagram Facebook Twitter Thank you for listening and finding out what we all have in common. We're back with a super duper episode for you all this week and WE ARE EXCITED!! We caught up with the beautiful Elsa Pataky to talk all things motherhood, including raising twins, how you lose your identity for a hot minute after having babies as well as a heap of other good stuff like health and fitness and where Elsa gets her energy from, the swift planning to wed Chris as well as the very frightening state of our planet. We hope you enjoy the conversation, just as much as we did. Hi friends! So we did one of those question things on instagram recently asking mums out there if they experience the dreaded mum guilt. Surprisingly (but not) the results were 100% yes! Gosh! We weren't really surprised but it was a moment of understanding that there's a collective mental drain between us mums. We were also intrigued, so here we are to talk about. We chat about our experiences with it and when and how it shows up for us, why we feel we're all experiencing it and the day to day mental impact that it holds over us. So much of it is comparison, external pressures and the way we see how motherhood ‘should' be. Tune in and join the conversation, we'd love to hear your thoughts! We had such a great catch up with Bianca, a friend of ours from high school days. She so honestly and bravely opened up to us about her experiences with postnatal depression and the extra pressure she felt in that newborn stage, being a midwife herself. It was great to hear her story of how she pivoted her career from that experience towards her now thriving sleep consultancy business Plan B. She now helps other mums and bubs get that oh so precious sleep we all need! We hope you enjoyed this one as much as we did. We caught up with the wonderful Asher Keddie in this episode, she so generously shared some beautiful insights into her childhood, pregnancy and life at home with her family. We had a great conversation around creative partnerships and how she works creatively with her husband Vincent, she also shared her positive outlook on his dyslexia and how neurodiversity should be celebrated. A great conversation, we hope you enjoy! Talking all things gut instinct in today's episode and whether as mothers we're even tapping into this natural and innate ability these days. Is it a cultural failing that we don't practice it or is it a myth altogether? We talk about some personal experiences around intuitive mothering or parenting and ponder the questions together. We recently caught up with the one and only AFL football legend Brendan Fevola, a highly renowned and accoladed footballer who after some personal struggles, turned his life around and is now a favourite radio personality on the very popular morning show “Fifi, Fev & Nick”. It's pretty evident when you talk with Fev that he is a dedicated family man to his wife and 4 daughters who are clearly his pride and joy.
