We're beer nerds on a quest to find the best beers for your buck, dunk on the ones that aren’t worth buying, and rep the great local beer scene in Western NY. Grab a beer and come hang with us!
It's that time of year, that time for crappy beer. It's in the fridge, it might be old, but it's right here. Let the BRJ boys and Stromie help you through some of the choices you'll be faced in this battle of the Macro beer stars.Warning: This one starts with cursing, and doesn't get any cleaner as it goes. In fact, it's arguably the horniest Thanksgiving episode since that one the Waltons did.
Matt & McKenneth check out Beer Tree's Finding Bigfoot and Widowmaker's Devil's Staircase. Matt also checked out several Hayburners before the show, so this one gets a little wooly. Crack a beer and drink along with your favorite halloweiners, it's the Beer Reviewed Journal! Mentioned in this episode: Check out the Anomaly Film Fest, November 3-6 at the Little Theatre in Rochester, NY! Details at anomalyfilmfest.com
Here's the thing: McKenneth and Matt had a week. We talk about slasher movies, some political talk, sports talk, and occasionally we get back to discussing some pretty excellent beers. Genesee's new Brewers' Series Imperial Stout, and Lawson's Big Hoppy. We are not responsible for your wellbeing if you decide to drink every time you hear one of us say "here's the thing."
Chris Lindstrom of Food About Town joins us to talk booze from the Adirondacks. The finest water of the Adirondacks turned into some really great beer and some not-so-great whiskey. Recommended if you like Doctor Who, Love Actually, Black IPAs and the Food About Town podcast. Beers Enjoyed: Lake Placid Brewery Red Chair IPA Blue Line Brewing Black IPA Adirondack Distilling Single Malt Whiskey
It's a crossover episode with our buddies from Punches & Popcorn! We drink Cream Ale and talk about the classic Jackie Chan movie Drunken Master. This one goes all over the place. We talk about Jackie Chan, comedy in martial arts films, beer, and so much more...it's full on BRJ/PnP mayhem. Check out the Punches & Popcorn where ever you pod!
Uncle Travelin' Matt comes back from New Hampshire with beers...from New Hampshire! That's right, for the first time in BRJ history, Matt brings back beer from the place he was in. From Meredith, NH it's Twin Barns Brewery's Palmer Town NEIPA, and from Stoneface's IPA from Newington, NH. Both beers he found in a supermarket. Lesson learned: World class beer can be as close as a gas station. Also we talk a lot about the Bills. It's almost preseason, so the second half of the show is a lot of sports talk. But also logistical stuff about going to games? It's fun. You know how we do it.
Your boys are feeling it on this one, so you're getting a supersized 87 minute episode of the BRJ. Perfect to get all of your yardwork and dishwashing done, we talk about DuClaw's Blackberry Ballad, Turn West, and their questionable taste in music. We also get into a Lancaster Brewing Co. Double Chocolate Milk Stout, a grown-up choccy milk that goes down smooth. Plus the usual poopoo peepee stuff that you've come to rely on from us. Settle in, it's a tall pour of the BRJ coming at you!
The Beer Reviewed Journal is two years old! On June 11th, 2022 McKenneth and Matt spent an evening in Rochester's historic South Wedge neighborhood at the Real Beer Expo. Many, many beers were tasted and poutine was had. We even got Stromie in for a couple quick cameos. More later. Thanks as always to Ehrling for the use of their song "I Feel Good" as the intro and outro of our show. The boys make a new friend this week, as Baphomet joins us and brings two classic domestic beers, Coors Banquet and Miller High Life. There's a bunch of talk about being sick, McKenneth's digestive issues, and the exact amount of nihilism you'd expect from two hosts post-COVID infection living in the United States in 2022. But, like, with jokes. Loosen your belt, crack a beer and drink along, it's the mostly anticipated new episode of the BRJ!
Folks, this is a great day for a couple delicious barrel aged beers from Rochester's craft beer OG's, Rohrbach! The Imperial Citrus Gose is a perfect change of pace from your Corona on Cinqo de Mayo, and the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine is a really nice, figgy, malty barleywine with just a kiss of Black Button bourbon. Highly recommend you drink along with this one, but we can't be responsible for you after. The episode's only an hour long.
For science, the boys got two bottles of Miller Lite's Beer Drops, purported to make any light beer taste like Miller Lite. In an incredibly scientific episode, BRJ Labs tries: Plain Seltzer w/Beer Drops Michelob Ultra Michelob Ultra w/ Beer Drops Labatt Blue Light Labatt Blue Light w/Beer Drops Bud Light Platinum Bud Light Platinum w/Beer Drops Inevitably in a show powered by light beers, the conversation turns to early season baseball and John Bobbitt. Also, McKenneth uses the C word. Again.
Join us as we celebrate 50 stellar episodes of the BRJ! (OK. if we're honest, it's probably like 35 stellar episodes, and 15 decent ones) We enjoy: Russian River's legendary Pliny the Elder Strangebird and Steuben Brewing Company's 2022 winner for Best Collaboration beer at the NYS Craft Beer Competition, Artisanal Harvest Hermit Thrush's Party Pop Strawberry, a wild fermented kettle sour We talk about what the last two years have brought to the show, congratulate the good people at Strangebird for their win as best brewery in New York State, do an extraordinary amount of time actually talking about the beers, and celebrate the friendship that makes the BRJ what it is. Pop some bottles with us as we celebrate episode 50, and toast (not cheers) to at least 50 more. We're back, and apparently very tired. Shamus O'Shaughnessy joins us for another St. Patrick's Day episode of the BRJ. We drink Guinness, Harp, and do a half and half, because we're fancy. We also discuss the other great saint of Ireland, Phil Lynott and as usual, Matt beats up on U2. A day after this was recorded, a poem by Bono was read in the US House of Representatives that was arguably the worst thing ever put to paper. So Matt's feeling pretty vindicated today. Check us out on Social Media! @beerreviewedjournal on Instagram @beerreviewedjnl on Twitter.
CHICAGO! It's another episode of everyone's favorite amateur comedy beer podcast! Featuring Goose Island beers, another Rising Storm beer because we love them, a drive by Dieter appearance and tons more... Join us, won't you? It's the BRJ!
As you no doubt have ascertained by the title of the show, this one goes off the rails quickly and devolves into a conversation about garbage plates and general BS. Matt's exhausted, Blue's drunk, and we continue in our steady march toward being the Doughboys. We also drink a bunch of Bell's beers from the Bell's Box of Hearts. Blue wants to call it the Box of Farts, but we run a classier establishment than that. It's Cold Hearted, Two Hearted, Light Hearted and Black Hearted. All definitely worth drinking.
The most accomplished podcaster in Rochester and our good friend Chris Lindstrom joins us on the BRJ to talk about Cincinnati beers, obscure delicacies and hot Wordle tips. This one is all over the place, and it's a ton of fun. Thanks to Stromie for the beers and the use of the Food About Town studios. Stay tuned after the outro for a special bonus beer review! It's a long episode, but it'll go down real smooth. That's the BRJ guarantee.
It's a cavalcade of stars on this week's BRJ! Helping Matt and McKenneth celebrate their 100th beer on BRJ are none other than Dieter Von Flulaborgenstein and Werner Herzog! Happy New Year and enjoy, while we nurse a bad beer hangover.
It's here, the long awaited Sam Adams Holiday Pack 2 Part Spectacular. It starts bad and gets worse, but at least you get to hear Mckenneth do a pretty good David Bowie impression. Sad we're not gonna get the Jim Koch sponsorship after this one. Sam Boston Lager, Reunion IPA, and Holiday Porter are what we struggle through in this one. It's here! The boys finally tackle their favorite style, the Black IPA. An underrated throwback to the early days of craft beer, Black IPAs are having a bit of a moment this year. And we're having a moment with them too. This ep features Tree House Brewing's Raven, and Rising Storm's Nocturnal Rainbow. We loved them both, and support any other breweries digging back into the crates and bringing back the Black IPAs. Please rate, review and subscribe in your favorite podcast app! Ya bois are heading down, down, all the way down to the lovely commonwealth of Pennsylvania for today's episode; home of roadside reptile zoos, fireworks stores, bingo halls and porno emporiums! It's also home to Yeungling and Conshohocken breweries, which is why we are interested in it. Suggested Talking Points: The Anomaly Film Fest The wonders of PA Soapy Taste Ropes
Welcome to the first annual episode of Ghosts in the Graveyard, a podcast of horror fiction. In this spooky tale, a disgruntled restaurant employee learns that revenge is a dish best served with cream and sugar. From the mind of lifelong horror fan McKenneth Blue, creator and co-host of The Beer Reviewed Journal on the Lunchador Podcast Network, Ghosts in the Graveyard is a yearly horror fiction podcast. Featuring short works of horror fiction in the (jugular) vein of Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow, look for new episodes every 31st of October. Special thanks to Tim Beek for the use of his music "Ghost" as the intro and outro of the show

The boys get into Canada's finest and engage in quite a bit of that South Park poopy humor the kids seem to like so bad. We drank Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian, while reminiscing about the days when you could get over the border. Join us, won't you? It's the neighborly thing to do.
We talk wrestling with the good brothers James and Josh of the Interstate Wrestling Podcast! We debate the greatness of U2, AC/DC, and WWE films. Two things we agree on: Steve Austin's Broken Skull IPA is really tasty, and Coors Light doesn't taste like much. The heat is in the ring on this episode of the BRJ! Pop some dogs and enjoy! Why are cheddar bay biscuits the best beer pairing? All questions will be answered!
Tonight our new friend Shamus O'Shaugnessy brought us two beers to try: Resurgence's Irish Breakfast Ale and Empire Black Magic Irish Coffee Stout. Tune in for a profoundly weird episode that ends unlike any show we've had before. We've got another edition of You Give Beers A Bad Name, a bunch of our usual nonsense, and a few surprises along the way... *Potentially triggering noise at 35:31*

Food About Town and CurATE's Stromie is back with us to talk about two more Strangebird beers: Unfettered Soul and Massive Spire! Some incredibly well made beers and a bunch of fun goofs. Plus a few surprises along the way. Join us, won't you?
So excited to be talking about two beers from Rochester's newest brewery, Strangebird. They're making some very different and really excellent beers, and we can't get enough of them. Also, McKenneth still has a cough, Matt has a goatee, and nobody sounds like robots! Our good friends Dieter and Werner drop by to share some decidedly non-reinheitsgebot beers with us in a very festive episode. We attempt Kasey's Kristmas Ale from Rohrbach, and Young Lion's Cranberry Berliner, with varying results. Also, Matt realizes he has a technical issue in a kind of embarrassing way. From us at the BRJ to you, thanks for a great year, looking forward to tipping back more with you next year. Also, we dig into Imprint/Fifth Frame's Schmoojee minutes collab and talk about why Fifth Frame might be the best brewery in the city limits. Also, we talk St. Anger. Blue and Matt get in the Halloween spirit and enjoy some pumpkin beers. Or at least that's what it said on the call sheet. Instead, we both do our best Billy Corgan and try to smash some pumpkins. We go in on Southern Tier Pumking and New Belgium Atomic Pumpkin. Hear who liked what, who's left and what's left of them, all in this very SPOOOOKY episode of the BRJ! Thanks as always to Ehrling for the use of their song “https://music.apple.com/us/album/i-feel-good-single/1274618498 (I Feel Good)” as the intro and outro of our show.
