Hello to you listening in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga. As many of you know I served as a US Navy nurse taking care of children in medical and surgical pediatric hospital wards. All these years later that time holds some of my very fondest memories.Recently we noted the 5-year anniversary of the COVID epidemic when nurses all over the world put themselves on the line for the patients that came under their care.Did you know that nurses take an oath, too? It's called the Nightingale Pledge from 1893. Over time it has evolved but the spirit of the original pledge is still the same: “I solemnly pledge myself to the service of humanity and will endeavour to practise my profession with conscience and with dignity. I will maintain, by all the means in my power, the honour and noble tradition of my profession. The total health of my patients will be my first consideration.” Here's my shout out from page 103 of the Pluto Living book written by NJ Wight. You may recall how Pluto the Dog cheered us on via YouTube during the COVID times. Click HERE to re-visit.Meanwhile,“All nurses belong to a tribeA tribe with a very good vibeWith courage untoldAnd hearts made of goldTheir commitment is hard to describe.” [Pluto Living by Pluto & NJ Wight]CTA: Today send some really good vibes to nurses you know.Til next our path cross, be well, do good work, keep in touch! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" How do you pronounce Bala Cynwyd? How about Conshohocken or Lititz? What's the most difficult town in P-A to pronounce?
We began our episode with Executive Chef Michael Selser from White Dog Cafe in Glen Mills. The Glen Mills location, as well as all other White Dog Cafe locations, offer seasonally-based menus that incorporates locally-sourced produce and proteins to create their food and beverage offerings. On top of helping to support local farmers and producers, they are also very supportive of their community; every location offers numerous fundraising and awareness-raising opportunities throughout the year. And keeping up with large events, WDC offers private event spaces as well as catering. So if you are looking for an inviting venue with a guarantee of having an indulgent, delicious meal--tune in to Food Farms and Chefs to find out what WDC has to offer! We next sat down with the current Co-Owners Lara Mohr and Sam Talmadge of Pretty Tasty Cupcakes--a completely nut-free cupcake bakery. The brand originated in Cape May, NJ, and expanded into Pennsylvania because one of the original owners lived within the Conshohocken area. However, the location and consistency of menu offerings differed and the Conshohocken location was taken over by Mohr, who recently brought Talmadge on as a partner and Pastry Chef. Now, the pair operates and offers a wide selection of sweet treats, all of which are made in a peanut, tree nut, and seed-free environment. So if you are looking for a rich, decadent dessert--look no further than Pretty Tasty Cupcakes!

I am so excited about this episode with my friend Jamie Salvatore - the man who puts the "Jamie" in Jamie and the Guarded Heart. JatGH is honestly the type of band you can't help but root for. Their name is fitting yet a little deceptive, because so many of Jamie's anthemic songs wear their rock 'n' roll heart right on their sleeve for all to see. I appreciate Jamie doing this episode of the pod with me because when we got together at Andy's Diner & Pub in Conshohocken, PA (Conshy to the folks from the area), the band had just endured a heartbreaking gut punch. They had just sold out an upcoming theater show - weeks in advance, I might add - only to have the venue pull out of the event the following day, leaving several months of work, preparation, and promotion in a rubble pile, which - yes contained some valuable lessons - but also left the band wondering how to recover and ultimately bounce back. So much of what working musicians go through involves such tests of resilience in the face of these types of horror stories but not everyone is willing to talk about it so candidly, because we're conditioned to think that we have to present our lives and careers as perpetually sunny-side-up all day, every day, and that is just not how it goes. So let's get real I hope you enjoy this great conversation!~ JKF ❤

Well Opened is an Instagram account created to spread awareness and advocacy around mental health; which aligns so beautifully with why we started this podcast. What's unique about Well Opened is that Drew and David combine their individual talents to create each post; Drew doing the visual art and David writing the content. Well Opened is a perfect way of describing the Montemayor brothers. They are the most open individuals; sharing their hearts, talents, struggles, dreams, and positivity without restriction. Joe Nicolo has had an outstanding career as a multi-grammy winning producer but is also best known for founding one of the seminal independent record labels Ruffhouse located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Ruffhouse went on to sell over 100 million records. He has received a Recording Academy Heroes Award and was inducted in the Philadelphia Walk of Fame. Key Takeaways [1:47] Nick welcomes Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo and asks him about his youth in Philadelphia and his twin brother who still operates Studio 4 as well as where he got his technical skills from. [9:10] A revolution in music… Joe tells the story of how he inherited the early Philadelphia Rap scene at Studio 4 and eventually worked at engineering and/or producing a lot of the early stuff with Jive Records. [15:06] Before sharing the story of starting Ruffhouse, Working at Studio 4, and being a staff producer at Columbia Records, Joe vents on an issue that 34 years later “doesn't bother him at all.” [19:50] Joe talks about the first act he recorded for Columbia and begins listing off the impressive list of artists starting with the legendary Cypress Hill record as well as the inception of Kris Kross with Jermain Dupree and the creation of the incredible blockbuster song “Jump.” [27:00] The infamous Cypress Hill event on Saturday Night Live; Joe shares the story, expletives included! [28:30] The Fugees were found by Columbia's street team and were signed after a memorable office performance which left Wyclef in his underwear, standing on a Fender amp — this leading to 14 million copies sold for “Killing me softly.” [34:54] Balancing entrepreneurship and being a producer was easy, thanks to his partner Chris Schwartz; Joe speaks to that relationship, as well as having had early and sustained success — which makes things easier in general. [40:11] Selling Ruffhouse to Sony and getting his baptism of fire in the movie business was an interesting change for Joe but his creative heart was always in music. [43:30] Joe tells about working on Billy Joel's River of Dreams, about the nine Grammys he's won, and he shares an anecdote on meeting his mentor, Beatles' producer George Martin. [48:05] On being inducted into the Philadelphia walk of fame as well as starting a foundation called SoundMind Network and his current projects.
