Have you ever been to a Broadway show? It's amazing- whether you're drawn to the storyline, the music, the costumes- but of course the cast is pivotal. And for any major theatrical production, not only are there the performers you see on stage, but there are also countless understudies. The backup cast members who learn all the lines, and know exactly what to do in case one of the performers gets sick or can't perform. They're preparing for the worst. We think of prepping for a recession in a similar way. We don't know exactly when it's going to happen. In fact, we hope that we don't experience one anytime soon! But when it does, you're going to be able to weather that storm much better if you take the proper precautions ahead of time. And with more talk of a recession on the horizon, we figured now was a great time to discuss what you should be doing. We're going to get granular on this one and give specific steps that you should take in order to be prepared whether we enter recession territory later this year, or if it takes an entire decade! Either way, you're going to be ready. During this episode we enjoyed an Altbairisch Dunkel by Ayinger! And please help us to spread the word by letting friends and family know about How to Money! This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy is joined by Joe Lipa, who is retiring after a 40 year career in the craft beer industry, working for specialty beer importer, Merchant du Vin. He shares the stories behind the efforts to introduce Americans to four iconic breweries: Samula Smith, Lindemans, Ayinger, and Orval Trappist. Along for the ride are Robert Hodson from Sheehan Family Companies and Ben Keene, a writer for Beer Advocate. When Joe helped launch Samuel Smith in the US, it was twice the price of the most expensive beer on the market. He talks about how he worked to educate consumers, starting with sales to high end restaurants, before these beers made their way into wine shops and then ultimately grocery stores. Learn about why these beers are best in class and why Merchant du Vin has focused on sustaining their relationship with centuries old family breweries rather than expanding. They are often roused during pouring, and when yeast is present, they will have a yeasty flavor and a fuller mouthfeel.-ABV: 4.8%-5.4%-Glassware: Weizen GlassExampleUrweisse - Ayinger - Aying,GermanyABV 5.8 %Notes: “The union of wheaty freshness and dark malt often produces a fullness of taste and complexity”, explains the world-famous English beer commentator Michael Jackson. This also applies to the Ayinger Urweisse, which is a strong amber-colored, yeast cloudy wheat beer. The beer is strong with the first taste and malty in aroma. The top-fermented, yeasty taste sensation is unmistakable. This beer is rich in sparkle and has just a touch of a special bitter quality.
