Tonight, we goof about KRAMPUS (2015) w/ Focal Banger by The Alchemist! "While the holiday season represents the most magical time of year, ancient European folklore warns of Krampus, a horned beast who punishes naughty children at Christmastime. When dysfunctional family squabbling causes young Max (Emjay Anthony) to lose his festive spirit, it unleashes the wrath of the fearsome demon. As Krampus lays siege to the Engel home, mom (Toni Collette), pop (Adam Scott), sister (Stefania LaVie Owen) and brother must band together to save one another from a monstrous fate." With great power comes great responsibility. Jen and John Kimmich have that power, earned through the creation of their iconic Alchemist Brewery and equally as iconic Heady Topper and Focal Banger beers. More importantly, the pair very much understand and embrace that responsibility. This has never been just about brewing for the Kimmichs, even though John rose to fame for literally creating hazy IPA as a style. Since opening as a 60 seat pub in 2003, the Alchemist has become a brewery known worldwide for not only white whale beers, but also for their multi-platform focus on sustainability. A certified B Corp, the Alchemist has become a gold standard. Jen and John Kimmich have been at the forefront of what the craft beer industry is and what it could and SHOULD be. Brought to you by The Real Voice - Mel Allen. Providing voice over for commercials, podcasts, explainer videos, and more. Samples and demos at https://therealvoice.com Dogfish Head has another spirits release out. The 90-proof “Alternate Takes Volume 3: Whiskey Finished in Apple Brandy & Apple Cider Barrels” is distilled from 100% pale malt and finished for 36-plus months in freshly-emptied Dogfish Head American oak apple brandy barrels and French oak apple cider barrels from Angry Orchard (so definitely some of that sharing we expected with the Boston Beer merger). It's on shelves in Delaware, Maryland, and DC. It's headed to New Jersey and Washington. Later this spring you can also expect to find them on shelves across New York. As this one works its way onto shelves, more Dogfish head spirits are expected to go into distribution too. https://craftspiritsmag.com/2022/02/24/dogfish-head-debuts-new-whiskey-expands-distribution-of-full-proof-spirits-to-new-york/ Wine's portrayal on TV is changing - which is a good thing considering today's wine drinkers, makers, and influencers are a pretty diverse group of individuals. The wine space is evolving in pop culture too on shows like; NBC's “Grand Crew,” Hulu's “Promised Land,” and OWN's “The Kings of Napa”. The shows may not be a great place to go for wine education and information - but hey - you take a W where you can. The shows are all running now and hopefully if nothing else - it'll be good to see people making and enjoying wine, perhaps fighting and getting all dramatic over it too, who look a lot more like today's audience. https://vinepair.com/articles/wine-tv-shows-diversity-inclusion/ One thing's for sure - Hill Farmstead's Edward is popular in Vermont - but there are other beers here too. Don't forget that this is the region that also created The Alchemist's Heady Topper (though I prefer Focal Banger more - ssshhhhh). It's tough living in a place that's been called the home of the best beers in the world. OK, only when I travel to a place with a lot of less than stellar beers (which thankfully is becoming harder). Lots of places I've made regular stops at crown Shaun Hill and company as the King of the land though including feedback from Three Penny Taproom, Kingdom Taproom, Blackback Pub (try their house nachos - they will blow you away), and the Worthy group (made up of Worthy Burger, Worthy Kitchen, and Worthy Burger Too). https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/life/2022/02/23/vermont-beer-bars-most-popular-brews-vt/9175220002/ Next Time: More Boozebuddy Update: Another Round interviews have been scheduled, so the lull between episodes will, hopefully, be short-lived! For this Episode we literally go back to where it all started and the man himself, Dan Blakeslee. Dan is responsible for two of the most iconic labels in craft beer and some of the early inspirations for the podcast and project - The Alchemist's Heady Topper and Focal Banger. Dan has been an active part of our evolution and growth and it means a lot to us. From Episode 1 to appearing at two of our events. Summer '17 at Kehler Liddell Gallery in New Haven, CT and Hubbub in Bridgton Maine. Not only is he a great artist and human, he's a storyteller and musician. He performed at both events and even brings some music to this episode. He's one of the good guys and a beautiful soul. Dan recently lost his brother and we want to dedicate this episode to him and his memory. I wish I could have given him a hug and let him know he's in our hearts. A great episode that puts it all in perspective to see how far we have come together.

Drink Of The Week Today on the sixth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Heady Topper (8%) By The Alchemist Brewery. According to The Alchemist, "The beer is meant to give you wave after wave of hoppy goodness on your palate". How We Rated Heady Topper Brew Advocates rating is 100/100 and considers Heady Topper a “world class” beer.  Heady Topper, similar to Focal Banger is another heavily coveted beer in our neck of the woods so once we got our hands on it we had to do an episode with it! Rob’s Rating: 8.1/10 Kev’s Rating: 7.6/10 Heady Topper Show Notes The Bois missed a week of consistency due to COVID-19 but we bounce back with a "world class" beer. After the ratings we start discussing cooking shows such as "Beat Bobby Flay" and "Cutthroat Kitchen". After we go into the importance of the service in a restaurant and the pros and cons of trying new dishes. Then, somehow Kev had a random thought about not paying attention to classes that would teach you how to use important programs such as Excel. Following that we ended up talking about hazing in fraternities and peculiar questions Rob would ask kids attempting to join. Looking For More? Drink Of The Week Today on the fifth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Focal Banger By The Alchemist Brewery. According to The Alchemist, "They strive to offer the best hop experience that they can". The beer is brewed with mosaic and citra hops, contains 7% ABV. How We Rated Focal Banger Brew Advocates rating is 100/100 and considers Focal Banger a "world class" beer. Focal Banger is a heavily coveted beer in the New England area and is actually hard to come by. We decided that although we would not travel across state lines to pick up the beer, if the opportunity presents itself we would most definitely purchase again. (Even though Kev would consider other options first). Rob's Rating: 8.9/10 Kev's Rating: 7.8/10 Focal Banger Show Notes After rating Focal Banger, we started discussing "body shaming" via the internet due to Billie Eilish trending on twitter. The fact that whatever you post no matter who you are there will always be someone to comment negatively. No matter how famous you are, you will be scrutinized. Following that we segue into random ads that appear on our devices and social media sites almost immediately after we engage in some kind of activity with the product. Somewhat after that we somehow get to discussing the proper order, (as a guy) on washing yourself in the shower. However, we couldn't end this episode without talking about our "once in a lifetime" experience with an Uber driver. Looking For More? If you like this episode, you can check out episode 4 here. Today's episode is an interview with Jimmy Hatherley, founder of Unity Brewing Co in Southampton. Jimmy is a good friend of mine, and a fantastic brewer. He established his brewery in 2016, influenced by modern, hoppy beers such as Russian River's Pliny the Elder and Focal Banger from Vermont's The Alchemist. His other influence is closer to home, however: Belgium. He's just as interested in perfecting his crisp, nuanced saisons as he is his intensely hopped IPAs.The other thing that interests Jimmy is building his business—but not in the way you might think. He doesn't feel the need to grow his business to any greater size than he operates at already. Instead he wants to grow slowly, and laterally, investing in his people and a sustainable, good quality of life for his family, and his employees families. It's a noble aim, and one that for me is at the core of independent brewing here in the United Kingdom.Stick around after the interview is done as I'll be reading another feature from our site. This time it's a piece from Eoghan Walsh, who headed to Rwanda in search of authenticity, and instead went on a journey of self discovery. Host: Matthew CurtisGuest: Jimmy Hatherley — Unity Brewing Co. Read more at www.pelliclemag.comSupport our podcast at patreon.com/pelliclemag

Happy Monday, everybody! This week, Ryan and Alex are trying two beers! Heady Topper and Focal Banger, both from The Alchemist. The Alchemist is a family run brewery specializing in fresh, unfiltered IPAs. John and Jen Kimmich originally opened The Alchemist as a 60 seat brew pub in the village of Waterbury in 2003. After eight years of success and growing popularity, they decided to open The Alchemist Cannery, a 15 barrel brewery and canning line built for the production of their flagship IPA, Heady Topper. Today, they move all their beer weekly in a concerted effort to provide the freshest, hoppiest packaged IPAs on the market. Heady Topper is brewed only in Waterbury, Vermont and is distributed throughout the state. Their Waterbury brewery is not open to the public, however, they distribute a portion of Heady Topper to their Stowe brewery and Visitor’s Center for retail sales and tasting. They opened the state of the art Stowe facility in 2016, designed to be as low impact as possible while providing them with enough space to serve their community and the growing number of beer tourists to Vermont. Their second year round beer, Focal Banger, is brewed in Stowe, as well as seasonal beers that rotate throughout the year. Heady Topper is a Double IPA with a proprietary blend of six hops – each imparting its own unique flavor and aroma. There’s just enough malt to give this beer some backbone, but not enough to take the hops away from the center stage. Focal Banger is an IPA with a crisp and clean British malt character, that utilizes Citra and Mosaic hops. This week on FDB - we invent Backstairs, learn how far a convict will go for Insta-fame, Alex discovers what lemurs are, and more! Now please kick back, and enjoy another sit down with Friends Drink Beer. Today, we move all of our beer weekly in a concerted effort to provide the freshest, hoppiest packaged IPA on the market. Heady Topper is brewed only in Waterbury, Vermont and is distributed within a 25 mile radius. Our Waterbury brewery is not open to the public. After the Equifax data breach where 148 million people’s personal information was compromised, it's especially easy to see how vulnerable we are as consumers. So now more than ever, is the time to freeze your credit! A new federal law has made it completely free to freeze and thaw your credit, so you don't have any more excuses. In this episode we talk about why this is so important, we cover what a freeze does (and what it doesn't do), and then we tell you exactly how to do it. Seriously it's so incredibly easy that it shouldn't take you more than about 5 minutes from start to finish! And at the beginning of this episode we enjoyed a Focal Banger by the Alchemist which you can find and learn all about on Untappd. If that title seems aggressive, here are some thoughts:  *Deal with it *Did you see this movie? Yea, aggressive doesn’t cover half of it *I mean come on this is some solid wordplay Sorry folks, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s all take a deep breath, because that movie was an EXPERIENCE. That’s probably the best way to put: you don’t watch this movie, you experience it. It’s as intense as any movie out there; visually, audibly, emotionally, viscerally. And that beer? Well, it’s not all those things, but it’s pretty damn delicious. We appreciate what Alchemist has done with Heady Topper, and again here with Focal Banger. This movie is a trip, this beer is excellent, and we think the newest Flix & a Six was too, only on The Spinchoon!

In this episode, Dave interviews John Kimmich, the co-owner and head brewer of Alchemist Beer. He’s also the maker of the Heady Topper, also know as the “Heady,” a beer with an international reputation which is ranked #5 Beer in the World. John discusses the journey his brewery and pub have taken—from brewing 400 barrels a year to 18,000—with no compromise on quality and zero marketing efforts. The reputation of the beer alone and John and Jen’s commitment to quality is what fuels their success. Their motivation? Tune in to find out how these two are redefining what it means to run a “lifestyle business” that not only serves them, but their greater community. Time Stamped Show Notes: 00:01 – Entrepreneurs Organization proudly presents Virtual Learning Podcast 00:33 – Dave welcomes John Kimmich to the show 00:52 – John is co-owner and head brewer of Alchemist Beer 01:40 – He started his brewery with his wife in Vermont 01:55 – They limit the production of the beer so that the beer sells out fast 02:49 – “It’s not an intentional limiting of production” 03:14 – The reality is, for the 8 years we’ve had the pub, the most number of beer barrels made were 400 – 28-35 of which were Heady Topper 03:33 – They now produce 9000 barrels of Heady Topper 03:50 – From 28 to 9000 barrels is an amazing leap for John and his wife, Jen 04:05 – Since the opening of their new brewery, they are able to produce a total of 18,000 barrels in a year – 50% of which are Heady Toppers 04:57 – When the pub closed in 2011 because of Hurricane Irene, the brewery became their only source of income 05:43 – They wanted to be able to offer people beer outside of the pub 06:16 – The pub was destroyed on a Sunday night and by Tuesday morning, they canned the first Heady Topper 06:30 – “The timing of it really saved us...we would have been financially ruined” 06:57 – For years, John paid flood insurance but their insurance company never told them that anything in the basement wouldn’t be covered by the policy 07:13 – “We lost everything” 07:20 – The proceeds from the production brewery became the source of funds to rebuild the pub 07:27 – The pub was rebuilt, but they were unable to put the brewery back into the basement – they leased out the building and focused on the production 07:48 – Within the first month, they went from 1,500 to 3,000 barrels 08:25 – Over the course of 6-8 months, they were able to do up to 9,000 barrels 09:20 – They had zero marketing – all came from word of mouth 09:53 – Quality was what made their beer stand out 10:20 – John has been making Heady Toppers since 2004 10:46 – In 2011, unavailability was the
