Let's talk privatization! The de-privatization of the early Christians, the privatizing tendencies of mainstream Christian theologies and praxis, and the contemporary privatization of what could be our shared, social goods. ALSO PSA: I have SIX WHOLE episodes lined up where Skubala Paul takes a back seat to Comrade Paul and it'll be primary text readings and analysis! Since Christian witness gets told to take a hike I wanna keep this interesting. I will pair a wine or a spirit or a beer with each text accordingly, do a somm to ya on it and drink it as we go through the reading. Keep it saucy and light. And best part about this is that there is no Paywall for this bonus content, as commodifying community aid goes absolutely against the ethos of the pod and its just not right! I was reminded by a comrade to keep politics at the forefront and keep it free for the masses. So there we go. But I need your help in selecting which text we read first! 1. "Mass Work" a document written for cadre members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) written during a rectification campaign some time in the 90's. Find the text here: https://massline.info/ 2. "Socialism: Utopian and Scientific" by Friedrich Engles 3. "Liberal Feminism" by Anhurada Ghandy, a chapter from Ghandy's work, "Philosophical Trends in the Feminist Movement" 4. "Wage Labour and Capital" by Karl Marx 5. Yooo we passed the 20th anniversary of 9/11. To commemorate this religiouys holiday  the worship leader and failed Republican politician S*an F*ucht, of Bethel Church fame, threw an event at the national mall in DC. The event was part of his “let us w*rship” tour that has been taking place around the country to protest COVID restrictions on churches. Notably, D*nald Tr*mp joined the rally through a pretty bizarre pre-recorded speech. You might be wondering, “who cares?” Good question. As people who are now very outside evangelicalism, it's easy to just ignore these folks, but I think there are some reasons to pay attention despite how cringy it all is. F*ucht is probably one of the more visible figures in evangelicalism and is clearly interested in conservative politics. He had a failed congressional run in California. He even took a trip to the White House to lay hands on and pray for D*nald Tr*mp before his first impeachment. Given all of that, we thought it'd be good to spend the episode talking about F*ucht and the current state of Christofascism. This episode is chaotic. Um Music by Christian Scott Atunde Adujah. The two songs are called Huntress (for Cara) and Songs She Never Heard. "In the Church's preaching of the Gospel message of justice and liberation, a denunciation of existing injustices is necessarily implied. What we are concerned with here is not this implicit denunciation, but the explicit, direct denunciation of an injustice and those responsible for it. This kind of denunciation is sometimes necessary. There are evident injustices in the face of which the Church cannot remain silent, cannot take up a neutral posture. For in some parts of the world today, to be silent, to be neutral, is in effect, even if not in intention, to be on the side of the rich and powerful against the poor and oppressed." --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/skubalacast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/skubalacast/support

Good Friday Episode. Nothing about this ep is actually Good Friday themed and if there was, I would like to decline from making those connection for both of our sakes. We talk about the persecution reverse revenge fantasy and martyr fetish that informs so much of the conservative evangelical christian milieu and discover just how Fox New's got its start as a propaganda machine. This is a re-recording because I lost the first recording of episode 8. Starting from this point, the next three episodes were chaos, i recorded them out of order because i kept saving over the previous episodes. Anyway, three back to back skubalacasts for us all. God bless us everyone, because today is the day we remind ourselves that Jesus died. Awwww shit. We're talking about purity culture. The Character of Benjos curse a lot and talks about the cringe destruction that Evangelix culture wreaks on the lives of young impressionable baby Christians. What's new? Seriously though, this isn't an episode trying to explain the theological implications of Purity culture or to refute it or to redeem it. Like all the other episodes in this blasted season, we are just casting it in the frame of the larger Christian evangelicene. We hone in specifically on how purity culture claims to aid in the control of sexual sin within the church but rather is another way the evangelical experiences and enjoys the cycle of turmoil of failure, chosenness, failure, and choseness again. This is the Marvel x Skubala podcast where I cut out the part where I say "Thanos should have killed us all" in regards to how the church put out so much shitty material in response to last summer and I ramble about "Thanos Truck" for 5 minutes. I cut it out and mentioned it here to honour the sacrifice this episode took to remain coherent. This is where the gang makes sense of the Voltron-ass homunculus of the Religious Right and the precursor to the Modern Evangelical via the grift of Abortion. *** This. Is. Not. A. Treatment. Of. Any. Particular. Stance. On. Abortion.*** This is just me trying to help y'all nubs connect the dot between the loss of viability of the segregated private school as fuel for the resonance machine and the 2 year paradigm shift that Reagan oversaw that ushered in the sort of Evangelix Am*rican Public that would evolve into the Christo-fascist Trumpists and Bidenites of teens and the twenties. We call out particular schmucks like J*rry F*lwell Sr & Jr as well as people like Schaeffer and Lahaye. I really hope at this point we're getting the point. This episode is a lot of dates. My hunch is that Creationism is still alive and well in y'all which is fine. But it's alright. We can read science and not get our asses smote. But literally some of y'all wont watch Game of Thrones because of sex. Y'all just won't admit y'all sexually frustrated and soft core porn makes you uncomfortably horny. Eat a snickers, ya nasty. Y'all still trying to blame it on Game of Thrones for having "gratuitous sex" and porn but y'all we've been living with purity culture for a time now and it hasn't lessened the occurrence of sex scandal and deep abuse in the church in the highest offices.
