Ronald Gruner talks about his fascinating new book COVID Wars: America's Struggle Over Public Health and Personal Freedom," which examines the painful divide in the American public over the COVID-19 pandemic and our national response to it. Was im Leben zählt – mit Stephan Schäfer Der ehemalige RTL Chef spricht darüber, was im Leben wirklich zählt. In dieser Folge philosophieren wir darüber, was im Leben wirklich zählt. Die Folge ist für mich eine sehr besondere, denn ich kenne meinen Gast gefühlt mein ganzes Leben. Wir haben nämlich 1993 zusammen in Witten in NRW Abitur gemacht. Und obwohl wir als junge Menschen so viel zusammen erlebt haben, uns sehr mochten und wichtig füreinander waren, haben wir uns in den folgenden 30 Jahren komplett aus den Augen verloren. Weil etwas dazwischenkam, was im Leben vieler Menschen den höchsten Stellenwert hat: und das ist die Arbeit. Ich ging in den Süden nach München, er in den Norden nach Hamburg. Nur aus der Ferne hab ich in den nächsten drei Jahrzehnten seinen beeindruckenden Werdegang bestaunt. In dieser Zeit kannte seine Karriere für mich gefühlt nur eine Richtung: und zwar steil bergauf. Sie begann in den 1990ern als junger Absolvent der Axel Springer Schule und fand 2022 vorerst ein jähes Ende- als CEO an der Spitze von RTL Deutschland- vermutlich eine der machtvollsten Positionen in der deutschen Medienlandschaft. Dazwischen leitete er erfolgreich viele renommierte Magazine wie die Brigitte, Schöner Wohnen, Essen & Trinken, entwickelte die Zeitschriften BARBARA und GUIDO rund um Barbara Schöneberger und Guido Maria Kretschmer, saß im Vorstand von Gruner & Jahr und wurde 2011 zum Kress Kopf des Jahres gewählt. Heute ist sein Leben leise geworden. Kleiner. Vielleicht echter. Das Aus bei RTL führte einen Wandel herbei, im Außen, aber vor allem im Innern. Die letzten zwei Jahre schenkten ihm viele wertvolle, aber auch schmerzhafte Erkenntnisse über sich und sein Leben. Erkenntnisse, die er nicht nur in seinem ersten Roman „25 letzte Sommer“ verarbeitet hat, sondern heute auch mit uns teilt.

Today I talked to Wolf Gruner about his new book Resisters: How Ordinary Jews Fought Persecution in Hitler's Germany (Yale UP, 2023). Drawing on twelve years of research in dozens of archives in Austria, Germany, Israel, and the United States, this book tells the story of five Jewish people--a merchant, a homemaker, a real estate broker, and two teenagers--who bravely resisted persecution and defended themselves in Nazi Germany. These stories have not been told until now, and each case is one of many, as Gruner shows by resurfacing similar accounts of Jewish refusal to accept persecution and violence in Germany and Austria between 1933 and 1943, upending the notion of passive Jews and expanding the concept of resistance. Each individual described here represents a category of resistance: written opposition, oral protest, contesting Nazi propaganda, defiance of anti-Jewish laws and measures, and self-defense against physical attacks. Many of these courageous acts resulted in the resisters being prosecuted and put on trial, and often receiving harsh punishments, while some led to acquittal by courts and others to changes in Nazi policies. Taken together, these accounts reframe our understanding of German Jewish attitudes during the Holocaust, while also providing an astonishing examination of the complex Nazi reactions to the many individual acts of Jewish resistance. Jason's end goal is figuring out how to get a seller to call him. He picks an area that makes sense, has $10 million in volume trailing 10 months, a turnover of at least 6%, that he wants to work in, and that he gets excited about.  What does the typical monthly output look like? The biggest thing that Jason has committed to is the first of every month he sends out a bright yellow market report for that area. The physical component of sending mail to someone is a huge opportunity and can set you apart.  Jason also films a market report and posts them to his social media each month.  What would Jason have done differently? On today's episode of The Real Estate Sales Podcast, Jimmy talks with Jason Gruner, a luxury home agent from Nashville, about how to generate more luxury listings through video storytelling.  What does Jason do? Jason has found that every home is unique, especially luxury listings. Jason tells that home's unique story to the buyers through long-form, agent-on-camera, video.  He films a 10 to 15-minute walk-through of your home and tells the personal stories that make this home special.  What is the framework of Jason's videos? There has to be a great hook within the first five seconds and then something to keep them watching till the end of the video.  He tries to imagine he is showing the house to one of his friends. He tells the personal stories of the house and hits the emotional side of things.  How does Jason distribute the video? They post long-form videos on Facebook, Youtube, and LinkedIn. They spend the majority of their budget on Youtube because of the ability to easily target active homebuyers.  On Facebook, they focus on people within a specific location who have recently viewed real estate websites. LinkedIn is more expensive than Youtube and Facebook, so Jason focuses on organic traffic.  What do the results look like? Jason pays 5 to 10 cents per view. He sees it as a no-brainer because the views are so cheap and sellers are going to be expecting this for their homes.  How does Jason pitch to sellers?  He has a 20-page guide of his specific “Tell Your Story” method. He takes 1% of the list price and spends it on marketing to sell the home.  How does Jason film short-form videos? They film short-form on an iPhone in vertical format. They pick 15 spots in the house and film a video in each.  A 7 to 59-second video in each spot tells a story, then the CTA is directing people to the full video.  They post the videos on five platforms; Facebook reels, Instagram reels, Tiktok, LinkedIn, and Youtube shorts.  Jason recommends putting good captions on the video because lots of people watch without sound.  Connect with Jason on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and his website.  Do you have a video or content idea perfect for your business?
