This week we welcome Comedian Janelle Niles who tells us about her extraordinary journey from training to be a massage therapist during a pandemic, to becoming a comedy powerhouse in the indigenous comedy circuit in Canada. We chat about the new bounty of indigenous stories in modern television and film and how those voices need to be heard after being silenced for so long. We also discuss why celebrities might not be the best people to run an actual country and how renaming problematic terms by people who are unaffected by the cause they are championing might not always be a positive advancement. Janelle sprinkles love on My Name is Earl and Richard Jennings while pouring disdain over 'The Idol', the ill-advised reality TV show featuring The Weeknd. Please Follow us on Social Media (links below):All music written and performed in this podcast by Steve Otis Gunn. Please buy my book 'You Shot My Dog and I Love You' available in all good book shops, online and directly.Podcast Socials:Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tvtimespodInsta: https://www.instagram.com/tvtimespodYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@tvtimespodTwitter: https://twitter.com/tvtimespodSteve's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/steveotisgunnTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/steveotisgunnFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/steveotisgunn.antisocialJanelle's SocialsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/janelle.nilesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@firstraysofthesunwomanFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/Niles.janelleProduced by Steve Otis Gunn for Jilted Maggotwww.jiltedmaggot.com Hosted on Acast. Jocelyn's coming into her own as she starts to turn the power into her favor... although it seems that she may have already have had a plan from the beginning. More interesting is the tool she uses to gain and hold onto that position... through manipulation... and nudity. Could we have gone without it? Probably, yes, absolutely. Not profound enough of a storyline for us to get on board with the claimed necessary use of the nude female form, and that's a lot coming from a couple of hoes. In this episode we're discussing the series finale of the controversial series, The Idol. We cover Jocelyn's success in regard to her, now apparent, psychotic tactics, as well as the assists around her making those wins possible, like her Vanity Fair journalist connection and management team putting her back onto her platform.

From the return of "The Full Monty" 25 years later that hits a political message, to a look at the controversial series "The Idol" with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp that's being slammed for its graphic sexual content, TV critic Dheepthika Laurent speaks to Eve Jackson about what's on the small box this month. Also featured: the sixth season of "Black Mirror" with Salma Hayek, Josh Hartnett and "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul; the critically acclaimed "The Bear"; as well as "Bloodhounds", a David-meets-Goliath-type Korean drama.
Discussing episode 3 of The Idol and we are covering a lot of serious topics - trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and verbal abuse. The progression of which a person is victimized can be hard to interpret when the abuser is tactful in repackaging negatives into positives - we are seeing these signs with Tedros and Jocelyn, especially in the style of slow burn - the abuse isn't clear cut and takes time and trust to develop. Tedros' abuse is framed in “motivation” and “inspiration” - do you have to push through the pain to make meaningful and substantial art?

Brett & Dani reconvene for another pop-culture heavy podcast in the absence of any solid Big Brother or Survivor news. They revisit HBO's The Idol and continue their praise of it, despite The Weeknd's confusing presence and general online-hate for the show. Danielle watched The Waterboy (1998) recently and a discussion about early-era Adam Sandler movies ensues. Both Brett & Dani watched select episodes of Black Mirror season 6 on Netflix and think it's possibly time to put the anthology season to bed if there's nothing serious for Charlie Brooker to explore anymore. Wrapping up the show, they look into this weekend's two huge box office failures in The Flash and Elemental. Are people not seeing movies anymore or are they just not seeing bad ones? Darian & Liz talk about the premiere of the highly-controversial new HBO series, 'The Idol'. Does The Weeknd stick the landing in his first major acting role? Does Sam Levinson have another hit similar to 'Euphoria'? All that and more in the second episode of The Cinema Wave Podcast.
Hello angels. Today we're back with the largely anticipated new series on Max, 'The Idol'. We're are introduced to pop-star Jocelyn and her story of stardom - potentially the rise and fall as she meet Tedros, a slum-lord meets 80s disco pimp-esque character.Sex, drugs, and rock & roll are on the docket of discussion in this pilot as well as: Sam Levinson's distinct cinematography and storytelling style (especially in relation to 'Euphoria'), what The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) brings to the table as a character, writer & producer, and how this enigmatic management cast gave (and will continue to give) the much-needed comedic relief for the rest of the season/series.We are true lovers of tv, film, pop culture, and especially music so this show has and will continue to be very fun for us to deep-dive and discuss.
