Join Lisa and Laura for our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our third name, Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. The word “rapha” often refers to physical healing in Scripture, but it has a more expansive meaning, too, involving the entire person. Jehovah Rapha doesn't just heal the body. He heals the mind and soul. In a world desperate for healing, this is an episode you do not want to miss. Grab your Bible and invite a friend to listen. We all need Jehovah Rapha! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Exodus 15:26: If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Exodus 3:13–14: Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, ‘What is his name?' what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” Psalm 22:14–15: I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. Exodus 15:22–27 Romans 8:22: We know that all creation has been groaning with labor pains together until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for the adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 5:5: Hope does not disappoint us. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Are you in the place between devastated hope and deliverance? Bring your heart to Jehovah Rapha and ask, what does He want to reveal and what He is longing to heal? Is it a physical illness? Sin? Trauma? Childhood wound? Unforgiveness? Show mentions. Special guests: We are kicking off Holy Week with Fr. John Riccardo and Mary Guilfoyle from ACTS XXIX. This Lent, Lisa and Laura explore Passionate Discipleship, a nine-week Lenten Bible study series. In these powerful episodes, they'll unpack Paul's wisdom to his closest friend, Timothy, and reflect on how we can apply it to our lives today. As we grow in personal holiness, we will boldly step into our call as true disciples by reaching out to the next generation and passing on all that we've learned. In today's episode, they kick off Holy Week by welcoming two special guests to discuss Lesson 6, Alert to Your Surroundings: Fr. John Riccardo and Mary Guilfoyle from ACTS XXIX. They talk all things prayer, identity, and Scripture. This episode is an absolute must-listen! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:1–7: But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Psalm 139:1–3: O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Mark 10:17–31: The Rich Man Luke 15:11–32: The Parable of the Prodigal and His Brother Isaiah 43:1,4: But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine … Because you are precious in my eyes and honored, and I love you. Ecclesiastes 1:9: What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Go to prayer and ask the Lord these two questions: By what name do You call me? What is the one thing that keeps me from wholeheartedly following You? Show mentions. Let Me Be Frank | Bishop Frank Caggiano's Podcast | Diocese of Bridgeport, CT
Pope St John Paul II wrote that hearing the kerygma proclaimed should result in a person being “overwhelmed and brought to the decision to entrust himself to Jesus Christ by faith”. Fr John Riccardo wonders… have you been “overwhelmed” by the Gospel? Have made a decision to “entrust,” your whole life to Jesus? Bishop Frank Caggiano talks to Fr John Riccardo, founder of Acts XXIX & the Rescue Project, on this episode of Let Me Be Frank. This is an incredibly insightful conversation with concrete ideas about how to bring healing and transformation to ourselves and to the organizations/parishes/dioceses we are a part of.
Today's guest is Fr. John Riccardo, the executive director for ACTS XXIX, which ministers to & equips priests & lay leaders. Do you find it hard to maintain enthusiasm for evangelization? You're not alone. Many of us in ministry face moments of profound fatigue and discouragement. But let me share something with you: the key to reigniting that passion lies in rediscovering the love and hope gifted by God which first called us to this mission. Today, I bring you the wisdom of Fr. John Riccardo, founder of Acts XXIX (https://www.actsxxix.org/) and The Rescue Project (https://rescueproject.us/). He discusses how to: * Create intimate environments where the gospel can come alive. * Turn prayer into more than an agenda item, listening for God's direction. * Build a family out of those on mission with you * Restore hope, unity, and zeal to tired laborers in the vineyard Yes, the challenges are real, but so is the power of God's plan. Lean into that, and you'll find your enthusiasm renewed and your mission reinvigorated. Do you ever feel imprisoned by sin? Throughout the Old Testament, the Israelites underwent captivity on multiple occasions, enduring a 70-year exile. In an insightful conversation, Fr. John Riccardo joins Jeff Cavins to delve into this period of Exile as depicted in the Bible Timeline. Beyond merely exploring historical events, they draw parallels to contemporary experiences of feeling imprisoned or alienated. Fr. Riccardo argues that individuals today face something even more insidious than exile—being held captive by the power of sin. Fr. Riccardo and Jeff dissect the root causes underlying this spiritual captivity and offer pathways toward liberation from sin's grasp. Yes, God has a unique mission for all of us and, yes, He is in control. So does that mean leaders in His Church should not plan? No. In this episode, Nick and Rick discuss the sweet spot between having little or no plan on one side and the common human desire for clear plans that do not change on the other. Through constant deliberate prayerful docility to the Holy Spirit, Church leaders are able to effectively plan and easily change plans when inspired to do so, all while effectively leading others. ====== Seeking to be even more encouraged and inspired?
