After Labor Day, many people find themselves in transition and faced with changes. The kids are heading back to school, or going to school for the first time. Maybe they are moving from middle school to high school, or high school to college. Changes in our lives often provoke mourning for old phases and grief about losing them. Dr. Kim Lannon talks about dealing with changes and the sadness they can bring.

A cup of coffee in one hand, David Blair rolls up the garage door to his warehouse and points out a few remaining 55-gallon barrels filled with honey. “We send it off to Sue Bee as soon as we can. We don’t really store it here,” says the third generation beekeeper from Kerman. Fall is honey harvesting season. Each summer, Blair, 61, hauls truckloads of bees to various spots in the state to shield them from the Valley heat. This year, he and his father, also a beekeeper, brought about 1500 hives up to the forests in the Sierra Nevada. After Labor Day, Blair typically removes the honey from the hives before he brings the bees back to the Valley. But this year, the Creek Fire erupted before he could get to them. He and his father lost about 540 hives; that’s more than a third of what they had in the mountains. Blair says he couldn’t help but cry after witnessing the devastation. “Yeah a little bit,” he says. “Because it’s just a loss, the work you put into them. The way of life. It’s just

Saudi Arabia represents a huge percentage of world oil production. The recent drone attack took half their production offline. But it appears they will be back to full production in a matter of weeks. In addition, fall is a slow time of year for oil consumption. After Labor Day, demand declines. Factor in recession in some countries and a slowing U.S. economy bringing down demand. Meanwhile, U.S. production has increased. A decade ago, the U.S. produced little oil, and faced shortages driving up costs to $147 a barrel, compared to $60 last trade. We may see a brief minor spike in prices at the pump. Equifax conned the states and the Feds to reduce their settlement liability to $125 per affected person and is still hitting back over the number of applicants. Now that want you to verify information again. You have 4 weeks to reverify your application.   California has passed legislation making app-based workers employees vs independent contractors, starting in January. This includes Uber, Lyft, DoorDash and the like. There’s been a large movement by employers pushing the private contractor designation, to avoid paying benefits. We need a class of employment falling somewhere between a contractor and full-time employee. Uber and Lyft predict their labor cost will rise 20- 30% in California from this change. This current system of off or on is exploiting and harmful to workers. Ratio employment would help ease the income inequality problem in the U.S.  Learn more about your ad choices. Have you ever thought about how your wardrobe compliments your attitude? After Labor Day, are you wearing white? A color that's not a color, yet a basic fundamental in your wardrobe.  It's easy to get caught up in the rigamarole of what to wear when and to what event. No one wants to stick out. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT But still you want to be your own person. You want to wear what you feel like. Is there anything wrong with that? I saw some #tweets these past few days when it came to wearing white and it got me thinking. God wants us to stand out for Him. He doesn't want us to concede to what others demand. God desires us to clothe ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. "Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." ~ Colossians 3:12 Wear white, including especially after Labor Day! The K.I.S.S. ~ Wear white! It truly is a reminder of how God wants us to live. Not by the ways of this world, but in obedience to Him. Now I'm all for uniforms, and then we wouldn't have to worry about colors or anything else for that matter. However, God created you uniquely your own! Step into the greatness He is calling you to this Fall season. Don't place your hopes in what the world calls you to. Stand out for what God desires for you. Let your colors shine brightly; as you were created on purpose for a purpose. It's time.... LIFE. On purpose! When you rise up in the morning, look for garments that project love and grace, kindness and humility. Reach out to those who have fallen and pick them up with your brightness radiating from your compassionate heart. Stand up taller knowing that God's got you! Everything you encounter, God has already walked. Be patient in your every day. Seek Him first and approach the day with a gentleness. God's timing is heavenly. No need to rush through the moments. Be present and know He's training you up for greatness. As you clothe yourself, remember to let it be a reflection of whom God is raising up. Whatever the color, may it be a beacon of light for all to see His glory! "Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"   TAKE A.I.M. ~ Action Ignites Motivation  - This is a complimentary (FREE) coaching call with me. 006: Capitalizing on the Last Hiring Push of the Year

The Exclusive Career Coach

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 12, 2017 33:56

After Labor Day through the end of November is the last big hiring push of the year. First, I want to talk to those of you who haven't yet started a job search, but plan to launch one in the new year: 1.  Update your resume and LinkedIn profile, preferably using a certified resume writer. -Use this opportunity to pull together your performance evaluations, sales results, marketing achievements, and other documents. You (or your resume writer) will need this information AND it brings your accomplishments to the front of your mind, which will be a tremendous benefit during job interviews. -Make sure you have a clear brand message on your resume that is carried through to your LinkedIn profile. This brand message should differentiate you from all the other candidates you'll be competing against. -Metrics are key! I like to use text boxes, graphs, and charts on sales resumes to visually represent your successes. 2. Get some new recommendations on LinkedIn that speak, as specifically as possible, to your brand attributes. (Note: I'm talking about written recommendations, not endorsements.) Think of your brand attributes as a puzzle, with multiple pieces. Which pieces of your brand are missing from your LinkedIn recommendations, or which pieces are only spoken of by an old recommendation? -These recommendations are third-party, expert endorsements of your brand; they are much more impactful than if you say the same things about yourself. -Your goal should be to have a minimum of three recommendations, but I recommend 10. You'll probably want to ask two people for every one recommendation you hope to receive, because not everyone will follow through. 3. Connect with decision-makers at your target employers on LinkedIn and start a conversation. -This begins with determining the companies you really want to work for, and then finding the decision-makers at those companies. -These conversations are separate from any jobs that may be posted. You are having a conversation about your fit with the organization, not your fit for a specific job posting. For those of you who have been job searching in 2017, and are still looking: 1.  For any companies you have interviewed with but haven't received a rejection notice from, make a call to determine the status of your candidacy. -Be sure to ask them what their timeline is – are they planning to make a decision by the end of the year? -What is their target start date for the selected candidate? 2. For positions you've applied for but haven't been invited in for an interview or received a rejection notice, make a call to determine the status of the job search. -Same questions as above – when are they planning to make a decision? When do they want the selected candidate to start work? -If they seem receptive, ask another question, such as what is the primary quality or skill they are looking for in this position? What has been their biggest challenge in hiring for this position in the past? 3. If you've been looking for a while with less-than-stellar results, speak to an expert like me who can assess your job search and identify strategies you can implement to get better results. -If you want to do this yourself, conduct an ROI on your various job search activities. Simply group the activities you are doing into categories, such as applying on job boards and networking, and determine how much time you are spending on each. Then assess the results you're getting from each category.   To visit my website: www.exclusivecareercoaching.com Follow My YouTube channel (Lesa Edwards); it's chocked full of value career management content is easily digestible bites.
