They covered recent Hellraiser developments including new one-shot comics from Boom Studios focusing on different Cenobites, the upcoming Hellraiser game releasing October 8th, and new Trick or Treat Studios action figures. The main discussion centered on "The Body Politic," a story about Charlie George whose hands rebel against his body, exploring themes of revolution, control, and the consequences of breaking away from societal structures. The hosts analyzed the story's metaphors, its film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway," and received feedback from listeners about their experiences with the story. They also discussed upcoming commentary tracks for Prince of Darkness and Angel Heart.   Summary Hellraiser Comic Series Announcements The podcast hosts discussed recent Hellraiser news, including Boom Studios' announcement of five new Hellraiser one-shot comics titled "Hellraiser Resurrections" focusing on different Cenobites. They reviewed details about each comic's plot and characters, noting that these appear to be standalone stories that could potentially lead to a new series. The discussion also covered a successful Kickstarter campaign called "Leviathan's Vault" that raised nearly $900,000 to reissue Hellraiser comics, including volumes from 2011 and various limited series. The conversation concluded with a brief mention of the Hellraiser revival game, though details about this were not provided in the transcript segment. Hellraiser Game and Figures Release The group discussed the upcoming release of a Hellraiser game on October 8th, with José sharing details from gameplay demos including melee attacks, gunplay, puzzles, and a crafting system. They also discussed new Trick or Treat Studios Hellraiser figures that are available for pre-order, with an estimated shipping date of December 9, 2026, and a special bundle price of $159.96. The figures will be 8 inches tall with some articulation features, and were sculpted by Alexander Ray. Clive Barker's "The Body Politic The group discussed Clive Barker's story "The Body Politic," focusing on its extended metaphor about body parts rebelling against the control of the brain. They analyzed how the story explores themes of revolution, tyranny, and the consequences of following a wrong leader, particularly through the character of Charlie George whose hands conspire against him. The discussion included details about the film adaptation in "Quicksilver Highway" and compared it to the original story, noting differences in the ending where Charlie jumps from a roof followed by the hands, leading to their collective doom. Clive Barker's "The Collection" Analysis The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Collection" and its film adaptation, focusing on themes of revolution and the body's autonomy. They analyzed how the story explores the concept of body parts rebelling against their owners, with José noting the film's cameos including Clive Barker and John Landis. The discussion concluded with speculation about which body part would be most terrifying if it rebelled, with eyes and butts being particular points of concern. Clive Barker Story Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Body Politic," sharing personal reactions and experiences, including one listener's connection to the story through a personal injury. They reviewed comments from Reddit and their listeners' group, noting the story's themes of revolution and control. The team announced their next content will be audio commentaries for the 1987 films "Prince of Darkness" and "Angel Heart," chosen after a tie vote between those films and "Hellraiser." They also mentioned upcoming content including "The Inhuman Condition" in their Book Club of Blood series.

José provided a detailed summary of the plot, describing the main character Gavin as an amoral hustler who discovers a golem-like creature in Reynolds' apartment. The discussion explored themes of aging, retirement, and superficiality, with Ryan suggesting the story represents how younger people replace older professionals in various fields. The group analyzed key moments in the story, including Gavin's discovery of the statue in Reynolds' bathtub and the creature's apparent attraction to Gavin's appearance. The conversation concluded with reflections on Gavin's character as a young, attractive but lost soul. Gavin's Shadow Statue Confrontation The group discussed a story involving Gavin, who becomes entangled with a pimp named Pretorius after a misunderstanding about a crime committed against one of Pretorius's sex workers. Gavin tries to escape but is caught and attacked with a knife, leading to a confrontation with a shadowy statue that appears to be coming to his aid. The statue, which seems connected to Gavin on a psychic level, transforms from a wooden statue to a more human form and helps defend him, eventually revealing a connection to Gavin's own shadow self. The discussion touched on various themes including doppelgängers, golems, and depression, with the statue potentially representing Gavin's inner demons or depression manifesting physically. Doppelganger Story Plot Discussion The group discussed a story involving a doppelganger that takes over a person's life, with José explaining key plot points about how the doppelganger physically mirrors the original person's injuries and experiences. They explored the character's situation after murdering Pretorius and the gang, including his decision not to return home due to police involvement and his limited resources. The discussion also covered the character's visit to Reynolds, who provided limited explanations about the creature's origins and requirements for activation, though Reynolds himself had become isolated and deteriorated since encountering the entity. Gavin's Doppelganger Character Analysis The group discussed a character named Gavin who creates a doppelganger that leads an independent life after copying him. They analyzed how Gavin loses his will to live as his clone becomes more human and powerful, with José comparing this to depression and Ryan drawing parallels to retirement. The discussion concluded with details about Gavin waking up to find his clone had been shot, highlighting the tragic consequences of losing one's purpose and identity. Graphic Novel Character Analysis The group discussed a graphic novel, focusing on a character who takes on others' lives and experiences. They explored themes of identity, grief, and the burden of life, particularly through the story of Gavin and his doppelganger. José highlighted the significance of the doppelganger's wound and its healing process, while the group discussed the character's potential curse and origins. They also noted the contrast between Gavin's emotional state and the doppelganger's ability to emote and connect with life. Clive Barker's Doppelganger Story Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's story about a doppelganger, exploring its themes of grief, identity, and what makes someone human. They considered the story's potential as an arthouse film, noting its low-budget production possibilities and discussing how to adapt the interior monologue elements for the screen. The conversation included insights about Barker's own experiences that may have influenced the story, and they examined the connection between the doppelganger and Gavin's character, speculating about how the story might end. Clive Barker Rights Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's rights to his works, particularly regarding the Books of Blood series and Hellraiser. They noted that rights typically revert to authors unless new adaptations are created, and discussed how rights complications can arise when multiple adaptations attempt to use the same material. The conversation concluded with plans to move on to Volume 4 of the Books of Blood, specifically discussing the story "The Body Politic" and mentioning a Christopher Lloyd adaptation titled "The Inhuman Condition." Hellraiser Adaptations and Projects The group discussed various Hellraiser adaptations and related projects. They talked about a 2016 screenplay for "In the Flesh" by Mick Garris and Clive Barker, and expressed hope for an upcoming TV show by Brad Fuller. The conversation also covered a Hellraiser comic book collection by Boom Studios, which includes three volumes with a total of over 1,500 pages, though one participant had to cancel their pre-order due to the high cost of $200. The discussion concluded with a brief mention of Monstrous Press's "Kolchak Meets the Monsters" crossover collection and a potential deal for 90s Hellraiser Epic comics. Marvel Hellraiser Comics Discussion The group discussed Marvel Hellraiser comics, including their completeness and value, with José noting that buyers should be aware of what they're purchasing. They planned their next content, deciding to focus on Pinhead sketches and paintings rather than voting on a new movie, with José suggesting they could return to voting after this topic. The discussion concluded with gratitude to Patreon donors and a nostalgic conversation about vintage toys from the 1980s and 1990s, including Ewok movies, Universal Monsters playsets, and various action figures. Toys Discussion The group discussed childhood toys, including She-Ra dolls, Transformers, and Battlestar Galactica figures. José shared details about a new Masters of the Universe movie trailer featuring Jared Leto as Skeletor.

We report on a fresh wave of long-range Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia that forced at least 15 Russian airports to suspend flight operations and also examine the so-called “Gamechanger” plot – allegations of a plan to stage a fake assassination attempt on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to boost his chances in next month's election. Later, we catch-up with Michael Bohnert at the RAND Corporation, and ask whether Ukraine's Flamingo cruise missiles and interceptor drones are now setting the pace for aerial warfare and military innovation.Contributors:Francis Dearnley (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @FrancisDearnley on X.Dominic Nicholls (Host on Ukraine: The Latest). @DomNicholls on X.With thanks to Michael Bohnert of RAND.NOW IN FULL VIDEO WITH MAPS & BATTLEFIELD FOOTAGE:Every episode is now available on our YouTube channel shortly after the release of the audio version. From Iran's perspective, this war is going according to plan. Even though America and Israel have dominated the battlefield, the regime has not collapsed, the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked, and the entire region is under pressure. Yet major questions remain over how many missiles they have left and how long they can stop major protests from erupting once again on the streets. Roland Oliphant is joined by The Telegraph's chief foreign affairs commentator David Blair and foreign correspondent Akhtar Makoii to discuss the conflict so far and answer listeners' questions. Plus, Jonathan Hackett, a former Marine Corps interrogator, counterintelligence agent, and special operations intelligence officer, returns to give his assessment of the past two weeks, discuss the Israeli covert ops taking place on the ground, and look at where things might go from here. They explored themes of desecration, the supernatural, and the island's role as a burial mound for naval casualties. The characters' unsympathetic and mechanical interactions, particularly Jonathan's brutal treatment of the sheep, contributed to the story's grim outcome. The group also examined the story's connections to historical and literary references, including the scapegoat tradition and the poem "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner." Exploring 'The Sea Change The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Sea Change," focusing on its unsettling themes and narrative elements. They explored the story's depiction of the afterlife, where souls are trapped in decomposing bodies, and the role of ritual offerings to appease the dead. The conversation highlighted the story's use of onomatopoeia to describe the sea's movements and its symbolic representation of death as a circular process. The group also discussed the characters' unlikable nature and lack of friendship, as well as the open question of whether the ritual would need to be repeated by future generations. Scapegoats" Symbolism and Adaptation The group discussed the story "Scapegoats," focusing on its themes of emotional emptiness and crossing thresholds into unknown spaces. They analyzed the symbolism of the sheep and the characters' disregard for rituals and obligations. The conversation concluded with a discussion about the potential for an animated adaptation of Clive Barker's "Books of Blood" series, though rights issues would make such a project challenging. Clive Barker's Scapegoats Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's "Scapegoats," noting its detached narrative and themes of ennui. They explored artistic depictions of the story, including a Dave McKeon cover and a Steve Fabian painting. Ryan announced upcoming episodes on Clive's Contemporaries and a new interview with Michael Pumetiz, who is also developing a Nocturnity movie. José shared insights on the Portuguese fishing community and its superstitions, drawing parallels to the story. The story explored themes of sexual repression in British society and the corrupt underbelly of London's entertainment industry during the 1980s. The discussion included analysis of character motivations, the supernatural elements of Ronnie's ghostly form, and the story's dark humor. The podcasters also shared insights about the story's adaptation into a Tapping the Vein comic and discussed upcoming content including a 1978 movie commentary series where votes were still being collected between Superman and The Body Snatchers. The conversation ended with a light-hearted photo shoot using blankets as a creative way to represent the podcast's ghostly theme. The Pornographer's Shroud: Moral Consequences The group discussed Clive Barker's story "The Pornographer's Shroud" from Volume 3 of Books of Blood. José explained that the story explores how a man who builds his moral universe by denying the body faces consequences even after death, noting that Ronnie Glass, the protagonist, is an everyman who works for a pornography publisher but remains sexually prudish. Ryan and José discussed how the story reveals that Ronnie's moral judgments are flawed, as he believes sin can be corrected like an error in a ledger. The group agreed that the story is terrifying not just for its supernatural elements but also because Ronnie doesn't recognize his own evil, seeing himself as tidy and righteous. McGuire's Greed and Retribution The group discussed a story involving Michael McGuire, who discovers his boss's involvement in distributing explicit magazines. José explained that McGuire, who appears respectable but is driven by greed, becomes angry when he learns about his boss's illegal activities. The story critiques British society's repressive nature, as McGuire's public persona contrasts with his private actions. Ryan questioned why McGuire would visit the warehouse, given his knowledge of the illegal operations, and José suggested McGuire's curiosity and denial played a role. The discussion concluded with McGuire punching his boss in a fit of rage, only to face retaliation from McGuire's associates. Ronnie's Fall and Path to Revenge The group discussed a scenario involving Ronnie Glass, who was smeared by the media after being linked to a pornography case, despite not being directly involved. They analyzed how Ronnie's reputation was destroyed, his wife left him, and he felt a twisted sense of relief during his beating, viewing it as a form of punishment. The conversation also touched on Ronnie's transformation from feeling betrayed to seeking revenge, his struggle to obtain a gun in England, and his cold, calculated approach to planning murder after his wife's departure. Ronnie Glass's Vengeful Journey The group discussed the character Ronnie Glass and his journey of revenge after being wrongfully accused and framed by his criminal associates. They analyzed his cold-blooded killings of Henry B and Dennis Dork Lozati, noting his lack of conscience and methodical approach to settling scores. The discussion highlighted how Ronnie's actions not only avenged his own wrongs but also shook the underworld's power balance, with some respecting his courage while others condemned his brutality. The conversation also touched on Ronnie's missed opportunity for redemption by not leaving a letter to his wife to explain his innocence and the impact of his actions on innocent people. Violence and Emotional Detachment The group discussed a violent story involving Ronnie's murder by McGuire, who then casually returned to social activities afterward. They noted how the characters showed little emotional response to the violence, with the pathologist and his assistants engaging in trivial conversation while performing the autopsy. Ronnie's wife visited his body without much emotional display, and he later became frustrated by the disrespectful treatment during the autopsy, leading him to leave his body through his shroud and become a ghost-like figure. Ronnie's Shroud Murder Spree The group discussed a story involving Ronnie, who gains the ability to manipulate a shroud to create a semi-human form and uses this power to kill a pathologist. Ronnie later encounters McGuire in a sex shop, where McGuire is choked and killed by Ronnie, who then escapes. The story also follows McGuire's goons and their interactions with corrupt police officers, including a scene where one goon is beaten for pleasuring himself in the police station. McGuire's Tragic End The group discussed a scene involving McGuire, who is recovering from an attack and reflecting on his life while surrounded by portraits of his heroes. McGuire's wife and child visit, but after the dogs start barking, Ronnie, who is already on the property, attacks McGuire. Ronnie ultimately kills McGuire by jamming his shroud down McGuire's throat, then shoots McGuire's wife and Norton before being killed by the Shroud in front of McGuire's young daughter. The story then shifts to Ronnie seeking redemption by confessing to a priest, but Father Rooney is distracted by taking photographs with a woman named Natalie. The Body Politik Adaptation Discussion The group discussed the story "The Body Politik," focusing on its themes of suburban tranquility masking deeper secrets and its adaptation into a Tapping the Vein comic. They noted that the story would work better as a short film or part of an anthology series rather than a full-length feature. José mentioned that the story shares similarities with other Clyde Barker works, such as "Hell's Event" and "Pig Blood Blues." The discussion concluded with comments from Reddit users praising the story's pacing and Clive Barker's ability to make unusual ideas believable, as well as noting that the Mick Garris adaptation was not well-received.

They briefly talked about challenges in finding certain comic books, including a hardcover edition, and Ryan mentioned receiving negative feedback on Reddit for posting about comics. The conversation ended with José searching for the PDF and Ryan preparing to start recordings. RAWHEAD REX DISCUSSION AND THEMES The Book Club of Blood returned with episode 519, where Ryan shared his experience reading Snow by Ronald Malfe at a Dark Fairbanks Book Club meeting, which had only 4 attendees out of 18 who registered. The main discussion focused on Clive Barker's Rawhead Rex, a feral folk horror novella about an ancient forest entity in England, with Ryan, José, and wnbla discussing the story's themes of modernization vs. tradition in the English countryside. They explored how the protagonist Ron Milton's attempts to modernize the village of Zeal conflict with local legends and traditions, particularly regarding an ancient warning rock that has become forgotten over time. RAWHEAD REX ADAPTATION COMPARISONS The group discussed the differences between the book and movie adaptations of Rawhead Rex, focusing on the character development and visual representation of Rawhead. They noted that the movie lacked the original script's detailed opening sequence and internal dialogue from Rawhead's perspective, which would have provided a more nuanced portrayal of the monster. The conversation also touched on the creature design in the film, comparing it to the book's description and highlighting the movie's limitations in terms of budget and special effects. The discussion concluded with a brief overview of the main characters in the story and their roles in the narrative. RAWHEAD CHARACTER ANALYSIS DISCUSSION The group discussed the character Rawhead, exploring his fears of femininity and his destructive nature. They compared the movie adaptation to the original story, noting differences in character interactions and plot details. José shared information about a failed comic adaptation and the rarity of the published version. The conversation also touched on the artistic contributions of various creators involved in the comic and movie adaptations. SUPERNATURAL ALTAR FILM ADAPTATION The group discussed the film adaptation of the story about a mysterious altar and its connection to supernatural events. They explored how the film depicted the characters' experiences with the altar's power, including Koot's painful erection and Declan's distorted vision. The story delves into the history of the settlement, with Declan sharing his knowledge of ancient tales about a creature called Rawhead. They also discussed the film's portrayal of the investigation into the murders, including the detective's initial underestimation of the killer's cunning. RAWHEAD REX: REMAKE POTENTIAL The group discussed Clive Barker's novel "Rawhead Rex," focusing on its adaptation into a film. They explored themes of monstrous beings and human desire for power, as well as the film's depiction of a priest being enthralled by the monster. The conversation touched on the film's visual elements and potential for a remake, with José noting that the scene of the priest urinating on a character named Vickers remained in the final cut despite Clive Barker's initial doubts. The group agreed that "Rawhead Rex" could be a good candidate for a remake, particularly with modern visual effects technology. RAWHEAD CHURCH ATTACK SCENE The group discussed the plot of a horror movie involving a monster named Rawhead, focusing on a scene where the monster attacks a priest and a young boy in a church. They described how the monster overpowers the priest, causing him to have visions and leading to a confrontation with police. The discussion also covered the monster's ability to regenerate and the aftermath of the attack, including the priest's injuries and the character's hospitalization. RAWHEAD REX: BOOK VS. MOVIE The group discussed the differences between the book and movie adaptations of "Rawhead Rex," focusing on character development, plot details, and the horror elements. José and Ryan highlighted the book's more complex and disturbing narrative, including the graphic depiction of the monster's attack and the visceral details of the child's death. They compared the movie's portrayal, noting its limitations in capturing the book's intensity and the substitution of a human slave for the monster's destructive actions. José and Ryan also discussed the significance of the religious relic in the book, emphasizing its symbolic representation of feminine power and its role in defeating the monster. The conversation concluded with reflections on the movie's simplification of the story and the potential for a more faithful adaptation in the future. RAWHEAD REX ADAPTATION DISCUSSION The group discussed the movie adaptation of Clive Barker's Rawhead Rex, noting its limitations compared to the original story. They explored the potential for a better rendition of the story in the future. José and Ryan worked on formatting and publishing details for the second printing of their book, including creating separate versions for Kindle and Apple Books. They planned to complete these tasks and order proofs the next day, with the goal of announcing the availability of the updated book soon after.

Donald Trump's latest effort to end the war in Ukraine unleashed a week of diplomatic turmoil. And some of the most dramatic diplomatic twists and turns bear the finger prints of one man: Jonathan Powell, the British national security advisor, not only led a diplomatic rescue mission to recast Donald Trump's original Russian-inspired proposals in Ukraine and Europe's favour. His influence can also be seen in Anglo-French plans for a “coalition of the willing,” and even earlier this year in Donald Trump's Gaza Peace Plan.He is a low-profile figure who wields real influence. So can the man who some have called Britain's Henry Kissinger guide the war in Ukraine to a peaceful and palatable conclusion? Is his philosophy of engagement suited to grappling with Putin's Kremlin? And have the week's acrobatics brought Ukraine and Russia any closer to peace?David Blair, the Telegraph's chief foreign affairs commentator, and Orysia Lutsevych, the head of the Ukraine Forum at Chatham House, joins Roland Oliphant on this edition of Battle Lines.David Blair on Jonathan Powell:https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/25/jonathan-powell-britains-kissinger-ukraine/For blow-by-blow coverage of the peace talks, follow Ukraine the Latest: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/03/02/russia-ukraine-war-listen-daily-podcast/► Sign up to our most popular newsletter, From the Editor. They examined various aspects of the story, including its cinematic references, character motivations, and the decline of traditional movie theaters, while sharing personal memories of past theater experiences. The discussion concluded with an exploration of the story's themes of illusions and reality, monster encounters, and the challenges of adapting Barker's work into different media formats.    They then began analyzing Clive Barker's "Son of Celluloid," discussing its narrative structure divided into three acts and its themes of ambition and cancer as metaphors. The story follows Barbario, a fugitive criminal who hides in an old movie theater and watches a Fellini film while bleeding to death, unaware that his cancer is the result of his dangerous lifestyle. The group noted that while the story contains dated references to Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne, it effectively captures the nostalgia of old movie theaters and the magic of cinema.     The group discussed Clive Barker's story about a theater that became haunted after changing from a place of worship to a cinema, with José explaining how the building accumulated decades of audience emotions and became a "cathedral of collective dreams." They explored the character development of Birdie, the ticket lady who is bored and self-conscious about her weight, and how her intelligence becomes her strength when facing the antagonist. The conversation also touched on the decline of cinema attendance and the specific details of the Tron Ares movie, including Bruce Boxleitner's decision not to reprise his role as Tron.   Memories of Classic Movie Theaters The group discussed their memories of old movie theaters, including the smell of cigarettes and popcorn, torn seats, and pre-movie slides advertising local businesses. They shared their first movie theater experiences, with Ryan remembering "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger" and Blair recalling "Star Wars" at a drive-in. José shared his fond memories of watching "E.T." as a child and mentioned the original darker treatment for the film. The conversation then shifted to Ricky's investigation of Lindy Lee's boyfriend in the bathroom, where he unexpectedly finds himself in a Western-themed setting. Monster's Failed Illusion Tactics The group discussed the story's themes of illusions manifesting in reality, particularly focusing on a scene where a monster creates a John Wayne illusion to threaten characters. They analyzed how the monster's aggressive approach failed when Ricky punched the illusion, leading to its dissolution. The discussion highlighted Ricky's character contrast with Birdie's correct choices, and noted that the monster would likely try a different tactic after this failed attempt at intimidation. Horror at the Movie Theater The group discussed a horror story involving a movie theater, where Birdie discovers a bloody scene and an unconscious man, while Lindy Lee disappears after seeing a bunny. Birdie attempts to call for help but is thwarted by a mysterious voice that locks the doors, forcing her to retrieve keys from Ricky. Despite her initial fear, Birdie wisely decides to seek help rather than stay trapped, and she eventually finds the body of a victim whose eyes have been violently removed. Marilyn Monster Seduction Analysis The group discussed a scene from a graphic novel where a monster in the form of Marilyn Monroe seduces Ricky, leading to his death. They analyzed the visual and narrative elements, including the use of flickering lights to create the illusion and the monster's need for attention. The conversation touched on themes of immortality through pop culture icons and Ricky's foolish decision to engage with the monster despite the danger. They also briefly mentioned Birdie's attempt to defend herself with a crowbar. Psychic Monster Comic Adaptation The group discussed the comic adaptation of a story involving a monster that feeds on psychic energy from moviegoers. They analyzed key plot points, including Birdie's armed defense against attackers, her escape attempt through a theater fire exit, and her confrontation with the monster. José highlighted the monster's transformation and its connection to the character Barbario, while Ryan and Blair noted the story's exploration of themes like ambition, waste, and the impact of movies on people's lives. The discus Adapting 'Son of Celluloid The group discussed Clive Barker's "Son of Celluloid," focusing on its themes of body horror, celebrity worship, and the dangers of spectatorship. They explored the challenges of adapting the story into a film, particularly regarding the use of real celebrities' likenesses. José shared insights from Barker's early attempts to pitch the story to studios and the eventual difficulties in securing funding. The conversation also touched on the graphic novel adaptation by Steve Niles and Les Edwards, highlighting its painted artwork and the availability of original pages for sale. The group agreed to explore the story further in their next episode, which will focus on "Rawhead Rex."
