His contribution to the discipline of Irish Folklore and Ethnology has been exceptional. Having lived in Ballymenone, Co. Fermanagh, for almost a decade in the 1970s, Professor Glassie published a number of studies inspired by the community there, including All Silver and No Brass (1975), Passing the Time in Ballymenone (1982) and The Stars of Ballymenone (2006). These books are landmark works which have become classic texts for students of Folklore in Ireland and abroad, along with many other items on Professor Glassie's long list of publications. Henry has rendered invaluable service to our understanding of Irish popular tradition and vernacular culture, and he can truly be described as a towering figure in the study of Irish Folklore for more than half a century. Even in his retirement, he remains a staunch and committed friend to Ireland and to the people he worked with while carrying out fieldwork here. Henry has had a long and extremely positive relationship with UCD since the establishment of the Department of Irish Folklore in the university in the early 1970s. With the approach of the fiftieth anniversary of his first major publication on Irish Folklore, All Silver and No Brass, it was deemed especially appropriate for the University to take the opportunity to honour Professor Glassie, and on Wednesday 21 May 2025, Henry was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from UCD, in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the growing area of Irish Studies in general, and to the field of Irish Folklore and Ethnology in particular. It was a great honour and personal privilege for me to sit and 'Pass the Time' with Henry, and over the course of ninety minutes we explored his background, interests, intellectual life, and experiences of field work, as well as delving into the topics of place, creativity, art, meaning, identity, belonging and despair; invoking old friends such as Fred B. Kniffen, E. Estyn Evans, Michael J. Murphy, Seán Ó Súilleabháin, Ellen Cutler, Tommy Love, Michael Boyle, Peter Flanagan, and Hugh Nolan as we trooped our way homewards. My thanks to all my colleagues at the NFC, as well as Susan Lysaght, Sandra Collins, Evelyn Flanagan, Andrew Fogarty, Veronica Aguilar Olmos, Dominic Martella for making this episode possible, and - most especially - to Henry and Pravina for their generosity, openness and kindness.

The Best Of series continues with a mega anthology of three DJ/producers who's work I have loved for the better part of a decade now. I'm talking about the incredible Toy Armada, DJ GRIND and more recently, Jace M. Toy Armada hails from the Philippines and started his DJ career at the age of 23. He held residencies at major clubs in Manila and as far as I know, he still resides there. Starting his producing career in 2010, it really took off when he met his long time collaborator DJ GRIND in 2012. They became immensely popular on the world circuit party scene and began playing at venues around the world at some of the biggest circuit and Pride parties. I had the pleasure of meeting them both in Sydney in 2018 when they were playing at a party called DayWash. I only decided to go last minute so wasn't aware of the DJ lineup. Whilst on the dance floor, I said to my friend that the DJ likes playing a lot of Toy Armada & DJ GRIND remixes. He looked at me and said 'that's because they are playing you idiot'. Naturally I made a beeline for the DJ booth and introduced myself. They were both very pleasant and very humble while I fan girled over them. I haven't been able to find a lot of info on DJ GRIND as there hasn't been a lot of activity on his podomatic or Facebook page since 2020. Toy Armada has also collaborated with Tommy Love and Mauro Mozart. Jace M is originally from Washington DC and began DJ'ing in 2002. Moving to Detroit, he started up a number of events which are still running today. His collaborations with Toy Armada continue the theme of massive, thunderous big room circuit anthems. Between the three of them they have remixed and produced for some of the world's biggest recording artists including Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Ella Henderson, Loren Allred, Adele, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, P!nk and of course, Kylie Minogue just to name a few. Ricky G. became Ricky Rebel and embarked on a solo career after My Chemical Romance invited him to co-star in their “NA NA NA” and “Sing” videos. In 2012, he won the Artist of the Year award at the RAWards and released his “Manipulator” album featuring the hits “Geisha Dance”, “Get It On”, “You Need a Woman” and the title track. MTV's “Good Vibes” also featured music from the album. In 2013, “Geisha Dance” spent ten weeks on the Mediabase Chart, the chart that powers “On Air with Ryan Seacrest”.In 2014, Ricky released “The Blue Album” mixed by Claudio Cueni (JLo) with remixes by world-renowned DJs Hector Fonseca (Over 20 Billboard number-one hits for artists including Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna), Casey Alva (Erika Jayne) and Tommy Love. His “Boys & Sometimes Girls” single from “The Blue Album” reached #28 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.

Ricky G. became Ricky Rebel and embarked on a solo career after My Chemical Romance invited him to co-star in their “NA NA NA” and “Sing” videos. In 2012, he won the Artist of the Year at the RAWards and released the “Manipulator” album featuring the hits “Geisha Dance”, “Get It On”, “You Need a Woman” and the title track. MTV’s “Good Vibes” also featured music from the album. In 2013, “Geisha Dance” spent ten weeks on the Mediabase Chart, the chart that powers “On Air with Ryan Seacrest”. Now, Ricky takes to the stage with band members Alyson Montez, a Grammy-winning violinist, and drummer Robert Platz, with his new release, “The Blue Album” mixed by Claudio Cueni (JLo) with remixes for the “Star” single by world-renowned DJs Hector Fonseca (15 Billboard number-one hits for artists including Beyonce, Katy Perry, Sia), Casey Alva (Billboard number-one hit for Erika Jayne) and Tommy Love. In addition, Ricky recently played with Grammy-winners Mya and Colbie Caillat, The Psychedelic Furs and is also a fashion contributor to Us Weekly (Circulation 2,000,000). In an effort to get things back on track and wrap up on Thursday of this next week, I'm sending up v6 of the Pride Edition and what a whopper this one is! I'm talking, about bodies movin', non-stop groovin', asses shakin', floors are breakin', queens are freakin', hoe's are creepin', divas flowin', everybody knows it's time to STAND UP and put your hands to the sky! AHH HELL YEAH! Sorry, I just get a little carried away, but this mix of almost all brand-spanking new circuit beats gave me a hard-on that has lasted for days! There IS some seriously deep, dark. progressive, tribalicious sh!t going on here. Hopefully, I haven't cut the pending Summer Edition tracklist to bring you these fresh new cuts for your Pride consumption. Then again, you know me, K j A M always delivers the goods, so I'm confident I'll be able to work that out when the time comes. Kicking things off is the oft-time flaky hysterics of Sir Ivan. After last fall's Kumbaya, I thought this guy's shtick had pretty much bottomed out and I was pretty hesitant to even listen to his latest Hare Krishna. I'm glad I did because Tony really hit it with his production and delivers the goods like he hasn't done in some time. I guess it just goes to show that money can buy you fame, even if it's for 15 minutes or so. This is followed by some heavy hitters like Tim Letteer's Broke Free and Gustavo Scorpio's private mix of Kelis' Acapella. Keep an eye out for Gustavo, because his mixes that he's been floating around the net, just keep getting better and better. Another one to look out for is the San Francisco hottie, Jamie J. Sanchez. No doubt, he's been working hard to tighten up his productions. After this spring's take on Nasty Boy by Jipsta, along with his own Lift Me Up featuring Ria Spencer and his amazing re-work of Heaven by John LePage and Debby Holiday, Jamie is bound and determined to make an even bigger name for himself. Keep this up and I see superstar DJ in his future. Another song I've been getting sweaty balls over is Zayra's V.I.P. Some of you may remember her turn on on the reality program Rockstar Supernova. Well, she's back and readying an album entitled Baby Likes to Bang for a late August release. This first single is simply delicious as it takes a swipe at the Hilton's and the rest of their Martha's Vineyard ilk. With DJ Paulo doing the remix honors, expect to be hearing this song all over the place this summer; especially with Dave Aude and Mike Rizzo on board for additional remix honors. Max Sanna and Steve Pitron deliver a deeper and more progressive take on Kelly Rowland's Commander, while Ronnie Maze teams up with the in-demand Corey Andrew for the tearjerker Again. I left out the spoken word portion of the song since we don't need any of you balling like a sissy during your workout while thinking about the one that got away. Having previously overlooked the Chus and Ceballos re-work of Not Myself Tonight, I gave it a second chance and for good reason. This IS the best mix of this song to date. No offense to Jody, whose work continues to astound me, but these masters of tribal took the song in a completely different direction that works on so many levels, I had to give them props. Offer Nissim showcases a much-needed change in direction, and it works! Teaming up with Nikka, The One & Only is a terrific slice of what's sure to come from this Israeli mixmaster. Filipe Guerra and Lorena Simpson deliver their latest Breathe Again, with Tommy Love doing the remix honors. I listened over and over to the bevy of remixes that accompanied this #1 Masterbeat tune, and Tommy really delivers the bang for the buck. As much as possible, I've been shying away from typical circuit styled productions that sound like the DJ slapped an acapella over the same tribal beats they used for their last ten mixes. While I won't mention any names, gentlemen it's time to step up your game. You can't keep riding the same beat over and over....
