Dua Lipa, Sir Elton John and Florence Welch are among a list of stars calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to update existing copyright laws to protect them from AI. A letter signed by more than 400 British musicians, writers and artists and addressed to the Prime Minister says failing to give them that protection would mean them 'giving away' their work to tech firms. Flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall explains what the letter calls for - and why AI doesn't follow the same regulations as other platforms. Welcome to Hiatuscast! We discuss the crumbs we've gotten, such as the Weeknd collaboration and the tracks from Everything Is Recorded. Also, is The White Lotus gay culture? We ask the important questions.
MENÚ SONORO: Two Shell (Ooops...) / Mamalarky (#1 Best of All Time) / Hope Tala (Magic or Medicine) / Daughter of Swords (Talk to You) / The Velveteers (Suck the Cherry) / Daffo (Absence Makes the Heart Grow) / Valerie June (Joy, Joy) / Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto (Electric War) / Skeleten (Body’s Chorus) / Helen Ganya (Morlam Plearn) / The Delines (Left Hook Like Frazier) / DARKSIDE (Hell Suite - Part 1) / Everything Is Recorded feat. Sampha, Florence Welch and Alabaster DePlume (Never Felt Better) / Deerhoof (Overrated Species Anyhow) / Satomimagae (Many) / Ichiko Aoba (COLORATURA) / Gary Louris (Redefining Love) //
Además, escuchamos lo nuevo de Kaleo, a Sen Senra con Ed Maverik, a Hermano Salvaje y a los franceses, The Limiñanas con Bobbie Gillespie (Primal Scream): KALEO - Back DoorTHE LIMIÑANAS, BOBBY GILLESPIE - Prisoner of BeautyPRIMAL SCREAM - Country GirlZAHARA - CTRL+ZYAWNERS - Las horas pasanJORDANA B, CAMELLOS - Hacerlo MalALCALÁ NORTE - SupermanBARRY B, CAROLINA DURANTE - Yo Pensaba Que Me Había Tocado DíosSEN SENRA, ED MAVERICK - Ya No Te Hago FaltaHERMANO SALVAJE - Nuestros HimnosVIVA SUECIA - Dolor y GloriaEVERYTHING IS RECORDED - Never Felt Better (ft Sampha & Florence Welch)FONTAINES D.C. - It's Amazing To Be YoungVULFPECK - NEW GURUSEXY ZEBRAS - PogoMISO EXTRA - GhostlyEscuchar audio

About this episode Pretend you have a grand, well traveled, and stylish Auntie. She collects vintage dresses from London, Catrinas from Mexico, antique rugs from Morocco and storied jewelry from Paris. She is not old and she is not young. She says whatever she wants, she swears a lot, and is a bad influence on children, but only in the best possible way. She loves plants and animals, tarot cards and Florence Welch. She gives sage advice and has a story for everything. She is a Bohemian, not a hippie and you know this because she taught you the difference. She has a house in the deep dark woods, in a fairy tale town that sits on a stormy beach, in the most woodsy state. She stares at the moon. She plays good music. Her name is Layne Postilion. Endora is her Cabinet of Curiosities, her collections, and her dress up closet. And she can't wait to show you around. The Ghost of Tom Hoad 1995).

The Eras Tour has now come to an end in Europe, and in this episode we recap the chaotic London shows. From surprise guests, unexpected performances, to a random music video reveal, Cameron gives us a first hand account of how it all went down. We take a look back at the June concerts in Wembley that included Travis Kelce making his Eras Tour stage debut, Hayley Williams singing Castles Crumbling with Taylor, and Gracie Abrams' first ever performance of us. We then compare the experience with the last few Eras shows that brought the European run to a close, these included even more amazing guests - Ed Sheeran, Florence Welch and Jack Antonoff all joined Taylor over the last five nights. We also take a moment to celebrate our podcast anniversary. To anyone who has joined us over the last three years we thank you! Stay tuned for season four, we have a lot planned!

Connor and Dylan are joined by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Tony-nominated playwright Martyna Majok (Gatsby: An American Myth, Cost of Living). Fresh off their summer vacation to Palm Springs, the twins discuss drag brunches, paradise in the desert, and whether or not Isaac Powell strips down at A.R.T. in this summer's hottest show: Gatsby: An American Myth. There's no one better to chat about it all with than Martyna Majok, the show's book writer. We dive DEEP into the process of writing this new musical, from rediscovering the source material of The Great Gatsby, to collaborating with music and lyricist Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine, y'all!) and Thomas Bartlett, and her involvement in the casting process. Martyna bares her soul on themes, topics, and life experiences close to her heart, as well as the role they play in her writing. She tells the story of meeting her love, Bobby Conte, what it was like winning a Pulitzer for Cost of Living, and the transcendent experience of seeing John Stamos in Cabaret at Studio 54. Pool hustling, The Bear season 3, and taking stock of life are just a few more things the three of them get into in this insightful, heartfelt, and thrilling conversation. Across five studio albums, Florence and the Machine has explored genres from pop to punk and soul. Florence Welch, the group's singer and main songwriter, is by turns introspective and theatrical, poetic and confessional. She sat down with John Seabrook at The New Yorker Festival in 2019 to reflect on her band's rapid rise to stardom. She also spoke about her turn toward sobriety after years of heavy drinking. “The first year that I stopped, I felt like I'd really lost a big part of who I was and how I understood myself,” she says. “What I understood is that that was rock and roll, and, if you couldn't go the hardest, you were letting rock and roll down.” But eventually getting sober let her connect more deeply with fans and with the music. “To be conscious and to be present and to really feel what's going on—even though it's painful, it feels like much more a truly reborn spirit of rock and roll,” she says. Welch wrote the music and the lyrics for “Gatsby: An American Myth,” which opened in June at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This segment originally aired on May 24, 2022.

Joining Anne today in a live conversation from the recent Word of South festival is listener favorite Lauren Groff! This conversation happened in the midst of a big moment for Lauren: she was recently recognized on the Time 100 list, and her new bookstore, The Lynx, just opened in Gainesville, Florida. Lauren and Anne talk about what led Lauren to open The Lynx and her goals for this new independent bookstore. Their discussion explores a range of readerly topics, like Lauren's love for short stories, her writing process, the intersection of music and writing, and exploring stereotypes in real life and on the page. They also touch on the connection between Lauren, Florence Welch, and the Taylor Swift song, Florida!, and Lauren shares the book she's recommending lately. Chime in with the books you'd love to buy from The Lynx in the comments section of our show notes page, where we've also compiled the full list of titles discussed today. Casii's “gorgeously emotive voice inspires comparisons to alt-pop artists like Florence Welch and Fiona Apple with a writing style reminiscent of Carole King” (NPR). Stephan's voice is fierce and fearless, but this was not always the case. She grew up shy and afraid of her voice until she started writing songs on the family piano when she was 16. Casii moved to Tulsa in 2014 with the intent to give up her pursuit of a music career, however with a little encouragement from a friend, she continued songwriting and started releasing music in 2016. Since then, she has received national songwriting awards, toured regionally, performed official SXSW and Folk Alliance showcases, performed at the virtual Sundance Film Festival, and has been profiled on platforms such as Billboard, NPR, and American Songwriter. Casii writes her songs honestly, from the depths of her emotions, with lyrics that pushback on negative societal norms like sexism, ageism and “playing nice” as a woman. She uses writing to deconstruct her own beliefs with an underlying hope that things can change, inviting listeners on their own journey. In October, Casii signed with TRO Essex music publishing, joining the talented folk writers such as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, and iconic rock bands like The Who, Black Sabbath, and Pink Floyd. Casii recently traveled to Muscle Shoals, AL to record with producer, Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, St. Paul and the Broken Bones). The concept EP, “Relationship Status” takes the listener on the emotional journey of going from one relationship status to another and finally landing on the realization that these statuses do not define you. This will be released spring/summer 2024.

Sponsored by JCPenney Salonshttps://jobs.jcp.com/search/salon-professionals/jobsInterview with Janine JarmanJanine Jarman is a nationally renowned celebrity hairstylist and the founder of Hairroin Salon LA & NYC, the home of Hollywood and New York's best tressed. Born and raised in Huntington Beach, CA, Jarman has been “hair-obsessed” for as long as she can remember. At the age of 15, she teamed up with her best friend to offer hair and makeup services to her party-bound classmates. Jarman then moved on to beauty school, and after graduating, she immediately began shooting for the stars. Jarman steadily built a loyal client base until she was bit by the entrepreneurial bug in 2005. She purchased a failing salon and immediately re-branded and re-opened it as Hairroin Salon. Hairroin instantly became Tinseltown's newest obsession, garnering Hollywood clientele including Florence Welch, Tommy Lee, Kylie Minogue, Danica Patrick, and Fergie. For many years Jarman was the key stylist and official hairdresser for the world's most successful female pop group, The Pussycat Dolls. Jarman was the creator of their signature look, which led to work with celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Britney Spears, Lil' Kim, and Carmen Electra. Jarman has also been the principal hairstylist for television shows including ”Beauty and the Geek,” “The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for The Next Doll,” endless commercial spots, and live shows like the MTV Movie Awards. In 2010 she burst into the national spotlight as a finalist on the third season of Bravo's hit show “Shear Genius.” Jarman instantly became a favorite among the judges and was voted Fan Favorite of her season, standing out for her fearless hair creations, free spirit, and endless amounts of energy.Having naturally curly hair herself, she leaned into using perms to solve texture issues her clients were facing – but felt the need to reimagine the traditional perm process, odor and environmental impact. If you are one of our listeners who says “Pod Like a Hole, we appreciate the wide variety of artists you've discussed, but often I find it's either too much obscurity, too many riffs, or too much testosterone. Can you please give me a mainstream act that isn't a balding man?” Well, here you go. Steve pushed on the team a track-by-track discussion of Florence Welch and her Machine's album that can also be used as a audition tape for Barstool sports. We are reaching across the aisle here. Eric cries twice to one of these songs. Across five studio albums, Florence and the Machine has explored genres from pop to punk and soul; the band's most recent record, “Dance Fever,” just came out.
