The GRAMMY® Award-winning Americana quintet—Andy Falco [guitar], Chris Pandolfi [banjo], Andy Hall [dobro], Jeremy Garrett [fiddle], and Travis Book [double bass]—have musical influences that truly run the gamut, but their common denominator is certainly bluegrass -- the sound that has in essence defined the course of their career. The Infamous Stringdusters stand out as the rare group who can team up with contemporary artists on late night television one night and headline the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre or perform alongside The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh the next, and have recently emerged as proprietors behind their newly found independent record label, Americana Vibes. Manifesting an actual flock of impassioned fandom, much like those who paved the road before them, the band have attracted a faithful international audience that continues to grow. Moreover, their powerful music and performances paved the way for a GRAMMY® Award win in the category of “Best Bluegrass Album” for 2017's Laws of Gravity, and a number of International Bluegrass Music Awards in a variety of categories. The Infamous Stringdusters, have released Songs from the River, their first true compilation album featuring select catalog tracks that fit the theme of rivers. This 24-song compilation is available now via their label Americana Vibes in partnership with Regime Music Group. The release comes in tandem with the band's upcoming ‘Nights on the River' tour they will embark on throughout the summer into the fall occurring in primarily river towns across the country. What's that smell? Maybe nothing…Title: Courts have long seen K-9 dogs as impartial. Now police bodycams hold them accountableVideo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF52AnWEjAw&t=91sSource: NPRDate: 08 June 2023 Summary: Body camera footage is forcing people to reconsider whether drug-sniffing dogs are impartialSituation: For decades, American courts have presumed that drug-sniffing dogs were impartial as supported by training records and proper credentialing by local K-9 organizationHowever, body camera footage is now causing people to rethink the impartiality of these dogs, as evidenced by a newly filed federal lawsuit in TexasProblemIn the lawsuit, 37-year-old Houston resident Alek Schott accuses Bexar County Sheriff's deputy Joel Babb of pulling him over on Interstate 35 on false pretensesUpon refusing to give permission for law enforcement to search his pickup truck, Schott claims that K-9 unit deputy Martin A. Molina III prompted his dog to "alert" to the scent of drugs.ActionHistorically this would have been nearly impossible to prove, but with the advent of body cameras, things are changingSo Schott requested and received the body camera footage, which gave him almost the same view as that of K-9 deputy MolinaThe video shows the moment Molina gestured towards his attentive dog with his right hand, at which point the dog jumped up on the pickup's door, and Molina let him into the cab to search the truck."It's clear to me that he's telling the dog to alert," Schott says. "I thought, 'These guys are trying to destroy my life.' "ResultNo drugs were found in Schott's pickup, and the county later reimbursed him for damage done during the search — including dog scratches outside and inside the truck.Schott, who is suing the sheriff's office, is represented by Christine Herbert, an attorney with the Institute for Justice, a civil liberties organization focused on search and seizure.Herbert says they're pursuing the lawsuit because they believe the deputies violated Schott's rights — and did so in part by relying on the dog.The potential influence of a handler's agenda on their dog has long been a nagging doubt about drug-sniffing dogs - more specifically, handlers might influence them to alert to a scent that may not be there. Research has shown handlers may not even realize they're doing it. Some K-9 trainers have called for "double-blind" testing of the dogs to eliminate police biasIn double-blind testing, the location and existence of test drugs are randomized, unknown even to the dog's handler. Eliminating Police Bias When Handling Drug-Sniffing DogsBut that approach has been slow to catch on and is often met with hostility.Former K-9 officer and trainer Andy Falco hopes the spread of body cameras will change that hostility towards double-blind testingFalco, who works as an expert witness in cases involving sniffer dogs, says the number of legal challenges based on close-up video has exploded. Falco, who saw the video in question for Schott's case, says he understands why Schott is suing The sheriff's office would not comment to NPR on the case, citing "pending litigation."Closing Where you can find us at https://www.facebook.com/peopleswolfpodhttps://www.instagram.com/thepeopleswolfpodcast/peopleswolfpod@gmail.comMusic Produced by: WaresdannyIG: @waresdanny, Website: https://

Before his solo gig at Hardeman Orchards on July 16th, Andy Falco talked about his album "The Will of the Way."
If there is a silver lining to what has been a very difficult couple of years during the COVID-19 pandemic, it's likely all the great music that's been made by some of our favorite musicians and bands. In fact, some bands like the Infamous Stringdusters took that concept to the extreme, with each member contributing a solo project and album. With the release of band's last album Toward the Fray, out today, we've noticed a culmination of all of the work the guys have put in individually and collectively into their craft. Toward the Fray may be the band's strongest effort to date, with excellent playing, exceptional songwriting and a plethora of feels. I caught up with guitarist Andy Falco and banjo player Chris Pandolfi to talk about the band, the new album and future plans. First song: Means To An End Second song: I'm Not Alone See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 194: Formed in the mid 2000s in Nashville, the Infamous Stringdusters executed one of roots music's most successful pivots. Their foundation was and remains traditional bluegrass music, and they have the chops to execute the real deal at any moment. But when that audience and scene proved confining, they looked west to Colorado and the broader, wider values of the jamgrass world. After touring with the leaders in that arena, they became headliners themselves, while turning out Grammy winning recordings as well. I spoke with banjo player Chris Pandolfi, dobro player Andy Hall and guitarist Andy Falco about the odyssey of the Dusters on the eve of the band's tenth album Toward The Fray, due Feb. 18.

This episode focuses on The Infamous Stringdusters. Rob sat down with multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/vocalist Jeremy Garrett for an interview/performance session (he plays a bunch of songs!), and then shortly after the interview his band The Infamous Stringdusters announced the forthcoming release of “Toward The Fray.” Andy Falco kindly joined Seth and Rob for the intro, and talked about the record (set for early 2022 release) and offered some other current Stringdusters tidbits. Rob's chat with Jeremy begins with a discussion of “Wanderer's Compass,” Jeremy's solo record for which Rob has a particular fondness, and about working as a solo artist in general. We learn the intriguing story of Jeremy's fiddle and about how his father went from being a street musician to a touring professional. This interview was conducted on September 11, 2021, which leads to Jeremy remembering his September 11, 2001 experience when he was in the Grasshoppers with his father. He relates the time he felt the most pressure as a musician, speaks of the many great Nashville musicians with whom he has performed, talks of his “spiritual connection to Atlanta” and his approach to songwriting. The ever-effusive Garrett elaborates on plenty of other topics as well. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
It’s not terribly shocking that a band like the Infamous Stringdusters would go back to their roots, and put together a compilation of Bill Monroe tunes. I get it, he’s the founder of Bluegrass, and they are part of the group that is carrying the torch forward. What is confusing though, is that Monroe was a mandolin player, and the Dusters are without a mandolin player, opting for other cool instruments like the dobro and fiddle. I mean being a quintet is limiting. At any rate, a Tribute to Bill Monroe is filled with 7 great tunes, and I for one hardly miss the mandolin. I caught up with a busy Andy Falco, the Dusters guitar player and vocalist, to get a better understanding about this project. The conversation started when I discussed the idea that bluegrass has always been steeped in cover songs and the evolution of traditional songs along the way. Happy Valentine's Day! Here are 5 things you need to know, along with a few live tracks from New Orleans mus. #1—Early 90s Phish love on Osiris podcasts! Both Beyond the Pond and Helping Friendly Podcast had new episodes this week, both focusing on stuff from the early 90s. This is an era that gets a bit overlooked, but both of these episodes are worth going back to. #2—Neal Casal benefit album and documentary coming. JamBase told us about a new Neal Casal benefit album, Highway Butterfly: The Songs Of Neal Casal, which will support MusiCares, Backline, and the newly formed Neal Casal Music Foundation. A documentary film about Neal by Justin Kreutzmann was also confirmed. And here's the interview I did with Neal last Spring. #3—Inside the Musician's Brain featuring Bill Nershi and Andy Falco. In the latest episode, Chris Pandolfi goes deep with two bluegrass leaders. One is his bandmate and guitar master Andy Falco, and the other is Bill Nershi, founding member of the String Cheese Incident, one of the most influential rock/acoustic/jam bands in recent history. Really great double episode that goes deep into bluegrass in many ways. Here's a link to The Hitchhiker, featuring Andy's amazing guitar work. #4—We're getting new Grateful Dead releases! We heard via JamBase that The Dead will release the June 1976 box set via Rhino on March 20. The five-show, 15-CD collection features recordings made by engineer Betty Jackson-Cantor that recently were added to the band's archives. And here's the link to the latest 36 from the Vault, where Steven and Rob dive into Dick's Picks 3. #5—Festival Circuit season 1 is officially in production. This week I spent time in New Orleans talking to people like Anders Osborne, Papa Mali, Ben Jaffe of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jay Mazza, who wrote a book on the music of the city, and many more. The first season of this podcast, which launches in April, will be devoted to the jazz music and festival of New Orleans. The Infamous Stringdusters have been touring non-stop as most bands in this community do, and they haven't been resting on their laurels. The band received a grammy award for their 2017 release Laws of Gravity, and they continue to make great bluegrass music both live and in the studio. When we sat down with Andy Falco and Chris Pandolfi on the day of the release last week, we had lots to talk about. The conversation started though, when I asked about the two years since Laws of Gravity, and if that time away gave the band an even better opportunity to make a new record. The Dusters will continue to play tons of dates through the spring, and definitely through festival season this summer. For more visit thestringdusters.com. After a brief music chat, Seth and Rob sit down with Andy Falco and Chris Pandolfi of the Infamous Stringdusters before The Dusters’ Atlanta show this past fall and confer on this fantastic band. Since this interview, The Stringdusters band has been nominated for a Grammy for its Laws Of Gravity release - which is also the initial topic here. The band talks about this record represents a back-to-the-core coalescence of the its previous releases and approaches. They discuss their thoughts behind the choice to wait for new songs to be released before performing them. Other decision points are analyzed, like those behind sharing songwriting credits amongst each other and efforts to make sure each member’s musical voice is heard equally on each release and/or performance. The hosts and guests acknowledge the varying parameters of bluegrass, and the extent to which The Stringdusters feel compelled to adhere to them. We learn the importance of capturing the “expression factor” of each player, and how the lyrical and historical context of each song ultimately informs the performance. A discussion about the band’s Ladies and Gentlemen release leads to Nicki Bluhm. Nicki hooked the band up with Ryan Adams, and these two Dusters share some Ryan stories including how they prepared for the tour, their first performance with him, a spontaneous Black Sabbath cover, how Ryan “went to bat” for them on Colbert and some funny Ryan crowd interactions. Before Chris had to depart he discussed his thoughts behind his famous “Bluegrass Manifesto,” and how it attracted the ire of many bluegrass purists. Chris acknowledges that he was inspired by Bela Fleck to play bluegrass in the first place, and he denies that the “infamous” part of the band’s name was by design. When the focus shifts to Andy, we find out that he was in many New York bands including the Water Street Blues Band. He talks about how David Bromberg and Buddy Merriam stoked the fire of his interest in acoustic music, and how Merriam essentially taught him how to play bluegrass. We find out how Andy ended up meeting the Stringdusters’ guys and how he found his way in the band. Andy also shares some of his Stringdusters experiences, including the preparation for and execution of their Lockn set with Page McConnell and Phil Lesh. Then Seth and Rob take us home with a conversation of their own which starts with a discussion of the interview and then many music topics including the Dead and Company show the hosts had seen together just before completing this episode. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com Inside Out w/ Turner and Seth: insideoutwtns.com Twitter: @InsideoutWTNS Instagram: www.instagram.com/insideoutwtns Facebook: www.facebook.com/insideoutwTnS See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
There’s busy, and then there is the Infamous Stringdusters who have already played 110 shows this year and have at least twenty more to go as they run up to a New Years Eve gig in Aspen Colorado. Amidst this torrid pace, they are set to release a collection of songs, a follow up EP to their first Undercover EP. This one, is slightly more eclectic than the first, covering songs by Marvin Gaye, Daft Punk, The Allman Brothers Band, My Morning Jacket and… the Cure. While they are a band certainly rooted in Bluegrass music, as you’ll soon hear, that is just a starting point to the kind of music the “dusters” as they are affectionately called want to be. I recently sat down and chatted with Andy Falco to get his take on the journey, the music and much more. Our conversation started when I asked if he envisioned sold out crowds and massive popularity in and outside the bluegrass community…. More Links: Infamous Stringdusters on Youtube.
