Historia de The Cure. "The Head on the Door" (1985) y "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" (1987):La banda comenzó a explorar sonidos más accesibles y comerciales. Con temas como "Lovesong" y "Pictures of You", logró combinar profundidad emocional y éxito comercial. "Songs of a Lost World" (2024). Legado de The Cure. You Might Know Her From: The Joy Luck Club, Mulan, 3 Body Problem, Sweet Tooth, M*A*S*H, Star Trek: The Next Generation & Deep Space Nine, I Am Sam, Just Like Heaven, Freaky Friday, and The L Word: Generation Q. Sigh.) Plus, Rosalind teases Pei-Pei's return in Freaky Friday 2, explains why it was important to embrace the trans community with her role on Gen Q, and gets to the bottom of her tucking her hair behind her ear in Just Like Heaven where Reese Witherspoon f*cks a ghost. We had the pleasure of interviewing Gossip over Zoom video!Indie-pop rebels Gossip have made a triumphant return with their highly anticipated Album, Real Power, marking their first album in over a decade. Alongside the album comes focus track "Give It Up For Love," via Ultra Records/Sony Music Entertainment. The album marks a reunion with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin, who helmed the band's pivotal 2009 album Music For Men. At the coaxing of Rubin, the band started recording in 2019 after completing a tour for the ten-year anniversary of Music For Men. Recorded at Rubin's home studio in Kauai, the process was temporarily halted by the pandemic and resumed when restrictions lifted. The result is an 11-track testament to the galvanizing might of music, the liberating joy of creative expression, and the profound power of chosen family amidst collective and personal upheavals. "Real Power" not only marks a new chapter of maturity and purpose for the trio but also showcases Gossip's characteristic blend of sonic diversity, spanning from propulsive rock to jubilant disco, and delving into a rich tapestry of emotions that encompass the full spectrum of the human experience.Highlights on Real Power include the invigorating “Real Power,” lauded by Billboard for its “infectious melodies and stratospheric vocals,” along with the first single and blissful pop classic “Crazy Again,” praised by Consequence for its “dazzling production and radiant hooks.”A multi-platinum selling band, Gossip have sold over 10 million records worldwide a nd are one of Indie Rock's most exciting acts from the early 21st century. In this palette cleanser we are going to talk about the philosophy of romcoms for a change. I reckon this should remove any accusations of important work being done on The Living Philosophy. We'll be looking at two romcoms — the classic Norah Ephron When Harry Met Sally and the lesser known Just Like Heaven starring Reese Wetherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. One is reflective of a type of art that strives for psychological accuracy (Dostoevsky, When Harry Met Sally) category — while the second category (Just Like Heaven, Alexander Dumas's The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo) dispense with reality and works at the hyperreal level of the archetypal underworld. *** Damien's YouTube channel: "Science Fiction with Damien Walter": https://www.youtube.com/@DamienWalterPatreon interview with Damien Walter: ***
Happy Valentine's Day, lovebirds, and you're all in our hearts as we talk about Return to Me! Is this a crazier movie than Just Like Heaven? Plus, we try Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Hershey Kisses! Thank you to Julius H. from Pixabay for our theme song.
Love is in the air, even for ghosts! We watched Just Like Heaven for the first week of love month! Plus, we try raspberry cheesecake Lindor truffles! Thank you to Julius H. from Pixabay for our theme song.
Ah, the early 2000s! A special time in the history of cinema that spawned a plethora of high-concept romantic comedies. One need only look to Mark Water's 2005 effort Just Like Heaven, in which Mark Ruffalo must deal with that bane of all apartment subletters, being haunted by the ghost of Reese Witherspoon (except she's maybe not actually dead, it's a whole thing). Plop yourself down on a comfortable couch with Leigh, Brendan, and Chris as they discuss the perils of balancing the frivolous with the emotional, the vague rules of the afterlife (or the almost-afterlife), and the question of why Reese's character seems weirdly racist toward Asian people. All this mess and hot toddy cocktails aplenty, too! Continue reading →

We have an amazing pick for our next Paranormal & Supernatural Sweeties theme, we are recapping the movie Just Like Heaven. It stars Reese Witherspoon as Elizabeth, a physician working hard at her residency until one day her life is cut short (or is it?) and she must rely on a 'squatter' named David, played by Mark Ruffalo to bring her back to the land of the living. In this episode we discuss: streamlined sluts in many sex-tions, wonder if the K is silent in the name Klymaxxx and Tamara asks the burning question, 'Does Corinne's rug match her silver drapes?' This modern day Snow White story (minus the witch and dwarves) had us tickled and we hope you join us this week because it's Just Like Heaven.
Mean Girls is a 2004 Teen Romantic Comedy directed by Mark Waters, Mark Waters also directed Just Like Heaven, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Freaky Friday. This movie is also written by Tina Fey and produced by Lorne Michaels. Mean Girls is the story of Cady Heron played by Lindsay Lohan. Cady was homeschooled and lived in Africa for 12 years and she is finally going to highschool for the first time… she has no idea what she is in for. Cady quickly meets the school rejects Janis Ian played by Lizzy Caplan and Damian played by Daniel Franzese. She also meets the ‘plastics' or the MEAN GIRLS, Regina George, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners, played by Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert respectively. Really this movie is just the story of Cady navigating through having no experience with North American highschool and being THRUST into a friendship with Regina George… and all the comedy that comes with that. Also, Jonathan Bennett plays our love interest Aaron Samuels.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

But in 1987, the band's indie sound collided with a pop aesthetic that captured audiences and reminded the world that popular music could still be art. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (the band's seventh studio album) gave the band their first top 40 album on the Billboard 200. In Barry Walsh's review for Slant magazine, he compared the ambitious double-sided album to another eclectic and lengthy pop endeavor - the Beatles' “White Album” - and concluded. “Cure gives the listener the kind of roller-coaster rush that only great pop can provide—they take you all the way through the amusement park, plying you with the sweetest cotton candy, until you wind up giddy and disoriented in the hall of mirrors.” Within this thrilling journey, the third single to be released from the album, “Just Like Heaven” gave the band their first top 40 single and first real American hit. In this short, sweet, episode Dish goes over some deeper content in a birds eye view. Honestly, I had a lot on my mind and gave myself very little time to explore it. I imagine in the future these will come up again and I encourage anyone to bring any insight to the table as I explore these topics. Song of the day: Just Like Heaven by The Cure
The Cure is perhaps as influential as 80s bands get. The post-punk groups's emotive love songs famously evolve from despair to euphoria and back again with a casual elegance achieved by very few. So who - or what? - inspired enraptured heart-wrenchers like “Just Like Heaven” and “Pictures of You”? We'll give you one guess :) This week when we deep dive into the band that seamlessly bridged pop, new wave, punk, goth, grunge, and dirgey rock and left a mark on the hearts of so many. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lyricsforlunch/support
