Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark a sorti un nouveau single, "Kleptocracy".

Planet LP host Ted Asregadoo and Popdose writer Keith Creighton are inching closer to the end of the year with the November New Music Report. This episode is jam-packed with some stellar music recommendations just in time for the holidays. Segment One: The Big Album It's Prince! Known at various times as The Purple One, Christopher, His Royal Badness, The Artist, or Jamie Starr, Prince was at the top of his game between 1980 and 1987 with an impressive music output that few in the music world could match. Why? Because of The Vault. A prolific writer, Prince vaulted roughly 8,000 songs.  In 1991, after a series of lackluster albums, Prince released “Diamonds and Pearls” with his new backing band, the New Power Generation. The result was his fifth (and final) #1 hit in the US with “Cream,” a #3 hit with the title track, and two top 20 hits with “Gett Off” and Money Don't Matter 2 Night.” Overall, “Diamonds and Pearls” was an absolute commercial success for Prince.   On October 27, 2023, Sony released a super deluxe version with three CDs of vaulted tracks, a double live album, a remaster of the original record, and a disc with singles and different mixes. That's a lot of music, and Ted and Keith break it all down into digestible bits to highlight what's brilliant about the super deluxe edition, what's good, and what misses the mark.   Segment Two: New Music Releases The Transcanada Highwaymen's “Explosive Hits Vol #1 is mostly a carefully curated album of cover songs popular in the 1970s. These are Mellow and Radio Gold songs sung by a supergroup consisting of Moe Berry from The Pursuit of Happiness, Chris Murphy from Sloan, Craig Morthey from Odds, and Steven Page formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, but has gone on to a fantastic solo career. Featured songs include their cover of Andy Kim's “Rock Me Gently, and “Which Way You Goin' Billy” by The Poppy Family. Samples of both songs are embedded in this episode.  Lol Tolhurst (former drummer from The Cure), Budgie (from Siouxsie & The Banshees), and producer Jackknife Lee have created a cinematic mindscrew of an album entitled “Los Angles.”  Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark are back with what will likely be the final album of their career, and boy what a way to go out! Nowhere on the record are songs that sound like their biggest US hit, “If You Leave.” Rather, as Keith says, this is a soundtrack for the end of the world. Ted compares “Bauhaus Staircase” to Tears for Fears' “The Tipping Point” for its strength, its familiarity at times, and the satisfying way it's all put together. Duran Duran is back with Dance Macabre, a Halloween-theme mashup of covers, updated obscure deep cuts, and some originals. Also, guitarist Andy Taylor returns to the group, and so does the drummer of 17 years with the band, Warren Cuccrullo.  If you want to go on a journey with a musician who is a bit of an acquired taste, give Christian Kjellvander a try. “Hold Your Love Still” may not be for everyone, but once you become familiar with Kjellvander's voice, you'll find this record mesmerizing — as you will hear. Nat Jay's latest EP, “Turns Out It's Not The End” is one of Keith's favorites this year. Comparing her to an outlier star to Taylor Swift's galaxy-consuming supernova, Jay's song “Something More” could have been included in the new Hunger Games soundtrack — and you'll be able to hear why. Shplang! has been on the music scene for almost three decades, and is part of the International Pop Overthrow scene. Their latest song, “Understood” is featured in this episode.  Segment Three: Stream It Before You Buy It Quick hit recommendations. "Pretty Vicious" by The Struts “Telephone Line” by Juliana Hatfield “New Blue Sun” by Andre 3000 “Revisions of Truth” by One Square Mile “Chronicles of a Diamond” by Black Pumas “Can't Find The Brakes” by Dirty Honey “Purple Rain” by Dolly Parton “Harridan” (Live) by Porcupine Tree

Andy McCluskey is a founding member and lead vocalist of OMD (aka Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark). His band has sold over 40 million records worldwide. They are electronic synth pioneers and one of Britains' best-loved pop groups. OMD conquered the United States with their 1986 hit, "If You Leave" from the Pretty In Pink soundtrack. They have also achieved 12 top 20 hits on the UK Singles Chart and three top 20 hits on the US Billboard Hot 100.   Following the celebration of their 40th anniversary last year, OMD have released their first new studio album since the 2017 release of The Punishment Of Luxury, a record entitled Bauhaus Staircase. The new album dropped on October 27th, 2023. The press release says Bauhaus Staircase is OMD's most explicitly political record; however Andy tells me that art and politics have always been at the forefront of their songwriting themes.   Like many artists, Andy rediscovered his creativity, thanks to the boredom of lockdown. We talk about this, plus their new album, the band's stunning new music videos, memories of the first OMD gig, art, politics, OMD's participation in the forthcoming Dark Waves Festival, Liverpool F.C., and the longevity of his voice.   It was a great pleasure speaking with Andy. Our time went too fast, but what can we do. He's very busy with interviews, concerts and various media projects.    Find the new album and all things OMD at omd.uk.com. It's another great twofer for you this week! First is Glen Mercer of the Feelies. If there's an American version of post-punk, the Feelies are the best example. They released one of the greatest debuts ever, 1980's Crazy Rhythms, but have only recorded sporadically as a unit over 45 years. The band's been quiet since 2017, and original member Anton Fier died in 2022, but they have a new live album of Velvet Underground songs called Some Kinda Love out now. Then we hear from the ever-charming Andy McCluskey of OMD. Since kicking off the band's second chapter in 2010 OMD have been consistently excellent. They too have a brand new album called Bauhaus Staircase that keeps the streak alive. Andy's just the best. Enjoy!  www.thefeeliesweb.com www.omd.uk.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

FaceCulture: Giving You The People Behind The Music

Andy McCluskey is a vocalist, bassist, songwriter, and one half of English electronic duo Orchestal Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). The band rose to fame with the single 'Enola Gay' (1980) and took another step with their third album Architecture & Morality (1981). After a few commercially less successful albums (ones that are appreciated much more these days), other half of the duo Paul Humphreys left in 1989, leaving McCluskey as the sole remaining member of OMD, before disbanding in 1996. OMD got back together in 2006 and have since released four new albums to a resurging fanbase. The latest is 'Bauhaus Staircase' (2023), and we spoke with McCluskey about the album, the two stints of the band, writing hits like 'Enola Gay', political songs, doing everything with energy, the value of art, and a lot more! Interview by: Robin HignellSupport the showThank you for listening! In this episode, I speak with Andy McCluskey, lead vocalist of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, or OMD, as they are more commonly known. Andy formed OMD with co-writer and occasional co-vocalist, Paul Humphreys, at the tail-end of the 1970s. Their self-titled debut album (and its follow-up) was released in 1980 at the dawn of electronic pop, just as synthesised sounds were easing their way into the mainstream - and this is where our story begins. We begin by looking back at Andy's interests in art and design that saw him creating the first posters for OMD (see below), his ongoing creative relationship with legendary sleeve designer, Peter Saville, and follow the story right up to today with the brand new album, Bauhaus Staircase, released the same day as this podcast - Friday 27 October 2023. The new album references the Bauhaus art movement in its title, and its sleeve design is naturally complementary, but it is not the first OMD album with connections to art and design. So, join Andy and myself as we connect the dots, and along the way reveal that during this journey of more than four decades, OMD may actually have sailed those seven seas and finally come full circle... If you liked this episode, you may also enjoy the conversation I had with John Petch about his design work for OMD's 13th album 'The Punishment of Luxury'. Check out episode 6 of Art on your sleeve. Over the past four decades — give or take a decade break — the illustrious and critically acclaimed Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) have sold over 40 million records worldwide, establishing them as electronic synthesiser pioneers and one of Britain's best-loved pop groups. Their 13 long players include benchmark-raising classics Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (1980), Organisation (1980), Architecture & Morality (1981), and Dazzle Ships (1983). OMD conquered the United States, and yielded the 1986 hit, "If You Leave" from the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack. They have also achieved 12 top 20 hits on the UK Singles Chart, as well as three top 20 hits on the US Billboard Hot 100. Following the celebration of their 40th anniversary last year, now, OMD will return with their first new studio album since 2017's highly praised The Punishment Of Luxury, a record entitled Bauhaus Staircase, due October 27, 2023 via White Noise (through The Orchard). The forthcoming Bauhaus Staircase is regarded as OMD's most explicitly political record and the crowning achievement of their desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba - born from the impetus to kickstart new explorations during lockdown when, as Andy McCluskey admits: "I rediscovered the creative power of total boredom."https://omd.uk.comhttps://www.facebook.com/omdofficial

We all know Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark, or OMD for the brevity, as one of those New Wave Synth bands that has been around for ever, and indeed they have. Topping 40 plus years of making deeply powerful synth pop, they have been at it again with this work that began during covid, and culminated in the masterpiece "Bauhaus Staircase". This is a great piece, that is full of all the philosophy and discussion about the human race, that only one could achieve through a concept of the practicality of the architecture of "Bauhaus" and it's art, and how the human race might just function around said artistic philosophy. I spoke to Andy McCluskey the singer for OMD about this album, how it came to be, what the inspiration was for it and how they see the concepts helping mankind. In short, it was a seriously geeky conversation, but not just for art and philosophy fans, it was also great for music fans in general. The album comes out on October 27th 2023, and it is worth the wait, I play a track from it on this episode. website youtube spotify#omd #bauhausstairase #joydivision #orchestralmaneuversinthedark #newwave #80ssynth #andymccluskey

Misadventures in Music with Ian Prowse & Mick Ord

There aren't too many bands from the 70's and 80''s who're still producing compelling new music and not just replaying their biggest hits, but then Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have always ignored the prevailing musical trends and ploughed their own furrow, which is why the Wirral band's blend of classic Synthpop and contemporary Electronic Dance Music is still wowing audiences. They're smack bang  in the middle of a European tour and their last album The Punishment of Luxury was greeted with widespread critical acclaim, but Andy McCluskey says OMD's next release, Bauhaus Staircase, will be their last.   No, really.  He's our special guest in this month's Misadventures in Music podcast, with Ian Prowse and Mick Ord.Andy talks candidly about OMD's history, their musical influences and looks to the future with optimism as fans await the release of Bauhaus Staircase, their 14th studio album. A big thanks to Roy and Clare from the Podcafe in Liverpool for use of their recording studios.
