What stands out to me in this conversation is the metaphor of creating a mosaic, all of the pieces of ones desires and taking action comes together into something recognizable. There is also the truth that creativity can be born from challenge, through this discomfort inspired action kicks into action. How do martial arts help to develop character and confidence? Find out in my interview with Sebastian Bates, the Founder of The Warrior Academy, where they use a combination of modern training and traditional values to help children overcome bullying and develop a moral compass that will lead them to success. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/topic/podcasts/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode. Topics Discussed in this Episode: What drew Sebastian into martial arts Martial arts as a vehicle to build character and confidence The Warrior Academy programme The 3 Cs of character development The physical adaptations involved in martial arts training The daily habit routine that students are taught in The Warrior Academy Key Takeaways: Having that understanding that you know how to defend yourself, even if you don't use it, changes the way you approach situations. It changes the way you react in an emotional way when someone is being aggressive towards you or bullying you. 85% of students who go through bullying become bullies themselves. When it comes to bullying, it's not just the child that goes through it, it's the whole family. There are so many lessons and values and an amazing moral compass that you can give a child through martial arts. The end goal, rather than being a black belt, is a black belt character. And that's a child with high levels of conduct, concentration, and confidence, someone with a really developed moral compass. Mindfulness meditation is the ultimate form of self-defence. Action Steps: Consider learning martial arts. Practice meditation. Sebastian said: "Writing the book, the reason for that is the reason for that is because I just couldn't stand the sort of hopelessness and helplessness that parents go through when they watch their child go through [bullying] time and time again, and they can't seem to find a way out of it." "We use martial arts as the vehicle to [build] a child's character, just because it's just such an empowering thing to teach a child." Thanks for listening! Selling in a Skirt with Judy Hoberman with her guest Kathleen Gage & Jim Bouchard Kathleen Gage deplores boring keynotes. Hates listening to them. Hates giving them. It's why when she spoke in front of the top brass at the United States Marine Corp, to showcase a program on spouse leadership she shined in a way they were willing to listen. Her attitude was then and is now, “I have something that's going to make a difference for you and your people and I'm willing to step into my power to deliver it in a very inspiring way.” It's this kind of “no nonsense common sense” talk that has led many people to consider her to be one of the most passionate speakers alive. Whether it's talking to executives for Fortune 500 companies, or a small group of emerging entrepreneurs and every type of group in between, Kathleen brings her passion and energy to all audiences. Through martial arts, Jim Bouchard transformed himself from dropout, drug abuser and failure to successful entrepreneur and Black Belt. As a speaker and author of Amazon bestseller THINK Like a BLACK BELT, Jim tours nationally presenting his philosophy of Black Belt Mindset for corporate and conference audiences. He's a regular guest on TV and radio programs including FOX News, BBC Worldview and FOX across America.
In this episode of Your Partner In Success Radio we will focus on MASTERY with Jim Bouchard. He will explain why that is exactly where the solution lies. Jim Bouchard Thinks Like a Black Belt; of course, he is one!…he’ll help you Think Like a Black Belt too! Martial arts transformed Jim’s self-perception from former drug abuser and failure to successful entrepreneur and Black Belt. As a speaker and author of Amazon bestseller Think Like a Black Belt, Jim tours nationally presenting his philosophy of Black Belt Mindset for corporate and conference audiences. He’s a regular guest on TV and radio programs including FOX News, BBC Worldview and FOX Across America. Jim’s resume is colorful. As a former television writer and producer, Jim has done everything from fitting pipes on submarines, mopping floors, pumping gas and selling hot dogs to producing television commercials, fighting fires, boxing, playing drums in major concerts, hosting radio shows and kicking for semi-pro football teams. You can find Jim at his website, on social media and on The Jim Bouchard Show.
