Despite increased availability of hearing devices, their adoption remains disappointingly low globally. This week, joined by Dr. Sophie Brice and Dr. Brent Edwards, Andrew Bellavia leads a discussion on global accessibility in hearing care, shedding light on the reasons behind the gap, focusing not only on those diagnosed with hearing loss but also individuals encountering situational struggles. Tailored approaches catering to diverse needs and perceptions are crucial for boosting adoption rates. The discussion emphasizes leveraging tele-audiology, AI-driven recommendations, and innovative support strategies to bridge this gap effectively. Dr. Edwards, Director of the National Acoustic Laboratories, sheds light on the complexities of user satisfaction, highlighting the substantial time audiologists invest in counseling. Professional shortages pose a barrier, prompting a reevaluation of access policies. Dr. Brice, digital health scientist and teleaudiologist, underscores the significance of offering supportive options instead of disregarding reports of hearing difficulties outright. Valuable insights emerge from understanding why some decline hearing devices. Their advocacy focuses on disseminating adaptable, high-quality care through varied channels. While the road to widespread accessibility might be long, the positive impact on millions with hearing needs justifies the efforts undertaken. Join us as we unravel the potential of accessible hearing care and its transformative impact on individuals worldwide. TVNZ's multi-party debate this week illustrated key features of this election campaign: the minor parties' rising popularity, and the complicated role of NZ First. With polls they would need Winston Peters, National and ACT have been continuing to talk down his appeal - but it remains preferable to defeat. In Focus on Politics this week, RNZ deputy political editor Craig McCulloch dissects the past week, speaking to Guyon Espiner alongside RNZ and NBR political editors Jane Patterson and Brent Edwards, and RNZ political reporter Anneke Smith.
The election is only eight days away. Labour leader Chris Hipkins has been struck down with Covid, ACT and NZ First seem no closer to being friends and there are increased concerns about a volatile and violent campaign. This week Guyon Espiner was joined by RNZ political editor Jane Patterson and deputy editor Craig McCulloch, NBR political editor Brent Edwards, and RNZ political reporter Anneke Smith

In this special presentation, Brent Edwards, Ph.D., explores innovations in treatment for so-called minimal hearing losses. He discusses whether hearing professionals should recommend hearing devices to people with minimal hearing loss, and what research actually tells us about how well people with minimal hearing losses can benefit from hearing devices. The presentation includes research findings from the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), where Dr. Edwards serves as Director, into these questions and into the potential use of emerging technology innovations. PARBAR IS BACK IN THE NEW YEAR!!! We know we took a random vacation and didn’t warn anyone…. But the holidays were just busy and crazy. None the less we have things moving again and we feel the rust and dust on the wheels. We ran into issues with our Facebook live feed, the lighting was down, and we started about an hour and a half late... Horrible…. Yet today at the ParBar we brought in a good friend of MOD4UP, Brent Edwards. Brent runs his own real estate business, is a family man, and a funny person to be around. Brent comes to the ParBar to and talks with us about a more serious issue and one that the ParBar was based on….Drinking…. Rich D has made a commitment to not drink for 60days minimum and Brent was one of the guys who assisted in that decision… This conversation for sure is one to listen in on.. It’s get deep….Shootz….
