80s/90s Comedy/Music/Satire Icon Julie Brown joins us and prepare to mop up some tea! Just exactly how did Julie Brown become an MTV trend setter? She made fun of the videos. Fans loved it and the frenzy gave rise to Julie's very own show, Just Say Julie. We head back to an innocent age when it was still ridiculously ludicrous for the homecoming queen to have a gun. Then we explore the inspiration for Julie's first film, Earth Girls Are Easy. Getting it made, however, was difficult. Julie starred with Gina Davis, Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carrey and the film launched the music videos, Cause I'm A Blonde and I Like ‘Em Big And Stupid. Next, inspired by the outrageous stories she'd hear from friends who had worked with Madonna, Julie parodied Madonna's self absorbed doc-noir, Truth Or Dare, with Medusa: Dare To Be Truthful. We talk about Attack Of The 5'2” Women, with a cameo by our own Lisa Arch, in which Julie roasts headline hogs Tanya Harding and Lorena Bobbitt and we compare notes on 100 Things To Do Before High School on which Julie wrote and Lisa played Principal Hader. And finally, we unleash a rousing round of IMDB Roulette where the wheel stops at Happy Days, The Jeffersons, Newhart, Laverne and Shirley, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, Shakes The Clown, The Middle and Camp Rock. Plus, Weezy and Lisa are recommending and discussing Trust Me: The False Prophet on Netflix. Path Points of Interest:Julie Brown Medusa: Dare to be TruthfulAttack Of The 5'2" WomenCause I'm a BlondeHomecoming Queen's Got a GunI like em big and StupidVagueJulie Brown on WikipediaJulie Brown on IMDBJulie Brown on InstagramJulie Brown on FacebookJulie Brown on YoutubeTrust Me: The False ProphetLisa Arch on InstagramLisa Arch Presents Mother's Day at FlappersHold You Foundation

Christian movies have a pretty negative reputation. They are criticized for being cheesy, preachy, poorly acted, poorly written, and generally prioritizing lesson-teaching over entertainment or artistic excellence. But, in recent years, their Rotten Tomatoes scores have been on a steady uptick. The critical reviews contain more of the nuance given to secular films, and, en masse, viewers seem to be more positive about their experiences. So, what's happening? The tide that has turned in the faith-based film industry is multifaceted. The studios have become willing to give Christian directors bigger budgets. Writers have started telling stories with more complicated heroes and honest portrayals of life. Skilled and well-established actors like Patricia Heaton, Zachary Levi, Kelsey Grammar, and Dennis Quade are being hiredOne of the innovators behind the industry's compounding improvement is Andy Erwin.Andy Erwin and his brother Jon helped found Kingdom Story Company in 2019. The studio has been responsible for some of the biggest and most positively reviewed Christian films to date—including Jesus Revolution, Sarah's Oil, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. But the Erwin brothers' breakout hit was 2018's “I Can Only Imagine.” The film follows MercyMe's vocalist Bart Millard from his childhood growing up with an abusive father to his creation of one of the most popular contemporary Christian songs of all time. Now, they're back with the sequel, “I Can Only Imagine 2” which came out in theaters last week.Religion Unplugged's Culture Critic, Joseph Holmes, sat down with Erwin to better understand where the Christian film industry is headed and why the story of “I Can Only Imagine” needed to be expanded on.

You're listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for January 15, 2025. 0:30 We kick off today's show with Democrat lawmakers, in multiple states, who are openly pushing bills to block, undermine, and hobble federal ICE agents—despite clear constitutional authority under the Supremacy Clause. This isn’t about legal ambiguity; it’s about defying laws they don’t like and protecting a political agenda. We're laying it out bluntly: these state efforts will fail in court, waste millions in taxpayer dollars, and further embolden lawlessness. Weakening ICE doesn’t help vulnerable communities—it hurts them the most by driving up crime, suppressing wages, and draining resources from American citizens. This is a line in the sand moment. You’re either for the rule of law and law enforcement, or you’re for chaos and ideological nullification of the Constitution. There is no middle ground. 9:30 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things you Need to Know. President Trump unveiled a new healthcare plan. Vice President JD Vance cast the deciding vote blocking a rebuke of President Trump's Venezuela policies. Another oil tanker leaving Venezuela has been seized by the United States. 12:30 Get Performlyte from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:00 We don’t hold back as we react to what’s going on in Minnesota — and it’s not just a “local issue,” it’s a crisis of law and order. Democrat politicians in the state are openly encouraging people to defy lawful orders from law enforcement and interfere with ICE operations, even as violent clashes escalate. In Minneapolis, federal immigration enforcement has drawn massive protests after the fatal shooting of a woman during an ICE operation and a separate incident where a Venezuelan man and others assaulted an ICE agent with a shovel and broomstick, forcing the agent to fire in self-defense. When local leaders stoke resistance to federal law enforcement, what do you think is going to happen? This isn’t peaceful protest — it’s chaos, violence against officers, and the kind of breakdown in public safety that puts everyone at risk. 16:00 We got a question in for our American Mamas — Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson. Are we seeing more celebrities and public figures openly embrace conservative values? The Mamas weigh in, reacting to some surprising “red-pill” moments—from Nicki Minaj speaking out about faith and global issues, to longtime quiet conservatives like Patricia Heaton finally opening up about what it was like to be a political “unicorn” in Hollywood. The conversation hits on why more famous voices are stepping out now: social media, the collapse of trust in legacy media, and people realizing they don’t have to think the way the culture tells them to. From Michael Rapaport’s political flip to growing shifts in the Black community, the Mamas argue this isn’t about following a trend—it’s about people thinking for themselves, finding community, and giving others the confidence to say, “I’m not alone, and I don’t have to stay quiet anymore.” If you'd like to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 With more than 500 million firearms now in civilian hands, America is still governed by consent—not force. The Second Amendment isn’t just about personal protection; it’s about sovereignty, self-defense, and making tyranny too costly to even attempt. Compare that to places like Britain New York, and California where strict gun control hasn’t produced safety—it’s produced more crime, more surveillance, and more government overreach, while criminals stay armed and law-abiding citizens get disarmed. The bottom line? When power shifts away from citizens, it doesn’t disappear—it lands in the hands of criminals or the state. Those 500 million firearms are a reminder that America still remembers who she is: a free, self-governing people. 25:30 We Dig Deep into a disturbing pattern of government fraud—this time in Washington State. After the daycare fraud scandal in Minnesota, reporters started digging and found dozens of so-called “home-based childcare centers” receiving tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars every month… despite the fact that no daycare was actually operating there. No kids. No business. Just checks rolling in. And when journalists did what journalists are supposed to do—knocked on doors, verified addresses, and reported the findings—the state’s response wasn’t outrage over fraud. It was outrage at the reporters. Instead of addressing where the money went, Washington officials scolded the press for exposing it, proving just how comfortable some politicians have become with unaccountable government and a compliant media. This isn’t just about daycare fraud—it’s about why a free press exists in the first place, and what happens when those in power would rather silence scrutiny than answer hard questions. 32:00 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 We talk about a major moment on the world stage as Donald Trump meets with Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado. This wasn’t just a photo op—it was a declaration of what America is supposed to stand for. After decades of socialist destruction and authoritarian rule in Venezuela, a pro-freedom leader who was hunted, persecuted, and forced into exile is now sitting down with a U.S. president to talk about her country’s future. 35:30 We take a look at just how unhinged the far-left media has become—and then point out the moment they accidentally tell the truth. Using The American Prospect as the example, we run through some of their over-the-top headlines comparing Donald Trump to genocidal dictators and accusing him of “ethnic cleansing.” Pure Trump Derangement Syndrome on full display. But here’s the twist: buried in all that hysteria, even this far-left outlet is forced to admit something they swore could never be true—Trump’s tariffs are actually working. They acknowledge the trade deficit is down, inflation hasn’t spiked, real wages are up, and foreign exporters are eating much of the cost. After years of screaming that tariffs would wreck the economy, the facts are winning. When even a publication that despises Trump has to concede his policies delivered results, that’s not just ironic—it’s a bright spot and a quiet admission that Trump may have been right all along. 39:30 We dive into the messy headlines and the real-world diplomacy behind them. While there’s been chatter—especially online—about divides and even anti-Semitism swirling through certain corners of the right (with bots amplifying the noise), the facts tell a very different story. According to the New York Times, Israel and the U.S. remain closely aligned. 41:30 And we finish off today's show with a teacher couple who will make you say, "Whoa!" DEFENDANT: Everybody Loves Raymond EVIDENCE: Raymond Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon  SCENE OF THE CRIME: Long Island -- Hey friend — grab a glass and get comfy. In this episode of True Crimes Against Wine we swap the usual table wine for a lush, decanted Raymond Sellers Cabernet Sauvignon (yes, the reserve — velvety label, 14.5% sass included) and spend the episode pairing big-flavor wine notes with bigger TV drama: the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. We talk vineyard history (Napa's underdog moment and the Bottle Shock story), decanting tips, and the gorgeous, peppery, black-cherry notes of this super-balanced Cab that the hosts absolutely adore. Then the banter turns to the Barone family: the show's charm, its most cringe-worthy tropes (the “incompetent husband” bit and how sitcom conventions can sneak into real life), and the cast's standout performances — from Marie's manipulative, loving energy to Frank's grumpy heart and Robert's deadpan magic. Expect hot takes on Patricia Heaton's real-life politics, behind-the-scenes casting quirks, and hilarious anecdotes about auditions, auditions-day moods, and even celebrity soap-opera moments (yes, there's an SVU crossover mention). We laugh, we judge, we get nostalgic about laugh tracks and sitcom dinners (IHOP, anyone?), and ultimately try to render a verdict: is Everybody Loves Raymond guilty of reinforcing tired gender tropes, or just a cozy, flawed classic? Pour yourself something good and listen in — we'll make you feel like you're on the couch with us, wine in hand, ready to gossip.

This episode mentions suicide and depression and may not be suitable for all listeners. This week, we’ll hear from actress and producer Patricia Heaton. Beloved for her roles in Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, Patricia has faced seasons of grief and depression while navigating the ups and downs of a demanding industry, and shares how she has used comedy as a way to connect on a deeper level, helping others find light and meaning even in life’s hardest moments. Later in the episode, we’ll hear from journalist Anita Vogel. With a career spanning more than three decades, Anita has reported from small-town newsrooms to national television screens. She’s covered some of the nation’s biggest stories, but behind the headlines, it’s her interviews with everyday heroes and her experiences on the frontlines of breaking news that have shaped her deep commitment to telling meaningful, lasting stories. You’re still dealing with grief and pain and there’s suffering, but because we knew she was with Jesus, there’s certain things you don’t have to wonder about.” - Patricia Heaton “There were times when I could feel depression coming on, as if someone was taking a shade and pulling it down. I could feel it coming on, and I remember I would just be saying prayers over and over. So, it definitely gives you a solid landing place while you’re struggling.” - Patricia Heaton “The entertainment industry is really a difficult industry—there are no guarantees and there is zero security. It’s actually a really good place to be, because in life, there’s zero security except our relationship with Jesus. That’s the only guarantee.” - Patricia Heaton “The balance to try and strike is to be in the moment as much as possible—present to what God wants you to do and present to the people that you’re in the room with so that no event is ever wasted.” - Patricia Heaton “You do commit, but you have to know that you’re not in charge of the result. So in that sense, I’ve always had to let God be God because things fall apart so easily. We just have to believe that He has a plan, and that He will open doors and shut doors, and that’s what’s best for us.” - Patricia Heaton “Your family and your relationships and each other are the most important things, and God has you in His hands through all of it.” - Patricia Heaton “God is much bigger than our problems. He’s much bigger than our sins. He’s bigger than our failings, so we just need to learn to rest and relax in Him and trust and have faith in His love for us.” - Patricia Heaton “God is in control, and as a human being, you can only do as much as you can to survive, to protect your loved ones, to protect others. At the end of the day, God is present and He is watching all of this, and we just have to have faith that things are unfolding according to His plan.” - Anita Vogel “I always say a prayer and I always ask God to help comfort these people to get them through this horrific time. I don’t know how God does it. He has His own special way. We just have to have faith that He does something special for these people, to bring some kind of peace and comfort back into their lives.” - Anita Vogel “That’s one of the highlights of my career—that I do get to meet people from all walks of life and people who helped shape my life.” - Anita Vogel _______________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration announced it would revoke authorization of 2 petroleum-based synthetic food dyes with plans to eliminate 6 other food dyes by the end of 2026. While this is not an outright ban, the Trump administration is continuing with its “Make America Healthy Again” mission by urging the food industry to make the switch. President of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, Dr. Peter Lurie, joins to discuss HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s decision to phase out synthetic dyes and how this will impact public health. April is National Infertility Awareness Month, spotlighting an issue that affects millions of men and women and that carries a significant impact for American families. Actress Patricia Heaton and her husband, David Hunt, are tackling this topic in their dramedy film, "Unexpected," which closely follows a couple's journey through infertility. "The Middle" & “Everyone Loves Raymond” star Patricia Heaton and director David Hunt join to discuss the joys and challenges of producing this film, making the topic of infertility less socially taboo, and embracing the messiness of life as a couple. "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Patricia Heaton reveals how she avoided becoming a Hollywood divorce statistic by listening to the wife of one of the Beatles. Joined by her husband, David Hunt, to share the inspiration behind their movie “Unexpected,” the couple discuss marriage, infertility, IVF, abortion, adoption, surrogacy, and even how marijuana affects sperm counts. Considering how environmental toxins may be a factor in declining birth rates, Patricia says that “the jury is still out on RFK [Jr.],” but he is going in the “right direction,” and she admits that some aspects of the feminist movement have been “tremendously damaging for women.” Patricia critiques the “huge problems” with socialism, and David says our education system is in need of “massive reform.” After joking that “Hollywood values” are “kind of an oxymoron” and teasing David's upcoming role on “The Chosen,” the conversation turns to Israel and the rise of anti-Semitism, as Patricia explains why she founded the October 7 Coalition after watching Hamas bodycam footage from the deadly attacks. She calls out the pastors who don't speak out because they are “afraid to offend Muslims,” and she says that if you want to know where the Jews' land is, just read the Bible.          GLENN'S SPONSORS    PreBorn     By introducing an expecting mother to her unborn baby through a free ultrasound, PreBorn doubles the chances that she will choose life.
