In this special bonus episode of The Skift Meetings Podcast, Skift CEO Rafat Ali is joined by Skift Meetings Executive Editor Andrea Doyle and Head of Events Programming Brian Quinn to discuss the current state of conferences. Prompted by Ali's LinkedIn post critiquing the lack of thoughtful programming, attendee experience, and speaker support at conferences, the panel explores the importance of content in driving successful events. They emphasize that while logistics and technology have improved, the core issue remains the quality of on-stage programming. Ali and the team highlight the need for event organizers to prioritize speaker experience and content curation, noting that effective conferences should focus on delivering valuable insights and fostering networking opportunities. They also discuss the role of experiential elements and the necessity of creating an engaging atmosphere to make conferences more appealing and beneficial for attendees. The trio wraps up the conversation with reflections on the evolving events landscape and the continuous need for innovation and thoughtful execution in conference planning.

Surprise, Second Act Stories fans! We have one more “Best of 2023” episode to share with you. It's the episode you picked as your favorite of the year: our interview with Brian “Q” Quinn, who's best known as one of the four stars of the smash hit TV show "Impractical Jokers." Currently in its 10th season on truTV, Q and lifelong friends Sal Vulcano and James “Murr” Murray (a fourth friend and member of the show, Joe Gatto, departed from the show last year) “compete to embarrass each other,” with hilarious results. It's wildly popular because it doesn't force you to think, and it's guaranteed to make you laugh. At the age of 36, Q was working as an FDNY fireman in Staten Island, New York, but then something incredible happened: Impractical Jokers was born and it took off like a rocket. It quickly became truTV's highest-rated show, and it's one of the most successful comedies on cable TV. After using all his available leave time from the fire department, Q was faced with a dilemma: stay with the FDNY, work his 20 years and retire with a pension, or leave his career behind to continue with the show? In this episode, Brian Quinn talks about his career as a fireman, the tough decisions he faced when Impractical Jokers became successful, and some of the hilarious experiences he's had as a star of the show. Jen Phanomrat and Katie Quinn talk about the happiest hour, aka aperitivo, apéritif, and fika. They also talk about airplane food, ice cubes in wine, and how Apéritif author Rebekah Peppler and Food Network TV personality Rachel Khoo craft Friday coziness affordably.Special thanks to our listeners for your questions and Brian Quinn (@bqfunk) for our theme music.Got a Q for us? New-Yorker-for-life Jen keeps her eggs in her fridge; Katie, who's now in Puglia, used to but now doesn't—as per her Egg Guy's (yup) recommendation. We look at which cultures chill vs. not, what makes an egg brown or white (and orange-yolked!), if a "proper" omelet even exists, and consult very special guest, Canadian actress and comedian Julie Nolke on her breakfast feelings.Check out Julie's vids on YouTube, or follow her @julienolke on Instagram and @juliemarienolke on Twitter.Special thanks to Michelle (@Michelle_MadisonTV) for your question and Brian Quinn (@bqfunk) for our theme music. Quick: are you a pancakes or eggs benny person? Congee or oats? Filipino-Thai New Yorker Jen Phanomrat grew up with silog for breakfast; Katie Quinn's Midwestern household usually had cereal. On this episode, they discuss breakfast traditions across the world, and discover many surprising universalities. They're joined by Chef and Founder of Little Chef & Me Zoe Kelly, who shares a dunktastic idea we'll be making our new morning tradition.Special thanks to our listeners Clifton and Janet (@JustJanet69) for your questions, and Brian Quinn (@bqfunk) for our theme music.Have a Q for us? Brian Quinn may or may not have been drunk when he agreed to guest-star on this episode, but luckily the “Impractical Jokers” star is a man of his slightly inebriated word. Also luckily, he's bringing the heat with side-splitting stories about his time on the TruTV hit, almost getting bitten by a shark, his experiences as New York firefighter and that one time he almost ruined a dramatic scene in the show “Picard.” Cheers, Sessionistas!
