Have you ever wondered how two yoga teachers with diverse backgrounds and experiences come together to create something magical? In this episode, I sit down with my friend and fellow yoga instructor, Tony Lupinacci, to explore our journeys in the yoga world and our upcoming retreat in Portugal. Tony and I dive deep into our personal stories, discussing how we found yoga and the transformative power it's had in our lives. We share vulnerable moments, from dealing with loss to overcoming self-doubt, and how these experiences have shaped our teaching styles.Tony has been practicing and teaching yoga for over a decade in an attempt to metabolize deep grief and to understand the human condition through his own. After countless hours of practice and self-study, he began to shed the protective layers of his personality. Eventually, he found himself thinking less and feeling more, coming to a simple yet profound truth: our true nature is to love and to move from a space of open-hearted compassion. Tony's classes weave Ashtanga, Kundalini, Gosh and Katonah Yoga together to create a rigorous inward exploration of the self. He also uses vedic meditation, mantra and kriya as tools to reach higher states of consciousness through the physical form. His goal is for practitioners to leave with a stronger connection to themselves and to all sentient beings. The Power of Community and RetreatsWe're both excited about our upcoming retreat at Cocoon in Portugal, a 250-acre forest farm that promises to be a magical experience. We talk about the special bond that forms during retreats and how they allow for deeper connections, personal growth and are also a fantastic way to make new friends! He then made the leap into filmmaking with a music video for his friend's band, Mogwai, which went viral on Nowness over a decade ago. Now he's come full circle with this film that reflects the personal relationships, integrity and creativity that went into the making of it, and it's been perfectly summarised by The Austin Chronicle as “A true underdog story and a breathtaking look at community-building”.From throwing out the rulebook to being given Mogwai's music stems, from sifting through days of GoPro footage to sourcing funding to inviting fans to be part of the journey…Antony reveals the depth, detail and devotion it takes to get a project of this scale off the ground and into the world.“I didn't want the film to be like anything else out there. Mogwai have always done their own thing, their way, and this film had to be consistent with that”If the Stars had a Sound is a must-watch and screens later this month at various festivals, including Sheffield DocFest and Raindance Film Festival. Today's guest is the ever so talented professional dancer @RileyGroot. You may have just seen her dancing next to Katy Perry in her Las Vegas residency, but I know Riley from her time as a student at AMDA college here in LA and have had the pleasure of witnessing her career unfold over the years. She's been on “American Horror Story”, the MTV Video Music Awards with BLACKPINK, Disney's Christmas Spectacular, the Grammys, Billboard music awards, to name a few. We chat about:How being a reliable dancer can provide more opportunitiesWhy connections are the most important aspect of your careerThe challenges and mindset shifts to withstand the breaks between gigsHow dancers can self-advocate to make the changes we need in the industryBorn and raised in San Diego, Riley Groot's love for dance sparked at age 13 when she began training with the non-profit company, Unity Dance Ensemble. After winning numerous competitive titles, all while touring nationally as an assistant for established dance conventions, Riley moved to Los Angeles, where she continued her study of dance and the performing arts at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Since her graduation she has grown her resume and reputation through the commercial industry as a hard-working and reliable talent. Her credits include “American Horror Story”, the MTV Video Music Awards with BLACKPINK, Disney's Christmas Spectacular, and The Annual Grammy Awards with J Balvin, to name a few. Currently, she is traveling Asia on Jolin Tsai's Ugly Beauty World Tour, and when she is not on the road or working in LA, you can find her dancing in her fourth Las Vegas Residency: Katy Perry's ‘PLAY', where she leads as dance captain. Riley believes that with every job and opportunity, a new lesson is to be learned. She vows to pass along the powerful insights she has acquired throughout her growing career and hopes to inspire the next generation of dancers, just as her mentors have inspired her.Hey y'all! Have you ever heard a sentence come out of your mouth and thought, “I sound exactly like my mother”? It happens to all of us eventually - and is it any wonder, given all of the research behind the Social Proximity Effect? You can't underestimate the impact that your top five - the five people you spend the most time with - have on your life and the person you become. For Linda Weston, founder of consulting practice Rapporto, those five people include her parents, her daughter, and her closest friends, and she credits those relationships with creating the person she is. After more than 30 years of experience across senior leadership, tourism, professional sports, and entrepreneurship, Linda has learned a few valuable lessons about two interrelated things: The importance of finding your people, and… How those people can help you navigate the challenges of burnout. These days, Linda credits her parents, daughter, and friends with giving her the traits that have carried her through each time she got a little too close to burnout. That, and short walks. Seriously - that's where the mental health magic is. She and the team at Rapporto help organizations to improve their governance, strategy, and fundraising, paving a future-proof path into the future. In this episode of the She Burns podcast, Linda talks all about the life lessons and role models that shaped her and how she balances a fierce work ethic with her most important relationships. So what's this episode really about? How to create others' expectations and set boundaries through your actions The one thing that sets good networkers and communicators apart The value of small rituals in relationshipsHow giving back can become fuel in the form of volunteer work Pushing through the boundaries of fear that restrict our opportunitiesWhy you should listenWhether you're a parent, a workaholic, a passionate volunteer, or a combination of all three, you'll relate to Linda Weston. Linda has taken on all of these roles and found a way to “do it all” - a way to pursue the things that ignite her passion without pushing herself over the edge. Links Rapporto She ShattersYou can quote me on that… “A lot of people aren't raised [to understand] what a boundary is [and] how to set them, versus actually having the tools in your tool belt.” - Hannah Austin“I took time off work, but I would just stay at home and do a staycation. People were calling me at home, they were still wanting me to do stuff - so it dawned on me that what I really needed to do was to be totally gone.” - Linda Weston “I created that set of expectations by my own behaviour, so I was the one who had to change.” - Linda WestonLike what you hear? This podcast interview focuses on the story behind Pollfish – and their approach to reinvent market research for a new era by shortening cycle times to get faster, high-quality feedback from customers. My guest is John Papadakis, Founder and CEO at PollfishJohn started his career as an Android developer. He’s passionate about platforms and businesses that scale and has always had a particular focus on the mobile domain. In 2011 he co-founded Pajap, a service which allowed to create native Android applications, that didn’t need update or installation thereby combining the best of native app world and web app world In 2013 he founded Pollfish, a platform that provides brands a revolutionary way to learn, communicate and interact with existing and prospective customers. That inspired me, and hence I invited John to my podcast. We explore their journey to create a new category and the challenges to grow customer trust by establishing a large enough audience of close to a billion consumers . We also discuss his secrets of growing the Pollfish business – and how simplification and trust in people have been a great asset in that. Here are some of his quotes:Essentially Pollfish started because we had apps, and we want to monetize them. But advertising didn't work for our apps. And we were thinking: ‘There must be a better way to monetize those apps, and that way to be less intrusive since we don't want to spam our users.’So, we created the Pollfish library first, and we saw that people responded to surveys within the app. In a few days, we had hundreds of thousands of people. So, the company started from a need to monetize, and from the opportunity that the mobile app ecosystem (in 2013) was a new distribution channel for market research. It's a two-sided marketplace: you need supply and demand. And you've got to have both. So, we started with the supply, focus there for a couple of years, and then we launched Pollfish as it is today to solve the father decision making problem.During this interview, you will learn four things:Why – if you want to boost momentum - it’s key to focus your go-to-market on your core strengths and true values – and avoid anything that’s outside of that scope How smart packaging can enable you to change perception and with that open complete new market opportunitiesWhy your customers don't want to worry about ‘figuring your messaging out’. They want it simple – so simple they can share it with their boss. Why throwing way an impressive KPI sheet and focus on just 2 numbers gave focus and boosted creativity amongst all staffFor more information about the guest from this week:John PapadakisWebsite Pollfish See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Her original songs have been placed in TV shows including Cougar Town, The Real World, The Hills, and in movies including A Cowgirl's Story and Christmas in the Heartland. In November 2019, Maggie and her husband Shane found themselves with a rented sprinter van full of merchandise and gear, a tour manager, and nowhere to go. Their 25 show holiday tour with The Brian Setzer Orchestra was cancelled just a week before the first show due to Brian having tinnitus. The holiday tour was the result of months of Maggie's hard work cold calling, hustling, and creating her own luck. And with one phone call, it was all gone. But as I learned in our conversation, Maggie is no stranger to creating her own luck and this wasn't the first time she's created it.In this episode, we chat about:Why Maggie and her husband make themselves open to all possibilities in lifeWhy she moved to Los Angeles to create opportunities for her future instead of going the more traditional route to Nashville or New YorkHer mantra of going all in and going bigWhere she developed the mindset of creating her own luck and going after opportunitiesWhy she believes being an entrepreneur and being driven is just part of who you are at your coreHow she dealt with the disappointment of not going on tour with Brian Setzer OrchestraHow the Brian Setzer disappointment was a great reminder that wer’re not in control of so much in lifeHow Maggie creates opportunities out of thin airThe importance of trying something from a different angle and getting a fresh perspectiveWhat her endgame is and why it's not becoming a famous starHow she knows without a doubt what she’s meant to doWhat playing at Madison Square Garden meant to her

Work-life balance has been taking on additional meaning as technology is creating ways to stay connected to work wherever you may be. For real estate agents this brings two types of opportunities: Doing what you love to do and the ability to work on your own terms; employing flexible teams that choose to work on their own termsFinding suitable homes for people who choose to be more digitally nomadic, a trend that is expected to gather momentum in the future. On this episode of Elevate, we are super excited to welcome to Lisa Messenger to the show. Lisa is the CEO of The Messenger Group and the Collective Hub. She is a speaker, best-selling author, and a leading voice when it comes to the issues of innovation and disruption, in both the corporate sector and the start-up world. This conversation will talk through the some of the lessons from her own 'daring and disruptive' entrepreneurial journey as well as unpacking some of the big lessons in her books - including Risk and Resilience, and the newly released Work from Wherever. We talk through how she became resilient enough to weather the storm of making and breaking her own brand in the face of disruption. And we’re going to talk about building a brand while on the move. Outline of This Episode How Lisa's business, The Collective Hub, has changed over the last 12 monthsThe trends that inspired Work From WhereverWhy business needs to change to embrace servicing 'digital nomads' Lisa’s message to real estate business owners who don't like change muchHow to embrace a new way of thinking to take advantage of new trends and opportunitiesWhy hard sells are out and how to offer valueHow you can use freelancers to cut your wage billHow to hire your "weaknesses" What if Lisa were to start a real estate business herself There is more to business innovation than just “more sales” The real estate industry is one of the most exciting industries out there. So much opportunity exists. But as with many businesses, contact with clients and customers is becoming more relational and less transactional. The hard-sell no longer works. Customers are looking for companies they can trust and respect. That means real estate professionals need to learn to think differently. Find new ways to engage with clients that go beyond the actual transaction of moving homes. When you think differently, you can create ways to show that you care about people, which removes their fears about such a weighty transaction as selling or buying a home. If you stop the hard-sell and solve a problem, people will buy anything from you. Part of what it takes to innovate in real estate is learning to look through your customer’s eyes and providing exactly what they are looking for. When you’re able to do that, you’ll get really clear on what your place in the industry is - and can develop services around your mission. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Diversify, test thoroughly, and iterate. That is the true innovation in the modern world of real estate. Could you, as a real estate professional, embrace a digital nomad lifestyle? It’s not only possible, it’s happening all over the world. But many who try to be a digital nomad find it hard to stay on top of things. That’s because, when you embrace the digital nomad business model and are no longer tied to bricks and mortar, you must put specific systems in place to ensure accountability. Lisa explains how establishing specific KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) or deliverables to track contractors and other remote workers. Solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, and even corporations can take advantage of the opportunities offered through remote employees who travel and work from co-working spaces, on the road, and even from abroad. But it can also be disconcerting when you must adapt to the lack of regimentation. Efficiency and productivity improve with remote work arrangements

In this episode Jia Jiang shares his story of how he turned 100 days of rejection into a life changing experience and a full blown movement including a published book and the creation of something called the rejection gym. Why there's no such thing as a perfect timeLooking for rejection instead of running away from itHow our stories turn into noble excuses Learning to turn our obstacles into opportunitiesWhy many of our failures have a hidden purposeUncovering the bigger meaning and purpose in our livesHow to gradually increase your tolerance for risk Using rejection to expand the boundaries of your comfort zoneLearning not to take rejection personally How Jia ended up teaching a class at UT-AustinBecome action focused instead of results focusedResources Mindset by Carol DweckRejection Proof The Krispy Kreme Video Jia Jiang came to the United States with the dream of being the next Bill Gates. But despite early success in the corporate world, his first attempt to pursue his entrepreneurial dream ended in rejection. Jia was crushed, and spiraled into a period of deep self doubt. But he realized that his fear of rejection was a bigger obstacle than any single rejection would ever be, and he needed to find a way to cope with being told no without letting it destroy him. Thus was born his “100 days of rejection” experiment, during which he willfully sought rejection on a daily basis–from requesting a lesson in sales from a car salesman (no) to asking a flight attendant if he could make an announcement on the loud speaker (yes) to his famous request to get Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the shape of Olympic rings (yes, with a viral video to prove it).
