Maintained by a large cohort of volunteer editors, the free, online encyclopedia aims to make “the sum of all human knowledge” available to the world. The project of Wikipedia sparks a number of questions of interest to the modern educator, such as: What is expertise? What events, locations, objects, people, artworks, and inventions etc. are noteworthy? What exactly is a neutral point of view? How does living contemporaneously to events of historical significance impact our ability to evaluate them accurately? Is Wikipedia Trustworthy?Wikipedia is a living document, an undulating sea of interconnected articles, references, policies, and end users. Though neutrality is a guiding Wikipedian philosophy, vandalism does sometimes occur, and mistakes are sometimes made. (Studies have shown, however, that Wikipedia is nearly as accurate as traditional print reference resources, such as Encyclopedia Britannica.) We'll investigate the epistemological challenges inherent to a collaborative and ever-evolving repository of knowledge. We'll also uncover some startling demographic statistics about Wikipedia's editors, who aren't as representative of the average world citizen as you might think. The Impact of AI and Other Modern Internet Forces on WikipediaThe rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is having a major impact on Wikipedia. AI can be used to generate content, summarize articles, and identify vandalism. However, AI also poses a threat to the integrity of the content of Wikipedia, as it often introduces inaccuracies, fabrications, and “hallucinations,” some of which can be extremely difficult to detect. Lidia Rahal joined Tom on the Breakfast Show this morning to talk about the issue of bullying in schools in Luxembourg. She has created a petition calling for improved national frameworks for tackling the issue of bullying in Luxembourg's schools. After the experience of her daughter being targeted by bullies, Lidia realised that there wasn't an effective solution to dealing with bullying in schools in Luxembourg. Bullies may be temporarily expelled from schools or parents might be moved to take their child to a new school but the issue of bullying in schools remains. Bullying can take many forms including physical abuse, psychological harassment and social media bullying. Unfortunately children can be severely affected by bullying and in the worst cases can be driven to depression and even suicide. Lidia's petition calls for the government to tackle this issue with a national framework, she cites the example of Finland's national programme of bullying education as a good example of how to implement such a framework. Lidia's petition is number 2514 and can be signed here: https://www.petitiounen.lu/en/petition/2514

We got a question in for our American Mamas...Dear Mamas, is there anything that can be done to stop bullying in schools?
Today's episode of the 7 Figure Flipping Podcast has nothing to do with real estate. It's about life and family and the society we're raising our children in…And making those things better is why we do real estate in the first place.Something awful just happened to someone close to me… something that should NEVER happen to anyone. I couldn't believe it when I saw the post on Facebook… I literally read it with tears in my eyes.Folks, this episode might make some people uncomfortable. But we need to talk about this…Listen in now!A lot of people in the 7 Figure Flipping community know Heather Foster personally or remember her from the times she has spoken at Flip Hacking LIVE. She's a genius at seller marketing and runs two companies working with real estate investors. But today she's joining me on the podcast to talk about something different.Something we all have the power to change if we work together. My hope is that this episode gets heard and shared farther than any other we've recorded in the past. Thank you for listening!Links & ResourcesHeather recorded an absolutely heartbreaking (but also inspiring) video with her 11-year-old son Gabe after he was attacked by an older kid twice his size. Gabe's thoughts on what happened and how he is choosing to respond and live his life in spite of what he has had to endure for the past few years is so powerful that it's hard to put into words. Heather posted this as an unlisted video on YouTube but I asked her if we could share it and she said yes. October is National Bullying Prevention Month According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, bullying is a serious public health concern with potentially disastrous effects on children of all ages and walks of life. While bullying is not new to growing up, it is getting new attention. To combat its effect and empower kids in crisis, New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act or DASA requires all schools to implement anti-bullying policies. DASA also requires schools to have one or more staff members handle reports of bullying, so children know where to seek help. These local efforts and more about what we can do to stand up to bullying are what our expert guests will address with us on this episode. Joining us for this important discussion are: Mark Welles, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Zucker School of Medicine and co-chairman of the American Academy of Pediatric Bullying Prevention Committee. Bullied to Death? The Story of Bullying, Social Media, and the Suicide of Sherokee Harriman True crime author Judith A. Yates peels back the sensationalism and rumors, revealing the truth of what happened that day in Mankin Park, attempting to answer the question everyone was asking: did Sherokee Harriman kill herself because she was bullied? Exploring the truth about “bullicide” while telling Sherokee Harriman’s story, taking a look at the role of social media in our lives, and defining the myriad definitions of “bullying.” Revealing bullying does exists … it lives within the family dynamic, it exists in the mental health care system, walks the hallways of the educational system, and grows within all peer groups. This books looks at bullying in an entirely different light than we have previously studied. And it takes a hard look at the myth of “bullicide.” When I first read Sherokee Harriman’s story, I looked at her photograph and wondered, Why would this sweet, pretty, fourteen year old girl take her own life? And then I discovered kids taking their own lives at five, six years old. Right away bullying is being blamed. But is that fair? Today on The Expressive Mom Show, the focus will be on the seriousness of bullying. Miriam Slozberg is interviewing 17- year old Heather Johnson who just launched her first book, Hidden Voice- A story of discovering strengths, which targets pre-teen and teen readers.
